Cindy McCain on Her and Her Husband's Appearance on 'The View': 'They Picked Our Bones Clean'

September 14, 2008 4:35 PM

In a video recording of Cindy McCain at a Michigan fundraiser obtained by ABC News' deputy political director Karen Travers, the aspiring first lady says the American people's views and beliefs are not represented in newspapers and on TV shows such as "The View."

Mrs. McCain was speaking at the 119th annual Oakland County Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner, Saturday night, one day after she and her husband, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., had a confrontation-filled visit to "The View," where co-host Joy Behar told McCain that two of his TV ads "are untrue, they're lies," and "View" founder and ABC News superstar Barbara Walters asked Cindy how many houses she and her husband own.

"In spite of what you see ... in the newspapers, and on shows like 'The View' -- I don't know if any of you saw 'The View' yesterday, they picked our bones clean -- in spite of what you see, that's not what the American people are saying and what they are believing," says Mrs. McCain, per ABC News' Arnab Datta. "They are now seeing a clear difference with these candidates, and they are seeing who is going to make the best president, and that's why we're pulling ahead."

Listen to the audio of her remarks HERE.

Remember when the "hard hitting" gals from the view had Obama on, and Barbara effused how the girls thought he was just "so sexy"? That must be their idea of hard hitting journalism! If that is not a clear bias I don't know what is!

Back again today, just to see what everyone is saying. What I am seeing, loud and clear are democrats completely missing the point and diverting the issue yet again. The issue is NOT the questions that were asked (although I am not sure how many houses John McCain owns is relevant). The issue is the unprofessional, bratty, ridiculous, childish behavior of the "hosts" (I use this term lightly). Yes, ask tough questions! We need tough questions. We do not need biased, immature behavior that I would expect from a 9 year old child.

I see this behavior in virtually every interview, debate, etc where the democrats are involved. It is almost comical. The democrats always seem to be the ones yelling, screaming and name bashing. I guess that when you can't win with intelligence, you revert to acting like a child.

Out of all of the comments that I have read on here, I see very few that are obviously democratic based that show any intelligence whatsoever. Kudos to those of you that read, listen and actually know about the issues at hand. It is nice to see that some people are actually paying attention.

As far as The View goes, I really don't care who they are interviewing. They should treat people with respect and maybe they should actually let the person answer the questions without interrupting them constantly and rolling their eyes. Everyone deserves to be treated fairly. That is not what happened on this show. I was embarrassed by their behavior.

Also, just to clarify, I do have a job that I go to every day and I wasn't sitting around eating bon-bons watching the television. I saw the interview on the internet later that evening.

McCain:"Nominating justices to the United States Supreme Court and other courts who strictly interpret the Constitution of the United States.
I want people who interpret the Constitution of the United States the way our founding fathers envisioned"
I believe Roe v. Wade was a very bad decision.I thought other decisions of the United States Supreme Court were bad decisions.

THUS:

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Do I have to be worried about becoming a slave again? about being returned to slavery because certain things happened in the Constitution that you had to change.

McCAIN: I, I understand your point.

GOLDBERG: Okay, okay.

McCAIN: I understand that point and I, I,thank you. That’s an excellent point.

GOLDBERG: Thank you sir.

McCAIN: And I thank you.

What is "RUDE" about asking questions of poignant interest? Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, SPONSORED by John McCain (candidates could not engage in negative campaign advertising without the source of the ads being CLEAR)McCain's ads are FAR from clear. Obama wants to teach kindergartens sex education...NOT TRUE (educate them about pedophiles) Obama wants to raise taxes on middle class...NOT TRUE (people making 200-250,000 will be taxed) If those poor souls making 250,000 a year want to whine, try living off of 28,000 a year in this economy

Whoopi, when you asked "do I have to worry about becoming a slave again?" I thought to myself, "since when were you ever a slave?" You've made millions of dollars on average talent in a country allows you to speak your mind, express your freedom, vent your anger and showcase your rudeness. No slave wages, those. You should be embarrassed of yourself.

What ever happened to fair and balanced reporting. Whoopi, your comment is why most americans still have race issues. Barbara you need to retire as most of us are sick of listening to your stupid remarks.

Go McCain/Palin

The reason it appears that the hosts of the show did not look thier guests in the eye is a matter of how a camera distorts, you actually have to look past someone for a shot to look accurate. But that is technical point.

The more factual issue several of you are missing regarding comments of appointments to the Supreme Court, is that a true "constitutionalist" goes back to the original constitution, that means pre-amendments, that does mean that women do not have the vote, blacks are slaves and the right to bear arms is not protected.

So are you sure you really want to turn the clock that far back?

The interview was fair, when McCain and Obama had been there previously, they were only running for the nomination. Now they are in the big leagues, the questions get harder.

Democrats unite and elect Obama/Biden.

