On Taxes, Obama Faces Air Assault
September 20, 2008 5:56 PM
This afternoon, as Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., addressed a rally in Jacksonville, Fla., a small airplane flew overhead pulling a banner that read, "Raising taxes is not patriotic."
The banner was in reference to comments made by Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., this week, to ABC News' Kate Snow about the Obama-Biden campaign's plan to raise taxes on those making more than $200,000 or $250,000 per couple.
"It's time to be patriotic, Kate," Biden said. "Time to jump in. Time to be part of the deal. Time to help get America out of the rut. And the way to do that is, they're still going to pay less taxes than they did under Reagan."
Obama told the Florida crowd of 12,000 today, "I will cut taxes. Don’t believe what those folks say. Don’t let them run the okey doke on you. You heard of the okey doke. Don’t let 'em bamboozle you. Don’t be hoodwinked. I will cut taxes, cut taxes for 95 percent of all working families."
Obama continued, playing off the crowd, saying "My opponent doesn’t want you to know this, but under my plan, tax rates will actually be less than they were under Ronald Reagan. If you make less than $250,000 a year – if you make less – that’s you? If you make less than a quarter million dollars a year – that’s you? – you will not see your taxes increase one single dime. Not one dime. In fact, I offer three times the tax relief for middle class families as Senator McCain does, because an economy like this, the last thing we should do is raise taxes on the middle class."
"So don’t believe those commercials," Obama concluded. "I’m a tax-cutter. I’m gonna put some money in your pockets so you can spend that money buying groceries and buying gas and you can help that small business."

Right Barry. 40% of tax fliers pay no taxes...they get money PAID to them because of tax credits.
Barry's ephemeral tax cut for 95% of Americans (ever wonder why he doesn't phrase it 95% of tax-payers?) will just re-distribute more money from tax-PAYERS pockets to NON-TAXPAYER pockets.
Why? Because the non-taxpayers are Barry's Base.

davei n lv,
"Clinton had an average unemployment rate of 5.85% with a high of 7.3%. Carter had an unemployment rate of over 12%. The Depression had unemployment rates of about 25%. We went from 5.8% to 6.1% unemployment. According to a few Dems, Depression here we come!"
Curious, did they count 20 hr/wk "jobs" as being employed back then? Do we now? Were employed H1B visa recipients included in the "employed" group back then? Are they now?
The only thing that is keeping the unemployment rate lower than they actually are is the new ways to "account" these numbers. Stats do indeed lie.

More about Shadow governer Todd Palin of Alaska-John Harris, the Republican speaker of the Alaska House, said he had never been called by the spouse of a governor, before the two calls he got from Todd Palin. One was to argue for moving the state capital to Anchorage. The other was to ask Harris to "keep an eye" on a key aide who had an affair with the wife of one of Todd's best friends.
What has happened to Alaskas crime reat, debt, and prices on rape kits. They sky-rocketed through her glass ceiling. Alaska needs help now. Do not let the Palins get away with fraud. Alaska is feeling the repercussions of Sarahs impact WITH coruption. SHE FAILED Alaska. Do not let her fail America. Let her respond to this.

"Foreign banks, which were initially excluded from the plan, lobbied successfully over the weekend to be able to sell the toxic U.S. mortgage debt owned by their American units to the Treasury, getting the same treatment as United States banks."
Republicans bail out the world and leave Americans broke..... that's 'reform' we can believe in.

Obama and McCain Tax Proposals
According to a new analysis by the Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution,...
Obama's plan gives the biggest cuts to those who make the least, ...
while McCain would give the largest cuts to the very wealthy.

Obama has said "those collecting dividends and receiving capital gains should pay the same taxes as any wage earner." That would be 38%.
He has also said the capital gains rate should be less than 28%.
In his interview with O'Reilly he said the capital gains rate would go from 15% to "no more than 20%".
In his interview with George Steph on ABC he wouldn't raise ANY tax while we're in a recession.
For some reason what Obama's been saying isn't showing up on his own website.
Is that because his advisors don't agree and won't go along with it, that he didn't REALLY mean what he says, or is he just changing faster than his web maintenace can keep up?

hippiechucker,
"Bottom line, folks....Obama wants to raise taxes, and he has too, not to help you and me, but to pay for nearly a trillion in new spending, to pay for pet liberal projects like universal child care for everyones children."
You can't be serious! Liberal pet projects? Republican Paulson's proposed welfare package for Wall Street pushes the national debt to approximately $12 TRILLION and he is demanding that no relief be granted for taxpayers.
Do you people watch the news?

davei n lv,
"Obama has recently stated in an interview on ABC "This Week" he would hold off on ALL tax increases, including those making $250k while we are in a recession. Why isn't anyone asking about the inconsistancy between what he says and what is on his website?
Why isn't anyone asking what effect this would have on the deficit and our total debt?"
Er.. maybe we're too busy asking the question WHY ARE WE IN A RECESSION HEADING TOWARDS A DEPRESSION??? Haven't you heard, the Republican leadership is asking for a bail-out of Wall Street!

