Florida Dems Hit McCain's Wealth -- Including Cindy

August 22, 2008 4:11 PM

In this new ad from the Florida Democratic Party not only is Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., attacked as wealthy and out of touch -- but so is his wife Cindy, who is shown on CNN talking about jetting around Arizona.

Faced with attacks against his wife Michelle by state Republican parties, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, has argued that "families are off limits."

Obama told CBN's David Brody that "I would never consider making Cindy McCain a campaign issue, and if I saw people doing that - I would speak out against it. And the fact that I haven't seen that from John McCain I think is a deep disappointment."

McCain spox Jill Hazelbaker said in a statement: “It is profoundly disappointing to see surrogates for Barack Obama attacking Cindy McCain, particularly after Obama himself claimed that ‘families are off limits’ and pledged to ‘speak out against’ attacks on spouses in this campaign. If Barack Obama expects the American people to believe he is a man of his word, he has a personal responsibility to condemn this ad.”

It is getting real tirubg listening to all the Chicken Littles running to and fro screaming "Drill Here Drill Now" , you idiots. They are drilling and alot here now, there is no shortage of crude oil at the well head, in the transit to refineries, and no gasoline shortages either, so shut up and grow up.

Ryan:

Spouting off more GOP talking points?? on things you haven't spent any time researching??? Drilling is going on all over America right now and in the Gulf of Mexico and off shore in Alaskan waters also, with oil selling for as high as it was are you so stupid as to think that Exxon Mobil and all the others weren't out there getting all the oil pumped they could to sell to China at those high prices???

In politics like everything else, one must fight fire with fire to be successful. McSame has turned this campaign negative and now must face the consequences. And, given his history of corruption and scandal, it won't be a pretty sight.

Fact check is putting words in people's mouth they never said.
Excample: "Right! Inflating your tires will solve the long term oil-dependency problem"

Nobody has said inflating tires would solve the dependency problem.

Care to give it another try?

Ryan,

Then, you do not ever need to worry about fighting a war in the middle east.

1 trillion dollars will solve your nuclear waste problem.

Posted by: fact check | Aug 22, 2008 7:53:27 PM

Nuclear waste is till an issue though, even for the French

Interesting article I just happened upon on PBS's Frontline discusses how France devloped its nuclear program and convinced its populace that going nuclear was the way to go

Posted by: Ryan | Aug 22, 2008 7:51:53 PM

"I can tell you one way for sure energy independence isn't achieved. Blocking all oil drilling and refinery building for the past 30 years."

NIMBY, the ultimate indisputable political force, my friend. You want the refinery build it in your backyard. Same can be said of nuclear power.

Also drilling leases were sold for the Gulf during the Clinton years.

"That's an undisputable fact."

You don't seem to understand what a fact is. The above is specious reasoning.

That we do not have energy independence is not predicated upon our selling leases to drill oil to multinational companies who are free to sell that oil on the open market. In fact the latter has nothing to do with the former.

Posted by: Ryan | Aug 22, 2008 7:47:56 PM

Research and technology development has to be stimulated by government funding, coupled with relaxation of strict regulations imposed currently. The scar tactic of 0-bama supporters of "nuclear waste" is only a scare tactic. You need to look no further, France generate its >80% electricity by nuclear energy.

If you spend 1 trillion dollars investment, about the current spending in Iraq, you (1) create technology (2) create jobs (3) most importantly solve oil-dependency problem once for all.

Nuclear energy is the only CLEAN and Unlimited energy source on this planet, or on any planet.

Posted by: fact check | Aug 22, 2008 7:44:25 PM

Now I am intrigued.

$1 Trillion for nuke power development.

So would these be government owned utilities or would these be subsidies the the nuclear industry (acknowledging that the industry would change somewhat with that infusion of cash, new companies, new technologies etc)

Perhaps you can explain then how energy independence is achieved by selling leases to oil to multinational companies that are then free to sell in on the world market?
----

(1) make sure 0-bama is not in position to make decisions by voting or signing bills to give oil companies taxes credits and leases.

(2) spend $1 trillion dollars in the next 20 years to develop technology and build nuclear power plants so that 70% electricity is generated by nuclear power.

(3) nobody said conservation and developing solar, aqua, wind, corn energies were bad - they are great, but they contribute no more than 20% of all energy need in the best possible case.

Posted by: fact check | Aug 22, 2008 7:36:10 PM

"Yup, but using inflating-your-tire as your energy policy so that you do not need to drill for new oil productions is "

He should have applied his quote to ANWR and he would have been fine.

Claiming drilling for oil helps us now is preying on ignorance.

And you know damn well that tire pressure is not the sum of his energy plan.

For a guy who doesn't like McCain you sure absorb his bs pretty readily.
"(2) it is ignorant itself and shows his cluelessness in energy policies."

An openness to compromise on drilling along with a slew of efficiency measures and incentives for alternative fuels is bad?

Why?

Posted by: Ryan | Aug 22, 2008 7:33:44 PM

Since when is it shameful to be rich! Cindy is helping to pay for all those programs Obama holds dear to his heart. Thank you, Cindy! However, the title ELITIST belongs to BO!

Posted by: Beckie | Aug 22, 2008 7:32:39 PM

"Fuel conservation cuts demand, not raises supply. Drilling for oil raises supply."

Damn my quick typing! Talking about consumption and I throw supply in there Terrible spelling in that one as well.

"It's these simple economic principles that keeps you "low-information" types voting Democrat."

Perhaps you can explain then how energy independence is achieved by selling leases to oil to multinational companies that are then free to sell in on the world market?

Perhaps you can explain why an immediate reduction in demand thru efficiency is bad?

Posted by: Ryan | Aug 22, 2008 7:29:26 PM

Geesh, can people stop with using the term "attack" everytime someone is quoted...they played a clip of an interview Cindy gave...if that's an attack... well it's like crying wolf, when an attack actually does happen no one will care :O

Posted by: tinat | Aug 22, 2008 7:27:35 PM

Ryan,

"Car maintenance and tire pressure are things we (and I mean each and every car owner) can do immediatelly"

Yup, but using inflating-your-tire as your energy policy so that you do not need to drill for new oil productions is (1) assuming Americans are ignorant (as 0-bama he himself, although not surprising in view of his condescending views of the American public), and (2) it is ignorant itself and shows his cluelessness in energy policies.

Posted by: fact check | Aug 22, 2008 7:24:13 PM

Whoops. Looks like I misread it.

The point still stands:

McCain has taken in 4 times as much money and is ready to do the oil companies bidding.

Obama only will do leasing as part of a larger energy plan involving compromise on alternative fuels.

Factcheck,

1 last thing then enjoy your weekend.

Car maintenance and tire pressure are things we (and I mean each and every car owner) can do immediately that would conserve fuel thereby raising supplly and brining down prices. Prices of oil are already coming down because of the feared economic downturns here and in Europe will result in less consumption.

I just don't understand why you would criticize something so simple that any of us can do it that has been shown to help the situation.

It even involves car maintenance!

Not a tree to hug in sight so there's no need to overcompensate by implying its for wusses.
