Bayh By a Hair?

August 20, 2008 8:24 AM

It has indeed descended into silliness, this speculation.

Does it mean anything that the wife of one of Sen. Barack Obama's veep finalists, Susan Bayh, just got her hair and nails done?

Or that she has also told neighbors that she's sorry about the media pack about to descend upon her Washington, DC, neighborhood?

Does that mean anything at all?

How about the news that Gov. Tim Kaine will campaign with Obama on Thursday as Obama hits the commonwealth of Virginia on his bus tour?

And while we're all reading the tea leaves, others are looking at the tee-shirts.

ABC News' Susan Rucci points out that at this on-line tee-shirt vendor the big seller is Obama-Clinton, followed by Obama-Biden, and then Obama-Richardson.

Cotton and fury, signifying nothing.

If you own a single share of stock or hold even reasonably high ethical standards, you
d have to outraged at SUSAN BAYH gaining any influence. As a member of 7--yes, 7--boards it is not conceivable to accept that she is paying adequate attention to corporate affairs--if she even has the acumen to understand the business world. In fact, several of the firms where she is a board member have seen their stocks tumble by more than half. She looks like a greedy charlatan--the media needs to fully explore her corporate board activities.

It HAS to be Joe Biden. I loved it
when he said that we must send
$1,000,000,000 to Georgia in their
hour of need.
Hillary's thinking that that wad
would go a looooong way toward helping
her retire her debt.
It's all a matter of PRIORITIES.

It's the votes, silly. VA has 13 electoral votes, IN has 11. Whichever "favorite son" gets the nod will make it a lot easier for O to woo these states, now that they are (supposedly) "in play".

Besides, if he has to spend $$ from his considerable war chest, better off cinching the VA votes and paying for the Hoosiers: his dollar will go a lot farther in Indiana.

I discount Biden: his runs for the big chair have left him with too much (political) debt.

Bayh is a really interesting pick. Should he be Obama's VP choice, he brings a pro-Iraq view along with outspoken maturity supporting the Patriot Act. While he's pro-Abortion and won't win any friends on the right there, his neoconservative approach to foreign affairs would definitely earn the respect of the Weekly Standard crew.

Contrasted that with some of the "safe" McCain choices - Lieberman, Rudy, etc. - and Obama's campaign looks more balanced.

Posted by: redherkey | Aug 20, 2008 6:14:44 PM

I think he is going to pick a dark horse for VP. Someone like Gov. William J. LePetomaine.

Posted by: EdDoc | Aug 20, 2008 4:17:25 PM

(Obama is) "More like Bush than any of the other candidates." Wow! If you believe that June, I have to ask you: What planet are you from? Talk about being totally out of touch with reality!

Posted by: EdDoc | Aug 20, 2008 2:26:10 PM

June: Historically the VP is not named until just before the Convention. Nothing silly about it. McBush plans to name his just before the GOP convention.

Posted by: EdDoc | Aug 20, 2008 2:23:25 PM

Cindyct, this older generation voter, has donated time and money to every Democratic Presidential candidate since the age of 18. This will be the first time I have voted for someone else! Used to live in Indiana and know what kind of politics your Mr. Obama is tied to. Experienced it first hand. Your great one is anything but great and is just another dyed in the wool politician. Change by this man is the biggest lie he has stated!

Posted by: June | Aug 20, 2008 1:40:23 PM

Has everyone forgot that John has neglected to pick a VP? He has been the presumptive nominee for quite sometime now. Unfortunately, he is not as interesting to follow, so we really don't care about what happens in his little world. What Obama is doing makes sense. There are not any voters that are going to vote for McCain because Obama has not picked a VP yet. If you are a Dem, you are not going to vote for McCain. If you do, I am sure that there are "other" reasons as to why. A Dem voting for McCain because Hillary did not win is the same as this scenario...."A man is interested in one of two women (equally attractive) that shares the same values and beliefs as he does, but she is not interested in him. Because she is not interested in him, he decides to not date other women, but be gay, which is totally different than everything he stands for and agreed with previously. But since he cant have the one he wanted originally he will break all of his rules and betray his beliefs for someone else.

"If Michelle is that strong a woman to help Obama chose a VP then I definately want them in the white house. Behind every good man is a strong woman."

Some women, notably Clinton and Palmer were out front when a bad man shot them down with the help of a nefarious woman. Maybe women should put their strength up front. Women like Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman refused to take the hindmost and became very successful.

Spin is such fun.

