Biden Camp Calls Israeli Army Radio Report a 'Lie'

September 01, 2008 2:59 PM

The respected Israeli newspaper Ha'artez today repeated an Israeli Army Radio report that Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, told "senior Israeli officials behind closed doors that the Jewish state will have to reconcile itself to a nuclear Iran."

"Israel will have to reconcile itself with the nuclearization of Iran," Army Radio said that Biden told the unnamed officials. "It's doubtful if the economic sanctions will be effective, and I am against opening an additional military and diplomatic front."

Biden spox David Wade said the unsourced report is simply false.

"This is a lie peddled by  partisan opponents of Senators Obama and Biden," said Wade, "and we will not tolerate anyone questioning Senator Biden’s 35-year record of standing up for the security of Israel.  Joe Biden’s first trip as a Senator was to Israel, he has worked with every Israeli leader from Golda Meir to Prime Minister Olmert, and he takes a back seat to no one when it comes to protecting the relationship between Israel and the US."

Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is a long-standing supporter of Israel and considered a key pro-Israel voice in the Senate by pro-Israel organizations.

"Senator Biden has consistently stated – publicly and privately --  that a nuclear Iran would pose a grave threat to Israel and the United States and that we must prevent a nuclear Iran," Wade said.

Israeli Army Radio also said that Biden told Israeli officials that he opposed "opening a additional military and diplomatic front." Army Radio said Israeli officials expressed "amazement" over the remarks.

The Obama-Biden campaign pointed out that just a few weeks ago, at a July 9 Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, Biden said that "Iran's acquisition of a nuclear weapon would dramatically destabilize an already unstable region and probably fuel a nuclear arms race in the region. It is profoundly in our interest to prevent that from happening.”

On the American cable TV channel Shalom TV last year, Biden said, "I am a Zionist. You don't have to be a Jew to be a Zionist." He addded that "Israel is the single greatest strength that America has in the Middle East."

Anyone who thinks the Left is supportive of Israel has been asleep since 1967.

Buchanan is Catholic. He was educated when some nuns taught blood libel about the Jews. Palin is not in his "religious" camp.

Lieberman will support McCain/Palin tonight on national TV.

Buchanan and Rev Wright are the two who are in lockstep re. Israel.

This is for "Concerned in OH": While in Juneau, Sarah Palin attends Juneau Christian Center, an Assembly of God Pentecostal Church. The pastor is Mike Rose, who is connected to the "Third Wave Movement", a religious belief that is sweeping through Pentecostal churches and the spiritual basis for Joel's Army, "God's Avenging Army", which believes the whole world, including America, should be governed by ultraconservative Christians with no democracy. Is she a stealth candidate representing a fundamentalist takeover of the US? Do you still feel that her religion couldn't possibly be worse than Rev. Wright? If so, get ready to go shopping for burkas! They'll be needed in the Stone Age she'd like to take us back to.

The date was 1 September 2008. Not everyone uses the month/day/year format the US uses.

Germany declared war on the US. Because it was allied with Japan, and the US declared war on Japan. (Hint: Japan attacked the US first. It was called Pearl Harbor)==

And, while Germany didn't attack us, we attacked Germany.

Does it occur to you that being ready is not the same as being enthusiastic? Or that telling the US to be smarter while branding dissenters as being knuckleheads is exactly how BushCo got us into the Iraq War?

The middle way is to convince Iran that weapons they cannot use are an expensive way to spite an enemy they cannot defeat? It's pretty Pythonesque. They don't do this to start a war. They do it for internal consumption to prop up a theocracy that otherwise crumbles without external threats.

Again, MAD is a game of chicken.

If this election is about judgement who should we believe?
John McCain a POW with a son who is at war, Sarah Palin, a hockey mom whose real life problems match those of most Americans or 2 millionaires who don't even agree with each other.
Fact: The only person who has run anything in this entire race is Sarah Palin. Think about it.

If McCaint is going to claim 'experience' (time in Washington), then the Harvard Law grad and Chicago University Law professor, Barack Obama, SHOULD CLAIM INTELLIGENCE, because time alone does cannot mean useful and effective experience!

Intelligence multiply by Time equals Meaningful Experience (ME)!

And Obama CLEARLY has more ME, with his demonstration of better judgment on Iraq, better judgment on a VP pick, better judgment in taking down the well oiled Clinton Machine, etc!

Moreover, Obama is a Natural Born Leader, as witnessed by his multitudes of highly INTELLIGENT supporters, who are motivated to change America and change the world view of America!

I mean, Hagee's hateful comments about Catholics were widely known... but McCain never had to distance himself from these comments. A conservative preacher can call the pope the "antichrist" and the press is gonna take a nap about it.

But, you know, Rev. Wright... well... we all know about Rev. Wright. It almost cost Obama the primary.

It's just a double standard. Most people are used to it by now.

I've got to agree with you, Ben. Unless we are willing to sanction another war, we will see a nuclear Iran.

The question may be, for how long?

So do we take a passive posture, make nice, apologize to the world, and quietly become isolationist, or do we look straight back at the leaders of Iran and say firmly but quietly, you bring it and we will settle it. This is not a game for the enraged or the religious bullies. This is the kind of war your prophets write about but have never seen, and if you do, it will be the last act of Persia for after it, Persia will be no more.

And they have to know we'll do it.

Nonsense, concerned.

Biden is a supporter of Israel. The left also supports Israel.

I think most critics of Israel see Israel as a mirror of the US. Both countries are suffering from short-sighted, hawkish leadership.

The problem isn't hatred of Israel... the problem is an over-identification with Israel. We want Israel to be like America... and with their neighbors... it cannot be.

That's not hatred. That's friendship.

My prayers are with Palin's family and all the Republicans who are soul searching today. Of course Obama lied about telling a Canadian reporter one thing about NAFTA,and then tried to say he didn't, until that Ambassador "outted" him in his lie.

Vote for the Obama/Biden team at your own peril. God only knows what these two would do once they were in charge. Scary.

Right after Obama takes high road here comes the republicans peddling lies for the low road. The bottom line is McCain has poor judgement. Once again...I thought no politics today. Just typical McCain poor judgement; do as say not as I do!

Oh boy. This isn't going to be good. Either you alienate Israel, or you alienate your far-left radical base that hates Israel.
