Cindy McCain on Her and Her Husband's Appearance on 'The View': 'They Picked Our Bones Clean'
September 14, 2008 4:35 PM
In a video recording of Cindy McCain at a Michigan fundraiser obtained by ABC News' deputy political director Karen Travers, the aspiring first lady says the American people's views and beliefs are not represented in newspapers and on TV shows such as "The View."
Mrs. McCain was speaking at the 119th annual Oakland County Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner, Saturday night, one day after she and her husband, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., had a confrontation-filled visit to "The View," where co-host Joy Behar told McCain that two of his TV ads "are untrue, they're lies," and "View" founder and ABC News superstar Barbara Walters asked Cindy how many houses she and her husband own.
"In spite of what you see ... in the newspapers, and on shows like 'The View' -- I don't know if any of you saw 'The View' yesterday, they picked our bones clean -- in spite of what you see, that's not what the American people are saying and what they are believing," says Mrs. McCain, per ABC News' Arnab Datta. "They are now seeing a clear difference with these candidates, and they are seeing who is going to make the best president, and that's why we're pulling ahead."
Listen to the audio of her remarks HERE.

I think that Joy Behar is a disgrace. She is nothing but a big mouth that loves to spout off and make ridiculous comments. She has no talent and if the view were cancelled, I'm sure she would be unemployed for a long time.
I don't routinely watch the view. These women make some of the most rediculous remarks.
I get tired of Whoopi always commenting about how discrimination is still so rampant in the US. Get over it WHOOPI!!! Your the reason your race doesn't want to move on. I think that she continues to spout off and complain because her antitude is so negative and unproductive. She should take some time and take a good look at herself. She is very very prejudice.
What can one say about Joy Behar except what an idiot. Wake up Joy, think before you make some of those hideous remarks.
I would be a very negative person if I watched the view on a daily basis.
ABC needs to change the format of the show and give viewers a chance to express their views.
Get smart ABC and cancel the View!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To Barbara Walters,
I have watched your shows for many yrs.
and liked them all except what is happening on the View. This is your
show and you let three women beat up on
Elizabeth Hasselbeck because they are
so left wing and don't give her a chance
to respond. The worst one is Joy Behar
who hates Pres. Bush so much that she
doesn't have any respect for the Presi-
dency at all. She should be ashamed
of herself. That's very unamerican.
I don't know how Elizabeth stands it.
And you also side in with them, Barbara.
You should have another conservative
to balance out that show. I think you
are losing viewers, cause I'm one of
them.

My goodness people. Do you really think that The View speaks for Democrats? Is your sense of "Us vs. Them" so grotesquely hardened that you can tarnish millions of your fellow Americans because of some TV show hosts? Please, get a sense of proportion.
My wife's family is predominantly Republican and I love and respect them all, despite our differing political beliefs. I could not imagine slandering them merely because of Rush Limbaugh's latest asinine insult or some ridiculous talking head on Fox News. I should hope most people can grant the same courtesy to their fellow Americans, and rise above such petty and pointless partisanship.
ps - re: Tammy. "I watched both conventions and decided to vote for McCain." Please, please tell me you are not basing who you should think be president based on the conventions? The conventions are _shows_. Borderline entertainment. Deciding who should be president should be based on a review of the candidates' histories, their policies, their likely appointees, their debates - not based on a carefully orchestrated pep rally. That's like saying "Based on the commercials I've seen on TV and The View, I'm going to vote for Obama." Not exactly what Thomas Jefferson had in mind when he wrote about the well-informed citizenry being the safeguard of democracy.

For those of you that still naivly think that the Republicans or the Bush Administration is responsible for the economic crisis that we are in, please click on the link and read.
Please get educated BEFORE the election, not afterwards. The Democrats have ruled the Senate and Congress for the last two years and are very much responsible for the mortgage situation we are in now. PLEASE READ and pass this along to everyone you know!!

I have watched The View from time to time and officially will never watch again. The women with the exception of Elisabeth are rude and closed minded. They have no idea what real people do for a living or how the rest of the world struggles. They are not a true picture of what the American people are saying! I thought they were unfair, rude and frankly were making fun of the McCain's. It is fine to have an opinion and ask tough questions, but try doing it with class and respect which I saw none of!

