The Daily Show on the New Yorker Cover
July 16, 2008 10:55 AM
A funny -- and at times, devastating -- take on the controversy involving the New Yorker cover from Jon Stewart and the Daily Show.
Stewart suggests that the more appropriate response from Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois -- rather than being offended (or saying the cover "fueled some misconceptions about me," as he did on CNN last night) -- would be to have said "Barack Obama is in no way upset about the cartoon that depicts him as a Muslim extremist. Because you know who gets upset about cartoons? Muslim extremists! Of which Barack Obama is not. It's just a f---ing cartoon!"
Stewart may be even more effective when skewering the media, though. Watch HERE.

Yes, the Bush Administration has, for national security reasons, attempted to convince the press to not reveal classified information that they have obtained regarding our efforts in defeating the enemy at a time of war. There may be some of the mainstream media who have placed national security first and chose not to reveal the classified information. But there are others who have chosen to aid the enemy and make our efforts more difficult by publishing classified information. So unless there is evidence of extortion or threats against members of the media, this is not suppression of the press. This is just pleading the case of national security so that the enemy will not know what we are doing.

Everything you wanted to know about how the Bush administration intimidated the press is outlined in this book; "Bush's Law: The Remaking of American Justice"

rrow, Joe Wilson outed his own wife by naming her as the "former Valerie Plame" in his biography for Who's Who long before Robert Novak wrote his article.
Calling someone unpatriotic is suppression and manipulation of the press??? I don't see that correlation. Now then if the Bush administration HAD manipulated the press you wouldn't have heard about ANY of the deaths in Iraq. Instead the mainstream media has ONLY covered the negatives of the war. None of the successes are covered...and trust me there have been plenty of successes. So that is strong evidence of NO suppression and manipulation of the press.

James Danley you asked; I would certainly appreciate some examples of Bush's suppression and manipulation of the press.
Do the names Valerie Plame & Joe Wilson and the New york Times bring back any memories? How about anyone who spoke out against the Iraq war being called unpatriotic? The press went right along helping sell the Iraq war and now they are selling Obama and implying anyone who does not support him is racist. There is so much criticism over anyone who questions Obama it could have, and has had, the effect of making people afraid to speak up. Some of his supporters have made death threats to some of the Hillary supporters who are not behind Obama now.

Love you, Jon Stewart! Don't let them stifle your free-speech, satire and tell you what you should or should not say on your own Show!
Funny - both Jon and the NewYorker are Liberal mediums, and it is the Obama Liberal crew who are doing their best to stifle free speech and free expression! Proves my point - your guy is O'Bush! What will he do if, Heavens forbid, he gets the Presidency? Scary!

P.S. - Obama said he had a "scheduling conflict" in August when Texas was trying to get a town hall together with 6,000 vets/military families for a McCain/Obama "debate". He runs scared all the time....afraid of McCain the way he was afraid of Hillary....c'mon Obama "man up"!

rrow, you wrote: "All this outrage of this cartoon gave me flashbacks to the suppression and the manipulation of the press under Bush."
I would certainly appreciate some examples of Bush's suppression and manipulation of the press. Finally, flashbacks refer to "past" memories, so I guess by your statement Bush's alleged suppression and manipulation of the press is over.

dl, you wrote: "because his (Sen. Obama's) platform is the most modern and smart."
Stealing from the wealthy and giving to the middle class might be modern, but smart? The old entitlements, Medicare and Social Security, will become bankrupt in about 12 and 33 years, respectively, if they aren't reformed. Yet, Sen. Obama's "platform" calls for implementing several additional entitlements which combined are as, if not more, expensive than the old entitlements; and, as yet, does not include reforming the old entitlements (just more stealing from the wealthy). Is that smart?

All this outrage of this cartoon gave me flashbacks to the suppression and the manipulation of the press under Bush. Is this what we are in for if Obama gets elected? The fear of free speech because of retaliation by Obama and his supporters.
Hillary please come back!

It's so funny...
all the people against Obama on here...it's all spin...angry misled spin.
I feel sorry that your brains aren't firing on enough cylinders to grasp the facts.
Chances are overwhelming that Obama is goign to win...why?
because his platform is the most modern and smart.
Period.
You all seem to miss that...with all the Bush/Rove-like comments...you all are trying to repeat 2004.
Sorry but the numbers show...it won't work this time...too much at stake.

Mary -
It's His choice to be inspired by the hatemonger, GoddamningAmerica Rev. Wright for 20 years and wrote a book entitled by his sermons.
It is His choice to make housing deals with his 15 years friend Rezko to benefit himself while the Americans lose their mortgages to foreclosure.
It is His choice to take money from Ayers to send him to the state senate.
It is His choice to abandon - where did he learn that from - his stepping-stone, beloved, Christian Church, when winds tilted a bit to the right.
It is His choice to vote for a bill that spies on you and everyone else, abandoning his Promise to the American people, for his political pandering.

Barrack Obama, as a child was enrolled in the schools by his mother and grandparents and had little say about the actual school. I don't care if he went to a muslim school or studied the koran or not; I do care whether he is telling the truth now as an adult. I don't think he is.

Do liberals have no sense of humor at all? The Obama supporters in these comments sure seem to take tehmselves awfully seriously.

YEAH, WHO CARES WHAT OBAMA THINKS? HIS THOUGHTS ARE NOT EVEN HIS OWN.

Justin Watts,
Obama will be a mediocre president, God Forbid and might get re-elected if he can TRICK Americans into thinking he is doing a good job. After 4 years America will be so sick of him they will beg for a new president. And Hillary will be the only choice people will want to make.
Posted by: neil1785 | Jul 16, 2008 2:07:51 PM
squintz,
OBAMA IS NOT BEING TAKEN SERIOUSLY BECAUSE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE VIEW HIM AS NOT SERIOUSLY QUALIFIED AND FIT AS PRESIDENT... HE'S NOT EVENT FIT AS VP AND NONETHELESS, A CEO OF A LARGE OR MEDIUM COMPANY....

Aston - he makes fun of his ears all the time. For example, in February when asked who should play him in a movie, Obama said, "Will Smith and I have talked about this, because he has the ears. He's better looking than me, but we both have those (ears)." Gosh, what an uptight priss, right? You people are delusional. (Preparing for the "ooo, Hollywood liberal elitist" smears in 3, 2, 1...)
Neil1785 - are you blogging from the year 1785 or what? I live in PA, friend, and know many people in the "tri-state" area and Washington, DC, and I'm pretty sure Obama's being taken seriously. So seriously, in fact, that I'd bet everything I have that he beats McCain by extremely wide margins in each of those states come November...try to pay attention. Or, you know, keep your head buried in this blog along with all your delusional cronies.

When you have no substance, you simply criticize your opponents, accusing her or him things they never said or did. They have to defend themselves, and by the media cycle finished that round, they forgot what the original question was and a new subject will come along.
NewYorker fuels misconception - so said 0bama. Now you know, NewYorker was probably correct since 0bama is shifting blames.
That's how a phony does his business to deceive you.

disambiguates -
Yes, only that we will make sure 0-bama lose in November, for his deceptions and stealing the nomination through affirmative action.
