Ex-Sen. Chafee, Member of 'Republicans for Obama,' Calls Palin a 'Cocky Wacko'

September 11, 2008 7:41 PM

Former Sen. Lincoln Chafee, R-RI, called Sen. John McCain's running mate a "cocky wacko" at an event in Washington, DC, earlier today, the AP reports.

Chafee said that Palin's speech at the GOP convention energized Democrats. "People were coming into my office, phone calls were flooding in, e-mails were coming in, 'I just sent money to Obama, I couldn't sleep last night' — from the left. To see this cocky wacko up there.

The audience at the New America Foundation reportedly laughed. *

The only Republican senator to vote against the use of force in Iraq in 2002, Chafee said he didn't vote for George W. Bush in 2004. He was defeated in his re-election bid two years ago by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-RI, and left the GOP last year. Last month he and former Rep. Jim Leach, R-Iowa, announced he was joining "Republicans for Obama."

* Please note, I originally labeled the New America Foundation "liberal." I have removed that label given the diverse political views of its officials. Apologies.

For all you "Bush Doctrine" nerds out there...how many of you could have answered that question? Doubt it. Charlie Gibson is also a lightweight. He has question writers. I doubt if he would have known, either, given a surprise question.

Remember, hindsight is 20/20.

Lincoln Chaffee only became senator because his father John was a senator. He is a man who has not earned his way in life...I couldn't care less about such a LOSER. And he DID lose his Senate seat.

Sounds to me like either former Senator Chafee is now a few tacos short of a full plate or he's been nipping at the sauce in his retirement days. Palin is a very intelligent, able, and level headed public servant and well qualified to become our next VP, and in my view will. There will always be detractors of course..even from the likes of Lincoln Chafee whom I respected once, but no longer. I do pity him though. The fact is and I think it is clear by now that Obama made a Monumental Blunder in not choosing Hillary Clinton as his running mate, and McCain made the best political move of his career in choosing Sarah Palin. It must be painfully clear to Senator Obama and the fact that Governor Palin pointed this out is further evidence that she is a straight shooter..someone that calls it like it is and is not afraid to state the truth. Those 18 million votes were exactly that-18 Million American votes! Lest anyone forget, Ross Perot more likely than not cost George H W Bush the Presidency by getting about the same number of votes (19 million). JFK was politically savvy enough to walk down the senate hallway and offer the VP spot to a man that he didn't feel he could get along with too well, but knew he could not the Presidency without. This man happened to be the runner up nominee (As Clinton was to Obama) who came very close to taking the nomination from Kennedy. That man's name was Lyndon B. Johnson. My only guess, leaving unpleasant things such as "ego" or other such reasons being tossed around as to why Obama did not choose Clinton and ignored 18 million votes-many of them votes from women-is that he must have not wanted to become President bad enough. Incredible when you think about it, but I find no other logical explanation really.

Mccaine- the change candidate? Haha. Yes he had changed his position to most of the issues. Don't trust him at all.
Palin a Wacko? That is a kind word. She keeps talking about Ebay and bridge to no where. She thinks people don't know the real story. She has convinced her self with her own lies and can't tell the difference now. She is more than a Wacko.

Palin is Wacko--. Very appropriate. She keeps on mentioning Ebay and Bridge to no where. I wonder if she is so convienced on her own lies and can't tell which is which now. She is confused.

She found the time to tape a cooking show with Paul Dean. PRIORITIES!!!

Charles Gibson was obviously taken of his guard when Sarah Palin hadn't heard of the Bush Doctrine. And after he asked for her opinion on such a well-known controversial doctrine that goes right to the heart of her competency to be on the presidential ticket, she looked completely flummoxed. A deer in a headlight. Very revealing and very embarrassing that McCain has chosen her as his running mate. She can be running from the media much longer. I worry that the media will once again "fail to do it's job." There is too little time. Let's get serious.

"In fact, he lost his primary as a sitting Senator two years ago."

Wrong, wrong and wrong.

He won the primary - with help from the RNC and the RNSC, natch - but lost in the general to Sheldon Whitehouse (D).

Your are confusing him with "Droopy" Joe LIEberman.

Wait I forget -- is it the Dems/Obama campaign that's against namecalling, silliness, and "low down" politics? Because w/the dismissal of mayoral and gubernatorial experience, the allegations of personal/ethical violations, the charges of "liar liar pants on fire", references to uneven temperament, the repeated references to age/prospect of imminent death, the "not having an abortion as the only qualification", liptsick, and now "cocky wacko" ... I'm losing track. At least the republicans usually make no bones about playing hardball (we want to win), the Dems try to have it both ways (we're the good guys, but this is what it takes to win an election)

This is pathetic.

