Out West, Obama Faces Gun Battle

September 15, 2008 10:26 PM

DENVER, Colo. -- Colorado is home to more than 100,000 dues-paying members of the National Rifle Association, all of whom should have received THIS MAILER sometime in the last week, which says he would be "the most anti-gun president in American history," and refers gun rights enthusiasts to the website GunBanObama.com.

Obama is aware of this of course, and he's on the radio airwaves out here -- as well as, according to readers of Ben Smith at Politico -- Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland. Virginia, Ohio, and New Hampshire.

The ad features former Washington Redskin Ray Schoenke, who helms the American Hunters and Shooters Association, which styles itself as a moderate alternative to the NRA, while the NRA deems it to be a bogus bunch of gun-grabbers.

"It's important to me that our next President protects our Second Amendment rights to own guns and defend ourselves," says Schoenke. "Barack Obama and John McCain will both make sure we can keep our guns. But what about keeping our jobs? Barack's got a real plan that invests in creating jobs here at home and cuts taxes a thousand bucks for working families. John McCain? I saw a lot of cheap shots in my day, but McCain's false attacks on Obama are just a fake to hide the ball. His plan sells out American workers. McCain will keep giving tax breaks to companies that ship our jobs overseas. And he'll look the other way while China breaks our trade deals. It's the same old Bush playbook. Look, when the coach loses eight years in a row, you don't bring him back for a ninth season! We just can't afford more of the same."

Listen to the ad HERE.

Obama's facing some tough skeptics out here, though, and comments like the ones he made in Duryea, Penn., earlier this month don't necessarily help.

"There’s rumors going around that you're going to take away the guns," said a hunter at a glass factory.

"I think this is a great question so I just want to clear it up," Obama said. "Because I know there are probably some sportsmen here in the audience. I believe in the Second Amendment, and if you are a law-abiding gun owner, you have nothing to fear from an Obama administration! I mean this has been this has been peddled again and again…

"I’ll be honest, and I’m sure there’s some NRA members here," Obama continued. "Their general attitude is 'Look, we don’t want anything, and if you even breathe the word "gun control" or "gun safety," then you must want to take away everybody’s guns.' Well, that’s just not true...

"The bottom line is this. If you’ve got a rifle, you’ve got a shotgun, you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it away. Alright? So they can keep on talking about it but this is just not true. And by the way, here’s another thing you’ve got to understand. Even if I wanted to take it away, I couldn’t get it done. I don’t have the votes in Congress."

That "I don't have the votes in Congress" line has ricocheted around the country…

If you read the constitution,it says nothing about hunting or sporting. The second ammendment is there for regular people to protect themselves from government(abolish it if needed-second paragraph in the declaration of independence). That tells us AR's,AK's,ect....are much needed incase of an emergency.I could go on for a couple hours but I type slow and mispell words.

In Heller v. DC there was a petition signed by politicians which urged the justices to rule that the 2nd A was an individual right. There was also another one which countered that. Guess which one Obama signed?

John McCain urged the justices to rule for individual right. As a legal gun-owner, this is not rocket science. Actions speak louder than words!

Obama is a good man but he is no friend of gun-owners.

So if he says I can't, I won't, I'm not...you won't believe him, because hey, he must be lying. And if he says 'and even if I wanted to, I couldn't because Congress would stop me', then that must mean that he IS going to. Okay. I see that now. He's lying, and whomever you elect to Congress, if they say they'll keep him from doing that, they must be lying, too.

I'm not going to rob your house tonight, incidentally. I have no plans to kick in your door and set fire to your couch. I won't steal your car. And even if I wanted to, the cops driving around would keep me from doing it.

Silly, right?

This is why gun people and non-gun people have so much trouble talking. Even the words mean different things.

Howdy from Illinois,

If Mr. Obama is for gun ownership, then why pray tell is Illinois still without CCW? There are 2 states without CCW-Wisconsin & Illinois! Mr Obama has not introduced any bills in the senate. He has no record, other than to march-step with Democrats gun grabbing schemes.

On the other hand, Governor Palin has eliminated waste in government in Alaska. Selling the Jet on E-bay-Good show. Her words to the Alaska Senate was "I'm here to provide Adult Supervision for you!" Good show Madam Governor, You have my vote. Please start with my 2 Senators

To Scary Very Scary,

I think I would be crapping in my pants, if I thought I could buffalo the USA into anything that Mrs. Palin chaired. She is a stand up Lady, who gets things done, not like the wishy-washy tuck your tail and run Obama.

