At VFW Convention Speech, Obama Mentions Biden
August 19, 2008 9:30 AM
Tea leaves in Orlando?
Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, is speaking to the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention here in Orlando, Florida, though the politico-media-industrial complex is more focused on whom he will select as his running mate.
And lo and behold, he mentioned one of the presumed finalists -- Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del. -- in his remarks, when discussing the conflict in Georgia.
"For months, I have called for active international engagement to resolve the disputes over South Ossetia and Abkhazia," Obama said. "I made it crystal clear before, at the beginning of, and during this conflict that Georgia’s territorial integrity must be respected, and that Georgia should be integrated into transatlantic institutions."
Obama continued, "I have condemned Russian aggression, and today I reiterate my demand that Russia abide by the cease-fire. Russia must know that its actions will have consequences. They will imperil the Civil Nuclear Agreement, and Russia’s standing in the international community – including the NATO-Russia Council, and Russia’s desire to participate in organizations like the WTO and the OECD.
"Finally, we must help Georgia rebuild that which has been destroyed," Obama said. "That is why I’m proud to join my friend, Senator Joe Biden, in calling for an additional $1 billion in reconstruction assistance for the people of Georgia."

Obama stated at the VFW townhall meeting that "We have lost over a thousand American lives and spent hundreds of billions of dollars since the surge began".
Who gives a crap how much this war is costing us. Then in the same speech he wants to give Aid to Georgia. He's a socialist and a politician, nothing more, nothing less.
No disrespect intended, Obama has three (3) years as a US Senator. That's sure to qualify him for running the greatest country on earth... (NOT).

More money for Georgia? Didn't they shoot first?

Finally Obama has a screwed up policy. Russian citizens were shot at by the Georgians and Russia responded very heavy handed but rightfully so. There are two sides to every story.

Russia has its interests in there, but the present situation is Georgia's fault. Saakashvili attacked Soth Ossetia first, and attacked russian piece keapers. South Ossetia and Abkhazia are de facto independent for many years, and their status is no different from Kosovo. It is not McBush who may say something, after destroying world order by invading Iraq.

I think it will be Biden. If it is Biden it's a smart move. There are Obama leaners out there and a Biden pick would reassure them it's okay to vote for change.
Also,
Biden could beat any Republican VP pick in a debate.

I'm from IN and I don't think it should be Evan. He's a bit antiseptic, may get labeled as in a political dynasty, and IN may lose a safe Senate seat. Joe Biden couldn't possibly shoot off his mouth any more or worse than McCain has. At least Biden is not dazed and confused most of the time and he IS NOT a warmonger!!!

Perhaps Obama and Biden can plagarize from each other. Refresh my memory -how many votes did Biden get? in both his presidential runs?

If you thinking McCain is cranky wait till Biden starts speaking!

All the signs seem to be pointing to Biden. There's a report about Bayh's wife making 837,000 bucks on 7 corporate boards. Obama probably doesn't want to have to deal with that potential problem. Kaine was floated as a trial balloon two weeks ago and didn't get as warm a reception as expected. With Georgia's tensions rising, Obama doesn't want the "inexperience" tag to stick till the end of the campaign. Biden is an intelligent man, a good debater, and an excellent attack dog on McCain.

Marylou is right. McCain is a leader. He leads exactly where his handlers tell him to go.

The SMARTEST thing that Obama could do is choose Biden as his running-mate.
Biden will fight back and will kick McCain's arse!

I've never heard Obama speak on this region in months past. And his initial reaction was to scold both Russia and Georgia as aggressors. Eventually he came around to the right point of view, but he had to be lead by the hand and shown the way.
Obama is a Follower; McCain is a Leader.

Well, after all, we are Still spending $10Billion a month in Iraq - what's another $1Billion for Georgia??

Good take on the Georgia conflict from Obama. And it won't be Biden. He's giving Biden a doff of his cap most likely because he hasn't been chosen.

How much more do you think the candidate with the lobbyist for Georgia as his lead foreign policy adviser would spend Geevil?
You know the candidate that has never called Georgia to stop the crap going on that gave Russia the excuse to invade. The candidate who has made the situation worse with his hawkish foreign policy in every direction rather than better.
Do you realize they just did several polls of the actual Georgians...and half blame their own country as much as they do Russia.
Yet John Mccain has never called out Georgia...hmmm could it be because he is a cold war hawk that has a lobbyist for that country as his senior foreign policy adviser...straight talk my a$$.
