Goldberg: How Is Biden a Good 'Governing' Pick By Obama's Own Standards?

September 15, 2008 11:11 PM

Teeing off the "Joe Who?" blog post Matt Jaffe and I did yesterday about how the media has largely abandoned covering Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del. -- especially compared to the throngs covering Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin -- The National Review's Jonah Goldberg asks how on earth Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., can consider Biden a good "governing" pick, considering:

• "Obama justified his entire bid against Hillary Clinton on the grounds that he had shown superior judgment by opposing the Iraq war.

• "Obama said over and over that we can't have the same people in different chairs if we want real reform.

• "His ad mocking McCain makes much hay of the fact that McCain came to Washington in 1982.

"Well: Biden supported the Iraq war, he's even more of a Washington insider than McCain (his heroic Amtrak commute notwithstanding) and he was well into his second six-year term in the Senate when McCain was first elected to the House in 1982. Now, either Obama's campaign rhetoric is a lie, or Biden isn't a good governing pick by Obama's own standards."

As Biden might say, "folks, answering this question will literally make your head explode." (Biden is the only person I've ever encountered who never uses the word "literally" literally.)

Anyway -- thoughts?

Mr. Goldberg has spent the last 7 years defending all things arch-conservative. He probably thinks that socaializing corporate greed is a good thing. Defend that. If a democrat/liberal found the cure for cancer he would find a way to be against it. A ZERO CREDIBILITY HACK.

Senator Joe Biden--the ultimate Washington DC insider for 36 years now--completely contradicts Senator Obama's theme of "change" & "hope." Biden wounds Obama since he is the perennial Presidential candidate since 1988! The big government senator who makes as many gaffes as Obama--without a teleprompter.

Joe Biden is one the worst vice presidential candidates Senator Obama could have chosen! However, the two makes well for the Arrogant Ticket.

Obama's choice of Biden betrays his theme of "change" & "hope" to be just empty slogans. Obama is a stooge.

Obama should have named his Telepromter vice presidential candidate instead. It certainly says more than Biden ever will.

After reading the other messages, I am very saddened by the logic used by many to select the person to be our next President. Yes, you can find something wrong with everyone and no, we all can't agree on everything, but this is the most important election of our lifetime. Please do some investigative work on your own instead of believing just what the media wants you to see and hear.

Check the US Senate records to see how McCain & Obama voted. Check to see the number of earmarks for each candidate and to whom the earmarks were directed. Did you know that in Obama's 143 days in the Senate, he has amassed a total of almost 1 BILLION dollars in earmarks? This definitely leads me to believe he is all about change. Did you know that McCain has requested ZERO dollars in earmarks over the course of his career in the Senate? Go to other Federal sites and look at other statistics - the number of times Obama has crossed the aisle to support the opposite party on a bill compared to the number of times for McCain. You don't have to depend on blogs to get your information.

Another important area to research is Obama's background. Do you know that he has refused to make his Columbia transcript available? No one knows for sure how he got into Harvard or how his education was paid - there is information that a bilionaire investor with ties to Iraq asked a friend to send a letter to the Harvard officials to help Obama get in and that he was helping to fund Obama's education. Go to the Chicago Tribune and enter Obama's name to check the archival data - there's over 4,000 entries, but you can get an overview as to his associations with Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko, the Rev. Wright and other less than honorable supporters on "his way UP' in Chicago. Check out where all the funds were distributed when Obama was the chairman of the Woods Foundation and the Annenberg Challenge - over $110 MILLION from the Annenberg Challenge supposedly went to improve education in Chicago - BUT it made no impact at all. Look up the groups who received funding from the Woods Foundation - almost every group is listed as a "radical" group in support of some ideology with a tilt toward Socialism.

The very most important thing to uncover is Obama's true beliefs. Did you know he is in support of a national police force - like the military? Can anyone say Gestapo? He is also in support of "A Global War on Poverty". Sounds nice, but this is a program to tax all the US citizens and turn over the funds to the UN to distribute to whatever country they want. Americans already give more than any other country to everyone throughout the world. Last, but not least, Obama wants to take from the rich and give to the poor - in other words, redistribute the wealth. I guess if you are part of the entitlement group who feels that the government should support you, then this is okay with you. My concern is once the government takes over and mandates your whole life, do you wake up one morning and realize you are now living in a country equivalent to Russia?

Check out this information and if you do not find evidence of this, then you don't want to and it is okay for the government to rule over you. For myself, I would rather keep our freedoms and benefit from my own hard work and not look to the government to support me.