McCain wants to tax your employer-paid health insurance. Basically, if your health insurance plan costs $11,000 a year, you may pay $3,000 of that and your employer may pay $8,000 of that.
The value of that health insurance, the $8,000, is not currently taxed. McCain wants to change the tax code so that it will be.

Giving tax cuts to the wealthy during a time of war is unpatriotic.
And those of you repeating the line that Obama voted 94 times to raise taxes, you obviously saw Palin on Hannity and are repeating the lie.
This accusation was debunked by Factcheckdotorg last JULY! Titled, "Tax Tally Trickery".

"How does adding more money for education as Obama wants to, help things?"
-----
It goes toward assuring that underclass kids -- miseducated on purpose -- will be made clueless about the world in which they actually live, and that ALL the candidates for national political office in the futute will come from private or Catholic prep schools.
As it is, the only presidential-ticket candidate who went to public school is Palin. A good reason to vote for her.

Handouts/Welfare/Reparations
Health Insurance even to illegal immigrants.
Obama has voted 94 times to raise taxes.
He has to raise taxes to fund his earmarks and handouts. Just look at his record.

Obama's claims that "you won't see your taxes increased a single dime" if you make less than 250k are laughable. Taxing business obviously results in higher costs for everyone. Example...Taxing oil companies more...does what...it increases their overhead...and if they have as a goal a 7% margin, then they raise the price of fuel.
The outrageous part of the Biden quote is that no mention is made of cutting spending!!!
Spending by our massive federal govt. is the problem, folks. Its system wide, too. We've got a Dept of Education that doesn't hire or fire teachers, or maintain schools...and it costs 18 billion a year. And private schools aren't under its jurisdiction, and do fine if not better.
Does the Dept of Agriculture grow food?
By the way, we've poured untold hundreds of BILLIONS into the dept of Education, only to generally see lower test scores year to year. How does adding more money for education as Obama wants to, help things?

I often wonder if we'd be seeing this much hatred of McCain from the left if he had switched parties like Kerry wanted him too, and he had seriously considered after his run-ins with Bush in 2000. To hear all of you talk, he's a Bircher.
Give me a break.
Bottom line, folks....Obama wants to raise taxes, and he has too, not to help you and me, but to pay for nearly a trillion in new spending, to pay for pet liberal projects like universal child care for everyones children.
In terms of the protectionist tone that alot of Obama folks take, its important to remember that after his blustering about repealing NAFTA, he sent an aide to privately tell the Canadians that its just election year bullcrap. Look it up...and then do some thinking. How will massive corporate taxes affect jobs....positively?
Those of you railing about jobs moving to China, need to understand that jobs are always on the move. Anybody who's been to the Northeast sees lots of empty factories, whose industry left for the South after the war....because the cost of doing business was CHEAPER.
The only way, the only certain way, to keep jobs is to reduce the burden on business to stop the flow of jobs elsewhere.
Turns out there's lots of Chinese out of work now, having lost their jobs to the Vietnamese. Get it?
Unless we're willing to completely turn over our businesses to the government, jobs will always come and go in a capitalist society, and Obama's taxes can only hasten that movement through his higher taxation.

Meanwhile, it's Palin who actually succeeded in transferring some ill-gotten corporate gains to the people of Alaska.

Something to be proud of.

meggie,
Small businesses have failed to hire people. I hope they make a law that says selling people's credit reports and girlie magazines from their basement does not constitute a business. These scam jobs must go because they have no intention of expanding their "businesses" and I'm tired of paying for your write-offs.
If you're small business material that can drive the economy, figure out how to expand your business and hire people. It defies common sense to say you cannot hire people because of a small tax imposition. To do so, one would have to completely disregard all the write-offs you get for employing people. To do so would say that you are only in business to avoid paying taxes.