I wonder why no one seems to notice that Obama seems to always talk about sportsmen and guns together? I don't have to be a sportsman to own a or need a gun. To infer that the 2nd amendment has hunting/sport in mind is to not understand what the bill of rights and constitution are all about

Amy T. said:
"Anyone who has ever been held up at gunpoint understands why gun control is essential in our nation.

Anyone who has ever lost a child to a stray bullet in their neighborhood understands why gun control is essential in our nation.

Anyone who has buried a teacher, killed in a school shooting, understands why gun control is essential in our nation.

Anyone who has read a news story of a child killed by a sibling, because they got their hands on a parent's improperly stored firearm, understands why gun control is essential in our nation.

-----------

Anyone who's done or read peer-reviewed research into the effectiveness of gun-control and the benefits of gun-ownership understands the false premise of outlawing a defensive tool to inhibit the behavior of outlaws.

Such a person also recognizes the idiocy of banning categories of firearms deemed "especially dangerous" when there is a proven substitution effect among criminals nullifying any theoretical benefit.

Anyone who applies logic to their world recognizes that a gun-ban is useless in a country with HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of guns in circulation which is not a police state with a collectivist national philosophy and homogeneous cultural makeup sufficient to facilitate willing and complete confiscation even from previously law-abiding citizens.

Anyone who's experienced the scenarios described by Amy T. in a jurisdiction such as Chicago or DC or NYC, and actually has knowledge of gun laws where they live, UNDERSTANDS THAT GUN CONTROL IS WORTHLESS!

This is not a black and white issue... it's a right and wrong issue, an informed and ignorant issue, a rational and irrational issue, a policy and rhetoric issue, a truth and lies issue, a rights and repression issue, a self-defense and surrender issue, a life and death issue.

The National Rifle Association has listed and documented the anti-gun people who founded the American Hunters and Shooters Association. This organization IS a front for the gun grabbers. If the reporter would contact NRA they can supply him with the names and histories of the individuals involved. For a highroll financier of OBAMA check out GEORGE SOROS, a Hungarian gentleman, who has funneled perhaps 50 million dollars into American anti-gun organizations.
He uses his vast wealth, see the currency collapses in South East Asia which he profited off of, to destroy our 2nd Amendment rights.

Here is the kicker, ready? He said if you have a RIFLE, SHOTGUN, GUN in your house, I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT AWAY. He never mentioned HANDGUN, and for a reason. He has been quoted in the last couple years as saying (IF IT WAS UP TO ME I WOULD "BAN" ALL FIREARMS EXCEPT FOR A PUMP SHOTGUN! Now wake up everybody, this guy is a MAJOR DANGER! VERY VERY SCARY!

The writer of this article is surprised that people are not fooled by obama's "support" for the 2nd amendment?

He is supported by Ray Schoenke, who helms the American Hunters and Shooters Association. It's board members consist of gun banners from several gun ban lobbying groups.

The writer supposedly follows politics, but does not mention that obama was on the board of the joyce foundation, that funds groups that push for laws banning guns.

He does not seem to be familiar with obama's voting record, supporting every gun ban bill. He was in full support of DC's gun ban. Being from Chicago, he supports all gun bans affecting law abiding citizens, but has not supported any bills on enhanced penalties for armed gang members!

When teaching law, obama said the 2nd amendment refers to militias such as government forces like the national guard, and does not protect the rights of the citizens, like the rest of the amendments are intended to do.

So where in obama's career has he shown support for the 2nd amendment? His record shows constant attempts at infringing on citizen's rights, only his teleprompter says otherwise.

Why is the media showing this bias for obama?

Do we want more corrupt chicago politics?

I will be voting against osama biden laden

First off, I'm not all that certain that Mr. Tapper should be reporting on this subject given that he used to be the spokesman for the Brady Campaign, formerly known as Handgun Control,
INC. I'm not sure that he can be
objective about the issue.

Secondly, I don't trust Obama's bona
fides on the gun issue and I
definitely don't trust Biden's given
that he's never seen a gun
confiscation bill that he didn't
absolutely love.