I would much rather support a candidate who would be willing to lay down his life for his country instead of someone who is trying to change our country - and not in a good way.

Think about it - John McCain does not need the money that comes from being President, he does not need the fame - people worldwide know him already. Is it too hard for people to believe that the one reason he wants to be President is because of the love he has for our country. He believes he can make America better for all of us.

PLEASE VOTE - AND PLEASE VOTE FOR MCCAIN/PALIN!

Yeah. Joe Biden. The second biggest failure in presidential politics. Led only by Ted Kennedy in failed bids for the nomination.

Hillary is laughing, and counting the days till Nov. 5, when she can kick off her campaign.

Maybe McCain won't even run again. I hope he does, but if not, there's always

PALIN/JINDAL '12

Posted by: JRinLA | Sep 16, 2008 11:29:47 AM

If riding AMTRAK makes Biden more "in touch", than what does making sure AMTRAK gets billions of dollars in ttaxpayer funding make Biden?

If believing in creationism/intelligent design makes Palin unpalatable, that what does the fact that she's never pushed to change the Wasilla or AK school curriculum make her?

If not using a computer makes McCain unappealing, then what does the fact that his fingers aren't as nimble at a keyboard due to 5 1/2 years of torture make him?

If McCain admitting that you can lose touch with community issues when you're in Washington makes him out of touch w/the middle class, what does Obama saying he mostly "yaks" around make him?

What makes Biden so appealing is though he's been in Washton for 30+ years he's never forgotten his roots. He doesn't act as a Washington insider. He takes the train to work every morning and takes it back home every night.

He one of the "poorest" Senators sitting.(Worth $100,000-150,000)

His wife was teacher (until Biden accepted the VP nomination)

He has a sister who works as a waitress

ETC

Things like this makes him a average guy. He couldn't afford his daughter college expenses so he took another loan on the house.

That's the difference.

McCain on the other hand is one of the richest senators. He's worth $40.4 million alone without Cindy McCain's net worth. He doesn't know how many homes own. His wife wears $300,000 outfits. Their basically living the "celebrity" life style.

That's not an average American.

My point is, Biden communicates with the average American well. He's living their lives.

McCain is OUT OF TOUCH.

If Hillary Clinton had won, McCain would have gone for a Black Veepee like Condi Rice or Gen Powell.

And massive Ads onslaughts would hve been unleashed on her and the Democrats in black Communities with the message that Obama lost because of the color of his Skin.

McCain is not bothered about America and Americans, all he bothers about is that at age 72, this is probably the last shot he will ever have at the Presidency and once it slips by again, there goes his life-long ambition to rule the Country.

It is out this despiration that the Straight Talk Express has become Clumsy and Falsehood Talk Express.

The despiration will make him do just anything to get elected even if it will mean sacrificing the future of the Country for it.

I still shiver when the thought of having Sarah Palin calling the shots in the WH if God forbids, McCain is incapacitated to continue in Office, crosses my mind.

Jazzman wrote: "The political party that tries to keep the public uneducated is clearly the Republicans. Why else would they and Bush be for teaching creationism in public schools?"

Who is it that places the interest of the unions before the students? Who is it that is against allowing parents the choice between sending their children to failing schools or to schools with a proven record of success? Who is it that talks about improving education, yet in spite of being in the majority in most of the largest urban school districts for decades still TALK about improving education? Democrats, Democrats and Democrats!

Now then as for creationism, when you consider all of the incredible intricacies of living organisms here on earth; and then consider the expansiveness of the universe, the billions of stars and planets spanning billions of light years in all directions; and considering that without the earth's specific rotation around its axis, with just the right tilt, and the revolvement around the sun that life here on earth would be unsustainable; it is my personal opinion that it requires an incredible amount of faith to believe that all this happened by pure unmitigated random chance.

Angry Black Democrat,

You seem to have forgotten that Barack Obama took the high road throughout the Primaries because of the deep respect he had for Senator Clinton.

In any election, a Candidate must win, Obama won and Mrs Clinton has graciously accepted to work for his success in November.

Party Primaries is not to divide but to give party members freedom of Choice.

Senator Clinton will definetely have another shot at the W.H and you can be sure that Obama and all Americans irrespective of Party affiliation would be there all the way to support her.

We are one indivible Party and we will always disagree to agree.

