U.S. Secret Service on Way to Biden's House; Kaine and Bayh Told Nope on Veep
August 22, 2008 10:50 PM
The United States Secret Service has dispatched a protective detail to assume the immediate protection of Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., a source tells ABC News, indicating in all likelihood that Biden has been officially notified that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, has selected him to be his running mate.
Sources also tell ABC News that two others said to be finalists for the position of Obama's running mate -- Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., and Virginia Gov Tim Kaine -- have been told they have not been selected for the vice presidential slot.
Kaine flew to Denver earlier today, is in Denver tonight and has no plans to leave in the next 24 hours. Bayh is at his Washington, DC, home with his family.
Biden was last seen minutes ago at his Wilmington estate where his extended brood is gathering.
The Obama campaign would not comment, but Obama mentioned Biden twice in speeches on the trail this week, both times heralding his legislative leadersip in East Asia.
At the VFW convention in Orlando, Florida, on Tuesday, Obama said, "we must help Georgia rebuild that which has been destroyed. That is why I’m proud to join my friend, Senator Joe Biden, in calling for an additional $1 billion in reconstruction assistance for the people of Georgia."
And in Chesapeake, Virginia, Friday night, Obama heralded Biden's efforts to provide economic assistance to Afghanistan.
"I joined with people like Joe Biden to increase a billion dollars of investment," he said.

Man, I hear a lot of nervous rhetoric on here today. What a great ticket...Change and experience! These are two of the most intelligent people to ever grace Washington. Finally, the re-emergence of intelligence and integrity to the Whitehouse. Meet me at the inauguration.

Obama really slammed Hillary by the timing of this release.
Did anyone else notice that the info on the VP pick was released at 3:00 a.m.?
Hillary didn't get that 3:00 a.m. call.

All Republicans have to say to Biden when he attacks McCain is:
"Senator Biden, didn't you try to push a Kerry/McCain ticket in 2004?"
Why yes. Yes he did. hehehe

No wonder they call Biden a plagiarist.
He was caught at it twice!!!

I'll bet John McCain had said "No thank you Mr Keating I don't want your money".

Gee... Obama picks the man who in the ABC debate says "Obama is not ready to be president."
Love it..Biden an attack dog? Because Obama is soft so he needs someone who can actually man-up?
This is a gift to McCain, Thank you Obama for showing poor judgement yet again.
From a Pa. gun clinger who will switch over to McCain.

Oh, come on HACIENDA, you doubt Obama's judgment and competence? You think Hillary is more competent and has better judgment? If that is true, why is she in big debt now? Doesn't that tell you she has poor judgment and is not as competent as you thought her to be? And if your, her supporters, do love her and support her that much, why don't her 18 million supporters help her pay her debt? If each of you will give her a dollar, she will be able to settle her debt.

Biden, on a post-debate appearance on MSNBC, October 30, 2007: “The only guy on the other side who’s qualified is John McCain.”
Biden appearing on The Daily Show, August 2, 2005: “John McCain is a personal friend, a great friend, and I would be honored to run with or against John McCain, because I think the country would be better off, be well off no matter who...”
Let the landslide begin.

ryan j - "nice pick - byebye mccain"? Surely you're not serious. As a DC insider, Biden totally inverts Obama's "Hope and Change" message.
keith - Why do you overlook Obama's gaffes and sieze upon McCain's? McCain no more believes that Afghanistan borders Iraq than Obama believes there are 57 states. They both make gaffes occasionally.
I think the public is realizing how empty Obama's suit and dreams are. The election will not even be that close. The Dems found a way to blow another presidential election. Nice work, nutroots!

Great pick..solid ticket..bye bye mccain

You guys forget that Biden told everyone that the presidency is no learnon the job type of thing. Meaning that Barack Hussein Obama does not have any experience...
Obama just pissed off even more Hillary supporters by not even considering her...LOL good job dumbo!
Can you say Hillary in 2012?

I like it when everyone just gets along and agrees about everything. These comments are upsetting to my naturally calm and serene state of being. Why can't everyone here just agree? What is wrong?

A drama worth nothing - It's been Joe all the time, why did Obama turn up so much heat? This is indeed an ego-centric man -- he wants all the light on him by faking the drama, yet, the reflection is not that good. The more Obama does this, the less respect I have for him.