Now right wingers claim they never heard of the Bush doctrine.

Just like the phrase lipstick on a pig was never said before Obama did.

That political amnesia sure comes in handy.

Finally - someone has said what should be on everyone's mind: McCain is so concerned about winning that he has chosen a running mate who he thinks can get him elected and in the process, if elected, will make this county extremely vulnerable. The man is 72, what is he thinking. Now if that's not self serving and selfish, I don't know what is. And he says he loves this country. Pailin, his sad pick, is an inexperienced, far right ultra- conservative who will continue the climate of the past eight years of savaging those who do not agree with her (hello Cheney)and bending the constitution to fit her personal interpretation. And if you don't believe that just look at her record as a mayor and governor. It's all there.

Gibson was kind of churlish, with his pursed lips and interrogation on the "Bush Doctrine".

Do the corporate politicos really sit around and blabla about the "Bush Doctrine"?

Positing the "right" to regime-change any nation whose territory is coveted by corporations ain't a doctrine, but a "delusion".

Gibson should be ashamed of himself, really.

Snotty, partisan loser turns up rhetorical nose at vital, dynamic woman with working-class background.

No news THERE. Except that Chafee's audience may have been laughing AT, rather than with, him.

As for "wacko", a can't-decide Senator who CAN'T get re-elected might not be the best spokesman on the "wacko" status of women he doesn't know.

So I still see many so called supporters of Clinton say that they are for McCain, WHY? McCain / Palin stand for nothing that Clinton stood for so there must be a reason. Is it that a percent of Clintons supporters are Sexist or are they Racist or maybe both. That seems to be the only explanation to their flip flop to McCain since he opposed equal pay, child care, prescriptions, woman's health care, and education, legislation while supporting the idea that Insurance companies should provide coverage for men's E.D. . Dumping his first wife whilst she was in the hospital. His current Wife and his running mate are both former beauty queens this all speaks volumes of his mind set. He is a User, So vote for him if your a HYPOCRITE.

Obama didn't see anything wrong with Rev. Wright damning America from the pulpit. How can we expect him to see the corruption around him in the Democratic party or in the cesspool of Chicago politics that spawned him? I'm sure he'd do the right thing - but the poor thing appears to be blind.

During the Cold War the two
sides were more or less evenly
matched militarily.

The Russians say that Gorbachev
was assured by us and NATO that
there would be no NATO expansion
east of West Germany once the
Russians pulled out of eastern
Europe. They say that the West
has broken its word.

Bush-McCain thinking goes like
this. During the Cold War it
used to be:

(USA + NATO) vs (Russia + Warsaw Pact)

Now if we bring in most, if not
all, of the republics of the USSR
into NATO, the military forces
would look like this:

(USA + NATO + most former USSR republics) versus (Russia)

This forever establishes our
military dominance over Russia.
Bush and McCain think that in
any military conflict like the
one that just ended in Georgia
the entire might of the new
Western alliance would be
lined up against Russia.

Bush and McCain will start a war
assuming only the best possible
outcome in our favor.

Think about it:

Nobody gave Vietnam a chance
against the mighty USA.

Bush and McCain told us Iraq
would be easy.

Now the military brass are
telling us that an eventual
victory in Afghanistan is
not a guaranteed thing.

The consequences of increasing
tensions and a potential
military confronation with
Russia are highly unpredictable.

Something that has Surfaced & will be even more evident in the near future is that Palin gets VERY upset when someone puts her on the Spot like Charles Gibson did. I suppose he broke their rules of the interview and asked a question that wasn't on the Theocrat's list. It's going to be like a never ending "Animal House" type of Comedy if Gibson & other reporters ask question not allowed....
It's gonna be a barrel of FUN ...

geevill,

The Bush doctrine is the concept that the US has the right to make "pre-emptive war" or basically to attack anyone we "feel to be a threat." I guess Putin was using the Bush doctrine when Russia went into Georgia. He certainly likes to justify his actions but using those of the Bush administration, but maybe that because W is his "good friend" (at least according to W). Palin may not know what it is (Rove and Cheney evidently forgot to tell her that is what it is called) but I note they DID tell her that she believed in it, because once Charlie explained it, she was all over it. So yes, with McCain you get 4 more years of the same, brought to you by the same puppetmasters.

((( There are some people who haven't yet heard the rumor Palin was a separatist is untrue. Even the NY Times had to retract it's assertion and admit it wasn't so.

I guess some Dems keep repeating untrue rumors hoping other uninformed people might believe them. Dave in lv )))

The NY Times didn't retract it's assertion. She was with that group for quite a while. What else is Suppose to be untrue? RoflMaO Ya gotta try harder Dave, show some common sense. Please...... LOL
