Hope-a! Obama Ouzos Love at Greek-American Fundraiser in Chi-town
September 23, 2008 9:04 AM
"We have to have a tax code that works, because right now our tax code is so skewed, mostly toward the kind of folks in this room," Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., told approximately 700 supporters who paid a minimum entrance fee of $1,500 to come to the Standard Club ballroom last night, where he raised about $1 million for the Obama Victory Fund.
Introducing Obama at this first of two fundraisers last night was Andy Shapiro, who attended Harvard Law with Obama and voted for him to be Law Review editor.
“He really is the person he appears to be,” Shapiro said of Obama. He is “an engaged, curious, intelligent person –- very much a change from what we have in the White House right now.”
“Hello Chicago!" Obama said. "It is good to be back home. It’s just refreshing to be with so many people who have been friends for so long.”
“So, we’ve got less than 45 days, less than a month and a half," Obama continued. "We are down to the wire. ... I hope people aren’t feeling overconfident, and I hope people aren’t feeling panicked."
Obama then hopped over to the "Greeks for Obama" $28,500 per-person fundraising dinner for the Obama Victory Fund, at the Powerhouse Restaurant & Bar in downtown Chicago.
State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias -- whom the Republican National Committee has attacked -- told the 40 assembled guests that “I think it says something for the type of person that Barack is that I treat him as a family member. ... There is no more caring, genuine, warm, intelligent, capable leader in this country, and I promise you, I promise you, when Barack Obama is elected president, you will be so proud of your support.”
Obama returned the love, devoting about a third of his six minutes of remarks to Giannoulias.
“I want to say, first of all, something about Alexi, and actually I want to talk about Alexi’s dad," Obama said. "Alexi’s dad was right out of a storybook -- he had been extraordinarily successful, and had built his success from nothing. ... He was tough, he was shrewd, but he was also a gentleman. I immediately loved him and loved the family.
“It reminded me not only of what’s best in the Greek community, but also in the American community," Obama said. "So, when Alexi decided he wanted to run for treasurer, I felt, all right, let’s go. So, I’m extraordinarily proud of the work that he’s done. He’s come in and made the treasurer’s office an active and innovative office.”
Obama then spoke about the financial crisis for a few minutes.

American-Greeks for OBAMA. Hopa-Hopa! Republicans and Bush are finished!
McCain isn’t Hope just Dope!

thetruth: No one was responsible but Wall St. themselves. Their wrong decisions caused themselves their own disaster. Bush did not cause it and the democrats didn't cause. Company's destroy themselves by the choices they make. That's like the foreclosures. Buyer's caused their own destruction by not putting at least 30% or more down and Banks should not have given the loan with no money or 5% down. All of this is caused by the people themselves.

This Greek American will not be voting for Obama and I doubt very few Greek Americans will.

Greek-Americans love Obama because he’s Democrats nominee, and as we know Greece was the birthplace of Democracy. Also was an opportunity for Obama to learn more about the dirty tactics of the Republicans during the electoral campaign. I believe Michael Dukakis have plenty to say about this. Plus Greeks make great parties and they are fun .Something what Obama need at this point of time.
Barack Obama! Gia Proedros Zito Hopa!

"And you call ABC in the tank!"
If it were just me, you might have a case. The numbers who believe that the MSM is over the mark in this election are extraordinary.
I don't think it is helping him. It's making voters mad. See Oprah's ratings. The MSM has hurt itself in this election.
The debates will shape the final numbers.

"while the Wall Street Journal writes about the depth of Obama's relationship to Ayers"
1 day after the McCain campaign's whining conference call asking reporters to cover it.
And you call ABC in the tank!

McCains Oil companies asked Mccain to deregulate bank and oil companies back in the 80's, so the Tycoons can play Take-Over with America. The same Tycoons, who still Advise him today, control oil stocks. They raise oil prices, so people can not afford their homes and business heating and gas. Then they sweep in and buy you out.
Will McCain succeed?
Only YOU can educate youself, on his advisors.
Vote 'NO', to McCain.

