Obama Camp Misrepresents House Republican Quote
September 26, 2008 6:17 PM
The Obama campaign is circulating a YouTube clip of Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo. -- the No. 2 House Republican -- talking about the role of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., at the disastrous White House meeting, on MSNBC today.
In the Obama campaign clip, Blunt says of McCain: "Clearly, yesterday, his position on that discussion yesterday was one that stopped a deal from finalizing."
Said Obama spox Bill Burton: “Congressman Blunt just confirmed what’s been clear since John McCain rode into Washington at the eleventh hour -– Sen. McCain’s political theatrics succeeded only in stopping a bipartisan deal. During the most serious economic crisis of our time, we don’t need erratic posturing, we need steady leadership to protect American taxpayers and put our economy back on track."
But that's not the full quote. What Blunt actually said is quite different.
REP. ROY BLUNT: I do think that John McCain was very helpful in what he did. I saw him this morning, we’ve been talking with his staff. Clearly, yesterday, his position on that discussion yesterday was one that stopped a deal from finalizing that no House Republican in my view would have been for, which means it wouldn’t have probably passed the House. Now, Democrats are in the majority. They can pass anything they want to without a singe Republican vote, but they don’t seem to be willing to do that. I’m please we can have negotiations now that get us back towards things that we think can protect the taxpayers better, create more options, and frankly be better understood in the country than the plan—the path we were on a couple of days ago.

And, by the way, here in the Midwest, we call the Obama camp "misrepresentations" what they really are...lies.
Anybody But Obama/Biden...

The Obama camp and the Obamabots misrepresent anything they feel will benefit their socialist cause...

Oh Boy!.......
The first debate showed how young, inexperienced and naive Barack Hussein Obama is and on the other side,....what a knowledgeable, experienced and wise the patriot John McCain.
America and americans can feel safe and in good hands with President Jon McCain, dealing with all the foreign affairs and the complicated issues of governance.
Democrats that love and care about the future of our country must consider and put our country first and vote for the Best Person for President of the United States of America in this precarious and complex times.
Based on the first debate, it is absolutely clear John McCain is the most qualified candidate and democrats vote for him, putting our country first.
Country First!
John McCain for President!

They call that dishonesty where I come from.
You media elites have flat out called Senator McCain a liar. When will you be doing so to Obama? Or is it that you only call Obama's opponents liars, while at the same time you are advocating for Obama?

Finally!—A media outlet has engaged in fact checking both candidates’ claims, instead of allowing the candidates rhetoric (on education and other issues) to cloud reality—the Washington Post’s fact checker blog suggests that at least one newspaper is fighting against the untruths that dominate politics, especially the debates.
The last few days prove better fact checking is certainly needed—anti-Obama ads continued to roll as McCain claimed to be suspending his campaign to focus on the financial crisis, and though he canceled an appearance on the David Letterman show, McCain sat down to be interviewed by Katie Couric.
Meanwhile, though it was clear that the McCain campaign had continued to march on, both major and minor media outlets, including the New York Times, continued to report that the campaign had been suspended, ignoring the obvious and undeniable signs that McCain had not suspended all campaign activity.
Though the Times did recently criticize Obama for releasing ads containing less-than-accurate information about McCain’s voting record and credentials after bragging about his integrity, (a refreshing change of pace that can be read here-- http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/26/us/politics/26ads.html) far too frequently, candidates have been praised or criticized for their words, (“I will suspend my campaign,” “I will not release inaccurate ads,”) while their actions, which have sometimes directly contradicted their statements, have been ignored. It seems that, especially during this campaign, the news media has been willing to abandon its role as a patroller for and policer of political untruths, instead, taking candidates words at face value and turning the other cheek as they blatantly ignore the guidelines they have set for themselves.
Web sites like factcheck.org have proven that nothing very little that a candidate says can be trusted, and the Washington Post and other sites that have decided to fact check the debates are to be commended.
It would serve the media well, especially during the campaign season, to remember an old adage in its reporting.
Actions, in fact, do speak louder than words.

the McCain campaign and many of the republican Presidential campaigns have focused on misquote campaigning...to say the least of attacks...
tonight Obama needs to watch out for the Reagan styled short delivery that says little of content but has much for stage acting impact.

ACORN and the others already got 20% in the housing bailout in July, courtesy of the Dems in Congress. Could Congress's approval rating possibly go negative after this fiasco? Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, Obama - do you think they really care about average Americans? I know they don't, that's why I'm another Dem voting for McCain.

Well, what do you expect from Dems. All they have been doing is lying to try to boost up Obamas lame stance on EVERYTHING.
Nancy and Harry handed over the reins to Barry O at the meeting and he screwed it up good (because he is an idiot when he is on his own and can't talk to his 300 advisers).
I think that is who Harry was talking about when he tried to infer that a certain someone came flying into Washington and made a mess of everything! Not to mention that the bill was crap to begin with since the Dems did not let the Repubs in on the writing of it and it wants to give tons of money to ACORN.
Question: If it is that great of a bill and the Dems wrote it, and the Dems can pass it at any time because they are the majority, Why didn't they pass it?
Answer: Because they know it is crap and they do not want to get all the blame when the people find out how crappy it really is.

