Biden Camp Calls Israeli Army Radio Report a 'Lie'

September 01, 2008 2:59 PM

The respected Israeli newspaper Ha'artez today repeated an Israeli Army Radio report that Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, told "senior Israeli officials behind closed doors that the Jewish state will have to reconcile itself to a nuclear Iran."

"Israel will have to reconcile itself with the nuclearization of Iran," Army Radio said that Biden told the unnamed officials. "It's doubtful if the economic sanctions will be effective, and I am against opening an additional military and diplomatic front."

Biden spox David Wade said the unsourced report is simply false.

"This is a lie peddled by  partisan opponents of Senators Obama and Biden," said Wade, "and we will not tolerate anyone questioning Senator Biden’s 35-year record of standing up for the security of Israel.  Joe Biden’s first trip as a Senator was to Israel, he has worked with every Israeli leader from Golda Meir to Prime Minister Olmert, and he takes a back seat to no one when it comes to protecting the relationship between Israel and the US."

Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is a long-standing supporter of Israel and considered a key pro-Israel voice in the Senate by pro-Israel organizations.

"Senator Biden has consistently stated – publicly and privately --  that a nuclear Iran would pose a grave threat to Israel and the United States and that we must prevent a nuclear Iran," Wade said.

Israeli Army Radio also said that Biden told Israeli officials that he opposed "opening a additional military and diplomatic front." Army Radio said Israeli officials expressed "amazement" over the remarks.

The Obama-Biden campaign pointed out that just a few weeks ago, at a July 9 Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, Biden said that "Iran's acquisition of a nuclear weapon would dramatically destabilize an already unstable region and probably fuel a nuclear arms race in the region. It is profoundly in our interest to prevent that from happening.”

On the American cable TV channel Shalom TV last year, Biden said, "I am a Zionist. You don't have to be a Jew to be a Zionist." He addded that "Israel is the single greatest strength that America has in the Middle East."

Anyone who thinks the Left is supportive of Israel has been asleep since 1967.

Buchanan is Catholic. He was educated when some nuns taught blood libel about the Jews. Palin is not in his "religious" camp.

Lieberman will support McCain/Palin tonight on national TV.

Buchanan and Rev Wright are the two who are in lockstep re. Israel.

This is for "Concerned in OH": While in Juneau, Sarah Palin attends Juneau Christian Center, an Assembly of God Pentecostal Church. The pastor is Mike Rose, who is connected to the "Third Wave Movement", a religious belief that is sweeping through Pentecostal churches and the spiritual basis for Joel's Army, "God's Avenging Army", which believes the whole world, including America, should be governed by ultraconservative Christians with no democracy. Is she a stealth candidate representing a fundamentalist takeover of the US? Do you still feel that her religion couldn't possibly be worse than Rev. Wright? If so, get ready to go shopping for burkas! They'll be needed in the Stone Age she'd like to take us back to.

The date was 1 September 2008. Not everyone uses the month/day/year format the US uses.

==The US did not go to war because it disliked Germany, or thought Germany was an imminent threat.

Germany declared war on the US. Because it was allied with Japan, and the US declared war on Japan. (Hint: Japan attacked the US first. It was called Pearl Harbor)==

And, while Germany didn't attack us, we attacked Germany.

==The USS Stark??!!
Are you kidding me?
You're using an attack from 1987 as justification for our invasion in 2003?
A SIXTEEN year time lag.==

so, quit saying that Iraq never attacked America.

==Iraq didn't attack the Stark.==

Yes, it did, with an Exocet missile.

I just hope that which ever wins this election puts some Power back into the U.S. when we speak. Current Goverment has taken that away from us when we deal with other countries. Israel,Iran,Russia, etc...don't see us as the country that will crush you if you don't chill out.
NOw how can do that? McCain or Obama, that is where my vote would go.

Mr. Incredible: Iraq didn't attack the Stark.

Is the unnamed source (liar) Benjamin Netanyahu?

By the way Palin supported anti Israel Buchanan. Are the Israelis concerned?

In that case, you must HATE Reagan since he was President when this attack happened, and by doing nothing, he must be considered an appeaser.

Just how did an Israeli newspaper article get into the American news so fast. I guess the "anonymous" sources in the McCain camp do more than just make unsupported attacks.

ABC is turning into the republican sewer!

Mr. Incredible,

The US did not go to war because it disliked Germany, or thought Germany was an imminent threat.

Germany declared war on the US. Because it was allied with Japan, and the US declared war on Japan. (Hint: Japan attacked the US first. It was called Pearl Harbor)

So learn your history before you try to use it to prove your (incorrect) point.

I am not a supporter of Obama/biden (mostly Obama) but I can't believe Biden thinks that way or said that.He is alot smarter than that even he does have big mouth.

Jo the NAFTA deal was not one person and they were told Obama wanted some changes in the NAFTA policyas did the Clinton Campaign .Why would anyone believe and un named source.Seems to me the Israel people like Obama when he was there but right now they know that President Bush controls things and this may have been another Carl Rove story of misleading statements.I would say vote McCain at you peril as IMO he would bring us if not actually to,on the brink of a third war

Posted by: jojobo1 | Sep 1, 2008 6:21:27 PM

==bombing a country that hasn't attacked us ...==

Did Germany attack the United States? Yet, we went to war with Germany, and killed many. So what? Who brought it upon them?

By the way, Iraq attacked us. Remember the USS Stark?

==Joe Biden has always been a strong supporter of Israel. ==

Until, of course, if the story is true, he told the Israelis otherwise.

Posted by: Mr. Incredible | Sep 1, 2008 5:12:03 PM

==The question for the nineteen hijackers is why did you do it?==

No, it isn't. It's THAT they did it. That fact eliminates the need for further facts.

== Bin Laden said it was because of invasive pro-Israel foreign policy in the arab world.==

His people did it, not us and not Israel. Typical responsibility shift.

== Listen to your enemies and you may learn something. ==

That doesn't mean that they are correct and that we must change to accommodate them.