Here's the thing that the gun
grabbers miss. Those of us who own
guns, especially those that are
military pattern weapons, tend to
be law abiding. Demanding that we
be disarmed because we can't be
trusted is tantamount to calling us
all criminals. I'm not going to vote
for somebody who's starting position
is that.

I might have given Obama some
consideration until he chose Biden
as his running mate. That told me
all that I need to know.

To all those pro-gun control folks posting on this thread: You make a lot of references to other countries that have less gun crime. Sure, they might have less gun crime, but they have much, much more government-perpetrated crimes than the US. Many people are murdered by their own governments EACH DAY because they don't have the means to defend themselves.

In the US, crime is perpetrated mostly by gangsters, gangster wannabes, and other lowlifes. In the "other" countries with "less gun crime", crime is perpertrated by the government.

So, I rather keep my freedom rather than relying upon some socialist/egalitarian garbage to "defend" me.

Most gun owners in the US are law abiding citizens and the most friendliest and kindest people you will meet. Those people who commit crimes with guns are not gun owners. They are simply criminals, using guns as an easy way out.

Don't try to distort history, gun-banners. You all know the truth. Just go research, how many people have been jailed, tortured, and killed by their own oppressive governments in the last 100 years alone?

Said by ...: "No one wants to take away your guns. No One! If you are a law abiding citizen so why the fight...?"

Really?!?!? Where have you been lately:

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., on CBS "60 Minutes": "If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them -- Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in -- I would have done it."

Sounds like she wants to take my firearms away from me.

Posted by: Aardvark | Sep 16, 2008 7:56:24 PM

Actually, mec .. The vote was 9-0 that the Second Amendment protects a natural individual right that pre-exists the Constitution. It was 5-4 that said the government cannot limit that right to military service. Go figure?

Well now there is a comment I love to see "Quit frankly the thought of Ms. Palin sitting across the table from the likes of a Mahmoud Ahmadinejad chills me to the bone."

Now go get yourself a nice warm coat because your going to need it.

Obama has said that people should not be permitted to own guns. He supported the Chicago gun ban, he supported the D.C. gun ban. Now he wants us to believe that he's changed his mind? When Obama says he supports the Second Amendment he's lying.

Posted by: EyeDoc | Sep 16, 2008 2:16:21 PM

I get a kick out of the pro-Obama astroturfing that is going on here. Their posts are like T Ball to the majority of posters here.

Heller 5-4, that's all there is to it. No way Obama is going to appoint someone who won't make that 4-5, or 3-6.

"Ms. Palin could in deed become the President Of The United States
Scary Very Scary" Think of how we feel about three years out of the Illinois State Senate Obama, and he will take over from day one. This is a pretty poor argument for you. You have to believe it before you hear it in order to buy it.

Obama says he would not have appointed Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court but would have appointed all of the leftist jurists who voted that the Second Amendment was a collective right rather than an individual one.
If Obama has his way, the next court will make the Second Amendment a dead letter.
Joe Biden is an anti-gun activist. He was a major supporter of the Clinton Anti-Gun agenda and did his very best (which is never very good) to keep Clarence Thomas off the Court.

The "American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA)" is a fake organization. It is actually led by gun control advocates who just happen themselves to do some occasional hunting now and then. It was created by Democrats as a cynical attempt to lie about being pro-gun.

Ray Schoenke has personally donated money to Handgun Control, Inc. and to the Brady Campaign.

Jon Rosenthal founded Stop Handgun Violence in Massachusetts. When this was pointed out, Rosenthal was forced to resign from AHSA.

"gun control" disarms innocent Americans...this allows the criminals to rampage. To lower crime, stop committing treason against the oath of office, and cease the infringements against our right to keep and bear arms. Then, arrest, prosecute and PUNISH the criminals. Liberals are hysterical and confused about the distinction between guilt and innocence.... unborn babies are innocent. People who criminally fire guns are not innocent. Abort the criminals, not the babies, problem solved. (ps: traitors who write & vote for gun control are criminals!!)

Posted by: ralpherus | Sep 16, 2008 1:13:35 PM

Remember, Obama was FOR the DC handgun ban BEFORE he was against it (i.e., after the Supreme Court's decision).

Also, Captain Constitutional Law said at Rick Warren's Saddleback Church last month that he would not appoint Justices like Scalia, Alito, Roberts, and Thomas (i.e., the MAJORITY in the Heller gun ban decision).