Posted by: len | Aug 20, 2008 11:57:18 AM

The ListMod snipped the original for the usual nobodyKnowsTheRules rules.

"Len...I think the Clintons sealed their fate with the negative campaign they ran that backfired on them!!!"

Nice try but the facts are the DNC rigged this for Obama and now that is backfiring on them. Obama is the master of the reverse spin where he plays the dirty hand and blames it on his opponent. It worked on Alice Palmer and it worked on Hillary Clinton. I don't think it is working on John McCain.

This is almost as good as New Coke: the campaign that almost killed the world's most successful soft drink. Lots of money invested, lots of air time aired but the product tasted terrible and no amount of money will keep a bad product in the market for long.

The press loves all this stuff... They love the horse race. They love the speculation. They love finding controversy where there is none.

And the Republicans... well they are just outraged! OUTRAGED!!! by anything that a Democrat does.

(A word of advice, if you are going to cheat on your wife with men or women, you should run as a Republican. If you are going to lie... run as a Republican. If you want to shop on Rodeo Drive and own multiple mansions... run as a Republican. If you want to botch your job and not be held accountable... run as a Republican.)

Posted by: blip | Aug 20, 2008 10:55:42 AM

Chris Matthews said yesterday that McCain is handing "permission slips" to racists to vote against Obama under the guise of "inexperience." Will this never end? Senator Obama's surrogates in the press are doing him no favors by painting the opposition as racists. Most white Americans will not be guilt-tripped into voting for Barack Obama. Accusing them of being racists only makes them angry. Believe it or not, many people, including Democrats, have good reason to oppose Obama. His lack of experience IS an issue, no matter what Chris Matthews and the others at the MSNBC-Obama network think.

Watch those superdelegtes carefully, Jake.

I have a feeling about this....Barry is tanking at just the right time for an insurrection.

Biden by a hair plug
Silk pony...$400 hair cut
Clinton on the tarmac while air traffic is shut down getting a hair cut
"Bayh by a (wife's) hair"

I will go with a bald guy anyday for pres or vp

Most legendary hair....Trafacant
any other votes?

Back From Iraq,
As a former Hillary Supporter, I will be interesting to see McCain’s choices too.

Posted by: stock_craft | Aug 20, 2008 10:26:52 AM

Kitty -

I get a laugh from people deriding Obama's off-the-cuff speaking abilities since McCain can't even read from the three by five cards that he holds in front of his face.

Posted by: Brooklyn Democrat | Aug 20, 2008 10:16:28 AM

I wish Hillary will stay way from his VP list because no matter who he picks, will make no different.

Posted by: stock_craft | Aug 20, 2008 10:12:35 AM

Does it really matter any more who Obama picks to be his running mate? The best Democrat names that were flung about earlier, from Senator James Webb (D-VA) on down have stated clearly that they wouldn’t have anything to do with the inside of an Obama Administration. Now Obama is scratching for names that few have heard of or with little notoriety, except perhaps John Edwards who could still vie for Obama’s attorney general. Obama and his handlers derailed themselves from the very beginning and nothing now can get his stalled campaign on track and moving.

Notably, John McCain has an all-star line-up to pick from. Few can doubt that McCain will start his presidency with the best choices of VP and cabinet members. It will be interesting to see McCain’s choices.

If he chooses Bayh, the stars are aligning as I thought they would. This is going to get very interesting before November.

June...this makes me laugh:

The older generation are not so influenced by words of promised change.

These are the people who voted Bush in twice!! OMG...please

Posted by: cindyct | Aug 20, 2008 9:56:46 AM

Please please please... anyone but Bayh!!!

Posted by: Blake | Aug 20, 2008 9:53:21 AM

Len...I think the Clintons sealed their fate with the negative campaign they ran that backfired on them!!! They were SO sure they were going to get the nom. that they said and did whatever they wanted...too bad, it would have been a good pair...

Posted by: newvoter | Aug 20, 2008 9:52:23 AM

I doff my hat to you for the line

(a tale of) cotton and fury, signifying nothing.

Indeed, all is vanity..

Posted by: Arthur | Aug 20, 2008 9:50:35 AM

Blame it on O. Did you ever have it in your mind that you are the one that look like a fool. This life long democrat has supported the party for years until this so called Messiah came along. The older generation are not so influenced by words of promised change. Actions speak louder than words and Obama's actions in government contradict his words!

Posted by: June | Aug 20, 2008 9:47:52 AM

This statement:

He is too self serving and does not show he is concerned about anything but attaining the highest office. More like Bush than any of the other candidates!

