Kaine Says Russians "Complied With" Obama's Request for a Ceasefire; Tanks Continue Rolling Into Gori

August 13, 2008 7:44 AM

"The Senator's goal was to be tough and smart," Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine said of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, "and so when the action (in Georgia) happened on Thursday, he immediately called for a ceasefire, condemned the unwarranted use of force by Russia.  It was a bad crisis for the world.  It required tough words, but also a smart approach to call on the international community to step in -- and I'm very, very happy that the senator's request for a ceasefire has been complied with by President Medvedev.”

Kaine, thought to be on Obama's short list for VP, was speaking to Fox News Channel.

Georgian officials, meanwhile, say that Russian tanks have continued to roll into the Georgian city of Gori, the ceasefire notwithstanding.

It's completely brain dead to imply that either candidate has had, or will have, any impact on the situation in Georgia - unless it lasts until the next President takes office.

Who accepted public funding and who didn't again?

Hmmmmmm! Thought you Obama fans would be for Russia. Afterall, they were against the Iraq war too! According to the presumptuous one, that call shows good judgement and is the primary criteria for becoming POTUS! Lol!

Kaine is a joke - perfect fit for Obama!

sorry for the typos, I am getting tired.

mike:

where does th eother 97% comeform? coal? a dirty fuel still. Or nuclear? Still environmentally insane fuel source. We need to be able to nuetralize the waste.

Posted by: stressa | Aug 13, 2008 12:58:25 PM

sorry, stressa but you're wrong. only 3% of US electricity comes from oil

Posted by: Mike | Aug 13, 2008 12:42:02 PM

Mike:

I am referring to Iran now. If they lead the world in wind power, why must they build nuclear plants? they have enough oil to run everything. Why on earth would they want nuclear if it produces radioactive waste which has an afterlife of thousands of years? This is much more environmentally irresponsible.

Posted by: stressa | Aug 13, 2008 12:41:43 PM

Mike:

What major thing that is running doesnt use oil? We have some nuclear but that really isnt the answer because there is a problem with waste disposal. What do you think? You can add a few drops of this and let it cycle and add a few drops of that and let it cycle to nullify the waste and make it safe and environmentally sound?
I am sorry but I dont think it is wise to pull your pants down out in the street in December because you have heat in your house down the street. It all goes right back to my original statement- we need fire engines and hospitals now not when we implement newer technologies tomorrow.

len, whether they planned this fiasco ahead or not (obviously Saakashvili did, Bush maybe, hard to believe that McCain's advisor was out of the loop), that has nothing to do with supporting Russia. Just because McCains advisor is in the payroll of a foreign country doesnt mean I support the other side.

Someone send Kaine Max Boots article in LAT yesterday.

Posted by: Noah | Aug 13, 2008 12:26:29 PM

So Mike, you are suggesting that the US planned with Georgia to attack the province and now you are cheering for the Russians?

Ummm... you do know how wingnut sounding that is, right? You do know that if such a position were laid at Obama's feet as his idea that his defeat would not only be in this race but in every race for the rest of his life, yes?

Sleeping around on the wife is one kind of sin. Treason is another.

Posted by: len | Aug 13, 2008 12:20:16 PM

Stressa, you are wrong, you cant run everything on oil.

Posted by: Mike | Aug 13, 2008 12:09:33 PM

What a joke, Obama asked for it and he got it, Well I guess Russia thought he meant them to Flip-Flop!!

Yes Obama now is taking credit for France and Pres. Bush!!

The Messiah!! NOT!!

It looks like Saakashvili and Bush have been planning this for a while. Last month, they had war games together in Georgia. (I'd link to MSNBC news item on this but it has since been scrubbed)

I believe that they thought they could defeat the South Ossetian forces much quicker, and be in defensive positions before the Russians responded.

The Ossetians repelled the initial attempts of the Georgians to take their capital, hence the Georgians resorting to atrocities, and the Russians being able to drive through the area very quickly.

I think that Bush and Saakashvili were hoping to present Medvedev with a fait accompli, and having badly miscalculated are now stuck having to surrender under the most onerous terms to the Russians.

I'm waiting to see how the MSM spins Kaine's statement. It's ludicrous on the face of it but makes nice fodder for a quick ad.

Hilarious! Obama Speaks And The Tanks Stop In Their Tracks!

Do the Democrats realize that Obama's campaign has become self-parodying?

Posted by: len | Aug 13, 2008 12:03:48 PM

It's down right frightening how delusional Obama supporters are, especially the ones like Kaine who are actually governing us.

Posted by: OxyCon | Aug 13, 2008 11:55:38 AM

LMAO! AHAHAHA!! Obama and his handlers are total jokes!!

Posted by: USVet | Aug 13, 2008 11:52:44 AM

oil is not only for running cars. It is used to run A LOT of things and make A LOT of products. You make oil so irrelevant. which it is most certainly not.

Posted by: stressa | Aug 13, 2008 11:52:35 AM

stressa, oil is good for running cars, but not so efficient for generating electricity. Iran, for example, has tons of oil and yet is still building nuclear plants. (they are also the region's leader in wind power)

Posted by: Mike | Aug 13, 2008 11:45:34 AM

Bush had no foreign policy experience and look how easily his handlers led him into Iraq.
Obama has no foreign policy experience where will his handlers lead him?????
