Obama, Biden Congratulate Palin
August 29, 2008 7:02 PM
At Pennsylvania Biodiesel Inc. in Monaca, Penn., this afternoon, Sens. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, and Joe Biden, D-Del., congratulated Gov. Sarah Palin, the new running mate of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
"I haven't met her before," Obama said. "She seems like a compelling person ... with a terrific personal story. I'm sure that she will help make the case for Republicans.
"Unfortunately the case is more of the same, and so ultimately John McCain is at the top of the ticket," Obama said. "He wants to take the country in the wrong direction, I'm assuming Gov. Palin agrees with him and his policies. But the fact that she ... will soon be nominated ... is one more indicator of this country moving forward ... one more hit against that glass ceiling. I congratulate her and look forward to a vigorous debate."
Added Biden, "I'm looking forward to meeting her."
Then this afternoon, from his campaign bus, Obama called Palin. Per Obama senior adviser Robert Gibbs, Obama told her she would be a terrific candidate and that he looked forward to seeing her on the campaign trail. He also wished her good luck -- but not too much luck.

Sarah Palin is a governor with two years of authentic experience. This spares this race the specter of an all-senator show. And history shows it's far better preparation for the presidency than other offices. A governor must execute budgets, pull factions together, compromise on tough issues, and make the buck stop there. If Palin's short stint as governor calls into question her experience, it's still superior to Barack Obamas two years in the U.S. senate!

Cecilia: "therefore has an actual connection to our concerns"
Then why is everybody unable to CITE anything she has ACTUALLY done instead of just repeating the flimflam the McCain camp is putting out?

Sarah Palin: Finally, somebody who is not an elite! She is actually a product of the middle class and therefore has an actual connection to our concerns. In addition, unlike Obama she has actually accomplished something other than winning approval just because she is charismatic. As a mayor she cut her own salary and reduced property taxes by 40 percent. As a governor, she “took on corruption within her own party and won.” She has also implemented a senior benefits program that helps low income Alaskans pay for health-care. She has solutions to the energy crisis that is hurting every American.
She is the epitome of Obama’s platform in change. She is someone who has actually accomplished change in a way that actually helps middle to low income people. I would put her accomplishments over Obama’s any day, which to me makes her more qualified than Obama. I have yet to read an actual accomplishment of Obama’s that have helped Americans. He is all talk and no action. It’s not how many years you have been in office. It’s -what have you done? Sarah Palin is the real change not Obama.
Also, McCain is not dead yet. Don’t dig his grave when his doctors have declared him to be in good health. My sister (26 years old) is a three time cancer survivor and is healthy now. If McCain had an immediate health concern, then I would be more willing to talk about the possibility of Palin possibly becoming president if McCain is elected and passes away before his term is up. But that is not the case now. Anyway, the thin resume guy is at the top of Democrat ticket… Palin is at the bottom of the Republican ticket.

GO Koolaid:
As yourself -- why haven't we had a Senator win the presidency since JFK? In over 45 years, not one senator has won the White House.
Why?
Because they don't have executive experience. Senators are one voice among 99 others. They don't run anything but their mouths.
Thankfully the American people understand that, even if you don't.

I am not impressed with either of the presidential candidates, but I believe Obama is the worse of two evils. Barack Obama has run his campaign on supporting the middle and lower class, yet many of his policies I believe will hurt those same people.
For example, Obama is in favor of raising the capital gains tax by a large percentage. This would severely damage small businesses within the United States. Small businesses often do no make a profit their first couple years. Once profits are made, they are used to pay off loans and make further investments that will spur growth. This usually leads to the hiring of more employees. If the capital gains tax is raised, many small businesses will fail, reducing jobs and future entrepreneurial endeavors. In a country where there are at least 23 million small business owners and 70% of middle to lower income workers are employed by small businesses, this could be disastrous.
In addition, Barack Obama says that he will free us from dependency on foreign oil in 10 years. If he does not allow for drilling or nuclear energy, his goal is not possible. While I am completely in support of developing alternative energies, every energy professional I have ever spoken with has said that the technologies for alternative energies (current and future) are not capable of replacing oil anytime soon. Therefore under Obama, energy prices would continue to increase, driving up food and gas prices. Another blow for middle to lower income America. On a further note, oil in not used solely for energy. Oil is used in asphalt (which makes up our roads), plastics, and pharmaceuticals. So, while we’re at it, lets raise the cost of infrastructure and health care.

SARAH PALIN : Blue-collar background, ability to juggle the titles of “governor” and “committed mother of five"...with hubby in the union ...
That IS a very formidable candidate !
GO MCCAIN ~ COUNTRY FIRST
GO PALIn ~ PEOPLE FIRST

cindy in nc: Palin has *never* been in Iraq. She's visited troups in Kuwait and Germany.
And probably Canada in her lifetime.
Before she went to Kuwait in 2007, she had to get a passport first because she hadn't one.

