Obama Uses "He" Pronoun When Discussing His VP
August 19, 2008 8:18 PM
RALEIGH, NC -- Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, is almost always diligent about saying "he or she" when discussing his potential running mate.
But at a lively town hall meeting in the Tarheel State Tuesday evening, the senator -- who is expected to announce his vice presidential pick at the end of this week -- used a decidedly male pronoun.
Asked what his plan is to utilize his vice president as President Bush utilized his, Obama said, "Let me tell you first what I won’t do. I won’t hand over my energy policy to my vice president, without knowing necessarily what he’s doing."
What HE'S doing. Could be a reference to Vice President Dick Cheney -- to whom Obama is clearly alluding.
But, as I said, Obama is usually pretty careful about saying "he or she." And surely it hasn't escaped anyone's noticed that despite references to dark horse candidates such as Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, or Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, all three finalists -- Sens. Evan Bayh of Indiana and Joe Biden of Delaware, Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine -- are male.
"My vice president also will be a member of the executive branch," Obama continued, "he won't be one of these fourth branches of government where he thinks he’s above the law."
He gave other criteria which were gender-neutral.
But for those political junkies out there looking for clues -- it's quite possible Obama just dropped one.

Hey Jim:
Your choice for president finished near the bottom of his class. He wrecked many planes and got captured. Most of his military experience was spent as a POW. We salute his efforts but once he was in the Senate, he voted 99% Bush on policies when he was at the meetings, which was sparingly to say the least. He deserted his ailing wife and children without looking back. He was caught up in th Keating Five Scandal and got off with a slap on the wrist, even though he was guilty as sin. (Cindy's money helped). And if you were to put McCain in school for next forty years, he would not gain the intellect and fortitude that Senator Obama has. Senator Obama is methodical thinker and make decisons based on the facts about a situation and McCain is a warmonger who says attack first and then find out what is really going on in any given situation later.McCain is a loser and a liar and has always felt that he had something to prove to his father and grandfather who were Admirals. In that vein, McCain cannot wait to get into Presidential seat so that he can start more wars, allow more American soldiers to be killed so that he can thumb his nose at his father and grandfather, as if to say I made it. I am the POTUS so I did better than you guys did. Even though they propped him up for years and quietly kicked doors open for him that people with his I.Q. would never been abe to get through. And at the same time, Cindy's money and political contacts helped to boost him up the political ladder that would would have otherwise been out of his reach. He has no more experience in running this country than Senator Obama. He does have the experience in losing planes and finally getting shot down and being a POW. These are not the qualifications that make for a qualified President. Although Barack Obama has not personally been in the military, he is far more versed and knowlegable about the situations in foreign policy, the economy and health care etc. Senator Obama has leadership qualities and the intellect to help pull this country out of the mess that Bush and the likes of McCain has put this country in for the last 8 years. He also has the intelligence to consult with experts on situations and McCain does not listen to his advisers. I cannot believe that any sane adult who has had to live with yhe mess the Republicans put this country, could even entertain the thought of another 4-8 years of this madness. You think Bush trashed this country, just wait and see if McCain gets in, we will be in so many wars our country will look much like Iraq and the other was torn countries. So, say goodbye to everything you have taken for granted for so long, such as freedom, the America Dream and a healthy future and economy for our future generation.

Sherry, Republicans are not "torture lovers". Republicans love their Nation just like you do, I assume, and are doing what they can to help prevent another 9/11. In case you forgot, Al Qaeda murdered over 3000 people on 9/11 and have vowed to kill millions more if they get half a chance. Give President Bush a little credit for the fact that the US has not had another 9/11 and maybe the interrogation techniques used had gitmo may have had something to do with that fact. Just don't take the fact the US has not had a another 9/11 for granted. If Obama gets elected and implements the much looser security policies Obam is talking about there could wery well be another 9/11. Oh well, another 9/11 but all you Obama supporters can feel oh so much more morally superior I guess.

Food fro thought. If the Navy Brass found that John McCain wasn't fit for promotion to the Rank of Admiral, what makes him fit to be the "Commander in Chief", President?????????"
____________
If McCain had chosen to stay in the Navy, he would have BEEN an Admiral!
DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!!!

I am ready to vote for John McCain because Obama mentioned "he". He is very obvious macho for seemingly not choosing a woman as a vp.
Posted by: Lloyd | Aug 20, 2008 1:03:19 AM
But they would vote for someone who will put their sons or daughters in harms way, plus he is immoral.

