Palin-drome

September 24, 2008 6:48 AM

"What is the McCain camp hiding?" asks Jeffrey Goldberg.

"If Sarah Palin becomes vice president, she will presumably have meetings with people who are scarier than Michael Cooper, the Times reporter who seems to have the misfortune of covering her today. I know Michael Cooper; he's a good reporter, but not very mean at all. So, why would the McCain campaign want to keep him -- and other print reporters -- from watching Sarah Palin shake hands with Hamid Karzai, who is also, by the way, a very nice person? What will happen, God forbid, if Sarah Palin is forced into a position where she will have to meet someone who is not so nice? Such as, say, the prime minister of Spain?"

CNN's Campbell Brown says she's had it with the sexist, chauvinistic treatment of Sarah Palin -- by the McCain campaign, which refuses to let Palin talk to the media, since they are apparently terrified she won't be able to handle it.

"Stop treating Sarah Palin like she is a delicate flower that will wilt at any moment," Brown said. "Sarah Palin has just as much a right to be treated like a real candidate as the men do."

if she can't even handle talking to the press corps, how could you argue that she's qualified to be one heartbeat away from the presidency?

telling the truth is easy lieing now thats work you need to remember all you have devulged so your not caught in the lie one needs to make sure you've been consistant that takes scripting and one must study the script religiously(ha)this all takes a considerable amount of time the one thing mccain and palin do not have so please be patient you can't expect a senile old womanizer and a person who truly believes the earth is only 6000 years old dispite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary to be able to clear thier minds of a lifetime of republican't propaganda in a few short weeks...but i'm sure it's going to be very entertaining. yeaaa i can't wait

Mrs Palin, as even right-wing America is now admitting, is like a helium balloon: sparkly, shiny, able to fly high for a couple of days -- but essentially empty.

They are keeping her in a shroud for fear that she will reveal just how monumentally unqualified she is to become President -- which is, after all, the Vice-President's only real job.

In my life I have never seen anyone so hidden from the media, unscripted questions, and public scrutiny as Mrs Palin. Even Dan Quayle, another disastrous choice, was allowed out more often -- and that is saying a good deal.

"And why is this different than Obama hiding from the press when he toured the middle east?"

Huh? What you are saying is totally irrelevant and BS to boot. Take off the blinders before opening your mouth next time.

And why is this different than Obama hiding from the press when he toured the middle east?

McCain seemed to be a reasonable Presidential candidate a year ago, but now it has become clear that he is not only sexist in his treatment of Palin (let her speak for goodness sake!), but by moving from moderate to neocon. He may have picked up more of the far-right constituents, but it is at the price of sacrificing us moderate voters.

Amen to that Campbell Brown!

Palin should not be treated any differently than the other candidates.

John McCain wants to postpone Friday’s Presidential debate because “our economy is in crisis.” Ya right last week he said the economy was fundamentally strong.

This is one of the nastiest and most cynical political stunts/trick ever attempted in American political history.

Despicable and shameless act from McCain hope the media gives him hell for this cheap trick. Imagine if Obama had tried this!

Posted by: jason | Sep 24, 2008 5:21:44 PM

Let's be real, we can't blame McCain for being as scared of Obama as all the rest of us are, even if he is a war hero. Obama is smart and popular and cool under fire. But the most terrifying thing of all is that he's not a good ol' boy. We're desperately hoping this strategy of keeping the Palin/McCain ticket shielded from the press as much as possible will conceal their obvious weaknesses long enough that the fear of Obama will carry them through to victory. We're really afraid it's their only hope...

She refuses to talk to the media and now McCain is running away from the debate. All they can do is run a negative campaign with ads that blatantly lie!

