On Taxes, Obama Faces Air Assault
September 20, 2008 5:56 PM
This afternoon, as Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., addressed a rally in Jacksonville, Fla., a small airplane flew overhead pulling a banner that read, "Raising taxes is not patriotic."
The banner was in reference to comments made by Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., this week, to ABC News' Kate Snow about the Obama-Biden campaign's plan to raise taxes on those making more than $200,000 or $250,000 per couple.
"It's time to be patriotic, Kate," Biden said. "Time to jump in. Time to be part of the deal. Time to help get America out of the rut. And the way to do that is, they're still going to pay less taxes than they did under Reagan."
Obama told the Florida crowd of 12,000 today, "I will cut taxes. Don’t believe what those folks say. Don’t let them run the okey doke on you. You heard of the okey doke. Don’t let 'em bamboozle you. Don’t be hoodwinked. I will cut taxes, cut taxes for 95 percent of all working families."
Obama continued, playing off the crowd, saying "My opponent doesn’t want you to know this, but under my plan, tax rates will actually be less than they were under Ronald Reagan. If you make less than $250,000 a year – if you make less – that’s you? If you make less than a quarter million dollars a year – that’s you? – you will not see your taxes increase one single dime. Not one dime. In fact, I offer three times the tax relief for middle class families as Senator McCain does, because an economy like this, the last thing we should do is raise taxes on the middle class."
"So don’t believe those commercials," Obama concluded. "I’m a tax-cutter. I’m gonna put some money in your pockets so you can spend that money buying groceries and buying gas and you can help that small business."

Right Barry. 40% of tax fliers pay no taxes...they get money PAID to them because of tax credits.
Barry's ephemeral tax cut for 95% of Americans (ever wonder why he doesn't phrase it 95% of tax-payers?) will just re-distribute more money from tax-PAYERS pockets to NON-TAXPAYER pockets.
Why? Because the non-taxpayers are Barry's Base.

Curious, did they count 20 hr/wk "jobs" as being employed back then? Do we now? Were employed H1B visa recipients included in the "employed" group back then? Are they now?
The only thing that is keeping the unemployment rate lower than they actually are is the new ways to "account" these numbers. Stats do indeed lie.

More about Shadow governer Todd Palin of Alaska-John Harris, the Republican speaker of the Alaska House, said he had never been called by the spouse of a governor, before the two calls he got from Todd Palin. One was to argue for moving the state capital to Anchorage. The other was to ask Harris to "keep an eye" on a key aide who had an affair with the wife of one of Todd's best friends.
What has happened to Alaskas crime reat, debt, and prices on rape kits. They sky-rocketed through her glass ceiling. Alaska needs help now. Do not let the Palins get away with fraud. Obama and McCain Tax Proposals
According to a new analysis by the Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution,...
Obama's plan gives the biggest cuts to those who make the least, ...
while McCain would give the largest cuts to the very wealthy.

Obama has said "those collecting dividends and receiving capital gains should pay the same taxes as any wage earner." That would be 38%.
He has also said the capital gains rate should be less than 28%.
In his interview with O'Reilly he said the capital gains rate would go from 15% to "no more than 20%".
In his interview with George Steph on ABC he wouldn't raise ANY tax while we're in a recession.
For some reason what Obama's been saying isn't showing up on his own website.
Is that because his advisors don't agree and won't go along with it, that he didn't REALLY mean what he says, or is he just changing faster than his web maintenace can keep up?

"Bottom line, folks....Obama wants to raise taxes, and he has too, not to help you and me, but to pay for nearly a trillion in new spending, to pay for pet liberal projects like universal child care for everyones children."
You can't be serious! Liberal pet projects? Republican Paulson's proposed welfare package for Wall Street pushes the national debt to approximately $12 TRILLION and he is demanding that no relief be granted for taxpayers.
Do you people watch the news?

McCain wants to tax your employer-paid health insurance. Basically, if your health insurance plan costs $11,000 a year, you may pay $3,000 of that and your employer may pay $8,000 of that.
The value of that health insurance, the $8,000, is not currently taxed. McCain wants to change the tax code so that it will be.

Giving tax cuts to the wealthy during a time of war is unpatriotic.
And those of you repeating the line that Obama voted 94 times to raise taxes, you obviously saw Palin on Hannity and are repeating the lie.
This accusation was debunked by Factcheckdotorg last JULY! Titled, "Tax Tally Trickery".