Several posts on this blog from Republicans defending this pick have said Obama and Hillary Clinton have done nothing. Are you suggesting that a US Senator does nothing in comparison to the Governer of Alaska? So are we then to assume she brings more executive experience than the 72 year old Senator at the top of the ticket because he's never 'run anything'? I admit some Republican spin is amusing and in some cases logical but this one is just plain stupid. When Hillary was helping NYC pick it's self up of the mat after 9/11, Palin was mayor of some podunk town in rural Alaska. Senator Obama got legislation passed to stop the spread of loose nukes. Palin was a tough gal and a reformer but let's just say the Alaskan statehouse is a target rich enviroment for any ambitious politician. I'm not saying she isn't experienced but she AIN'T NO HILLARY. Palin is young and exciting but damn sure ain't no Obama. When republlican's wake up and blow the pixie dust out their noses you will see this was pure political despiration.

Bay -
Remember, "It Takes a Village"...I am sure Governor Palin has a highly effective and loving support system in place for the care of all her children.
Mothers of special needs children do not abandon their "infant on the side of an Alaskan road." They do RISE TO THE OCCASION, get resourceful, and find a way, make a way, to take care of their families. Correction, this is what ALL mothers do when faced with a challenge! The best problem solvers, multi-taskers, and cool-headed thinkers in face of a crisis are MOTHERS!
Shame on you..please, crawl back to your cave!

This is what I'm talking about Mccain is always white I mean right. Taking a woman with 18 mos of supposed experience. Listen up, Obama spent years fighting for blacks on the south side of chicago, HE WAS A STATE LEGISTLATOR FOR 7 YEARS.

Amy.... Great Post, I don't agree with Gov. Palin on alot social issues, but I have to respect her abilities as a Executive and as a "mother". I am still in disbelief that Hillary was passed over, what were they thinking?

Bay.
I'm sure you will NOT understand this, but your post re Palin's baby is one reason that I am a conservative Rep. I believe that the Dems are really afraid that Gov. Palin will swing the election - therefore, all the trash in her direction - even that which makes no sense.

Dear Fellow Democrats:
Q: Who else do we know that was the mother of five when she entered politics, prior to that "just a soccer mom" who volunteered in her local party?
A: Nancy Pelosi
Anyone doubt that Sexism is still RAMPANT in our own party! I may not agree with Palin's political views but I do not doubt or underestimate her abilities. Everything I've read is that she is intelligent, hard-working, has actual accomplishments as Governor and Mayor, from the working middle class, principled, and actually stands squarely behind her convictions and beliefs...not something I can say of most career politicians. She is an unknown but formidable VP choice and this is now a new ball game. She is the right choice for the Republican ticket which is still the wrong direction for our county.
McCain's strategy here is absolutely brilliant, like it or not. Just look at the posts. Looks like "sexism" is the new "racism". Drop the "experience" whining as that only highlights Obama's achilles. Drop the Roe v Wade fear fest as many in the middle believe that McCain would never be able to get a "wrong" judge confirmed through what will be a strong Democratic Congress. Drop the "shame on her for not staying home and raising her baby" angle, as many WORKING MOTHERS of all political views do this every day because it is what is right for them and their family.
The Obama-Biden ticket better get out there and really start talking real details and policy...the how, by when, and how are they going to pay for it, if they want to win this election and save our nation. Start clearly laying out the distinctions of where are our nation will go under McCain-Palin vs Obama-Biden.
Stupid stupid Democrats for not taking Clinton on the ticket...once again we reap what we sow!

Palin was head of the National guard for two years and has been to Iraq more than Obama.
She made executive decisions everyday, balanced a budget, passed energy bills, vetoed 300 wasteful spending bills.
Obama spent 140 working days in the Senate and voted present 129 times.
And spent millions on his earmarks.
So it's OK for an inexperience man to be president.
But it's not OK for an experienced woman to be VP.

Great post! keep posting that because it will help Obama get elected.

Bay....Sara Palin and her husband have raised 4 other children just fine without your advice. The only immorality that is going on here is people like yourself and in the media questioning her judgement as a mother.

The DNC said No to women.
The RNC said Yes to women.
Sarah Palin made history yesterday. Will she receive the same media attention Obama got for making history?
Posted by: riley | Aug 30, 2008 9:59:25 AM
Obama hates women and small town America women because he has to look at an angry one everyday small towns because he an elitist.

Sarah is one thing Obama will never be.
She's a person guys will consider one of them.
By picking Biden their ticket became a part of The Good Old Boys in Washington.
Obama/Biden is a boring ticket.
McCain made the "in your face" pick.
And that is why I love him.
