Obama Dismisses Sexism Complaints From McCain-Palin Campaign as ‘Working the Refs’
September 04, 2008 4:20 PM
At a press availability just now in York, Pa., I had an opportunity to ask Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., about the pushback from Republicans that the way a lot of the media and Democrats –- including some from his campaign -- have reacted to Gov. Sarah Palin’s appointment has been sexist, dismissive of the work she's accomplished, and different than how they would act if she were a male.
"Listen," Obama said, "if they want to work the refs, they are free to do so, and I think the public can make their judgments about this.
"You know, the notion that any questions about her work in Alaska is somehow not relevant to her potentially being vice president of the United States, doesn’t make too much sense to me," he continued. "I think she’s got a compelling story, but I assume that she wants to be treated the same way that guys want to be treated -- which means that their records are under scrutiny."
Obama noted, "I’ve been through this for 19 months. She’s been through it, what, for four days so far?"

Kat - how about you show me a post where I made fun of people with special needs? Oh, can't do it? That's because it never happened.

For the people who want to keep lying about how Palin presumably cut special needs funding:
The Alaska Dept of Education and Early Development web site and media articles show that Palin actually raised spending from $26,900 per student to $73,840 by 2011.
Now, I know we might count a little differently here in bitter small town America, but that's a huge funding increase. Not a decrease.

Kat - I gave the stats down thread which show how STate of Alaska financial records put to bed the absolute lie that Palin cut special needs funding.
She RAISED funding and by a HUGE amount.
But keep lying. And whining.

Peaches -In addition to slashing special needs fundings, which is important to many families, and which you apparently find mockable, you can find plenty evidence of earmark sending and fiscal irresponsibility. After Palin finished being mayor of Wasilla, she left a budget with a budget deficit in the millions. She originally started off with a balanced budget. It's not just her lack of regard to the needs of people that's disconcerting, but also her carelessness with funding which is well documented. Don't knock the handicapped and vulnerable; that's too low of a blow, lady. I'm out of here for the evening, but I'll be happy to get bak with you.

Oh no, there is no sexism here. Gov. Palin is ridiculed for lack of experience even though she's a former Mayor and present Gov, but Obama's 200 days as a Senator before he jumped on the campaign trail is sufficient.
Please. There are different standards here, for sure. Don't think average Americans don't notice.
Too many Democrats are just plain dumb. They should have nominated Hillary. Now they'll be lucky as hell to win in a squeaker. I'll be surprised if they pull it off.

GREAT JOB GOV PALIN!!!! You have EARNED my VOTE!!!
Obama is the one that said"She was a small town mayor" - WELL - She is a US GOV - from our largest State -
Palin was only defending herself against the obama gang's attacks on her qualifications.

Rouge Cou said this:
Sarah Palin has held a long time belief that people in opposite races should not date. She is a self confessed "redneck".
****
What a crock. We'll wait where you find a link to any statement she's made that people of the opposite race shouldn't date.
Can't do it? Oh, I didn't think so.

Okay, Ryan, if they were primaries rather than caucus Hillary would win"
What I said was that some caucuses are not included in popular vote totals because they do not keep popular vote totals (caucuses for IA, ME, NV & WA).
Even with FL(which was a straw vote practically) included Obama got 40,000 more votes than Hillary.

Obama has written two books about himself, but has never written any new legistlation.

Obama constantly refers to Palin as the former mayor.
So I think it's only fair we refer to Obama as the FORMER COMMUNITY ORGANIZER.

McCain being sexist doesn't take away from the fact that OBAMAS camp was TOTALLY SEXIST.
Posted by: irma | Sep 4, 2008 6:18:31 PM
LOL - Obama sexist? Have you heard the things that come out of J. McCain's mouth or observed the fact that being a beauty queen is apparently his main priority in picking the women he's closest to?
Posted by: Hypocrites | Sep 4, 2008 6:16:49 PM
Okay, Ryan, if they were primaries rather than caucus Hillary would win. We're just going in cycles with the argument.

Wow.what a smart, wonderful woman.
AP reports Palin attended 5 colleges in 6 years

I donated last night after Palin's speech. I was so repulsed by the ugly sarcasm and the distortions and outright lies. "Advocate" of special needs kids??? As governor, she slashed funds for special needs children by 62%! Some advocate.

mary anne
you need to quote the whole thing that obama said if you are going to quote him
if you want fair treatment as a women, then start treating others fairly...
obama didnt just come otu and say... people in small towns are angry and cling to guns and religion
have a good night san francisco
he was asked why rural voters dont vote or vote a certain way
his actual reply was
You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them...And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.
And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
you see they vote for people who are for guns, who are for religion, or anti immigrant... they dont vote for jobs or taxes
he was saying this is thier voting pattern because this is what htey are thinking
he has said cling was too strong of a word and wasnt the best way to say it... but the point is still clear and it isnt a statment that is a bash or a mocking statment at all
do some research... mccain and palin flub lines all the time, but thats ok
you shoudl be able to see waht he was getting at

To Mary Anne. If you watched or listened carefully to Obama's speech that he gave during the convention, you should have heard him proudly mention his grandmother. She is sick and can't travel that's why she wasn't there. Please check your facts before showing your ignorance.

Sarah Palin has held a long time belief that people in opposite races should not date. She is a self confessed "redneck".
She obtained a business license a long time ago, just in case her political life didn't mesh, and named the business, "Rouge Cou" french for Redneck.
She will definitely appeal to the traditional Republican base.
Posted by: Rouge Cou | Sep 4, 2008 5:41:45 PM
do you think shes too old to travel maybe?
some old people hate to travel.. .perhaps shes not well...
i mean.. why are you such a conspiracy theorist mary ann
ps you still havent backed up what obama did that was so sexist...
you just keep sayign hes a sexist over and over and over... no facts, no facts... where are they