Mary,
I see your point about the theoretical you propose. I just disagree that it applies to what the Republican torture lovers actually did.

Kathy, Obama voted against a bill that would save the life of a baby born alive after an abortion. That makes me sick to my stomach and I never would vote for anyone who would let a baby die. What about you?

Regarding, "In fact, I doubt Obama could pass a security review if he wanted to be a member of the FBI or other government agency," we do not really know enough to make that conclusion. But we do know McCain is immoral because he wants to continue to torture people in Guantanamo. While McCain is out there defeating evil and starting wars, it might not always be best for our country in the long run. I think maybe we should go a different direction for a while, although I share the concern that Obama is a little weak on defense. The biggest concern is that he might overreact to something due to political concerns. But Obama is pretty smart, and I think in the end he will keep us safer than the "war is all I know" guy (McCain).

McCain cheated on his first wife and left her and the kids for a woman 25 years younger than him, he makes me sick.
Posted by: Kathy | Aug 20, 2008 12:41:58 AM
Sherry,
The people in Guantanamo are not being "tortured". What I would ask you, is if your child's life was at sake and the only way to get the information necessary to save your child's life was via the interrogation methods used at Gitmo, what would you do? I suppose in your case you would let your child die so you could feel morally superior.

Harry...you said it....what boggles my mind is how could anyone have got this far along, as Obama has. If he were white, with all the same background would he be where he is today? Serious question...someone give me an answer.

Churchill,
Here is your answer:
Obama is for the redistribution of wealth via higher taxes because he thinks that is the "fair" thing to do, not because it will raise revenue.
Obama wants to spend a trillion dollars on government welfare programs that will force people to do what he tells them to do before they see a penny of the money Obama has confiscated from the private sector.
The wealth redistribution plan that takes money from the private sector will destroy the private sector economy and make one of the most economically rich nations in the history of the world into a third world Nation.
Obama is against drilling for our own oil here, against building new refineries, against nuclear power plants In Obama/s own words "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.
"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.
Obama will weaken our military in very dangerous times, Obama: "First, I'm the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president, I will end it.
Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending. I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. I will not weaponize space. I will slow our development of future combat systems...and I will institute an independent Defense Priorities Board to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.
Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal I will not develop new nuclear weapons...I will seek a global ban on the development of fissile material...and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off of hair-trigger alert...and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals."
Obama has no experience that would qualify him to be President
Obama's long time friends and associates include crooks, unrepentant domestic terrorists and anti-Americans. In fact, I doubt Obama could pass a security review if he wanted to be a member of the FBI or other government agency.
The above is just a partial list of very real concerns with an Obama Pesidency. What is amazing to me is that anyone with any common sense would even think of voting for Obama.

McCain voted for the continuation of the torture in Guantanamo. I do not think anyone there had a nuke. So if you support McCain, you support torture of people who do not seriously threaten the U.S. Therefore, you yourself are a torture enabler. How proud you must be. McCain's new slogan: "Torture First."

Debra-That explains a lot. I get my info. from non-partisan, numerous reputable sources and do a great deal of legislative research. You get your information from sitcom disguised as a news organization. Good luck to you.

Jennifer...I just got thru watching a one hour bio on McCain on FOX (saw Obama's last night) and you won't be able to test me on McCain's patriotism...sorry. I'm willing to bet many more Americans with me on this one. McCan has only SERVED THIS COUNTRY FOR OVER 50 YEARS....Nobama can't compete in the service department. Now self-service....is another story.
Posted by: Debra | Aug 20, 2008 12:18:58 AM
Of course, Obama used the he pronoun because in both quotes about some one creating a fourth branch of government and running the energy policy, he was clearly referring to Cheney.
Posted by: kat | Aug 20, 2008 12:18:14 AM
Obama doesn't scare me so much....only if he become POTUS! I'd like him to go back to the Senate and put in more time than 143 days.
Posted by: Debra | Aug 20, 2008 12:13:50 AM
sherry,
McCain is on record against torture, which I disagree with. I say, if a nuke is about to hit New York it would be immoral to let millions of people die because you think torture is wrong.
Posted by: mary | Aug 20, 2008 12:09:37 AM
All these jaundiced and opinionated commentators.
What is at about Obama that scares you so much? This man has a wife and two lovely daughters. He has family that he loves too. Why these nonsensical fear mongering about his patriotism?