It goes toward assuring that underclass kids -- miseducated on purpose -- will be made clueless about the world in which they actually live, and that ALL the candidates for national political office in the futute will come from private or Catholic prep schools.
As it is, the only presidential-ticket candidate who went to public school is Palin. A good reason to vote for her.

Obama's claims that "you won't see your taxes increased a single dime" if you make less than 250k are laughable. Taxing business obviously results in higher costs for everyone. Example...Taxing oil companies more...does what...it increases their overhead...and if they have as a goal a 7% margin, then they raise the price of fuel.
The outrageous part of the Biden quote is that no mention is made of cutting spending!!!
Spending by our massive federal govt. is the problem, folks. Its system wide, too. We've got a Dept of Education that doesn't hire or fire teachers, or maintain schools...and it costs 18 billion a year. And private schools aren't under its jurisdiction, and do fine if not better.
Does the Dept of Agriculture grow food?
By the way, we've poured untold hundreds of BILLIONS into the dept of Education, only to generally see lower test scores year to year. How does adding more money for education as Obama wants to, help things?
Posted by: hippie | Sep 21, 2008 2:57:00 PM
I often wonder if we'd be seeing this much hatred of McCain from the left if he had switched parties like Kerry wanted him too, and he had seriously considered after his run-ins with Bush in 2000. To hear all of you talk, he's a Bircher.
Give me a break.
Bottom line, folks....Obama wants to raise taxes, and he has too, not to help you and me, but to pay for nearly a trillion in new spending, to pay for pet liberal projects like universal child care for everyones children.
In terms of the protectionist tone that alot of Obama folks take, its important to remember that after his blustering about repealing NAFTA, he sent an aide to privately tell the Canadians that its just election year bullcrap. Look it up...and then do some thinking. How will massive corporate taxes affect jobs....positively?
Those of you railing about jobs moving to China, need to understand that jobs are always on the move. Anybody who's been to the Northeast sees lots of empty factories, whose industry left for the South after the war....because the cost of doing business was CHEAPER.
The only way, the only certain way, to keep jobs is to reduce the burden on business to stop the flow of jobs elsewhere.
Turns out there's lots of Chinese out of work now, having lost their jobs to the Vietnamese. Get it?
Unless we're willing to completely turn over our businesses to the government, jobs will always come and go in a capitalist society, and Obama's taxes can only hasten that movement through his higher taxation.

meggie,
Small businesses have failed to hire people. I hope they make a law that says selling people's credit reports and girlie magazines from their basement does not constitute a business. These scam jobs must go because they have no intention of expanding their "businesses" and I'm tired of paying for your write-offs.
If you're small business material that can drive the economy, figure out how to expand your business and hire people. It defies common sense to say you cannot hire people because of a small tax imposition. To do so, one would have to completely disregard all the write-offs you get for employing people. To do so would say that you are only in business to avoid paying taxes.

Actually you're right, Obama IS going to raise taxes. For the UPPER-INCOME and corporations, so that we actually have SOME money to reverse the deficit. McCain wants to continue staying in Iraq, but HOW is he going to fund it? 12 billion dollars per month is no small amount.

Trickle Down My Leg,
Actually, most alarmingly, Bush hasn't even found 1 (closer to 3, actually) trillion dollars to wage the Iraq war. He's currently using America's credit card and billing everything to countries like China- that's how he was able to get away with not raising, and actually cutting taxes for a while. Well, since the number is running into the trillions already, you can just imagine the interest we're going to have to pay eventually.
Socialist policies do not make a country a socialist country. A socialist country would go much further- with the government owning EVERYTHING, like the entertainment, all the industries and sectors. It would be impossible for a president to try to change all of that. Government taking more charge of healthcare and welfare is pretty standard. No, the US is not in danger of becoming socialist/communist. The media and culture of freedom of speech Americans have enjoyed and believed in is something supremely difficult to dismantle.

Paulson is a Republican, so your assertions that he would withhold information from McCain is ridiculous.
Paulson was also the CEO of Goldman Sachs, the company that forced Lehman out of business with short-sales and rumor-mongering. Lehman is the only company the Bush regime forced into bankruptcy while all the other Wall Street gang gets a bail-out.
Paulson has worked for Republicans his entire life -- as far back as the Nixon administration.

