Democrats Seek to Undermine Anti-Obama Author With His Own Words

August 14, 2008 5:50 PM

Today a full-blown Democratic campaign emerged to undermine one of the authors who helped destroy Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., in 2004.

The New York Times referred this week to author Jerome Corsi – author of a screed against Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, "The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality," which will debut on the New York Times best-seller list for nonfiction hard cover books this Sunday at No. 1 -- as a "conservative gadfly."

Based on some of Corsi’s previous writings, that’s probably one of the nicer terms for him.

And officials from the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee – aided by the Democratic activists at Media Matters – are doing everything they can to make the public aware of those words.

Beyond the questionable and disputed claims in Corsi’s anti-Obama book and the one Corsi co-authored in 2004, “Unfit for Command,” which sought to discredit Kerry’s Vietnam war service, Corsi has, as a poster on the conservative site freerepublic.com, made a number of comments that are pretty out there.

Writing as "jrlc," Corsi wrote that maybe the Pope “can tell the UN what he's going to do about the sexual crimes committed by ‘priests’ in his ‘Church’ during his tenure. Or, maybe that's the connection -- boy buggering in both Islam and Catholicism is okay with the Pope as long as it isn't reported by the liberal press.”

He also wrote that "this is what the last days of the Catholic Church are going to look like. Buggering boys undermines the moral base and the lawyers rip the gold off the Vatican altars. We may get one more Pope, when this senile one dies, but that's probably about it."

He wrote of the Democratic Party that it's "the official SODOMIZER PROTECTION ASSOCIATION of AMERICA" and of Arabs he wrote "RAGHEADS are Boy-Bumpers as clearly as they are Women-Haters -- it all goes together." At another time he wrote "why it isn't the case that Islam is a worthless, dangerous Satanic religion? Where's the proof to the contrary?"

And of Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, Corsi asked "Anybody ask why HELLary couldn't keep BJ Bill satisfied? Not lesbo or anything, is she?"

(We'll see how many anti-Obama angry Clinton supporters embrace Corsi's book regardless.)

As Politico noted this morning, Corsi "has left a trail of wild theories, vitriol and dogma that have called into question his credibility."

Corsi told Politico, "I wrote those to be provocative and I said I would not use that kind of politically incorrect language again, and I don’t believe I have."

Democrats seeking to discredit Corsi have pointed out that he’s made other interesting comments, such as in a January 29, 2008,  interview with a conspiracy-minded radio host (listen here) when Corsi said the US government wasn’t telling the whole truth about what happened at the World Trade Center during 9/11. Corsi gives much credence to the claim by physicist Steven Jones who claims the towers exploded because of explosives inside the building.

"World Trade Center dust forms the iron sphere that can only be formed at extremely high temperatures," Corsi said, "jet fuel doesn't…The government's explanation of the jet fuel fire is not a sufficient explanation to explain the evidence of these spheres – these microscopic spheres – that Steven Jones has proved existed within the WTC dust."

Democrats are sending out that link, and the DNC’s rapid response team sent out an email today saying of Corsi: "One of the most vile smear peddlers of the 2004 election has found a new target…We cannot afford to let Corsi get away with the same dirty tricks that fooled so many people in 2004. We can't rely on the media to hold him accountable -- in fact, the sheer brazenness of the lies is attracting even more coverage. The media have shown that they aren't going to stop him. It's up to you to spread the truth…"

The DNC calls Corsi "too crazy even for Swiftboat liars," noting that the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported in September 2004 that "Jerome Corsi has dropped from the marketing" – of "Unfit for Command" – "because he has been revealed as the author of religiously bigoted remarks published on a Web site. Corsi not only considers Muslims to be pederasts, but he took the trouble to slam Catholic priests and refers to the pope as senile. Rather than wonder whether a book written by such a man can be trusted, the marketing tactic has shifted to pretend Corsi doesn't exist."

Earlier today the Obama campaign sent out an email repeating the DNC’s claim that Corsi is a "vile smear-peddler…back with a new book of lies." (I'm not certain if the Democrats are using "vile" to apply to the "smears" or to Corsi.)

The Obama campaign is calling its latest, 40-page anti-Corsi effort 'Unfit for Publication,' a fact-check of the latest Republican attack machine’s book, full of false, rehashed attacks."

