The "Electable" Candidate Admits Affair
August 08, 2008 2:57 PM
Sen. John Edwards, D-NC, tells ABC News' Bob Woodruff that he did indeed have an affair with novice film-maker Rielle Hunter.
In an interview to air tonight on Nightline, Edwards -- who continually argued to voters that he had greater electability than did Sens.. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, and Barack Obama, D-Illinois -- denies, however, that he is the father of Hunter's baby daughter.
We'd always heard that Clinton remained in the race so long because she'd heard a bombshell would drop on her rival, Obama.
So she's partially vindicated -- she just had the wrong rival.

Belle Star,
So Obama is responsible for the action of EVERY man he ever met?
You are obviously a very angry woman. Get a job, get some insurance and get some help. All that anger is eating you up inside and it's not pretty to watch.
Your victim-pity sprial is getting old/

Remember FDR and JFK, kiddies.
On the other hand, The CHANGEling's supposed LACK of an amorous past is quite peculiar.

And we care about this because...

I agree with you 100%, Mary Anne. My heart goes out to Elizabeth and her Family, but Edwards is a weasel and I am glad he got outed. Kudos to The Enquirer for following up on this story - the rest of the Obama media just tried to bury it. The Obama-clan motto - Do as I say, not as I do! Wonder how long it will take B0 to throw Edwards under the bus! Obama sure attracts hypocrites!

He says the kids not his....well, he said he didn't have the affair either.
Hmmmmm. Guess we know why Edwards wasn't interested in the VP slot.

The one who gets nailed in this story is not really Edwards, is the MSM. The MSM has already been exposed for their overly bias for Obama. Now the Edwards story only reinforces people's perception that the MSM is in tank with liberals.
Obama will also be damaged because fewer people will just take the MSM's glowing reports about him without suspecting that there might be something not so good unreported. So far Obama has mainly relied on the media hype to stay in the lead. We will see how much that will change once the MSM totally loses its credibility.
Right now there are several rumors being distributed online or in small newspaper: 1. Obama's forged birth certificate, 2. Obama's illegal campaign contribution from people in Gaza. 3. the whitey tape. I wonder if they will turn out to be true, who will break the news, and who will the public turn to for information.

Maury Povich should do a show on this. Have the woman, John Edwards, and Andrew Young on, do a DNA test, and do one of those "John Edwards You ARE the father" statements.

Unfortunate that it's extramarital and worse that it affects a fine person like Elizabeth Edwards who happens to be ill again. However, for those who are not members of the Edwards' immediate family circle, maybe it would be prudent to instead focus our points of light to 1) get a grip on pressing real national priorities and challenges (wars, economy, environment, education, terrorism, etc.) instead of being distracted by boogeymen or straw issues and 2) admit that the details of consensual sex - whether Republicans, Democrats, hetero or homo - for public officials cannot compare in importance to competence and a willingness to speak and act civilly against a variety of inventive scams and rationalizations imposed on the general public by those with enough privilege and power to pull it off.
This Jerry Springer audience segment of the population seems unable to meter their outrage in any proportion to the magnitude of the inciting topic, so a personal sexual dalliance by a public figure they dislike for other reasons can generate more venom than famine, genocide, the murder of a child, environmental collapses, or anything from a menu of recent institutional violations of our former Constitutional rights.
No surprise that those most resistant to recognizing this fact are also so very susceptible to having their dogma, self-righteousness and finances exploited by the very same finger-shaking, propaganda-spewing, symbol-flaunting vitriolic right wingers whom they so rabidly defend . . . with the net result being that the true-believers' habitual agitated dust-kicking over always new always irrelevant diversions only serves to provide fresh smokescreen for yet more exploitation or ordinary citizens, including themselves.

And all the attacks on them over the John Edwards story particuarily from Edwards himself now look ridiculous. The main stream media will perhaps not laugh at stories such as this when they are reported in the Enquirer and will actually do some investigating of these stories themselves.

Another reason why women should be running things. Men can't keep their pants on.

If the affair ended a long time ago, and then kid is not his, what the hell was he doing in her hotel room in the middle of the night just a few weeks ago?

watching: LOL ya, I don't think McCain is smart enough to not touch it. He will run some stupid ad that will back fire on him, again....

I Doubt McCain will touch this with a 10 foot pole ;)

Fox news covered this about 2 weeks ago but ABC, MSNBC, NBC AND CBS didn't report.

It is so nice to sit back and see poetic justice served to all the backstabbers who abandoned Hillary Clinton during her campaign. Edwards is one and I hope that many more are to follow, especially those two gasbags, Kennedy and Kerry. I'd love to see them crumble! And to think I voted for Kerry and used to respect Ted kennedy! I am registering Republican and will only vote Democratic if a woman candidate runs who I believe in. I am so done with the Democrats!

"she just had the wrong rival."
Stay tuned.

I am thrilled that John Edwards had to come out and admit he had an affair. I knew his squeaky clean image was hiding something after he stabbed Hillary Clinton in the back and jumped over to Obama's camp! I just hope that something happens to each and every one of those backstabbing liars who abandoned Hillary Clinton. It made my day!!!! And to think I would have voted for him if Hillary had not been running! What a hypocrite all the way around!

Boy this is really similar to when McCain had an affair with Cindy after his current wife had an accident and was in a wheelchair.

my real concern is why was the msm was 'sitting on this like a hen' why the cover-up?
again my prayers go out to the edwards family.