I beleive if you do your homework, you may find:.
Under Carter, there was a REPUBLICAN congress. (You know, the folks who actually make the laws - well excluding Cheney and Bush who make their own laws)
They started the deregulation push that was a cornerstone of the Reagan campaign.
The Congress was also controlled by Republicans during the time when financial deregulation occured under Clinton.
It isn't that black and white. Most economists agree that overly-controlled markets are not a good idea for maximizing gain and efficiency. But there has to some oversights to prevent the collapses we've seen these last two weeks.

Republicans, in EVERY election, always use words like "socialism" and "communism" as a lame attemt to try and discredit a more democratic economic policy.
Yah, I hear ya there McCarthy!
Our system has NEVER been a pure capitalist system. The recent bailout shows that all too clearly.
We have always had regulations, price controls, tarrifs, import duties, etc. that all affect the nature of the various markets. It's an obvious mixture of various economic concepts.
Our nation was founded on the principle of a government FOR THE PEOPLE. And "the people" are the majority - not just the top 15% of the wealthiest Americans.
The current Republican administration (the most corrupt in over half a century)has ONLY catered to the minority of mega-rich individuals. McCain proposes more of the same. And his sidekick speaks using WORD-FOR-WORD slogans that were used by Bush. They "reform" nothing.
NO WAY WE REWARD THE REPUBLICAN PARTY FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO OUR COUNTRY!
They'll just continue the same course and do it again.

Spoken like a true "republican patriot"! If Obama did wrong by ensuring that our military (in an already ongoing war) could have supplies needed to avoid slaughter, I don't know what to tell you. What you are saying is the equivalent of having your neighbor send your child on a life-threatening wild-goose chase, then faulting you for sending your own child the money to get home.
It is unpatriotic to be a republican in 2008! They'd rather leave our military to fend for themselves and pull themselves up by their bootstraps (Haliburton) than to ensure their safety.

Do your homework. Jimmy Carter started deregulating oil, railroads, trucking and airlines. Bill Clinton deregulated the financial institutions. Franklin Raines and James Johnson worked in his administration. Clinton's administration created Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and put these two good ole boys (network) in charge. Raines and Johnson made millions in bonuses when they were at Fannie Mae- Johnson and Raines salaries totaled $126 million each. Johnson was forced to resign from Obama's campaign because this FM/FM scandal was brought to light. Some of their Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's money is being used to help elect Obama. Also Democratic Secretary of Treasurer Paulson delayed informing McCain and gave Obama plenty of notice of this current financial crisis. Jim Johnson, who is currently Barack Obama's economic advisor, was not only CEO and Vice Chairman of Fannie Me, he was also a managing director at Lehman Brothers. In 2005 JOHN McCAIN cosponsored a bill to regulate Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae because of the financial dangers they presented to the taxpayers. Guess who blocked that bill! The Democrats! Raines has been accused by the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight of cooking Fannie Mae's books and that is why he was forced to step down.

Those of you who do need Obama to be proud, get real, the President does not make the country, the people do. All people, white, black, brown, male, female.
With the economy the way it is today, we ALL will see a tax increase regardless of how much we make. Congress will ensure that, not the President, regardless who that may be following the November election.
Everyone wants change, change the Congress.

Do you ask yourself why, suddenly, Bush finds 700 BILLION (nearly a TRILLION) dollars of OUR money to bail out Wall Street greed and could never find that money to provide health care, fix US infrastructure, and provide jobs?
------------------
Well give the Republicans credit, they did find a TRILLION dollars to fight a war that had no clear mission, no definition of what constitutes victory, and has accomplished nothing other than create chaos in the middle east.
Who cares if the domestic economy has gone to hell? At least HALIBURTON and other defense contractors have recorded RECORD PROFITS under Republican leadership and I feel good about that. They deserve it.
The best part is, according to McSame and Bush, no one ever has to pay for their war. However, we may all be speaking Manderin in this coutry in a few years if it continues.

adam,
"Liberals talk about tax cut for 95% of Americans. Out of 95%, 40% do not pay Taxes. Out of Remaining 55% none of them generating Jobs. Only 5% Obama wants to increase taxes are generating Jobs."
Well, the republicans that were supposed to generate jobs did a poor job of it! They outsourced our jobs and demand additional H1Bs are imported. Pay the taxes you owe now for your greedy schemes. Your performance has been a joke. If you were truly in the best position to create jobs, you would have created them. Step aside now.
Obama/Biden 08!

they used these same arguments to get us into this whole and keep their tax burden only growing at half of the rate (just as it has for the last 40 years) redistributing that burden up...because of trickle down economics
guess what trickle down economics has had no effect in the long run on either direction of our economy.
it's a falisy.
all trickle down economics does is make sure the priority is on the rich
and not where our engine is
what they don't tell you is that is the middle class has more money to spend that creates more need for business and more spending.
it works both ways liars.

