Conservatives Embarrassed About Palin (No. 2 in a Series) -- 'She Makes George W. Bush Sound Like Cicero'
September 26, 2008 12:46 PM
Rod Dreher, a well-respected conservative blogger, weighs in on what he calls the "Palin debacle on CBS Evening News."
"Couric's questions are straightforward and responsible," Dreher writes. "Palin is mediocre, again, regurgitating talking points mechanically, not thinking. Palin's just babbling. She makes George W. Bush sound like Cicero."
Recalls Dreher: "I remember the morning I woke up in my college dorm room and went in to take my final exam in my Formal Logic class. I knew I was unready. Massively unready. And now I was going to be put to the ultimate test. I sat down in Dr. Sarkar's class and resolved to wing it. Of course I failed the exam and failed the class, because I had no idea what I was talking about. I wasn't a bad kid, or even a stupid kid. I was just badly unprepared, and in way over my head. Seeing the Palin interview on CBS, I thought of myself in Dr. Sarkar's exam. But see, I was a college undergraduate who had the chance to take the class again, which I did, and passed (barely). I wasn't running for vice president of the United States."
He mentions Palin's argument of "why having Russia next to Alaska gives her relevant foreign policy experience. I am well and truly embarrassed for her. I think she's a good woman who might well be a great governor of Alaska. But good grief, just watch this train wreck:"

I have to be honest and say that I am truly afraid of what our country is headed for if McCain/Palin win. However, Sarah Palin calls it, Palin/McCain. She is so not qualified to act as VP and my fear is that if McCain dies, she will be running this country!!! OMG!!! She reminds me of a highschool cheerleader who failed at history and Geograpy and has someone else feeding her the answers to her tests. I honestly don't know how she became governor to any state with her lack of knowledge. I was trul embarrassed for her after watching her interviews.

Hey, "conservative blogger" Dreher, didn't we elect Cicero twice?
Maybe the American people know something you don't?

Boy, the media goons would have had a field day with Harry Truman.
And, the "conservative blogger" makes no mention of Crazy Joe? No creds here.

Brenda:
The reason behind that question is that an average person is not well suited to be president or a heart beat away from the Presidency. How can Sarah Palin deal with issues relating to other nations when she doesn’t know where these nations are and has never been to any or know anything about them? As a president or vice president your interaction with the outside world is very vital, especially with the preeminent role the United States play on a global stage. Palin comes across as very average. Sometimes below average and that is troubling. The Republican Party and some McCain surrogates continue to speak as if Sarah Palin is the most qualified female leader in the party. The truth of the matter is that she is not. And if she is not, why was she chosen? This brings into question John McCain's judgment. Not only that Ms. Palin is not qualified to be vice president, she is clueless as to what the issues are on economic as well as on foreign affairs. Her performance with Katie Couric was just abysmal and I wonder how someone in their right mind will vote to elect Sarah Palin as Vice President, unless the person does not care about the future of this country.

Market Watch (Sept. 25, 2008) quotes Consumer Rights League's Chief Public Advocate, James Terry:
"...its decade-long history of voter fraud, embezzlement, and misuses of taxpayer funds, ACORN's pattern of fraud can no longer be dismissed as a series of 'unfortunate events.' "
"Here are the most important questions right now: We know about the thousands of potentially fraudulent voter registration cards turned in by ACORN and caught by officials. But given the size of ACORN's efforts and the fact that the abuses appear to be systemic, we believe it is fair to question how many more fraudulent registrations have not been discovered, Furthermore, as this mega organization with a decades long history of violating the law is turned to get out the vote efforts, we believe it is fair to question how many fraudulent registrations may lead to fraudulent votes or what other activities they are willing to undertake to influence the election."

Palin is a smart woman with chief executive experience and an 80% approval rating in her state.
She has a reputation of making good decisions that benefit the people and reflect the will of the populace.
A Vice President rarely makes split second desicions. That's just not how the job works. Given the time to examine each issue, she is a person who can be counted on to make the right decision.
She just needs a couple of months to examine the issues that the federal government deals with and she'll be up to speed. She is one of the best raw political talents in either party.