What? The Obama campaign taking something out of context to make an ad? It's been happening in vile and disgraceful ways this entire campaign, wouldn't you think the MSM would have noticed by now? They just go along trying to elect their candidate Obama no matter what. Disgraceful, dishonest, and bordering on criminal, both the Obama campaign and the bias of the media in this election.

Jake, don't ever stop. You have been the only true "unblinking eye" in this whole sordid mess of an election. I don't care you're personal politics, you've called foul on both sides when necessary - and that's refreshing!

The democrats are largely responsible for this mess to begin with. They pushed for the establishment of Fannie Mae ,Freddie Mac. Groups aligned with the democrats sued banks to force them to give out sub-prime mortgages. Now that everything fell apart they blame the people who tried to stop them from doing it.

TruthMatters (yeah, right, you're really interested in the truth): ACORN is a corrupt and corrupting organization. Republicans have no objection to people voting-- legally. They do object to people misrepresenting themselves as legitimate voters. You must be a legal resident of the United States to vote, you must only register and vote in one precinct in one states, you must not assume a false identity and vote as a person who does not actually exist. These are simple rules that create order and stability in our voting system, and they are rules that some ACORN activists and other troublemakers flout with impunity. Every vote counts-- but if the votes are diluted by illegitimate votes, our democracy is undermined.
And despite your innuendos, there is no record of major voting fraud committed by Republicans.
Oh, and JR: You sarcastically wrote below: "Yeah, McCain was so important to the discussions that he SAT THERE with his mouth shut the whole time and who could blame him. The whole thing was way OVER his head." Hey, JR, I thought you guys were always bragging about your candidate's supposedly cerebral approach to things. And then you go and mock someone else who had the good sense to go into the meeting with an open mind and sat quietly assessing the situation and listening to the various arguments. If he HAD opened his mouth more, you would be snarking that he was injecting presidential politics into the situation. Of course, you aren't saying that now because it was Obama who, in concert with his Democratic allies, tried to use the meeting to appear "presidential." WHen the president indicated that the democratic leadership could speak, they in turn handed off to Obama, who then presented their talking points.

memoryaid: there never was a deal. Do you really think the republicans will agree to something that will put them at a disadvantage and goes against everything they believe in.

No, he means that they 'lie' regularly.

I am glad you are reporting on this but will this be reported in the MSM for evrybody to know. Not really. So if you don't read this blog you will never know what is going on. The MSM has been doing a disservice to this country for the past 20 years. They have reduced them self to nothing more then partisan hacks.

The Democratic party representatives in DC have become the most disgusting, appauling group in the history of this country. Politics, by nature is rough and tumble, tricky and clever but these people have stepped out beyond anything that resembles sanity and what they do is not in the best interest of the country. The people in these reps. districts should be ASHAMED of themselves. Foolish Americans! I am so disgusted with the lies. SCOUNDRELS!!!!!!!! I pray the rest of America are smart and savy enough to see through the media and these political thieves. Obama and a Dem congress will destroy my beautiful nation and I am just sick at the thought of this young up and coming tyrant. He has called the DOJ on radio stations in Chicago who air authors of books about him, he has now threatened to sue the NRA for their ads and some Dems in one of their own districts have threatened to sue any group that produces ads that his campaign thinks are lies. This is FASCISM as clear as it can be. My GOD!!! WAKE UP PEOPLE!!

This is infuriating. Obama and his followers claim to be the nuanced and more intelligent crowd, yet pounce on out-of-context sound bites so small they hardly have any meaning and can be manipulated in any way. 100 years in Iraq, for example. Fundamentally strong, for example. Now this, and more to come.

The Obama campaign has been shamelessly lying left and right. It's about time the media starts to call him out for it instead of ignoring it in their quest for an Obama Presidency. Too bad though it's only Jake doing this and not the rest of the MSM. Had McCain done this it would have been headline news for a week!

Look, it's the Chicago way. Lie, cheat steal, pay people off, bring the dead back to life to vote, let people's house pets vote, fabricate quotes and stories, have your opponents thrown off the ballot, dig into your opponent's divorce records so you can publicize as much dirt on them as possible. This is the political legacy of Barack Obama. There's no "change" there. Obama is the same type of sleazy Chicago machine politician we've seen time and time again.

Bertha: "Could it be the Secretary of Treasury, a Democrat, is angling for a job in an Obama Administration?"
Erm... The Secretary of Treasury, as appointed by Bush, is Henry Paulson. He's a Republican. Not a Democrat.
