Palin's Private E-mails Hacked, McCain Campaign Shocked

September 17, 2008 6:13 PM

As Gawker reports, the private yahoo e-mails accounts of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin have been hacked.

“This is a shocking invasion of the governor’s privacy and a violation of the law,” said McCain campaign manager Rick Davis in a statement. "The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these e-mails will destroy them. We will have no further comment."

As we covered yesterday, Palin has used her private e-mail account to conduct official business and, like members of the Bush administration before her, has attempted to use this as a way to avoid the very transparency she pledged would mark her gubernatorial term.

Obama, what do you think of all of this?

"Present."

Posted by: Joe | Sep 18, 2008 11:13:41 AM

" think you didn't make the best choice of running mate given the negative attention she's garnering."

If McCain was running with Jesus, there would be negative attention. Look at what Obama's crew did with those buttons. Palin is a good egg. She's been smeared like jelly over peanut butter.

And to me, this is the nugget of the election: what are the willing to do to win. We're in serious trouble financially and otherwise and we have to pick someone we trust. It is coming down to that. Obama talks a good line, but if you look at his short history in politics, it is full of deceit and hypocrisy. McCain and Palin both fought the Republican machines. Obama voted present and did nothing to fight the Daly machine which is one of the most corrupt in Democratic politics. He always aquiesced, accommodated, gave in, looked the other way. Biden? Biden has been an insider in DC for a decade longer than McCain.

We need people we can trust for the next eight years. I felt I had that with Hillary Clinton. I don't with Obama. Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior and when a man is that ambitious for personal power, he compromises any time he thinks that is threatened.

This email incident is just one of a series of what I see as utter contempt for justice and doing it the right way. It may just be camp followers, but it was certainly illegal. If that is the essence of the Obama Nation, the great change he portends, then it is change for the worse, degradation, and frankly, just more chaos for the sake of the Great Get Even.

Hey dummies, the Blackberry comment was a JOKE, JOKE, JOKE!!!! Harping about things like this just shows your frustration and mentality level.

Suckers, no one knows if this is a GOP ploy/dirty trick and maybe never happened at all. Let's see the proof and/or a damning email before we draw any conclusions. HEY, remember Watergate - was that not a GOP gambit?

The lefties, Democrats, can't find a thing on McCain because he has a proven record and character in Washington. She's new, so this is an attempt to keep the public stirred up with suggested garbage on Palin that has no foundation, up until the election in an attempt to control people's minds and get them to vote for the chosen one.
Well, I hope people get the REAL TRUTH and use their brains in this election.
Otherwise, we're only going downhill all the way.

Actually, this does sound like a Republican 'dirty trick' that they do to themselves to gain 'sympathetic outrage' by portraying Sarah Palin as a VICTIM...McCain loves to hide under her skirt and cry foul whenever anyone questions her readiness. Karl Rove wrote about doing this exact sort of thing: "self inflicted wounds". It's a textbook tactic...so why blame Obama when there is NO evidence he was involved in any way?

Geez, McCain invented the Blackberry but couldn't invent security to protect email? Maybe John should give this more thought.

Looks like there are no rules for the Democrats as usual. Their main job is to BRAINWASH less than bright people and the leftists who seem to run the country.

Desperate move. However, Palin has absolutely nothing to hide. HA! HA! Makes them look like fools.

Dig a little deeper, why would a politician use a non-government email account? Everyone working in corporations knows that everything is backed up, and IT can bring up emails that you wrote and sent many years back. The government is the same. This is another frighteningly brilliant move by a politician to do business without the risk of accountability. Send emails and delete. There is no back up for anyone to review. Sarah Palin is no an idiot. Idiots are those who do not vote. This is a critical milestone in US history. What is more important? What someone thinks about abortion or what they think of the US and global economy, the middle class, and the two wars that have killed and displaced so many lives?

Don’t let the media think for you, read, digest, and think. We are the most powerful country in the world, if we want to maintain it; we need to start using our brains and not be lead like cows to a slaughter.