And this afternoon Media Matters noted that Corsi "is scheduled to appear with host James Edwards on the August 17 edition of The Political Cesspool Radio Show, which, according to its 'Statement of Principles'  ‘represent[s] a philosophy that is pro-White.’ In a blog post, Edwards has stated that '[i]interracial sex is white genocide.'"

Corsi's book is being published by a Simon & Schuster imprint run by Mary Matalin.

Corsi is just another standup commedian. Today, all of them resort to insulting everybody they can think of and the drunken audiences cheer, clap and yell. It's one way to make a living, but does anyone know where the line is that they cross to do so?

Why should John McCain have to defend Obama? He certainly doesn't know Obama's life history. And I don't see Obama rushing to defend any Republicans, including the President himself. Let Obama file a lawsuit claiming slander. I'll bet he won't because he can't.
Now, where can I buy a copy?

"We live in a country where people are pretty much free to say and write whatever they want (at least for the time being) even if those statements are not true or (gasp) might hurt somebody's feelings."
This comment is not true, nor should it be. The point of freedom is to allow responsible people the self-determination to control their own lives. When lies and slander are said or written by someone, about someone else, then they are in fact, having their freedom impinged by the lying party. Your reputation is your personal property, and the ability for the truth to be known is important about public figures, instead of confusing the weak minded with propaganda. It's called libel and slander and its against the law for a good reason.

Corsi 'footnotes ' himself several times in this book....nuff said. Ofcourse McShame won't comment on this pack of lies until pressed by a reporter where he will retort 'eh, Democrats can't take a joke' heheh.

Obama thinks we're all so stupid that he could cover-up his past and either no one would notice or no one would care. Unfortunately, in order to run for president, you have to meet certain qualifications, and Barry Soetoro's past is about to catch up to him.

Stay tuned. If the Democrats don't stop him at the convention, the Republicans will stop him before election day. On the flipside, McCain is bumping up against his own problems, which he may or may not be able to outmaneuver.

This is the most fascinating election cycle of my lifetime, and I lived through the 60s. Get your sodas and popcorn ready, don't take any of it seriously enough to raise your blood pressure dangerously high, and enjoy the show!

Hmmm, interesting that they're attacking Corsi's character rather than the footnoted claims he makes in the book regarding Obama. The fact that a claim has been disputed means nothing; see Obama's fake birth certificate as Exhibit A.

I personally find Corsi's anonymous internet comments repulsive; we've all seen similar behavior on this blog. However; truth is truth and while you can indeed shoot the messenger, the truth of the message will continue to ring loud and clear.

I think the fact that Corsi's a 9/11 Truther is most disturbing to the Right; therefore, I'm telling all my RW friends about it.

What a flippin' crackpot!

Corsi is not a member of the GOP and is not affiliated with McCain in any way.

Further, McCain has no reason and no business condemning Corsi's book.

We live in a country where people are pretty much free to say and write whatever they want (at least for the time being) even if those statements are not true or (gasp) might hurt somebody's feelings.

I haven't read the book and don't plan to, but from what I gather about the content of the book, it just rehashes everything that's already been said about Obama.

So what are people worried about?

Living in a country that protects freedom of speech and press? In such a society, the responsibility for separating truth from lie is on the consumer (or as here the voter).

This book isn't going to sway anyone either way.

If people are really so upset about it, then don't ever purchase anything from the publisher or anything written by Corsi.

Very telling reading this comment section..."It's a best seller!" "He has footnotes for everything!" I'm convinced that this country is full of little pawns whose weak minds can only be filled with supermarket tabloid headlines. Not ONE thought out comment about McCain's 'past', his rolling over for those who stabbed him in the back in 2000, his stand on various issues (look for daily changes based on the political winds).... No, just blind, puerile hate for a well-educated, VISIONARY candidate.

The sales of the book are not as much a concern as people might think.

In the record business, many, many an album went up the chart due not to the individual sales of the title. Rather, there were...um...more creative ways of 'selling' that resulted in higher than true unit sales.

Of these, bulk purchases were one of the ways. The main way this title is selling. As if someone was 'buying the book back."

