Sarkozy to Obama: Je t’aime
July 25, 2008 1:08 PM
PARIS -- They say that Paris is the city for lovers, and love was indeed on display Friday afternoon at a joint press availability at the Elysee Palace in Paris, where French President Nicolas Sarkozy all but endorsed Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, for president.
"Obviously one is interested in a candidate looking towards the future rather than the past," Sarkozy said, in French, which was translated by his office for reporters.. "We say good luck to Barack Obama. If he is chosen France will be delighted and if it’s someone else then France will be the friend of the United States of America."
Sarkozy said the "French have been following with passion the election campaign in the United States...Barack Obama’s America is an adventure rings true in the hearts" of French.
The diminutive French president said the French would "work with whoever wins, but I'm especially happy to be meeting with the senator…There's a tremendous sense of impatience or looking forward to the great American nation choosing its next president so we can do things together."
When asked by a reporter if Sarkozy was endorsing Obama, the French president did not deny it. Sarkozy was quoted in Le Figaro this morning calling Obama his "pal." But this took it all much, much further.
Ooh la la!

So having good relations with other nations is tantamount to compromising your principles and abandoning your sovereignty.
This is funny. You should know that the world has moved forward.
No nation can afford to be seen as arrogant these days. If you are, the rest of the world will just stand aside and watch you drown in your problems.
Iraq and Afghanistan are vivid examples. You 've got commonsense. Haven't you?

Thanks for your observation.
No one is voting for Mccain because he hasn't got anything to offer.
People are simplying voting against Obama out of hate and Mccain happens to be benefitting from that.

You know, it's funny reading all these posts. It seems quite clear to me that people are either voting FOR Obama or AGAINST him. No one is voting FOR McCain. Why is that?

If they detest you, then the people won't vote for you.,, and (hopefully) you wouldn't/SHOULDN'T get to lead!
Sounds democratic to me... unless a broken-down misguided political party chooses to cram an unknown quantity of a candidate down our throats.....

Between the war hero, and the racist, I will pick the hero everytime.

The verb, aimer, can mean like or love, but the expression, je t'aime, unequivocally communicates "I love you," in French. You can hear je t'aime sung breathily in French techno pop and dramatically in the classic songs of Edith Piaf. Either Jake Tapper wasn't using French cautiously enough or he fully intended a headline of Sarkozy proclaiming his love of Obama. Go figure.

Obama to Sarkozy:
"I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

******************************since Hmmm, when did standing up to prevaricating politicians become a partisan issue? I would think that conservatives would be against lying to the American people as well.
******************************
What prevarication, all the lies about Saddam and WMD told by the Clintons, Gore, Kerry, etc during the 1990's? Bill Clinton established the policy of regime change in Iraq, but didn't have the b@lls to actually do it.

MPinFlorida:
The Pentagon told Sen. Obama that he and his senate staff were welcome to visit Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. But his campaign staff and the reporters were not allowed. It was Sen. Obama's decision--and his decision alone--to cancel the trip. That's because Sen. Obama was more interested in photo ops than cheering up a few wounded veterans. Ironically, even though Sen. Obama was prohibited from campaigning in the medical center, those veterans that he could have visited might have returned the favor by voting for him in November. But now this cancellation may be perceived as a snub of our wounded veterans; and may have an adverse effect by causing many veterans to snub Sen. Obama when it comes time to mark their ballot.

UK Resident, if it means that we must compromise our principles and abandon our sovereignty and independence in order to be liked by the rest of the world than THAT is a bad thing. We can certainly disagree on issues and still be allies.
Now as to your specific question, no the United States cannot solve every problem alone. In fact, the whole world united together cannot solve every problem.
But when it comes to the jihad that the Islamic extremists have declared against Western Civilization, many countries just do not appreciate the severity of the war on terror. Even here in the United States many of our own citizens do not accept that this war on terror is as serious a national security issue as the Bush Administration claims it is. Some honestly believe that if we only understood the root of the problem then we can appease the enemy and peace will magically occur. Other Americans believe the whole thing is just a trumped up conspiracy by the Bush Administration because it is HE who is the terrorist. The entire world needs to gets on board to defeat these Islamic extremists militarily, financially and psychologically before they get their hands on WMDs. Once that happens the "party" is over!

McCain couldn'y fly combat
aircraft with skill and lost
or crashed five of them.
His personal attacks campaign
with little else is headed for
the same fate.

Here's the facts for those of you who are confused:
1. Pentagon is reason Obama decided not to visit troops in Germany.
2. McCain is fake, blindly ambitious, out of touch with the majority.
3. Vision and communication skills are imperative in this planet/one world community where everyone can potentially have nuclear weapons, which will, if not checked, destroy the planet and everyone on it.
4. I'm voting for Obama. He's got the vision, the skills, and the moral compass necessary for the huge job that awaits the next President.

Reading all the blogs here, I have one question for some americans.
Do you think that you can solve every problem alone?
Why would Obama being liked by those you call allies and friends be a bad thing? Don't you need personal relationships and rapport with others in order to lead?
Can you lead people when they detest you? Isn't this insanity

Didn't John "Heinze" Kerry say that the Europeans preferred him over Bush too ?
Posted by: LADNARC | Jul 25, 2008 7:07:35 PM
If Obama's trip has been such a success then why are his poll numbers declining ? He can make the Europeans swoon all day with his empty sweet talk but the bottom line is....they won't be voting in November. Does he know that ? By the way, he should seriously consider firing his speech writer. He once again plagiarized when using the line "This is Our Moment. This is Our Time." Bono of U2 in 2005.

I have been a student of International politcs for decades and todays joint press conference was truley unprecedented. With exception of President Clinton ensdorsing Peres over Netanyahu folowing the assasination of Rabin, one can not recall such a obvious showing of affection to a candidate by a foreign leader.
Sarkozy could not contain himself. He even joked when recalling his meeting with Obama in 2006, that "one of us already became president, and the next one..." and started laughing. Pretty much saying that "I cant wait to host President Obama in a State dinner!"
And this coming from a conservative leader? Obama sure hit all the marks in this international trip!

McCain why?, the only fact that know FOR CERTAIN is that the 2001 & 2003 Bush tax cuts will be allowed to expire. Sen. Obama says he will raise the taxes on those making over $250,000. Since the Democrats in Congress love tax hikes and they hate the wealthy, we can be ALMOST CERTAIN that tax hike will happen.
HOWEVER, Sen. Obama also SAYS he will cut the taxes of those making less than $250,000...but will the Democratically controlled Congress actually submit tax those cuts??? AND if so, will the tax cuts for those making under $250,000--after allowing the 2001 & 2003 Bush tax cuts to expire--end up being a net tax cut or a net tax hike???

Lol......I love it. Its just great. I personally think that McCain and the RNC are hurt and licking their wounds...