Even among your sibblings, there are time when you have to disgree on principles and thereafter, make up in the spirit of brotherliness.

As I said, McCain can not love Democrats than Democrats themselves.

Who the hell cares whether McCain uses a computer or not? Good grief. Presidents get briefed all day. It's not like they go on Jake Trapper blogs to get their information. Grow up!

The computer can be a tool for transformative change in governance.
A network savvy Executive can make a
huge difference in that transformation.

Yeah, so go ahead and guess my color.

Once again race is used to gain votes.

Biden said to a group in NC that electing BO would be transformative
because he is black.

He's got 95% of the black vote so is that comment to get whites to vote for BO out of guilt? No thanks.

This entry reads like a riddle-me-this.

You'd like the readers to connect the dots for you? "Interactive" enteries. Soon "journalists" will be replaced by bloggers.

You hand us stuff like this and "Palin's teleprompter breaks and she 'wings it'. Are you still wanting to be taken seriously?

Mike,

Thanks for the information. But I wish to put it through to you that despite the fact that Computers are Creation of Men, they have made our lifes and living easier than what obtained at the beginning of the 19th Century.

They enable us to give answers to complex equations within seconds - a thing that the complex brain of Men, who created Computers, can not do; they help us to communicate faster than when we had to send our mails through Telegraphs and Post Offices.

Cars, Trains and Planes are also creations of Men, would you rather live without them?

Or despite the fact that they were created by Man, have you ever seen a Man that would rather he trekked a 100 miles than take a can?

Would a man rather than fly on a Plane prefer to go on horse back on 10000 nautical miles?

They have made living easier and that is what Computer has helped us to do.

You can as well advice that McCain travels on Horses and Camels since these were the main means of tras
nsportation used by "Empire Builders"

Can you see how "good" your argument is?

Bill Clinton never answers his email - at least not as a Pres. He seems did ok, well, more than OK, creating the most prosperous economy and peace during his 8 years.

Posted by: d0 | Sep 16, 2008 9:23:26 AM

...Now either Obama's campaign rhetoric is a lie, or Biden isn't a good governing pick by Obama's own standards.

Thoughts? We you or we really need any? Man, Tapper, you've got to read your own blogs. We have been telling you since January that 0bama is a phony, who only deceives voters by saying and doing whatever he thought was the wind of the day. He pushed many people, including this old toothless one, who might have supported him over the edge, when he liked the Clinton Administration to be the same as that of George W. Bush's.

He sold his soul, if he had any, to politics, his kind politics, which he calls new kind of politics - new in the wrong, deceptive direction.

Dare Nigeria -- Obama and his surrogates disparaged the Clintons. She never launched a "kitchen sink" upon him. That was just language the media used, because she dared to fight the Lord Obama. Now, Obama and the Dems are begging the Clintons to support him. I hope he loses.

PS: Of course I know that politicians lie. But the Lord Obama was supposed to be sooooo different. He was supposed to represent a "new" politics, not be "more of the same." I never believed this.

Posted by: Angry Black Democrat | Sep 16, 2008 9:07:26 AM

Dare Nigeria - I hate to inform you but
innovation, improvements and originality does not come from computers, it comes from people…..in fact, computers are programmed by man, and really computers do “not think” they just compute what man has placed in their memory. Are you going to get any spirituality from a computer? No, you are going to get information that someone else has programmed. The computer is an “information tool” only and way too much time is wasted playing games, emails and text messaging these days. The very fact that Obama needs a teleprompter to deliver speeches is an alarming fact but he likes text messaging. Those that rely on the computer to solve problems will be lost and that is what is happening in the real world right now. It takes people still that use their brains and hearts to rule a nation…not the computer.

Mike, Mike,

Builders of Nations never used these all important Technological tools because they were not available then.

You can ask yourself whether these Builders in the eighteeth and nineteeth Centuries never used Abacus which was the only tool available for Caculation during their time.

When you realize the importance of Tools like the Computer, Internet, blackberries, GSMs etc, you will wonder how we survived without them.

American is the beacon of Technology in the World; Americans are the major innovators in the World and Charity as they say, begins at home.

How would Countries patronize IBM. Dell, Microsoft and other Silicon Valley Companies if the President of the United States does not have an appreciation of these tools.

There is a maxim in Law which says "NEMO DAT QUOD NO HABET", Which means you can not give what you don't have.

My take on all this, if the truth be told, is that McCain is old and hence, unamenable to change, period!
Your excuse is Lame
