Obama-Backing Congressman: ‘Jesus Was a Community Organizer, Pontius Pilate a Governor’

September 10, 2008 12:43 PM

Last seen in election 2008 comparing Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., to the villain played by Glenn Close in "Fatal Attraction" -- having survived an anti-Semitic primary challenge -- Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., feels liberated to come on the House floor and say that "Barack Obama was a community organizer like Jesus...Pontias Pilate was a governor."

Prediction: the Democrats will soon put him in a sack and throw him in a basement.

Another funny fact, John Mac was a "community organizer" when he was in a POW camp, so I guess by the repubs logic he isn't fit for the office either.

I get so sick of listening to Palen whining incessantly. Every time she speaks it sounds like the McKenzie Brothers. Ya hoser, eh! Want another beer, eh!

Calling Rick Warren to get prayer material because she's so distraught at all the mean people. Get used to it. That's life on the big stage.

It's strange that repubs want to paint Obama as incapable because he was a "community organizer", but Palen is capable because she was a governor.

Obama was also a lawyer and a law professor. CONSTITUTIONAL LAW. You know, that really old piece of paper you repubs have been wiping yourselves with for the last 8 years? Yeah that thing. It actually means something to the rest of the country.

Palen has committed every sin that she spewing her pre-written message against. She is the empty suit in this race, and it's a shame that flyboy is hiding behind her skirt. Maybe he'll figure out that a presidential campaign really is about issues and not personalities, as his lobbyist campaign boss put it. Until then, they are both shams and don't deserve the office.

Oh yeah, heard about John's biggest bundler. Try a google search, if you can use the google, and look up McCain Keating Bundler. Yep, you got it. Your boy McCain has gone back to the same old well. Taking 5 million from Keating. Yeah, you know, of keating 5 fame? Again betraying the very things he's built his political career on.

Where are your mavericks now?

Jeez, now I've heard it all.

"Jesus was a community organizer, Pontius Pilate a governor."

Just another example of a Dem who wants to talk about "issues" instead of personal attacks.

Best wishes

I believe the truth about Pontius Pilate is that he was in fact a Roman Governor. He was Govenor of Judaea from 26 EC to 36 EC.

In this capacity, he was responsible for the execution of Jesus of Nazareth.

Pontius Pilate was actualy sincerely interested in the Jewish culture and did his best to prevent unnecessary violence to this culture.

So, if you check history, Pontius Pilate was a Govenor, who was a community organizer, and an individual who protected his people from harms way.

Sound familiar to the current Republican VP position. Palin in a thousands times better for the United States than Obama could ever hope to be (even in the next 100 years).

Ph.D

I imagine the Dems will make him a top surrogate...then when anyone takes offense Obama will refuse to apologize and go on the attack.

Dumb strategy....Obama is insisting on taking us to the lowest level of Chicago politics. He doesn't "get it" it was the voters who were offended.

ABC doesn't "get it" 1/2 of America are not Obama backing Democrats.

According to democrats, being a community organizer qualifies Obama to be president, but being mayor or governor disqualifies Palin to VP. How strange, I thought a mayor and a governor have more responsabilities and obligations. Who of the four candidates have any executive experience? Palin

Who votes against the Veterans health bills almost every time (McCain) and for the most lame excuses.

Palin a bridge to nowhere with McCain Driving on it. Brst Bumper sticker yet.

I never took away the impression that the Republicans were denigrating community organizers. I felt like that were making fun of the Obama campaign's stressing that his background as a community organizer was one of the primary things that made him qualified to be the President.

If being a successful community organizer is a key qualification for the Presidency, when will Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson be topping a ticket?

When Steve Cohen made the Fatal Attraction comment directed towards Hillary, I was angry enough to want to vote for his opponent. Then, I was so outraged against Nikki Tinker's ads in the last couple of weeks leading up to the Primary, that I wound up voting for Cohen. Now, once again, I am ashamed that Steve Cohen is my congressman. He has received his last vote from me. Even though it will be an ultimately futile gesture, I will not vote for him in November. I am just sick of him and his mouth.

Pilate also voted present on Jesus's pardon. Hmm, who else votes present alot??????

McCain!!!

But Rudy insists they were all "procedural" votes.

The Republican comments on this blog, besides being consistently poorly written with typos and bad grammar, are typically mean-spirited and nasty, just like Sarah Palin at her snidest talking about community organizing. To keep harping on the Ayers and Resko and Jeramiah Wright shows how desperate they are to find something with which to attack Obama. Hey, guys, that's been done--and there's no meat there. Voting "present" has also been explained as a voting technique peculiar to Illinois state politics. Why don't you people just give it up?

Posted by: Marcy | Sep 10, 2008 5:14:28 PM

thats worth a point or two in the polls for McCain

Posted by: smith | Sep 10, 2008 5:12:06 PM

Oh, there's a good idea....let's see if we can resuscitate the Obama/Messiah meme. Maybe that will bring the poll numbers back up. Obama's flock is getting nervous and desperate.

So Obama is Jesus and Palin is Pilate...

HAHAHAHA

"I think the point being missed here by all is the fact that last week the GOP convention made fun of the idea of being a community organizer which is terrible."

It occurred after Barry belittled Palin's experience as the Mayor of "wa-silly"(as Barry put it)

Posted by: Mack | Sep 10, 2008 4:29:22 PM

you knucklehead, the POINT is that ALL COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS are not people to be mocked, as the GOP did. Right before they encouraged people to serve their communities. Which is what a community organizer does. The usual GOP hypocrisy.

Posted by: rich | Sep 10, 2008 4:02:40 PM

I think the point being missed here by all is the fact that last week the GOP convention made fun of the idea of being a community organizer which is terrible. Simply making fun of Obama or any politician is nothing new in politics. However, by making fun of the institution of volunteering for your community, that makes fun of thousands of people in this country including someone we hold dear in our religious history..Jesus. Would the GOP really want to make of fun of him too? That is the point he was trying to make not say that Obama IS Jesus. Class dismissed.