Further, Obama said a debate with Hillary that he is in favor of re-instituting Bill Clinton's so called "Assault Weapon Ban."

Obama is NOT gun friendly and, in fact, on this issue he is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

WAKE UP AMERICA! NOBAMA is a fake on this issue and does want to take your guns...

Posted by: Aaron Burr | Sep 16, 2008 1:11:09 PM

During the primaries, Obama tried to hide behind vague statements of support for “sportsmen” or unfounded claims of general support for the right to keep and bear arms.

But his real record, based on votes taken, political associations, and long standing positions, shows that Barack Obama is a serious threat to Second Amendment liberties. Don’t listen to his campaign rhetoric! Look instead to what he has said and done during his entire political career.

For a fully reseached and CITED view on where Barry's TRUE postion is on guns go here:

Posted by: jack burton | Sep 16, 2008 12:48:16 PM

And one other thing...minimizing gun crime is related to increasing earning power of ordinary citizens...They are inversely related. As more Americans can find jobs and less families struggling, there will be less gangs and less gun violence. Americans turn to the streets just like those in other countries and fight because they feel they have no other choice. If Iraq provides jobs to its people, less will be able to recuit to extremist campaigns.

Posted by: ... | Sep 16, 2008 12:45:05 PM

He has stated over and over. There must be a way to protect the rights of law abiding gun owners and still keep semi-automatic weapons out of the hands of criminals. So guys, yes, let's me licensed, yes let's minimize the sale of AK-47s and keep track of who's buying them. This doesn't mean that you can't get it. It's like Advil cold and sinus being behind the pharmacy counter. Yeah its annoying have to sign it out but at least it prevents young kids from making more meth (drugs). No one wants to take away your guns. No One! If you are a law abiding citizen so why the fight...?

Posted by: ... | Sep 16, 2008 12:41:11 PM

IF I actually believed Obama and the Democrats were going to deliver on their promises of creating jobs and improving the economy, it would be very difficult to vote against them even though I have no doubt that they will try to trash the 2nd Amendment. However the pattern of behavior for the Democrats is to give american labor lip service during the campaign and forget about them afterwards.
I cannot vote for the Republicans because of their 'give everything to the wealthy' policies. The trickle down theory has failed. Wealth has not trickled down; poverty is trickling up. The destruction of the consuming power of American labor is the underlying cause of our current economic meltdown.
Since I cannot vote for the Democrats or the Republicans, I've got 49 days to decide between the Greens and the Libertarians. Maybe I'll write in a vote for Paris Hilton; I doubt even she could be worse than either of the Repucrats.

"The GOA report of the 106th Congress reveals that out of 15 votes relating to the right to keep and bear arms, Senator John McCain voted favorably only 4 times. Put that into a percentage and McCain's pro-Second Amendment voting record is a pathetic 27%."

Posted by: Skip | Sep 16, 2008 12:13:10 PM

In the US Senate, Obama voted for a particular amendment offered by Sen. Kennedy that would have banned most rifle ammunition used for sport and hunting. With a few exceptions, the entire democratic party is hostile to gun owners.

The Judges that Obama would appoint would take away our guns, or rubber stamp all sorts of restrictions.

Posted by: JM | Sep 16, 2008 11:56:33 AM

I know Obama claims he is not going to take away our firearms yet he is on the record time and time again saying he will ban the types of legal firearms I have. Therefore, no matter what he says to the people at the rallies, his official position statements and the Democratic Party platform say otherwise.

BTW, more people have died in Ted Kennedy's back seat than from my firearms.

Posted by: Aardvark | Sep 16, 2008 11:31:06 AM

Obama has said that voters need not fear he will take voters guns away. But will he allow or encourage other levels of government to take our guns away? Will he pass laws preventing us from buying new ones? Will he try to prevent us from having guns on-hand when we need them, e.g. when a mugger or car-jacker threatens our lives while demanding our property? Will he appoint judges who want to allow the government to do the above? Will he give money to university professors to generate gun-control propaganda posing as "research"? Will he allow our U.N. representative to sign a treaty that obligates our government to register firearms? Will he allow the government to discriminate between private citizens and civilian police officers with respect to the kinds of firearms we are allowed to use? Will he treat the privacy of my gun ownership with the same respect that he treats the privacy of a person's library book check-out records?

