Sen. Collins on Edwards: 'Dontcha Think He Is The Father of The Child?'

August 14, 2008 9:26 AM

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, talking with a local Portland radio station -- the Q Morning Show -- dishes about the scandal involving her former colleague, former Sen. John Edwards, D-NC.

"Unbelievable," said Collins. "He presented himself as this family man who was devoted to his ill wife, his little children, his older daughter, so the hypocrisy of it. I try not to judge people's personal lives, because you never know what's going on. but in this case he so presented himself as someone who he was not. Plus when your wife's going through cancer! I mean, gee!"

Collins continued to dish, asking the morning show hosts, "dontcha think he is the father of the child? Would he be sneaking into the hotel in the middle of the night to see a child who's not his? I don't think so!"

Watch Collins' remarks HERE.

The junior senator is up for reelection this year in Maine, increasingly a blue state.

We are in No postion to judge. Adultry is just 1 on many sins.

Let he(or she) who is without sin, cast the first(verbal)stone This is first, between him and his God, then him and his wife and family, the child and it's mother. Not anyone else! We must forgive, in order to be forgiven.

Don't be so mean to the guy - he was just dropping off a $400 binkie!

There's one other possible reason for the sneak that no one seems to mention. If you're a politician who's hiding an affair, when the person who can tell all says she wants to see you, you go. You may not want to but she's got you over a barrel, deservedly so, and you go!

He be that baby's daddy. Does anyone find it disgusting that he can only say that he is not the baby's daddy becaues of "timing" instead of saying that he used protection. He better be lucky that the end of his career and a baby is all that happened.

The best thing that could be done now is to give the Edwards family peace. What is done is done. Now, let the issue die down. He has already admitted his sinfulness, what more do you want? If his wife who had been terribly hurt has found it in her heart to forgive him, why don't you just leave them at peace. Digging the issue up over and over again will not solve anything. If at all, it only makes matters worse.

republicans, better shup up on this case because this scandal will remind people of John Maccain's own story...betraying sick wife to go for a young woman.

Jenny is absolutely correct

McCain is so quiet on this one
Hope the question comes up at the values forum

It scares me when I read posts that say
"It's just the times we live in". That's not an excuse or acceptable.
Adultry is a slap in the face to God, to the marriage vows, to the spouse and to the children and to minimize it by saying "it's just the times we live in" is disgraceful. The kid is his and should go away and never been seen again - it was nothing but an ambulance chaser lawyer - now he added bimbo chaser to his resume.

Yeah, A Democrat will cheat on his cancer ridden wife, A Ruepblican will serve them divorce papers while in the hospital recieieving treatments or better yet just leave them for Little Cindy Lou Bigbucks. Yes Mr Gingrich and Mr McCain I am talking about you. The Republicans Party also gave us that paragon of virtue Richard Nixon as well. So get off you religious right fueled high horses and join the rest of the world.

I don't know whether the childis his or not but if I had to guess I would say yes.

His ailing wife would appreciate it GREATLY. She has CANCER. Let this issue go. At least give Elizabeth the respect by letting this go.

Does this infidelity suprise any of us. It is just the times we live in.

You know what is really news. Obama is the father of a loving family with no infidelity problems. NOW THAT IS NEWS. but i know the NEGATIVE MSM will yawns at stuff like that.

non-story

let this political has-been deal with his infidelities in private.

That's our Susan!

Isn't it kind of tacky to sneak into a hotel room and have sex with someone in the presence of a child? I don't think so. He was there to see his daughter. Poor kid. According to NY Post, he said he broke his confession to his wife in "installments." How do you tell the truth in installments? Honey, I'm done with part I for now, and part II will continue at this time next month???

Good riddens to the lying Edwards. Have a happy life, and please take that teflon Obama with you.

NO Obama.
