Obama Campaign Responds to McCain's Congratulatory TV Ad
August 28, 2008 5:07 PM
Tonight, the campaign of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., will air a TV ad congratulating Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., on his nomination, with a nod to the fact that Obama's speech coincides with the 45th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.
"Sen. Obama, this is truly a good day for America," McCain says in the ad, speaking to his rival. "Too often the achievements of our opponents go unnoticed. So, I wanted to stop and say congratulations. How perfect that your nomination would come on this historic day. Tomorrow, we'll be back at it. But tonight, Senator, job well done."
Obama campaign manager David Plouffe -- who did not know the content of the ad until we read him the script -- just told us that the McCain ad is "a very nice gesture. We appreciate that. I wish more of his ads had that tone. But for tonight, we appreciate it and will congratulate him next week on his nomination."

HMMMMM,
SINCE YOU NEED THINGS IN CAPS TO UNDERSTAND.
OBAMA SPOKE AT KING'S CHURCH AND LAID A WREATH AT HIS MEMORIAL.
JOHN MCCAIN VOTED AGAINST MAKING DR. KING'S BIRTHDAY A FEDERAL HOLIDAY.

Ryan C- you are so wrong.

jschmidt,
What is wrong with Obama calling on his supporters to call WGN to complain about smears against him?
Don't you believe in free speech for all or only Stanley Kurtz?

"Ryan C- You and the rest of the far left have a shortsighted view of Iraq. You think if everyone comes home and we pull a curtain around us no one will touch us."
Ummm bringing our troops home from a war that was entered into based on lies does not equal isolationism (yes I know your pesky black and white thinking got the best of you).
It means removing our combat forces.
We still have over 100 worldwide bases and 11 aircraft carrier groups.
We will continue to enjoy the ability to project military power anywhere in the world. And we'll be able to do so with a military that is no longer struggling to maintain readiness.
"But the real world is global. We leave Iraq unstable and we will pay the price in the long run. "
We've already paid a hefty price in terms of international credibility, strain upon our treasury and the degradation of our military readiness.
Obama wants to become more involved in the world and less unilateral. Thru cooperation with other nations is our only hope for security.
McCain shaking his fist at Russia is a poor substitute for diplomacy.

JACK:
LET ME BE PERFECTLY CLEAR!
YOUR BELOVED OBAMA..... IGNORED THE TWO MAIN CELEBRATIONS AND VENERATIONS OF MARTIN LUTHER KING THIS YEAR... BECAUSE HE WAS TOO BLOODY BUSY SELLING HIMSELF!
HOWEVER, BOTH HILLARY AND BILL CLINTON,AND THE MCCAINS MANAGED TO SHOW UP AT BOTH EVENTS!
THIS IS NOW; NOT 23 YEARS AGO!

jschmidt,
"I voted with Bush 90% of the time" - John mcCain
He also voted(when he actually showed) with the GOP party 88% of the time during the current Congress.
Maverick my aunt fanny.
"I'm sorry if the Republicans had to spend a bit of money of the 6 years."
Don't apologize to me. Apologize to your children. They're the ones that will be paying off the Bush debt.

"Ryan C- The Democratic Congress has approved all the funding bills. So blame them."
jschmidt,
Funding bills for Iraq submitted since 2006 have included timetables for withdraw which Bush vetoed.
I want our troops out of Iraq, not sitting in Iraq without funding.
Kind of stark contrast to you and your buddy McCain saying the veterans cost us too much.
Support the troops is no some empty phrase you recite at Republican rallies.
It means actual support of the troops which means you fund them while they are in the field and you fund the VA to take care of them when they come home,
It means you keep your promises to them regarding healthcare and the GI BIll.
It also means you do not treat their lives as expendable by engaging in war based upon lies against a nation that was no threat to anyone.

To manage his campaign McCain has resurrected the Swift Boat team of Karl Rove, champion of lies, dirty tricks and smears. Unless and until McCain personally renounces these thugs, anything he says anywhere, anytime has to be suspect. McCain the Maverick of 2000 is dead - and is reborn as McCain the Mudslinger of 2008.