Here's a novel concept, stop watching the View. Turn off your TV, go get a job, and you won't have to complain about what these people are saying about "poor Cindy McCain" and "Poor Mrs. Obama". We're so busy as a country trying to make our politicians more appealing by allowing them time on shows like Ellen DeGeneris and The View, that we the people have confused politics with celebrity status. THIS IS NOT A POPULARITY CONTEST FOLKS! Stop looking to hollywood celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg and elderly journalists like Barbara Walters to find life information. Do some research, WEIGH the information, be INFORMED! This country's like a stupid pack of lemmings. Read the information, absorb it, understand it, ignore opinions of others. Who cares how many homes the McCains have. If they paid their taxes on the money they earned, then it's moot. Not saying it's not greedy, but who isn't. Most people complaining about McCain's houses and money are the people who are too lazy to go out and really work hard, study hard, and acheive. The Obama's have their problems too. The Palin's have theirs and Joe Biden's got his skeletons in the closet. No one is infallable, perfect or incapable of making mistakes. The biggest mistake we can make is in voting strictly based on what you are hearing on the news and entertainment shows. THE VIEW is made for bored women who don't work outside the house, trying to fill their time before the kids get home from school and retired people who think that Barbara Walters makes a difference in anyone's life. IT'S ENTERTAINMENT. Take it as that and don't pay it to much attention.

Oh, I got irritated by the way the questions were posed, but I thought McCain was very gracious to the women on the show. Nobody really should've been surprised by the behavior of The View women. If you were, then you've never watched the show.

As far as O'Reilly's interview with Obama... O'Reilly was a bit of a jerk during that interview. Didn't really like the way he did it, but that's O'Reilly, so it wasn't surprising either. I thought Obama did well in that interview too.

The direction this country takes is up to all of us. Go VOTE Nov. 4th!

What do you expect from "Hollywood"!

Bob - Obama was on the show and Walters told him he was "SEXY" I saw side by side clips and it's not pretty.

I did not watch The View, because I have other things to do during the day than watch television. I am voting for Obama, specifically because I am sick of Republicans trying to shrink the government, while expanding the government. Josh McCain was the deregulator his entire career in Dc, and NOW he is calling for regulation. Sarah Palin did hesitate, did not hesitate, she does not even know the numbers on oil production for her own STATE, and both of them will, if given the chance, put hard core neo con judges in the Supreme Court and overturn Roe V Wade. No thank you. Barack Obama is not an elitist. He simply is not. Is he an elitist because he is educated, or because he is a Democrat? Bush went to Yale, an uber elitist college if ever there was one. Granted he got in based on his family, not grades, but no one ever called him an elitist. Cindy McCain's net worth (NET not gross) is estimated to be in the 9 digits, and she bought her husband a plane. No one is calling her an elitist. If this country were any more hypocritical, we'd be called Russia...

The View ladies were rude to the McCains and that's all there is to it. I believe they were disrespectful to John McCain.

You republicans are something else!
You just can;t stand someone checking out the facts. I own one home, when anyone asks me the question of how many homes I own, I know the answer, The republicans are so far out of touch, as Obama say's, another 4 years of the last 8? I don't think so.
And Palin, oh yeah, what a smart pick, she's already under investigation and refuses to cooperate, someone does that when they have something to hide?

This blog is 90 percent negative responses to the behavior of the view hosts, which just proves Cindy McCains point: The episode does not represent the view of most American women.
DOWN WITH THE VIEW.

I missed the program with the interview since I live on the Gulf Coast and had to catch a recorded copy. However, I will go to the trouble of researching "the view" (or "the spew" as someone else so aptly named it) sponsors and boycotting their products. This is just another media cesspool in the tank for the far loony left. The democrats and their extreme left media wing, have become so far out of touch they don't even represent their own base, much less the majority of the American people as a whole. Prepare to celebrate on election night when we see the entire electoral map turn bright republican red.

"The View"? who's view? not mine. It is a shame that the women from "The View" seem to think that they are speaking for the women of America. Well.. they are WRONG! I am not a rude big mouth like Joy lacking respect and class. The proof is here -they are out touch with main stream American women and are into their own little Hollywood hyper liberal corner. I will stop watching the show and take note of their sponsors. I have done the same with the Ophra show and canceled my membership to her magazine. It was a dishonor to our country the way they treated the McCains. That was not an interview, but rather an attack from a pack of angry wolves!

Posted by: Sylvia | Sep 18, 2008 1:23:11 AM

The question Barbra asked McCains about how many homes they had was just idiotic. Obviously they can own as many houses as they want since Cindy was lucky enough to have come from a comfortable family. Your jelousies shown right through that. They also happen to share thier good fortune with MANY no so fortunate. Unlike Obama who allows his own brother to live in a grass hut and live on 1 dollar a year. That is the most offensive thought to me. Talk about a greedy self centered all for me attitude. Obama can't even give his own brother a lousy 500 dollars? Fannie Mae would had given him another mil if he wanted more.