Seah apparently agrees with Bush and McSame that Reaganomics works. They think that if the rich are given tax cuts, they gladly pass on their savings to the middle class by raising wages, creating jobs, etc......
If you have looked at recent economic history, let's say the price of gasoline, does anyone find that to be true?
Exxon, who has recorded ALL TIME RECORD PROFITS for the last FOUR YEARS IN A ROW, has been given their tax cuts and various exemptions from the Bush economic policy.
And has the general public seen any benefit? Sure, $4.00/gallon at the pump, greater profit for he oil company, and the claim that they need more rights to drill (though the oil companies have leases on a land mass the size of two states that they haven't even touched yet).
Savings to the rich means more profit for the rich. That's it. That's all it does. It creates a greater disparity between the wealthy and the middle class.
McSame economic policy is exactly that -it's the McSame as Geroge Bush. Forgive me if I have yet to understand why anyone thinks that this policy has worked or will work in the future. EVERY SINGLE INDICATOR SHOWS IT FAILED MISERABLY!
Though McSame thinks the "fundimentals of the economy are strong", anyone with half a brain knows better. That may leave out many of those supporting McCain and the Pagent Princess though.

Obama only gives ideas.
His tax cuts and economy plan is only on a Federal Level.
The same plan Germany used.
How many times have your heard Obama say the states or local governments should do that.
Your federal "income" tax might not go up or be reduced a small amount. But be sure You will pay in some way. shape or form, probably more than you are now. In local, state and federal taxes, fees and new sales tax, etc.
If Mr Obama plans on Raising wealthy peoples "income tax" Business and industry's, Common sense and reality you have to put in effect here, with the fact you know the cost will be passed on to the consumer to recoop. You the consumer will pay more for everything.
Many business and industry will fold, collaspe or move out of the country.
If you take a momnet to pull your head out of the Obama Koolaid Cloud, you will realize the reality of it all is just bull to get elected. His plan will not help the country but, destory free enterprise and the country.
Voting for Obama all you will receive is a Hope and Pray. Can that sustain you through life?

For all the people who think Obama´s plan isn´t a good one: Do you think Bush´s was a good one? Trickle down economics hasn´t worked. We´re in the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression! Would you rather see your tax dollars going towards reconstructing Iraq (a war that should never have been waged in the first place) or being spent here at home for things like health care and shoring up our social security and infrastructure providing jobs? We don´t need McSame, the chameleon. Do you ask yourself why, suddenly, Bush finds 700 BILLION (nearly a TRILLION) dollars of OUR money to bail out Wall Street greed and could never find that money to provide health care, fix US infrastructure, and provide jobs? Corporate socialism at its finest. Time to give back to the people. Obama/Biden 2008.

don't ask what Obama will do for you. Ask yourself what you can do for Obama. Money! Money! Money!
Posted by: solardude3 | Sep 21, 2008 5:11:23 AM
But people, make no mistake.
everybody will see tax increased under Obama. People who think not, you are just buch of unrealists.
why the rech people should be only patriatic. All the poor one of us should be patriatic too.
the proportion will be different though, that's fair.
Paying a lot of taxes is inevitable. If we are going to save this country, and have decent health care, there is no other way.
Obama doesn't tell you that though. But you can see he is very talented at taking money out of people's pocket. You realize that right? Half billion for the campaign, what a shameless circus under the bad economy. Is the economy really bad?
Anyway, he is telling us he only gets money out of small pockets. but in reality, majority of his money comes from big riches, including FreddyMac, FennyMae and ethanol industry etc. He only tells you majority of his donors are small donors. Which is same to McCain.
Now he tells you he will only tax rich. Don't forget, he gets money for everyone and he is good at it.
And we should be all happy paying taxes. It's a civil duty, dude.
He tells you

I made $342k last year. Two questions: How much of my money do you think the government should forcibly confiscate to give to you. Why do you think you deserve any of my money?
Sincerely,
A Small Business Owner.

Zero-bama wants to tax the hell out of you, rich elitist. He considers it's your patriotic contribution to the society, feed the poor for the common good of our common welfare.
In fact, he really wants a great society in which everyone contributes at his ability and takes as much as his need. That way, there is no greed, no crime, no death penalty. Wait, did not a "great" philosopher said something like it? From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
- That's from Karl Marx on the fundamentals of Communism.