Posted by: Donna P | Sep 24, 2008 4:49:01 PM

Its not being sexist, the Republicans are just scared the truth will come out, she is not experienced, she lies a lot about troopergate/the bridge/earmarks. She appointed her high school friends who like her had zero experience to top jobs in Alaska. She has no clue about the economy or about foreign policy, all she knows is to make babies and shoot wolves from helicopters

Why on earth should McCain trust the mainline press with anything or anyone? They were blantantly biased - and sexist - against Hillary and now they COMPLETLY IGNORE certain stories ALREADY related to Palin. Why aren't the following stories headlined as "Top News" by the mainline press today?:

*All signs point to state Dem. rep’s son as Palin ‘hacker’ - State Rep. Mike Kernell confirmed Thursday that his son, a University of Tennessee-Knoxville student, is at the center of heated Internet discussion into the hacking of the personal e-mail of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin

*Tenn. Dem. Steve Cohen: Jesus was a community organizer and Palin is Pontinus Pilate: the governor who killed Jesus!!

*Greta Interviews the "First Dude" (Todd Palin)

Have you even heard of any of these stories yet????? Why should McCain - or any of us - trust such selective, biased, pro-Obama reporting?????

Posted by: gaypastor | Sep 24, 2008 3:37:32 PM

"Charlie Gibson (check), Sean Hannity (check), Katie Couric (check)"

Wow 3 whole interviews over the course of 3 weeks.

McCain and Obama did that many interviews yesterday.

If she can't handle reporters how will she handle...anything?

"Nor did you quote Sen. Obama as having denied that he was ever a member of the CPUSA."

Wow James Danley just had a flashback to McCarthy.

Posted by: Ryan C | Sep 24, 2008 1:34:53 PM

They know she is a loose canon as well as not quialified and they are doing everything they can to hide her from the press. The press would ask quickly skilled questions she would stumble to answer.

The truth, thanks to our wonderfull press and media, WILL come out.

Posted by: Ranger Phx | Sep 24, 2008 1:34:40 PM

Question, I notice that you failed to quote Sen. Obama as having denied that he was ever recruited by Frank Marshall Davis. Nor did you quote Sen. Obama as having denied that he was ever a member of the CPUSA.

The facts are: (1) Frank Marshall Davis was a member and a recruiter of the CPUSA; (2) Sen. Obama has acknowledged that Frank Marshall Davis (although Obama only names him "Frank" in his book) was a father figure and a mentor; (3) Saul Alinsky was a communist; (4) Sen. Obama studied under the principles of Saul Alinsky; (5) Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr is a Black Liberation Theologist; (6) Sen. Obama acknowledges that he was a member of Rev. Wright's church for 20 years, and says that Rev. Wright was his mentor.

America do your homework. Google "CPUSA" and see what they believe (and compare that to Sen. Obama's rhetoric). Google "Saul Alinsky" and see what his principles are (and compare them to what Sen. Obama says and does). Google "Black Liberation Theology" and see what they espouse (and then determine for yourself whether a man can sit there for 20 years and not hold some of these beliefs as his own).

MEMO TO Campbell Brown:

We don't want you guys interview her. The only reason for your accusation is because you want to bring PALIN down and muddy her ...shame on you. We know enough about Sarah and like her ...LEAVE HER ALONE. You evil media.

James Danley,

Your post shows exactly what is not so right about present day American thought.

It is a great, great shame that people in America (land of the free and home of the brave) are being alienated for IDEAS.

Your way of calling out "anti-Americans and anti-Capitalists" sounds eerily like the great INQUISITION when people were persecuted under outrageous charges. Capitalism is not the alpha and omega of how-to-run-this-world. It is a human-made idea just like communism is and, believe it or not, they both have their goods and ills.

Don't go down the dangerous road of adhering to just one idea or one way of thought. That, in case you haven't noticed, is how extremism is born. It behooves you (especially as an American) to think critically about these generic terms before traveling down that path when the rest of the world is actually catching up to the notion that the my-way-or-the-high-way way of life doesn't pay well.

Posted by: Question | Sep 24, 2008 12:30:13 PM

Of course I meant, Frank Marshall Davis!

Posted by: James Danley | Sep 24, 2008 12:17:40 PM

historyforgotten, but Sen. Obama has yet to clarify whether Frank Davis Marshall ever recruited him; or even whether he was ever a member of the CPUSA. And the mainstream media won't ask him those questions.

If we really are dealing with "birds of a feather flock together," then doesn't the American electorate have a right to know? I don't believe that the majority of the American electorate wants an anti-America, anti-capitalist president.