These are the questions which make me worry about an Obama victory. Unfortunately, no one in his campaign has tried to reassure me about these specific issues.

Posted by: fsilber | Sep 16, 2008 11:17:58 AM

Obama is the most ant-gun politician ever to vote. There is no anti-gun bill he has not voted for. He is the most left wing liberal in the Senate and c an be identified as a Marxist. Look up his record. He comes from Chicago corrupt politics where guns have been banned for years making citizens of this great city unable to defend themselves. No free citizen should vote for this Socialist/Marxist.

Posted by: Rich | Sep 16, 2008 10:46:17 AM

Gun control isn't really about guns. It's about CONTROL. Take away the ability to protect themselves and that makes us totally dependant on a police force that has no responsibility for protecting us(Gonsales Vs. Castle Rock). A mother's children went missing from her home. She had a restraining order against her ex-husband. She went to the local Police who did NOTHING to look for them or try to locate her ex husband. The ex turned up at the local police department early the next morning with the bodies of her little girls in the trunk and opened fire on the station. Despite the fact the man was violent, had firearms, had threatened the woman and her children the cops failed to do a DAMNED thing and were deemed not responsible for their lack of action by the US Supreme Court.
Why CAN'T people get that?

Obama votes with Democrats 98% of the time.

Agreeing with Pelosi, Reid, Dean...sorry but I don't find that very comforting.

Obama will not only be the abortion president--he'll be the anti-gun president.

Posted by: harry | Sep 16, 2008 9:58:03 AM

Both Obama and Biden have a very clear anti-gun record. Perhaps they don't want to take the rifles from MY gun cabinet. But they want to make sure from their presidency forward no private citizens can buy any new modern rifles or shotguns. How is that any different? It's not, it's a ban, and it's anti-gun.

And as for "American Hunters and Shooters Association", they are indeed anti-gun. They wan't all .50 BMG rifles banned/confiscated from private citizens, whether there was any crime or not, whether there was any risk or not.

Posted by: nai | Sep 16, 2008 9:46:22 AM

To anyone that thinks Obama does not have the votes to take your guns. The DC hand gun case was decided by a 5-4 vote. One judge voting the other way and the right of AMericians to own and keep guns would be gone. The Senate confirms judges. The Senate is democratic controlled. If Obama nominates a gun control judge he will be confirmed. Then the next gun control case to come before the court will be decided in favor of gun control. Obama has the votes he needs to take guns away. Saying he doesn't is a lie.

When Governor Palin levied additional taxes on Big Oil in Alaska, do you think Big Oil ate this additional expense and just took less profit, or did they pass on the expense to the rest of Americans in higher costs for energy?

Who pays for Alaskans rebates?

WE DO. Palin might have been good for Alaska...they love her as she found a way to save them money and stick it to the rest of us in the Lower 49! But, her policies are not good for ALL Americans.

Gov Palin knows how to make a deal. She went to the table with Big Oil then sent the proceeds of her deal making to the citizens of Alaska.

There is no difference in business deal making than in political deal making. The same rules.

So far, Gov Palin has been accused of being an adulteress, her daughter has been accused of being a whu re, she has been accused of being a bad mother, burning books and on and on.

How old are the Koran and the Bible with their emphasis on women's "roles" and "sins"? Why digress?

Why did the liberals revert to religious fundementalism (which is the very thing they have professed to abhor) when a woman is running for political office? Liberals have you considered that your party would not even allow a woman to be considered for VP?

I suggest with the false moral charges and attacks for being in the work force brought against Gov Palin that the Democratic party has taken a stand against itself.

Posted by: edwin | Sep 16, 2008 5:57:42 AM

FactOid, thanks for your 10:46:08 PM post. I now know Obama will very happily take away my handgun. That's what happens when I give a smooth-talking flimflam man the benefit of the doubt by not reading closely enough between the lines of his "nuanced" statements about rifles and shotguns!

Posted by: marylou | Sep 16, 2008 5:44:20 AM

Before getting to the punchline, I had already determined that Obama probably wants a ban on assault weapons - "If you've got a rifle in your home... I'm not taking that away". And there's an argument to be made for that.

But the "I don't have enough votes" statement and Obama's zigzagging on issues to score the Presidential touchdown (from his uber-left primary stance to his mainstream middle-of-the-road stance now) gives gun owners have good reason to be wary of Obama.