Just a minute McCain said the fundamentals of the economy are strong .Probably he was thinking about the family Business.

The last time that a President or a Presidential candidate in this country has brought such a pesmistic attitude into the general population, and fooled so many blind followers is, actually, now, by His Nothingness.
If you have nothing in your record, you scare your constituent to death.
I thought Americans are always optimistic to its future, even at the darkest moments. Yet, Zero-bama, being Nothingness, tells you there is nothing optimistic in this economy, and it is to sink to the bottom of the third world, if you do not vote for him. If you did vote for him, he promises to give you $1000 bucks, using his "reserve" from the sunk-to-bottom-economy.

Willem Van Oranje and the other usual suspects fully support Comrade Bidens's Patriotic Plan to justly redistribute the ill-gotten wealth of the Bourgeoisie to the noble Proletariat.
The sweat of the workers of the world must be protected from the evil, idle "fat cats" by such intelligentsia as Obama, and Biden, according to Willem.

dO -- you ask where is the money going to come from for Obama to keep his promises????
The Iraq War is currently costing 12 BILLION A MONTH.
He ends the war. You do the math.

Mr. swing,
Yeah.. That is what he promised you, wink wink. First, do you really think $12 billion will make a swing for his $1 trillion promise in 2009 and counting (just like he promised you to build 1 million hybrid plug-ins in the NEXT 10 YEARS to solve your long-term foreign oil dependency; currently, there are more than 250 million vehicles on the road)?
Secondly, in case, His Nothingness forgot to inform you blind followers, that $12 billion per month is BORROWED money, not even counted as Federal deficit, which His Nothingness voted for it. Ask him why did he vote for that $12 billion dollars? Just because he will tell you now he will stop spending it? Smart you-know-what.

Well, this white, middle class, Republican chooses a better government, with Obama. To whine about the color or sex of a politician, is so old. Come into the present, and look to the future. Vote for a Free America. Those voting McCain, are not voting for him, they are voting for his Far Right lobbiests. McCain has LOST TOUCH, with the middle Republicans.
Posted by: historyforgotten | Sep 21, 2008 4:15:29 AM
Nick, as a Republican, I understand investing in America, is worth it. Vote Independant if you must, but a Far Right Lobbiest vote, is like voting for Non-America. McCains 'quick buck' thinking, has already been used by lobbiests for more than 20 years, and has only cause economic harm, for a long run. McCain is letting his Tycoon ties to Bush, smear his name. Invest in America, vote Obama and Biden.

I think,
we should pay 40 % tax if we make less than 125,000.
we should pay 60 % tax if we make more than 125,000.
health insurance should be free for us making less than 125,000. those of us who make more than that can buy good health insurance by themselves.
housing should be all most to nothing.
education should be free, all levels.
child care should be provided by the goverment.
So, doesn't any one want to be my vice?
Posted by: solardude3 | Sep 21, 2008 4:08:00 AM
Who's the real racist? The 40% of whites who won't vote for a black man or the 98% of blacks who won't vote for a white man?
Posted by: Nick | Sep 21, 2008 4:06:00 AM
Obama's socialist agenda will doom us. The government can't take care of everyone who is helpless in this country. We are spending more on entitlement programs than we can afford and we'll be bankrupt and the Chinese will turn in their US treasury notes and our dollars will be like monopoly money.

I am suggesting changing the colors of the electoral map .From Red and Blue, to Black and White. Also I suggest Spanish language to be taught to kinder gardens with American / English like second choice. Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez like guests of Honor at the day when Obama sworn President.
That is no bad idea, is far better from have another 4 years of Bush administration with the puppet of the far right McCain as President .And then after he pass away have the Pit-bull with lipstick bombing Russia .
Why McCain can’t put together two sentences and Sarah Plain give only scripted interviews? That indicates mental constipation and final state of plain idiocy.
I don’t have any problem in characterizing McCain .He is a Republican! According to his own campaign, Republicans are corrupt and incompetent.
Obviously he has inside information!
OBAMA is Black but is your last hope!
Posted by: foreclosure | Sep 21, 2008 4:02:01 AM
Who is Obama fooling??? Taxing the 5% will only hurt job creation for the rest of us. When companies are taxed more, who do you think they will pass the cost to? DUH. That's liberal democrat economics for you.