From Ricky: "Come on McCainiacs. Tell Mr. Tapper that Bush can't be from Cicero. It is a suburb of Chicago. Where Rezcko and Oprah are from."
I'm not a fan of the GOP ticket AT ALL -- Palin's a train wreck of the worst order and poor Senator McCain, well, anyway Rick, I believe what Mr. Tapper is referring to when speaking of Cicero is, in fact, not Cicero, Illinois, but Marcus Tullius Cicero, orator and political statesman among many other things. And since he lived during the time of Ceasar, we should assume that the 21st state of the United States was yet to be since its admission was not until 1818.

I loved Sam Harris' comments in the recent issue of Newsweek:
"What is so unnerving about the candidacy of Sarah Palin is the degree to which she represents—and her supporters celebrate—the joyful marriage of confidence and ignorance. Watching her deny to Gibson that she had ever harbored the slightest doubt about her readiness to take command of the world's only superpower, one got the feeling that Palin would gladly assume any responsibility on earth:
"Governor Palin, are you ready at this moment to perform surgery on this child's brain?"
"Of course, Charlie. I have several boys of my own, and I'm an avid hunter."
"But governor, this is neurosurgery, and you have no training as a surgeon of any kind."
"That's just the point, Charlie. The American people want change in how we make medical decisions in this country. And when faced with a challenge, you cannot blink."
LOL! Sarah Palin is no more qualified for the role of VP than she is qualified to perform neurosurgery.

News flash Sawrad, Obama is clueless as well. He got in butt kicked when he debated Clinton and he probably will again tonight. Why dems elected him over Clinton had nothing to do with qualifications.

From Ed Schultz, as quoted on themudflats.net ... "Capitol Hill sources are telling me that senior McCain people are more than concerned about Palin. The campaign has held a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as "disastrous.” The McCain people want to move this first debate to some later, undetermined date, possibly never. People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is clueless.”

This is hillarious we got Palin grasping for words while we have Obama reciting a dictionary and never saying a damn thing that is useful or based on reality. Then we have Biden who sticks his foot in his mouth every chance he gets -- yeah, I'd feel real confident with him talking to world leaders.

Here's a question: How does Biden handle the VP debate? The fact McCain tried to delay VP debate says something right there. However how does Biden "win" the VP debate with Palin without just embarrassing her. Which could lead to people actually feeling sorry for her. Biden should just play it straight and discuss the issues related to the questions. Let the viewers decide if Palin is a "train wreck" without hamering her. Which he could.

imagine that - and she still has 100% more governing experience than Biden and Obama combined. Hmmm. Americans are about to elect another George Bush with a better vocabulary. You deserve it you morons. Open your eyes.

Jake....
doesnt anyone care that McCain just used this woman for a fresh horse?
If she had done 4 years in the senate and learned a little public speaking and foreign policy she could have been a contender.
now she's just a footnote in history.
she cant be president--those awful video clips will haunt her forever.
Team McCain put her out there like a staked goat with only pageant answers to defend herself.
McCain used her up and tosssed her away when her value as IQ-bait in the culture wars (ie, the bounce) was gone.

James posts from the Consumer Right League attacking.
Who are they?
Why they're a front group for the credit card industry who has been heavily criticized by.....
You guessed it!
ACORN!
Which also fights against predatory lending.
Thanks for being a complete shill James!

Underdog
Couldn't agree with you more.
However hopefully the government will pay 20-50% of the loan value and there may be a few loans where the house might be sold for more than the amount paid for that particular loan.
Even though rare, given the size and large number of loans, this might add up to millions of dollars and perhaps more.
Notice the government isn't saying there has to be a profit in total, just a profit on one individual loan.

Biden was chosen because Obama was getting hammered for his lack of experience.
Palin was chosen for three reasons:
1. Obama made a mistake in not choosing Hillary who was by far the best choice and thus alienated a large number of women. Even Biden says Hillary was a better choice.
2. Palin was popular (80% approval rating) and a maverick in taking on the leader of the Alaskan GOP and
3. To prove to one and all that women can advance to the highest levels within the GOP party. The accusation by Dems that the GOP will only advance rich, white guys is thus disproved by action. Case in point, a GOP woman may well be the first President of the US!

Joe Biden was chosen for VP, for his honesty free spirit and his experience!
He’s supposed to make a point when is needed. Sarah Plain was chosen for the position after only one meeting .The decisive factor was only the women’s vote and the prerequisite to be the John McCain cheerleader. She makes only scripted interviews and has very thin Resume. Sarah Plain VP? Thanks but not thanks!