Posted by: marylou | Sep 16, 2008 5:39:29 AM

If Obama thinks recycling stale Kessler/Third Way talking points and hiding behind an astro-turf group like AHSA will fool anyone than it's Obama who is the fool. Trying to con gun-owners didn't work for Kerry in 2004 and the same gambit won't work for Obama in 2008.

The fact is Obama will take guns away; it's right there in the 2008 Democratic Party platform, a promise to ban so-called "assault weapons". Despite the news media's continued incapacity to accurately report on the "assault-weapon" issue (regardless of almost two decades of hot debate), the average gun owner is wise to the facts and knows what an Obama presidency would bring. That's why there is a surge in firearms sales this year.

The free marketplace is already voting, and when it comes to guns the vote is against Obama.

I don't know about you but that sounds an awful lot like slavery.

I haven't commented on immigration yet tonight MM. That's another topic.

Kitty

No, those people need to get a job. that is not slavery. There not working, their getting paid to do nothing but take up space. Welfare is meant to be a safety net, but people take advantage of it. Illegal Immigration is the only form of slave labor in this country.

Posted by: MM | Sep 16, 2008 1:14:00 AM

MM, Hillary flip flopped first. Then Obama did. He was so crafty about it you didn't ewven know.

Posted by: Kitty | Sep 16, 2008 1:13:05 AM

Kitty

Sometimes things are not as clear as they appear to be. Republicans are not going to fix immigration because that will cut off a form of slave labor. That border is meaningless if all their going to do is go around it. The terrorist came in through Canada but we don't hear about a fence in Minnesota.

Posted by: MM | Sep 16, 2008 1:11:58 AM

MM, it's the dependancy on welfare that is the slavery. everything revolves around "when i get my check".

Posted by: Kitty | Sep 16, 2008 1:11:34 AM

Kitty

Hillary flip-floped on Michigan and Florida not the other way around.

Posted by: MM | Sep 16, 2008 1:09:14 AM

MM. it's not the first ime I haven't gotten you. What was your point?

Posted by: Kitty | Sep 16, 2008 1:08:25 AM

tim

Welfare is not slavery, because it doesn't force work. Welfare's real purpose is to be a safety net to keep retention in the workforce. The closest thing we have to slavery in America is actually illegal immigration. The government needs to crack down on companies hiring illegals and stop that form a slavery. Illegal immigrants barely get enough to live. Plus they pay taxes, that is right they pay sales tax, and don't get protection under the law. But they come here anyway because it is a lot better then where they came from.

Posted by: MM | Sep 16, 2008 1:07:39 AM

MM, Obama's flip flop on the MI and Fl votes wasn't crafty. It was manipulative.

Posted by: Kitty | Sep 16, 2008 1:06:27 AM

mm...

beleive me on this one. its the one area that i know alot about and see it first hand everyday of my life. welfare is the single biggest factor of the problems in the inner city black communities. it is a generational "disease" that the government keeps putting a band aid on. im not saying hat its the only problem, but it all stems around it. it is a dependency, plain and simple! i wish i had more time to explain this, but its a conversation for another time.

Posted by: tim | Sep 16, 2008 1:05:11 AM

MM, how do you overcome black poverty mindset?

Posted by: Kitty | Sep 16, 2008 1:04:12 AM

Kitty

Nope you have to experience it. The black people who make it out don't go back, not even those gangster rappers. You can tell a fake gangster rapper because he always tries go back to the ghetto. Most black people who grow up in the environment know the ultimate goal is to get out before you become indoctrinated.

This gun issue is such a joke. No President is going to reverse a constitutional amendment! And surely not one who taught constitutional law (Obama, that is).

My Dad was a hunter. I've never touched a gun in my life. I do want people to protect themselves but AK-47s? We have to put some common sense back into this argument. It shouldn't be all or nothing on guns.

there have ALWAYS been more "working poor" than unemployed poor. first off, other major, developed countries would LOVE to have our unemployment rate. im not saying that i like that when it goes up either, but thats what the market does. bottom line is that welfare helps about 20 to 25 percent of the people that use it. and thats being pretty generous. welfar is slavery. thats what the democrats thrive on. dependency in the form of welfare and all other entitlement programs. its all about getting votes, and democrats have gotten the black vote consistently for decades. do you think this a coincidence?!