The women on the View no longer represent the majority of women in this country. They too have become like most television personalities; people who have lost their way and have lost touch with reality. I feel sorry for them. They no longer seem to know the difference between right and wrong. I wonder if their mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers imagined that they would be this way. Women who would take a stand against the unborn. I think Mother Teresa said it best... "It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish". How sad a people we've become.

I can't wait to see your faces the day after the election when jon mccain is president ......... thank you for showing the ugly side of the dems.......the people need to know what your like ........

The View is so politically one-sided that I really can't watch it any longer"
The women of the View were completely disrespectful, and would NEVER had conducted themselves in such a way to Obama.
I cannot stand those obnoxious women on the View. When you have someone on your show, they are your guest, and should be treated as such, even if you don't agree with their ideas. It's just common courtesy, which those women (except Hasselback) lack.
I'm so SICK of these obnoxious celebrities being so nasty. They are celebrities, and absolutely NOT typical of average Americans. The Americans that will vote McCain and Palin into office, that is.

My favorite entertainment these days is when McCain/Palin are criticized and vilified by the Libs. they're so jealous and frustrated it's comical. Like John's 7 houses..I think it's great, and if he had 19 houses it would be fine with me.
Those Libs still haven't figured out that this is a capitalist country. Making money and living well is what we do best. Just because someone has a brain and the ability to get things done it's some sort of crime. Brabra and Whopee and the rest on the view are old worn out has beens and really need to get another line of work. Joy Behar is more rude than funny, and Elizabeth should stop trying to compete on the low level of that show. She's better than that. I love the way snarky remarks just roll off Sarah. She's bright enough to consider the source and is focused on doing what needs to be done in the country. West coast numb skulls are just something to be stepped over like the piles of crap they are. Anyway, I find it all quite amusing. =)

Cindy McCain is a class act and she will make an extroardinary First Lady.
The treatment Senator McCain recieved was so different from that of Obama that it was astounding. The media bias is out of control.
That said, Cindy McCain took control of the situation and put the left wing liberals on the view to task stating," this has nothing to do with the campaign and the issues at hand". She then went on to explain that her family worked very hard to obtain their wealth and she felt no need to apoligize for their hard work and determination to provide for their family.
The thing that bothered me the most was Whoopis "slave" statement. As long as Whoopi is bound by her racism beliefs, she will always be a slave to her racism.

And if we don't like the unprofessionalism exhibited on "The View", refuse to watch it. We will be much enlightened and improved for doing so.
If enough people cease to view it, the producers will eventually have to cancel it. Posting comments is not going to force the liberals to change their attitudes. That can only come from within; all we can do is boycott them.
Or better yet, refuse to be interviewed by them, or have any interaction of any kind with them. After all, we are influenced (positively and negatively) by those whom we allow to associate with us.

Ever since Regan retired, our choice for President has been "choose the lesser of two evils." The two-party system needs to go. Period.
We have the technology to be a real democracy, as opposed to the capitalist oligarchy we've let ourselves become, so we need to get off our blessed assurances and do so! An estimated 85% of Americans have access to the internet; there is no good reason why we are not voting on bills ourselves, instead of letting our over-bribed representatives, who have voted themselves an ongoing yearly raise many years back, run our lives for us.
EverQuest has a more stable economy than our own country. Wake up people! We have become economically enslaved to a capitalist economic system, perpetuated by large corporations who worship profit. No Republican or Democratic President is going to undo all the damage that we've let our Congress and lobbyists do over the decades.
If we want to see real improvement, we need to limit the power of our representatives (most likely by using term limits to start), severely limit the access large corporations have to our representatives, put a better education system in place for our people, and actually pay attention to what's really going on in our government.
Unfortunately, I believe we've become far too spoiled and accustomed to having too much handed to us, in other words, lazy. We are now an undisciplined, boundary-less society, too afraid to set limits for fear of "hurting someone's feelings." Our refusal to make English, or any other language, our only official language is a prime example.
Our ethics and principles have become compromised, by our own choosing, and it's going to take a drastic, if not violent revolution to snap us out of our apathy. God help us indeed!

What about what Elizabeth said about Michelle Obama, and whats so wrong about being a Muslim? Give us a break people.

