Oh, That Joe! (Number 4 in a Series) -- Biden on Difference Between Him and Palin: "She's Good Looking"
August 31, 2008 2:52 PM
In his introduction of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., just now on the rooftop of the Toldeo Public Library, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., commented on the pulchritude of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Sen. John McCain's newly-named running mate.
Palin was once a contestant in the Miss Alaska contest, and no less an authority than Rush Limbaugh has called her a "babe," though of course Gov. Palin is a governor and former mayor and mother and I'll bet this is the last time Biden comments about her looks.
"From our perspective the whole deal is how does the government help you get back up without getting in the way?" Biden asked. "There's a gigantic - gigantic -- difference between John McCain and Barack Obama, and between me and I suspect my vice presidential opponent. And that is that - "
The crowd laughed.
"Well there's obvious differences," Biden said, beginning to ham it up. "She's good looking," he said, laughing. "You know there's obvious differences. But there's a whole lot -- "
A woman shouted: "you're gorgeous!" to Biden.
"Where's that person?" Biden asked. "Who said that? Who said that? Would you say that again for my wife?"
"You're gorgeous!" the woman yelled.
"Oh, I tell you what, would you make sure Jill hears that?" Biden joked. "You know what I mean? I just want to make sure she hears that. I haven't heard that in a long, long, long time. And hanging out with this lean, young-looking guy is making me feel pretty old, you know what I mean?"
Biden continued his riff. "I thought I was in pretty good shape til I hung out with this guy, you know what I mean?"
"Joe's looking good," said Obama.
"Yeah, I'm looking good alright, I tell you what," Biden said. "But look, folks, let me end with, on a serious note here. On a serious note -- I was a pretty good football player, man," he said to Obama "We oughta talk a little bit after this. Okay? --But look, on a very serious note ..."
He then continued with his very serious note.

As a woman I see no problem at all about any of the comments made. Sarah Palin is pretty. I think SarahPalin would consider Joe Biden's comments a compliment. Joe Biden then just joked when some woman said he was gorgeous.
I have been researching available information on Sarah Palin from Alaska. Her "Troopergate Problem" is something that is a little alarming to me. If her brother in-law is a dangerous man - I see problems with how she advised her family and how she handled herself per shown documents. Documents(agency/governmental were made available for public. Documents were simplistic and I saw no evidence of good supportive substantiated witnesses for most of claims. If this guy is a jerk - he should have been punished. I did not see educated application of sound legal knowledge distributed. Claims made must have sound legal substantiation. Sarah made claims against Officer Wooten that were not backed by sound legal witnessed proof, etc. Sarah Palin is claimed to be qualified. She is not. Unfortunately she did not properly advise or help herself, her sister, or her family to protect them from Officer Wooten if he is a danger. This is 2008 and a knowledgeable capable person has many ways to catch and address issues of a dangerous man. Where are the witnesses? Where are videos? Where are taped audios?? I was so disappointed as agency/governmental documents made it appear all of this was just a family squabble that had gotten out of control. I have some questions - what is Officer Wooten is dangerous?? He should be taken care of quickly. He has no business being an officer of law enforcement. Sarah Palin did not assist or help legally appropriately or effectively. But good news is - FBI will now be involved. I found I am also disturbed she had no support of a bill that would enforce and limit pollution drainage from (???) mine flowing into into salmon streams. This shocks me immensely since we all know of the health safety to all people exposed to toxic/chemical pollution runoff by corporate industries. This is 2008 and we have all seen the cancers, watched resident people exposed die, etc from this disregard to have good safety measures in place. We have witnessed the class action lawsuits that had to be filed and they won. We have seen the corporate cover-ups and the horrible results suffered by people. I heard today her daughter is pregnant. This is a personal family issue and I feel this is a private issue. Her children have no place in politics. I found a couple of other issue stances I am alarmed about, but won't get into. I have not completed my research on Sarah Palin yet. I will be doing more. Lastly I was proud a woman had been put on the ticket. I think she is feisty, but totally inexperienced. Presently I don't feel she is ready.