Posted by: tim | Sep 16, 2008 1:01:05 AM

Kitty

McCain is manipulative. Obama is crafty. He knows the system and finds it easier to win if more people voted because more people agree with democrats on a lot of issues. McCain sells you straight talk express then blatantly lies about Obama's record. How is McCain not manipulative?

By the way, you completely miss my point. Tim got it.

Posted by: MM | Sep 16, 2008 1:01:01 AM

MM, can you elaborate on that? i am genuinely curious about black poverty as a mindset. can i google this?

It is fair to want him to prove it more and not agree on policy, but I think it is unfair to say he hasn't made any decisions. He didn't just pop out of nowhere and ended up in the United States Senate. He is very accomplished for where he is right now. Remember he technically has more experience then the Republican President Lincoln.

Posted by: MM | Sep 16, 2008 12:58:15 AM

MM, I'll give you that. he's crafty and manipulative. it's probably one of the reasons mccain is doing so well in this climate. what you find appealing, others find appalling. and those people can't wait to pull the lever at the polls, too.

Posted by: Kitty | Sep 16, 2008 12:55:03 AM

mm..

well i just dont believe that. listen, barack obama is a GREAT politcian in that he speaks well... lol and thats why he is where he is today. when you're running for president on the record and experience he has, its ALL TALK.now im not saying he wouldnt do all the things he says if he got into office, maybe he would. but first off, i want him to PROVE himself a little more, and secondly, i dont agree with anything he says on the issues. its hard to get blamed for decisions when you havent made any.

Kitty

Get real, people are working and getting paid not nearly enough to survive an economic crisis. Trust me there are more working poor then there are unemployed poor. I also don't think that unemployment increased because more people got lazy.

Posted by: MM | Sep 16, 2008 12:52:57 AM

tim

He doesn't lie to us as much as other politicians normally do. That why it is so hard for him to go on the attack. Obama is more crafty then he is a lier. The registering new voters is one way that proves this. He tips the scale in his favor by adding more people to the field to vote for him. He realizes how small margins are and build is organization on getting out the vote of new people. You don't have to lie when you do this.

Posted by: MM | Sep 16, 2008 12:50:28 AM

MM, you just keep telling yourself that. half the population where i live is living in poverty. they literally live government check to government check. i'm not mad at them for it, i feel sorry for them fo rit, and wish there was a way to help them out of the dependancy. giving them money isn't the answer long term, and i do resent it when people buy potato chips with EBT cards.

Posted by: Kitty | Sep 16, 2008 12:50:10 AM

MM, either everybody gets a mandate or nobody gets it. i prefer nobody.. obama's version is the equivalent of a "present" vote. unless you are a parent. then it's a mandated law focused on you. he needs to grow a spine on this one and decide whether he's for it or agianst it. don't get me started, i have to sleep.

Posted by: Kitty | Sep 16, 2008 12:46:42 AM

mm...

you said you felt obama is more honest? what do you mean by that then?

Posted by: tim | Sep 16, 2008 12:45:12 AM

well i wasnt exactly talking about bills he had a part in, though i know there are more than what you listed, but how about the global warming fallicy he is falling for?! amnesty for illegals? border control? these are all HUGE issues that mccain is weak on. he sides with more democrats than republicans. very, very weak.

I didn't bring scandals, you brought up scandals.

Posted by: MM | Sep 16, 2008 12:43:34 AM

Obama is more moderate then Hillary was. Hillary wanted to mandate Healthcare, Obama only wanted children mandated. Voting for veterans health care benefits is considered liberal. That is something that should be considered bipartisan. Republicans just call him liberal.

Posted by: MM | Sep 16, 2008 12:42:10 AM

MM

simply said, obama has only been in washington 3 years!!!! how many scandals can he possibly be involved with in that short of time?! all his scandals were from before he got in washington. if you are in washington long enough, you will have scandals whether they are true or not. you create alot of enemies just by going to washington. if obama loses this time and runs again in 2012, he will have a much harder time because he will have that many more "Scandals". thats just common sense.

Obama-Coburn, Transparency Act that established USAspending.gov,

McCain's earmark record is irrefutable. McCain's veterans voting records is irrefutable. McCain's did do McCAin-Feingold but I can't recite anything pass that. Voting with Bush approximately 90% (fact) is not bipartisan.