What I wonder if the Times can determine the actual individually scanned copy sales (think Billboard's 'SoundScan' system for music and internet sales) and break those out from the bulk buys.

My guess is this book is not selling as well as its chart position will indicate.

Corsi apparently hits home well enough
to unnerve a heck of a lot of Ohbama
mouthpieces. They're EVEYWHERE in print
and on TV. Where's Ohbama?.....I hope
scrambling for coherent rebuttals to
the main points in the book. He can't
slick himself through this wicket with
proxies alone.

Really, seriously, yeah honestly, am enjoying obama nation. Everyone should read it.

The people below tearing down Obama voted Bush into office TWICE.

TWICE.

You need to look no further to understand why this country is on the brink of ruin and collapse. It doesn't have anything to do with the politicos. It has everything to do with YOU.

Buy a mirror, have a look, assign some blame.

Rob - "Jerome Korsi did not go to Harvard. That is a complete fabrication."

You mean Wiki.. lies:

He earned a B.A. from Case Western Reserve University in 1968, and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from Harvard University in 1972; his dissertation was titled Prior Restraint, Prior Punishment, and Political Dissent; a Moral and Legal Evaluation.[1] He has also published numerous works on political protest and terrorism.

This author distorts the truth just like he did with Kerry and the swiftboat fabrication. At least Kerry fought. Bush didn't even lift a hand and yet Corsi singled out Kerry to smear.
Obama's lack of experience? Lately experience counts for very little in the White House. McCain's just more of the same Bush policies.
Obama "occupying the Oval Office"? A damn site better than what's in there now. In fact you'd have to search quite far to find someone worse. I'm a former Republican, but Bush and his cronies have ruined it for the moderate Republicans in the party. The uncecessary war in Iraq will cost us more than a decade of excessive social spending. I hope we can get back to moderate ground, ie. moderate Democrat, moderate Republican. McCain's not it either. He's flip flopped so much on the issues he's like a freshly caught trout. He'll say anything to get elected. But the worst thing about him is that he's embraced Bush's failed policies! Obama may be somewhat of an unknown but he'd have to be really bad to screw up worse than Bush did. My vote goes for Obama. The big Iraq mistake trumps all other considerations.

The reality is that the NYT has lost its credibility, the DNC has lost its legitimacy, the MSM has created a phantom candidate. Some one needs to tell the Am. public who the real Barack Obama is. Might as well start with Corsi.

Posted by: hype bites | Aug 14, 2008 11:14:37 PM

yaaaawwwnnnnn.

who cares.

Posted by: PulSamsara | Aug 14, 2008 11:12:36 PM

This is not McCain's fight. Obama is in the big league now. It's up to him. However, overreacting will only make it worst.

I am reading Obama Nation. I have looked up all the footnotes/references that Corsi has provided for each controversial situation regarding B.H. Obama in his book Obama Nation. It seems that Corsi has become the 3rd party in most of his research. In other words, Corsi is just retelling stories that seem to show Obama's autobiography is full of lies and untruths. Sometimes, Corsi's vernacular drags by in his attempt to prove a point. But in general, Corsi makes his point that Obama has created a fictional story of his past, and I as a reader am convinced that Corsi has suceeded in telling the truth about B.H. Obama. Read the book and find out for yourself.

Obama’s response to Corsi’s book is full of untruthful statements. For example, Obama claims that "AYERS AND DOHRN ARE MEMBERS OF THE ESTABLISHMENT WITH TIES TO THE MAYOR" (p. 16 of the Obama document). Besides Ayers participation in waging war on the United States in the late Sixties and early Seventies by setting off bombs at the Capitol and Pentagon (among several dozen bombings,) Ayers was quoted in the New York Times on Sept. 11, 2001 as saying that he did not regret the bombings and wishes he had done more. Ayers and Dohrn are known to have held at least one fund raiser for Obama in their Chicago home. During Obama’s last year on the board of the Woods Fund that Ayers was a member of, in 2002 Obama participated in awarding a $70,000 grant to the Arab-American Action Network a Chicago based group founded by Rashid and MOna Kalidi who also held a fundraiser in their home for Obama. From 1972 through 1983 Kahlidi was the director in Beirut of the official Palestinian press agency FAFA.