Awesome to B. Carpenter, Amen. The end of times are near and we even have an Antichrist. Lovers of themselves, The view ladies with one execption is all about themselves. They try and push their view of the world. A world that looks alot like He**.
McCain and Palin are our the ones that can keep us one nation under God. Thankfully we have some Christians that will fight for our interest. Marriage between a man and woman, rights for the unborn, Keeping american from being self serving welfare addicts. Hollywood including the view has no right to push their liberal views on most of the honest hardworking american. They get paid for being big mouths and woe is me and I am a black woman how is treated so unfair getting paid so much to run my mouth, woe is me I am a jewish women with a hugh mouth, woe is me I am a journalist who used to be respected but I decided to cheat with a married man and now let these big mouthed liberals push their views on others. Americans are so sad!!! If you have to rely on your news from the View. The McCains are true americans not like B H Obama, Cindy McCain is more qualified to run this country than Obama. If Obama becomes president, Biden will make a Good president. Down with the View and those liberal women who only like liberal democrat women.

I am very upset with the interview. They were very rude to McCain and his wife. I had never seen the View until the clip was shown. This is one that I never
want to view again. They showed just how liberal they
are, how come they were so nice to Obama. This is quite an injustice.
Go Mccain and Palin, may God be with you.

Perhaps Ms. Walters and associates should review and reflect on a more mature and civilized manner of interviewing. One that true professional inteviewers have come to find more effective in getting their point across. Thank you.
CIVILITY : training in the humanities
2 a: civilized conduct ; especially : courtesy , politeness b: a polite act or expression

Everybody is getting off the reason for these comments are here, so here I go too! I do feel that “the view” was wrong in showing disrespect to both McCain and his wife and they were very unprofessional! Tough question are alright, but please show at least little respect and let the person answer the questions. If they didn’t like that answers that was given that should be okay, because the difference of opinions are what make this country great and work! Drama in the media seems to be the way for this election this year! As far as lies, both sides have lied on their ads! Everybody needs to do their research on both candidates, because the more that you research on your candidate and the opposing side you’ll find out that they are not lies.
I watched both conventions and decided to vote for McCain. I feel that he’s the better man and is more qualified to be our President at this time in the America.
Some years back I was a single mother going through college full time and working three jobs and I just couldn’t make it, so I had to go on state aid. I have since graduated and got off state aid. I hated going on state aid, but I had no choice at the time. That’s what it’s supposed to be there for is for help until you get back on your feet, not to live off forever as so many people do! So, I’ve live at both ends of the pay rate and I believe I understand a person needs and wants.
I can not vote democrat, because I feel that our constitutional rights will be taken away in America and that we’ll be turning into another Cuba, Russia ….. Why is it that in other parts of the world supports Obama as President???? Scary thought isn’t it!!! It’s sad fact but true, that most people are voting only for a certain race, sex or if they are Democrat or Republican. McCain is not Bush and I feel that that’s the way to go!!
Go - McCain - Palin!!!
Posted by: Tammy | Sep 18, 2008 3:15:31 PM
Someone get a pacifier to put in the mouths of all the mccain/palin supporters! these are the same people that supported Bush both terms and now what there are doing...paying for it! For some reason, they are stuck on McCain and this guy is a joke...so is Palin. These people are just like Bush. They lie on their campagin ads, just like bush lied about the "Weapons of Mass Destruction" yeah right! If you can lie about in you ads then i dont think you should be president, the way you run you campagin is a direct reflection of how you will run your administration. Republican Reps are even turning away from McCain, even Karl Rove said the lies are going to far! Karl Rove..the inventor of the negitive campaign tactic that got bush elected. people really need to start thinking for themselves and stop beliving when McCain said he is going to fix the economy but he himself said that he dont know much about the economy...wow. How will that work? McCain dont even say the word "republican" anymore, people are ashamed to be republican which i can really blame them and the Republican supports that are turning a blind eye to everything that McCain is saying is doing themselves and America a dis- service. Dont get mad at the Democrats and the media republicans, for when McCain's ads were coming out on T.V., ya'll didnt seem to mind. But when they were found out to be lies and were exploted, here comes the whining. Dont Get Mad At The Media And The Demos, ITS MCCAIN YOU SHOULD BE MAD AT!!! The fundamentals of the economy is Strong....please!!
