Fighting a Different Alaska Republican, Alaska Dems Credit Palin with Killing Bridge to Nowhere
September 08, 2008 4:38 PM
Conservative bloggers point out that in their campaign against Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, Alaska Democrats gave credit to Gov. Palin for helping to kill the Bridge to Nowhere.
“Gov. Sarah Palin said the $398 million bridge was $329 million short of full funding, and only $36 million in federal funds were set aside for it," the Democrats say. "She said it was clear Congress had little interest in spending any more money for it and that the state had higher priorities."
On another page the Dems say, “Gov. Palin recently cancelled the Gravina Island Bridge near Ketchikan that would have connected the Alaska mainland with Gravina Island (population: 50)."

What a bunch of lieing politicians. I can't believe McCain and Palin almost got away with this, but now the Obama campaign is calling them on this. It's the same trick from the Bush playbook, if you screem a lie loud enough then people will believe it. But not this time.

Fox News Sunday is being cited as why Gallup's 10% margin Saturday is falling below 5% margin as we speak. In just a day, "Palin's Lie" as some are calling it, is eating into what was a well-branded 'maverick/reformer' package. Since coverage of 'bridge to nowhere' has yet to fade, worse, will certainly have to be covered in Palin's first serious interview, it looks like John McCain and Sarah Palin are building a bridge to nowhere indeed.

WHO CARES IF OBAMA AND BIDEN VOTED FOR THE BRIDGE.
THEY DIDN'T GET ON NATIONAL TV AND LIE ABOUT NOT SUPPORTING, LIKE PALIN.
A DOCUMENTED LIAR ON NATIONAL TV. BUSH/CHENEY 2008-2112

you should all support and vote for sarah simply because she's a major league babe. no other reason necessary

Sen. Biden and Sen. Obama voted for funding the Bridge to Nowhere, even when given a second chance by Sen. Tom Coburn, who proposed shifting earmark funds to Katrina relief.

what crap--the queen of pork is now against it-------palin is as big a hypocrite as mcdummy.

When did the democrats become so unhinged? You all are relying on the Daily Kos better know as lie central as your fact finder. NEWSFLASH they are wrong 100% of the time.
McCain/Palin have effectively swung all fo the swing states to them and now Obummer will have to defend the blue states now that they are tied in California. I can see a repeat of 1980 again with McCain and Palin as well as this turnig out to be an anti-incumbant year in Congress. There will be much wailing on the left!

And it's certainly not, "If we need a bridge, we'll build it ourselves."
More like, "If we need a bridge and YOU won't pay for it, we'll just keep your money anyway."

jd has it right. The only reason she decided not to go through with the bridge was because Congress wouldn't fund enough of it. When she realized how much her constituents would have to pay, then she decided she would just keep the federal money and use it for something else.
That's not "thanks but no thanks." That's just "thanks."

Palin GOT AN ABRAMOFF / TED STEVENS LOBBYIST to help her get TWELVE (okay...11.8 if you're a.r.) TIMES what Obama secured for Illinois.
She's a Gov. Bush is her ATM Machine.

Palin kept the money dl.
Palin lied about stopping the bridge dl.
Palin's gonna need a bigger PAIL for all the lies she's tellin. Which are not on the dl, dl.
Palin lies RIGHT TO YOUR FACE.
Palin will lie AGAIN.

"John McCain and Sarah Palin criticized Democrat Barack Obama over the amount of money he has requested for his home state of Illinois, even though Alaska under Palin's leadership has asked Washington for 10 times more money per citizen for pet projects."

Actually, at the time, it was once thought she indeed did what she said.
Then everyone found out she lied about stopping the bridge. They found out she actively promoted the bridge. Then after congress cut the funding, she kept the money.
That information is a recent discovery, due mostly to the investigation of her record since McCain chose her. I would venture to guess, by the way this discovery is affecting their poll numbers (the lost 50% of the Gallup bounce in one day, due in large part to Chris Wallace publicly slashing Rick Davis' talking point on Fox News Sunday) people understand this.
She lied.
She lied to a lot of people.
She lied in the 'maverick' ad.
She will lie again.
People get it now.
Sarah Palin lied about the 'bridge to nowhere' earmark that she absolutely supported, kept, and aggressively sought the highest per capita pork for a single state in the country. Obama? $25 last year for military earmarks. Palin? $295 per person - ELEVEN TIMES MORE PER ALASKAN RESIDENT IN SARAH PALIN EARMARKS.
You can's make this stuff up.

Obama: "PLEEZE BUY MY PRODUCT".

Ryan C - this is sweet justice. Only the Democratic party would trash their party's only two-term president in 1/2 century -- and the only democrat elected since 1976. oh well...time to create a third party. we could skim off socially liberal repubs and do some justice.

Obama is losing it.
Only Democrats are able to screw up a free lunch.
Bill and Hillary must be laughing with us.

Mary -- wouldn't Alaska Dems know more about the bridge project than you? LOL. Obama should lose. As I said all along, the liberal bloggers and media overlooked his distortions and weaknesses, but now that the race is between obama and mac, the conservatives are going to kick his booty. of course , it's all clinton's fault if he loses.
Posted by: angry black democrat | Sep 8, 2008 5:48:51 PM
She was for it Jake... jeez, are you on the republican payroll too..
It is well documented that in her gubernational campaign, she was all for the bridge to nowhere... only when she got to be governor, did she scrap the project and then kept the money..
Get real accurate news elsewhere, this is not the place
Posted by: l | Sep 8, 2008 5:45:49 PM
how about that other bridge?
yes there is another bridge...
and may I add twice as expensive and just as controversil
there own"big dig" so to speak
yeah palin hasn't touched that
but that is probably because the earmark was big enough.