Amazing that the Democrats argue that the Republicans are pandering. They offer a choice between an ultra-liberal left wing woman and an ultra-liberal left wing black. Neither candidate has any appreciable experience. Now, who is pandering?
What if McCain had chosen a black man or woman as a running mate? He chooses a woman based upon her principles and beliefs - not good enough because she hasn't got experience? Palin is a governor - the Chief executive of a State. Obama is a fledgling junior Senator . . . Yet Obama is the second coming, and Palin is pandering?
Please.
The Democrats cry "Change!" "Change!" "Change!" Change to what? We dunno, but we love change.
Let's not forget Congress has a dem majority. May we please CHANGE THAT?

Values08:So when Rush Limbugh called her a babe, that was not sexist? When Joe Biden said his wife was drop dead gorgeous, that was sexist?
Well you certainly have no values to share here.
Posted by: Churchill | Sep 1, 2008 5:11:50 PM
This is the epitome of sexism; there is no reason he should have commented on her looks!! In commenting on her looks he has attempted to minimize her accomplishments and insuinate that she shouldn't be taken seriously.

"So it's now sexist to acknowledge another woman as good looking??? And it's sexist to even critique a woman's record?
Just let us know when you're ready to compete with men like equals and adults without demanding a free pass, OK?"
Oh PLEASE! How many times has the media responded that attack ads against Obama, although based in FACT, are racist? Despite the fact there was zero racial element to the critique. Why do they do this? Because he is a mulatto (half-black) and ANY attack ad, regardless of truthfulness, has to be motivated by the GOP's hatred towards blacks (or 1/2 blacks in Obama's case). Right?

Senator Biden has more Terms in the
Senate than Obama has YEARS. Just a fact.
Of the four, pres. & V.P. candidates Gov. Palin has more executive experience.
How old was JFK when he was elected pres.? How about Teddy R?
In her announcement speech, Phalin came across (to me) as running for RIGHT (AS IN--FOR THE PEOPLE)vs the other three candidates that seem to look for whatever it takes to get the POWER. Hope she sticks to her guns--maybe some
will rub off on the next president-whomever.
As for the facts: Oprah has more executive experience than all four, she is not a Harvard good ole BOY, she is blacker than Obama (he was raised white) &, if not for her, Obama would be watching from the sidelines,
Obama's only claim to fame is his paternal ancestory. Now, does that mean Oprah is a racist, or has she finally made a mistake.
The pundits really get excited about fluff, and seem to be interested in Obama's run vs the PEOPLE'S NEEDS. Where is Edward R. Morrow when you need him--with all the other JOURNALIST I guess.
Billy Bob, Florida where we can once again vote.....for the MAN.
P.S. Just can't get over Obama revising one of Kerry's lines...I first voted against FL & MIch. votes counting before I voted for them to count..What a GUY!

Which ticket looks more presidential to you?
The one with good judgment and foresight coupled with experience, or the one with a man who won't admit being wrong. McCain has 26 years of experience and is still wrong on almost all issues that matter!
("I was a P.O.W., thus I can't be wrong") coupled with Plain. Oh yeah, I want a woman like this with the codes to our nukes a heart beat away (not)!
Our once great country is in ruins because we don’t have a critical, analytical, methodical thinker at the helm. Face it-Obama is the only choice.

The Iraq war is coming to a
close. That's good.
Thanks to BO for standing firm
against the continuation of this
war and for vigorously campaigning
for a timetable for troop
withdrawal.
Our next mission is energy
independence. Goodbye to Arab
oil in ten years.
We need BO in the White House
to make it happen.
McCain will halt troop
withdrawal, get us into new wars
in Georgia, Ukraine and
other places, make us even more
dependent on Middle East oil
and wreck the economy.

