Texas GOP Hits Obama for Ignoring Impoverished Half-Brother

August 25, 2008 12:00 AM

In a web video, the Republican Party of Texas hits back Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., on the "housing" issue in a web video that attacks the Democrat because his half-brother George lives in a shack outside Nairobi, Kenya.

"Barack Obama has viciously attacked John McCain and his family for being successful and living the American dream," says the ad's narrator.

"This even after McCain has given so much for his country…" (images of McCain as a prisoner of war)

"...Obama claims he's looking after our families in an economic downturn…" (images of Obama in Hawaii body surfing, playing golf)

"…but ask yourself this: If Obama cares so much about your family why doesn't he doesn't take care of his own family first. Barack Obama lives in this house…" (image of Obama's house)

"…wants to live in this one…" (image of White House)

"…while his own brother lives in this one." (image of Obama's half brother George.)

I believe Obama has met his half-brother -- one of eight half-siblings Obama has scattered throughout the globe -- once.

Isn’t this kind of a weird attack for the Texas GOP to launch given the recent revelation of Cindy McCain's "angry" and estranged half-sister?

Why haven't they helped? Because the brother doesn't want the help.

sheesh you righties have to make stuff up to get attention. Oh how the mighty have fallen...

If an ad is coming from the mccain camp and his supporters, you can pretty much count on it being hooey. That's all they have left. They can't run on the issues, so like jr. high students they make things up. Too bad those 28%ers are still gullible enough to fall for it.

McCain and his mother sued Carol McCain, his first wife, to return gifts.

That's Republican family values for you: hit them when their down.

Debra, we already know how Republicans handle charity, but I'm glad you brought it up

For Repubs, charity money is tax deductable. Charity money is funneled into their own Charity Funds, and then that money is used to lavish their own family or friends with contracts.

Two quick examples: Barbara Bush's Katrina donations ended up in her son's Neil Bush cashbooks.
Cindy McCain's ‘Charity Fund’ donated money to her son's Private School.

The Texas GOP nor any other, GOP source has any ground to stand on about their candidate and his extendted family being a role model. His wife Cindy Hensley McCain has two sisters she and yet she claims to be an only child. After their father's death Cindy who inherted the 99.9 % of h the estate cut off her siblings and continues to thei day to claim to be an only child.

Perhaps the DNC should run an ad that explains how McCain dumped his wife for a multi-millionaire heiress. Talk about taking care of your family.

All the while John McCain does nothing to have his wife mend fences in her family. Cindy claims to be an only child when she knows full well she has two sisters. One from her fathers first marriage and one from her mothers first marriage.

Well ..you know...it's the GOP...so...

A load of interesting stuff about John McCain from brother Joe.

1. It shows John's Oedipus Complex with Cindy mirroring the role his mother had when he was a boy.

2. Shows his family was Navy royalty with both father and grandfather being admirals.

3. Shows how out of touch the McCains are with average people -- Mom was managing the oil leases [my mom did that too LOL!] and John knows how Americans are because he serves on a committee.

4. Finally, brains don't flow on the male side as dad and grandpa finished near the bottom of their classes along with John.

“The person who took care of all the business was my mother,” he said. “My father had no idea about the family business, what oil leases he owned in Oklahoma.”

Joe McCain, who makes his home in Washington’s Northern Virginia suburbs, chuckled when recalling that “one time, [John McCain's mother] bought a house to remodel” in Southeast Washington while “[dad] was at sea.”

John McCain’s years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam and as chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee also help him “emphasize with the American people” on pocketbook issues, Joe McCain said.

John McCain was a less-than-stellar student who graduated fifth from the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy.

“By the way, that's a McCain tradition,” he said. “My father and grandfather, both four-star admirals, and they graduated in the bottom fourth of their class, too."

Oh and by the way, have any of those Texas Republicans asked Sen. Obama's brother how he feels about having his image used to criticize his brother? Is there a lawyer in the house?

Well foted, according to some people he is. Go figure.

This is stupid and smacks of total desperation! Why would Barrack Obama be at all responsible for a half brother that he probably doesn't know at all. His father had multiple children by mutilple women! Is Sen. Obama responsible for all of them?

debra, so what. Your post offers nothing.

Republicans never have to look at themselves. If that were the case McCain would have to sit back and shut up. They are filled with hypocrisy; I mean why keep bringing up houses and family.
Arrogant America who call it a hut and poverty; in case you haven't noticed because your stupid when it comes to the rest of the world. That is how people live, he's wealthy for having his house even if it doesn't meet the high standards of American living. For Republicans McCain & Romney - who own 12 houses between them; geez they could afford to give up one of theirs faster than Obama.

Obama's biggest charity was Trinity Church. They did a comparison this morning on either C-Span or a news channel and Dems alwasy give less than Reps.....he has exact numbers on
C-Span2....and the differnce was appaling. Kennedy, FDR, and Obama penny pinchers compared to Reagan and McCain....for the party that wants to help so many by raising your taxes, they ought to dig into their own pockets.
I bet Hillary would have helped her own flesh and blood out.....although it's not just this brother,,,he has 7 other siblings from his dad's 3 other wives.

In kenya just like many developing countries, many youngsters are given a chance to change their lives, free highschool education and college. If someone chooses to live their lives otherwise, you cannot blame others!

His half brother can go back in the town where they come from and live in a decent house, he chose to live in the capital city where it's expensive and tough if you don't have a decent job.

Talking heads are the most dangerous. Halperin sounded like a babbling idiot. Same for Cokie Roberts.
Best thing to do is ignore them. Turn off your tv! This concerted effort, major push to derail Obama's candidacy will not succeed.

The Republican ad on George Obama, Sen Obama's half-brother is nothing more than Imperialist trash. George Obama lives in a 3rd world country where he has a home, not a "shack". To refer to his home in Kenya as a "shack" is the the high-handed eyes of an arrogant American. George Obama & Sen Obama have other brothers and sisters, a sister that lives in Europe, a brother that is a PH.D.--why didn't the Republicans look them up and feature them?

Posted by: Jennifer | Aug 25, 2008 12:45:40 PM

McCain opened the door when he said.."uhhh...I'll have to ask my staff". His words, not Obama's.
Obama just repeated what he said!
Obama never attacked McCain's family. Cindy McCain kept saying she was an only child. Her nephew called the press and said...Hey my mother is her half sister! He was tired of the McCain saying pretty much his mother didn't exist. And now there are Two sisters!!!
Cindy and John McCain put on their website that their daughter Bridgett was brought here b/c mother theresa begged cindy to bring her back to the US for medical care. Not true....none of it. She never spoke to mother theresa on that trip! The PRESS investigated that story. They have since taken it off the McCain official website! And Obama not his campaign has ever commented on it!!
So, Obama has a brother, he never knew, that was raised in a different country.

Will campaigns forever be about personal sniping? Are these guys the best people on earth? Obviously not. Remark about Obama is about himself only? What about Sen. McKean? he doesn't have ambition, he's about helping whom?

This personal back and forth BS sounds like the comedian Rush Limbaugh.