Sounds more like McCain than Obama. He is confused and lies at every confrontation to make himslef look good. Plus , as he said, he would walk into hell to get Bin Laden. Unfortunately it will be our sons and daughter"walking into hell," not him.

Posted by: militarymom | Aug 20, 2008 9:47:48 AM

Also read that Susan had appointment with her OBGYN. Wonder what that means?

Posted by: Lisa S | Aug 20, 2008 9:45:05 AM

It's definitely Bayh. Earlier in the week, Obama doffed his cap to Biden, now he's touring with Kaine. The Bayhs are making the preparations. He's the perfect fit in so many ways.

Posted by: hopesprings52 | Aug 20, 2008 9:33:42 AM

Obama set this drama up, with his be first to know txt. message crap.

If you got something to say, say it.

Posted by: Thinking | Aug 20, 2008 9:27:03 AM

June how is Obama self serving? He was the first to start going door to door during the primaries and guess who followed? Him and the power huh? What power? Assuming office after the disasters of Bush. Boy I'd want to jump into that power wouldn't you? Give me a break.

Posted by: AF veteran | Aug 20, 2008 9:26:51 AM

Hey, all.....Hillary could STILL pull off The Nomination. .....providing the SuperDelegates secretly switch to vote for her at the Convention, because those SuperDelegates see what a mistake they had made saying initially that they were voting for obama.

Watch and see what happens......the obama people will be crying all the way to the 2012 Convention and beyond......

Posted by: From Democrat to Independant | Aug 20, 2008 9:24:12 AM

Funny how everyone is blaming the timeline for picking a VP on Obama, does anyone know who McCain's choice is? How long has he had to choose?

Posted by: Blame it on O | Aug 20, 2008 9:20:32 AM

Obama has lost your vote? Drama king? Cripes. Here we go again. Let me guess: You think that Obama is a CELEBRITY who wants NEW TAXES and MORE FOREIGN OIL (after watching the commercial a thousand times and being told - in all caps - how you should think). The idocracy continues. About 81 percent of Americans think the country is "on the wrong track" yet 50 percent are gonna vote for the guy who wants to stay the course. Dumb dumb dumb. Infuriatingly dumb. Wake up. Drama king? How about potentially the most important President in a very long time. If you agree the President is largely a figurehead, who better to be the face of the nation in the coming years? Or maybe you like being thought of as fools.

Posted by: TruePatriot | Aug 20, 2008 9:18:40 AM

Just a clarification on my earlier posts...

I'm a big supporter of Mccain and not Obama as I had claimed earlier...

I guess I got carried away in lalaland!

Posted by: dl | Aug 20, 2008 9:16:18 AM

OH for crying out loud... got her hair and nails done? Geez, my bet is she does this all the time. Boy you guys need something better to do. And boy are you all going to feel like idiots if Obama picks Hillary. She and Bill sure have been quiet. I wonder if THAT means anything. Personally I hope that's what happens just to show you guys up.

Posted by: a reader in georgia | Aug 20, 2008 9:16:03 AM

My wish is that Americans would care as much about the economic and foreign policy plans of the two candidates as they do about the choice for VP. Similarly, it is hoped that the candidates would make as much effort to publicize said plans. The revealing of the VP choice is like Monica's blue dress: fascinating but in the end of little circumstance.

Obama forgot his young supporters have a short attention span.

The big story is Obama threatening McCain.

Posted by: geevill | Aug 20, 2008 9:14:17 AM

and anyone knows I am a huge Obama supporter...

just this is getting stupid, childish and self serving.

It's not America's impatience...

it's the sense that his VP pick is looking calculated to what's good for him...and not what's good for the country.

Posted by: dl | Aug 20, 2008 9:10:44 AM

He wants to make up his mind, but as he's talking to himself, he gets confused by his own ahhh ummmm ahhh ummms. Then, he's so confused and can't remember what he just told himself - just like the rest of us. He just needs to ask Michelle who the choice is going to be, and get on with it.

Posted by: Kitty | Aug 20, 2008 9:07:21 AM

Obama has already lost my vote so who he picks doesn't matter. He is becoming the drama king, it is all about him and the power. He is too self serving and does not show he is concerned about anything but attaining the highest office. More like Bush than any of the other candidates!

Posted by: June | Aug 20, 2008 9:00:28 AM

The longer this drags out, the sillier Obama looks.

Pick Hillary, and if they lose we will be done with them both for 2012