Obama: "I will work for the equal treatment of women"--translatation (what can I say now to woo the Clinton supporters over now that I've chosen Biden--an old white Washington entrenched, Iraq-war supporting VP and my co-agent of "change" these fools need to believe in).
McCain: "Palin is exactly what this party and country needs."
Palin: "we are not done, we will break through the glass ceiling."
Obama lost the election when he put his ego above the best interest of his party and country by passing over the more qualfied female candidate for VP and choosing Biden. That is not the kind of change that I can believe in because it reinforces unequal, unfair treatment of women. As a lifelong Democrat, I cannot support that sexist conduct or the Obama/Biden ticket. Obama will learn that you cannot just spit on women and then turn around and expect them to support your cause.
Go McCain/Palin!

The sun will shine in like a rainbow on the RNC McCain/Palin, I trust McCain/Palins words more than Obama.
Obama needed some temple to appease all.
McCain/Palin can deliver the truth what they can do for all Americans, unity for all Americans
and Jesus is Truth he is coming soon I believe that.

We need smart, tough, hardnosed
people who can move mountains
if necessary to solve difficult
problems like putting an end
oil imports from the Middle East.
We are not looking for runway
models and beauty queens.

Ha Ha == I just cannot stop laughing long enough to iron his shirt -- at these men like Biden who don't get it and will never get it -- not only regarding sexism, but racism too. Lest we forget -- "He's a black man who is intelligent.....and clean.....", Joe Biden. HA HA HA

I will never vote for a woman, they don't belong in the white house!
Posted by: Mark | Sep 1, 2008 9:52:36 AM
Why do you you think that the Obama campaign backed away FAST with the experience issue re Gov. Palin? Obama has ZERO executive experience, AND OBAMA IS ON TOP OF THE DEM TICKET - A LITTLE EMBARRASSING, DON"T YOU THINK??

Good old Joe can't seem to shake his chronic foot in mouth ailment. Wonder if he'll be checking her out during the debate. Then there's the Great Leader, the middle aged lawyer who gets geekier and cornier every day: his own presidential seal, doing the Rick Astley dance on Ellen, texting his VP announcement (yeah you are so with it), fist bumps and now Caesar's palace temple settings.

This was supposed to be a slam dunk year for the dems. Why do they always, always, always pick a loser? This will be three times in a row they've lost, when will they learn and pick an actual middle of the road democrat - they always have to go for a liberal one, in this case THE VERY most liberal one according to his voting record.

Bottom line, Obama is frightened, very frightened of Palin. These comments are going to be strategically made to TRY to diminish Palin as a strong politcial opponent. It would maybe have worked had we all not seen in play out in the first act with Clinton. No one is going to buy it, let alone put up with it this time around. CNN's first poll after the DNC convention, Obama 49%, McCain 48%. They aren't even calling it a bounce. No bounce when they annonced Biden, no bounce after the convention. Ouch, this has to hurt.

When George Bush leaves the White House, all wars will cease. Despots the world over will lay down their weapons and they will cast aside their ill wills against their former adversaries - including us, of course.
All poverty will begin roll back with the tides of the oceans. Every mouth will have plentiful manna and all swollen bellies will recede.
We can all turn in our guns and throw out our home and business security systems. We won't need them any longer. Peace will have arrived. We will no longer need protections against criminals, because with the departure of George, criminals will revert to law abiding citizens.
Peace will break out all over the world and we can all link hands and together sing "Kumbayah."
Yes, the departure of George Bush as President of the United States will act as a mighty dagger into the heart of all evil in this world.
If only we could have had Al Gore or John Kerry. Just think: We could have all been living in Utopia even sooner.

Sarah Palin certainly worked her way up the conservative ladder, same way as one of the good old boys. She becomes mayor, fires the Library Director and the Police chief immediately, because they didn't support her campaign for mayor. Same thing with the Public Safety Commissioner as governor.
