Profiles in Porridge
September 17, 2008 8:39 PM
So, just to recap, of the four folks running for president and vice president on the two major party tickets, on the government's decision to bail out AIG, the responses have been two flip-flops, a refusal to take a position, and a continuing refusal to seriously answer questions from the press.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has gone from opposing the bailout to reluctantly supporting it, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., has gone from opposing it to not taking a position, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has not taken a position, and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, well, ... it's day 18 since she's been introduced as McCain's VP nominee, and apparently, she thinks she can handle the financial sector but she can't deal with a bunch of reporters.

jake enjoys zinging Palin for not taking questions.
Where is the list of questions jake has asked the least qualified man to ever run for President?

if she can't deal with a bunch of reporters then she doesn't deserve to be a heart beat away from the White House!

If people came after my family and said the things they're saying about her family, you people would be lucky to have all your damned teeth.

Hold on, Jack. If Palin tells reporters she will not have a position, as Obama and Biden have, will that satisfy you and the reporters' egos?

GEE - WHAT'S NEW? OBAMA CAN'T TAKE A POSITION ON AIG BECAUSE HE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND IT!

"Gee, I must have missed all those Biden one-on-one primetime interviews."
Biden has been interviewed 80 times by local & national media since being picked as VP.
To say nothing of his countless interviews during the primary and previous years in the Senate.
Palin was exposed by Charlie Gibson before an interview with a fawning Sean Hannity

Sarah Palin is busy promoting a total "cover-up" regarding Legislative Investigation against her as Governor!!
Palin will not co-operate. July she said she would be open. July 100% of legislators voted for investigation - Democrats and Republicans. Now Republican national pressure being applied upon Alaskan Republicans. Now legislators want a total revote??? How can this be?? They already voted twice to proceed ahead. Once in July and then as recently as 1-2 weeks ago?? John McCain is trying best to cover up what the truth is!! Top lawyers working on. Voters need to investigate this investigation! It has become the biggest sham ever!! Alaskans are becoming very upset. With holding of evidence. Refusal to testify when subpoenaed. Claiming "executive privilege." Sarah Palin and her administration use private email accounts to do Alaska government business to avoid Public Records Act. Then some advocacy group hacked into her yahoo account today. This group attempt to get to truth when they see a cover-up. This is same email accounts Palin refused to submit information over plus other government information. Please do read about this up there!! Republicans are in attack mode- attacking publicly. State attorney general will not honor subpoena - but seems he may have information and involved- he forgot to mention this??? Legislative Investigation Committee is being quiet. Head of committee made one comment and got in trouble. Since then they seem to keepign low profile.
I see major problem - appears Sarah Palin may have/did abuse her power and apply illegal pressure???

I think a quotation from "Profiles in Porridge" is most applicable here: "Ask not what you can do for your country, but what you can do for your campatign, especially your poll numbers, which could tank with some voters if you actully take a stand on an issue." If this is what is meant by
"change," you can keep it!

She's good at memorizing a
script and repeating it. Her
answer would have been longer
and more comprehensive and
more spontaneous. If asked
the same question she'd
probably repeat the same
script.
AIG is vastly more than just
a construction bonds holder
and insurance carrier.
You'll probably hear the
same things until her
script is updated.

Who cares what Palin thinks. . .McCain has been around for decades, and in his entire career has been AGAINST REGULATION of any kind. . .he's on the record many, many times. There's no way for him to now CHANGE his ideology about government and regulation. . .NO OVERSIGHT !!! That's the Bush doctrine. Let the corporations do whatever. . .and the middle class can just catch the 'trickle down' assets. . . whatever you can get. .IF the good ole boys let you have it !!!
McCain = Bush. . .no way around it. . .so what happens in the market tomorrow ??? I think Matthews had the right ideas tonight. . .where's Bush ?
We need confidence restored in this country. . .but the neocons are no where in sight. . .No where !!!!
Typical. They broke it. . but they NEVER TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR FAILURES. NEVER. Must be a neuro-pathological disorder.

Palin's not the only one hiding from the press. WHY WON'T McCAIN TALK TO THE PRESS?
McCAIN = LIPSTICK ON A BUSH

Well, I'm pretty sure Palin will show up to the debates. I mean, unless she thinks the moderators are out to get her.

We Americans all pay for the government's decision to bail out AIG. That decision could prove to be an enormous and pretty costly blunder.
I give Obama credit for not taking position yet, just to please to pundits. If we had a good and responsible government, we never would have arrived at this disastrous point.
Now America is fighting the excesses of its capitalism with its government taking socialist measures... that's where the Republicans have taken us. It's a very sorry sight, and ALL Americans better reflect on what is going wrong in our economy.
The GOP ideology of unregulated capitalism has run its course. It has brought us on the brink of a total economic collapse.
John McCain has consistently opposed all proposals to regulate Wall Street. He should now pay a price for doing just that, even though he is very busy right now with flip-flopping on all of his former economic views.

"Now unless she think condescension is a sport"
Based on her convention speech, I would say its a sport she not only thinks of but enjoy a great deal.

Since Sarah Palin can read I think she knows that the people in the back of her plane are no friends of hers. They don't care to ask her questions they want to embarrass her. They think she is stupid, a small town mayer and a beauty queen from a hick state name Alaska. Now unless she think condescension is a sport I think she is right to refrain from engaging the reporters in the back of her plane who clearly think it is.
---------------------
Correct. Who do they think they should be able to ask the potential VICE PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES any questions!
The folks at the Republican convention said she was qualified. They told you how great she is. That should be good enough!

It doesn't matter if Gov. Palin is interviewed or not. She says nothing.
She's an obvious master of the art of making lips move and not saying a single word. In other words, a typical politician... who will go to Washington if elected and not change a damn thing.
Posted by: Gus | Sep 17, 2008 9:13:17 PM
Barack Obama did make a position.
It's a reluctant YES. LIke McCain. SEe his statement. The only diff b/w him and McCain is he didn't flip flop.
Posted by: David | Sep 17, 2008 9:10:06 PM
Sure Sarah Palin can deal with a bunch of reporters. She's a well-trained coquette. Her only problem is that she wouldn't know what McCain would answer when serious questions about national or international policies issues come up. According to Palin, one daily flip-flopper on the big issues will do, on a single ticket.