Ernie- Ryan-Lets see what happenned between 2000 and 2006- Well the US has been through an attack on 2 major cities, a war on terrorism in 2 countries, 2 hurricanes that forced evacuation of major cities, wild fires, floods in the midwest, a tech bubble bursting, a credit bubble bursting, and high oil prices. New Orleans and Louisiana were run by Democrats who didn;t evacuate the city when they should have. The tech bubble which gave Clinton record revenues, forced Bush to cut taxes which alleviated the affects of the bubble and 9/11. The subprime mess started in the 70s when the Democrats forced banks to lend to unqualified areas if the banks were to expand. The mortgages were securitized during the Clinton Administration. Last Sept Democrats decided student loan lenders were making too much money so they forced the lenders to charge less interest. When the credit crisis hit, lenders decided to back out of student loans. Democrats would admit them made a mistake so they forced the Dept of Education to back the loans. High oil prices are a result of envrinomentalists controlling drilling since 1981 when Democrats stopped offshore drilling. We have a supply shortage but the Dems continue to oppose drilling. We have 5.5% unemployment, relatively low. The dollar is rising and stock market holding its own. The economy will survive. Bush has done alright considering he has faced more crisis than any President since FDR. He has taken back the power of the Presidency which Democrats whittled away for 40 years. We have not had an attack on the US since 2001. McCain has disagreed with Bush on many occasions and he even disagreed with Reagan on sending troops to Lebanon. He didn't want to send them. I'm voting for McCain. He has the knowledge and abilities of Biden and more. So I'm sorry if the Republicans had to spend a bit of money of the 6 years.

Manfred,
The last person called a "socialist" by the right wing was Bill Clinton.
It was said that his raising taxes would destroy the economy.
Instead we enjoyed the largest non post war economic expansion ever.
If the choice is spending money on wars in Iraq or health care. I;ll take health care.
Take heart dear capitalists, a healthy workforce is a productive one! Plus it will allow our companies to more easily compete with other nations who give their citzenry health care.

A lot of things have been said about Barack Obama in the past, and I'm not sure I agree with all of them, but one thing is beyond question: the man is a socialist. There is no argument there. Everything in his life up to this point has involved the advancement of socialism. The problem is, the US cannot afford to have a socialist president at this time. Our country is 9 trillion dollars in debt and the last thing we can afford to do is elect a president that is promising trillions in new spending. We have to go in the opposite direction. We have to cut back on spending so we can start paying down the enormous debt. It is also unfair to saddle future generations with debt to pay for social welfare programs for people today. If we continue down the path to full socialism at this time by implementing Obama's socialist healthcare system, we will destroy any chance the nation has to balance the budget and pay down the debt. If we enact the oppressive tax increases that Obama is proposing, we will bring the economy to a screeching halt and people's retirement funds will plummet in value. We just can't afford any more socialism in America at this time.

Typical Republican sleezy campaign the kind we are all sick and tired of, sorry McCain but you're realy sinking your own ship with this crap.

Damn I forgot a whole set of zeros.
The Iraq war has cost us over $1,500,000,000,000.00.
That's McCain looking after taxpayer money.
Posted by: Ryan C | Aug 28, 2008 8:01:29 PM
"So who would like looking after taxpayer money, the Dems who throw it out like water or McCain who looks after it?"
Being supportive of a never ending war in Iraq that has already cost us $1,500,000,000 is looking after taxpayer money?
I'll take the Democrats "wasting" money on veterans and honoring an important civil rights leader over that.
Posted by: Ryan C | Aug 28, 2008 7:59:47 PM
jschmidt did you mean like the spending the Republicans did between 2000 and 2006, which added almost 3.5 trillion to the National Debt?????????????????????
Posted by: Ernest T Bass | Aug 28, 2008 7:58:57 PM
Remember why McCain voted against the MLK date. It was money. He wanted a holiday dropped so the government would lose money. That is the only reason and later he admitted the mistake. He did the same thing recently with the veterans bill. It was too much money the Dems were handing out with no offset. So who would like looking after taxpayer money, the Dems who throw it out like water or McCain who looks after it?

McBuCain has lowered himself to lowest levels by his ads. Here is my answer to him:
McBuCain Dreaming
I was a Vietcong POW
That gives me the RIGHT,
To be Commander-In-Chief
Bush told me in the night.
I will drill here, there and everywhere
Cheney’s Halliburton needs money,
Damn the alternate energy sources
$8.00 Gas is affordable and funny.
Oil is what Americans need,
Oil is what I will continue to demand,
I will invade Iran with American blood
And my itchy finger on the Atomic bomb.
Who needs Social Security, America?
As a solution for your old age need,
Invest in seven houses as I have done
Sub-prime mortgage is really cheap.
Republicans will do any thing to win
Lies, innuendos, fabrications & fear,
Everything goes in dirty political war
This is approved by McBuCain, my dear.

This how uniting is done- reaching out to the opponent- but Democrats wouldn't know how to do that. Obama has a divided party and will continue to divide the country.