Sounds like terrorism tactics to me.

Hacking into personal/identity profiles on the internet.

Posted by: Joe | Sep 18, 2008 10:42:18 AM

Clearly this is a felony that should be prosecuted.

Obama's surrogates in the interent need to be stopped. According to the Chicago Tribune the Obama campaign has been using a well organized internet based campaign against a local radio station to suppress interviews with individuals that have insight into Obama's beliefs and behaviors, including his involvement with the Annenburg Challenge.

The hackers that succeeded in getting into Palin's account can get into a Yahoo account now. That means any Network Anchor, any viewer, any supporter of a candidate no longer has personal privacy. This falls in line with Obama's support of Bush's request for "warrantless wire tapping". Now we have an idea of what that Obama belief represents.

@LAURA

Boy, do you have this mixed up - this is a war of classes whether you realize it or not - it's poor and middle class (democrats) vs the rich (republicans).

Reminder: Obama is not taking donations from lobbyists...and in fact changed DNC donation rules to comply with his campaign rules (walking the walk of change)! McSame's campaign is being DRIVEN by lobbyists!

Unless you are making greater than $250,000, you should be voting Obama/Biden concerning taxes at the very least. A vote for the republicans is a vote against yourself otherwise.

I found it interesting that yesterday when this news broke, Fox news said that no one should have their e-mail spyed on, yet Bush has gone out of his way to ensure this sort of thing be done when ever and to who ever he wants!

Wow. What an act of desperation by socialist libs. I can't believe the lack of empathy from some of these posters here. Do you really want someone in the White House whose supporters would stoop so low. Whoever did this is gooing to pay, and so should the web sites that aid and ebt this type of behavior.

Pathetic.

"The American public has a right to know what its potential VP is all about,. . ."

I think we need to know more about Mr. Obama more than we need to know Gov. Palin.

Posted by: Joe | Sep 18, 2008 10:12:59 AM

Sarah, Laura sweeties. You know it was probably the McCain camp that is behind this, anything to distract from the issues. Economy is the #1 issue right now. Too bad McCain doesn't have a clue.

Posted by: jj | Sep 18, 2008 10:11:04 AM

Maybe Palin's privacy was invaded, BUT if she was using personal email accounts to conduct government business in order to prevent them from ever being disclosed in an investigation, this is MUCH more serious for the country and must be publicized. Wasn't it the Republicans who created the WAtergate scandal under Nixon? They have consistently used sneaky, underhanded and dishonest campaign tactics so they have no right to be so high and mighty when it comes back to them. There is plenty of evidence, whether Palin testifies or not (Of course she should) that she was using her power inappropriately for personal reasons. People in Alaska are coming out of the woodwork and mustering up the courage to speak about her abuses. I hope they keep their jobs! The American public has a right to know what its potential VP is all about, and she is trying her darndest not to show us. At first many people were enchanted by her, now they are seeing her true colors. The spell is being broken. Don't be led down the garden path to the house of the wicked witch, lured by the candy. Learn the lessons of the fairy tales- the wickedest characters are often disguised in a pretty face!

I thought Obama was running against McCain, not Palin.

Goes to show you, Obama does not have the experience to fight against McCain so his campaign must attack Palin.

Typical hollywood tactics.

Posted by: Joe | Sep 18, 2008 10:03:18 AM

Let someone go hacking into Obama's emails and see all the dirty connections he has with Soros and company, and they would demand an FBI investigation (at taxpayer expense). Who ever did this to Palin should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and Obama should apologize to Palin (but he is too smug to do that).

Posted by: tjsmith | Sep 18, 2008 9:58:44 AM

If you have a brain, you will vote for McCain/Palin. If you like being manipulated into thinking random internet gossip is more important than a politician's stance on the ISSUES, then vote for Obama. If you're dumb or rich, you will probably be voting for Obama anyway. We don't want you messing up the intelligent pools of people that are voting for McCain/Palin. The biggest difference between republicans and democrats? IQ.