Giannoulias Oversaw $11.8 Million In Mortgages Made To Giorango.
"Questioned by the Tribune in March about loans made between 1994
and 2002, Giannoulias said those deals were approved before he became a
full-time bank employee. But the Tribune reported Sunday that newly
discovered public records show Broadway Bank made $11.8 million in
additional mortgage loans to Giorango just last year. Giannoulias said
he oversaw the servicing of those loans." (Rick Pearson and David
Jackson, "Obama Leans On Treasurer Nominee," Chicago Tribune,
4/13/06)
-- Giannoulias Claimed That He Thought The Property Was For Condos, But
Records Show That Giorango Used A Portion Of The Loans To Purchase A
Casino Boat Marina. "In March, Giannoulias said Broadway Bank
'never financed any casinos. We never did anything like that.'
But newly obtained records show that $3.6 million of the recent loans
were used by Giorango and another convicted felon to acquire a casino
boat marina in Myrtle Beach, S.C.Giannoulias said he thought that
property was for condos." (Rick Pearson and
David Jackson, "Obama Leans On Treasurer Nominee," Chicago
Tribune, 4/13/06)
NOTE: Rezko's Casino Debt Was Partially Obtained By Writing Bad Checks On His Account At Alexi Giannoulias' Broadway Bank. "Rezko allegedly accumulated $450,000 in debts to CaesarsPalaceand Bally's Hotel Casino between March and July 2006. He passed nine bad checks and got hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash or gaming chips in return, Roger said. The bad checks, written on Rezko's Broadway Bank account, were for amounts ranging from $15,000 to $120,000." (Natasha Korecki and Chris Fusco, "Rezko Wanted In Vegas For $450,000 In Debts," Chicago Sun-Times, 5/30/08 )

Kevin...no matter who gets in there,we will need to have financial adjustments done. The Reps got us in this, I don't feel REAL secure about them running the show for 4 more year....

So now we see Obama endorsing a man that the Chicago press has labeled a mobster, while the Wall Street Journal writes about the depth of Obama's relationship to Ayers and the mischief perpetrated by this pair distributing monies to groups with radical agendas instead of the schools targeted unless the schools accommodated the radical agendas.
Meanwhile ABC describes the Chicago event like a community love fest, ignores the Wall Street Journal article and features a piece on John McCain's fling from five decades ago?
Not in the tank? Objective? I didn't think it could get less professional at ABC but I was wrong. Creepier and creepier.

Samantha, McCain is tainted is you know very well. Even now he is in the pocket of lobbyists during his 26 years in Washington DC. You should be concerned about that big dark spot in his life. How many houses he has? How many cars he has? He has never worked to be bale to have all that wealth. Out of touch McWBush.

Wake up America.... pray BHO does not get elected. You think the economy is feeling the pinch now, if he gets elected employers will have to reduce staff, lower pay and raise prices in order to keep up with the taxes he will impose.
No hope of the american dream will be left.

Great headline? What about "McCain gets one commercial correct, Obama returns to roots at Chicago political machine fundraiser at $28K/plate. Mobsters abound."
A bit wordy for a headline but far more accurate than a 6 minute love fest.

Oh thats funny. obama dropped out of public financing because his campaign was fueled by the little people donating a dollar or two. If by dollar or two he meant $28,000 a head. Change you can hope in!

What devotion - a six minute speech. Did he use a telepromptor?

Alexi Giannoulias—a "man who has long been dogged by charges that the bank his family owns helped finance a Chicago crime figure" and "who became Illinois state treasurer" in 2006 after Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) Giannoulias vouched for him"—"pledged to raise $100,000 for Obama.
The September 5, 2007, Chicago fundraiser was omitted from Obama's public schedule and the event was closed to the press," Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
"Before he promised to raise funds for Obama, Giannoulias bankrolled Michael 'Jaws' Giorango, a Chicagoan twice convicted of bookmaking and promoting prostitution.
"Giannoulias is so tainted by reputed mob links that several top Illinois Dems, including the state's speaker of the House and party chairman, refused to endorse him even after he won the Democratic nomination with Obama's help.
"Giannoulias was the bank's vice president and chief loan officer for most of the more than $15 million in loans," Hurt wrote. although "he was not charged with breaking any laws. The Obama campaign disputed any suggestion that Obama is tarnished by the association."
