SC Dem Chair: Palin's Chief Req for Job Is She Hasn't Had an Abortion

September 10, 2008 4:41 PM

Does Gov. Sarah Palin have the Democrats completely and utterly rattled?

What on earth is going on?

Politico's Jonathan Martin reports that South Carolina Democratic chairwoman Carol Fowler told a Politico reporter today that Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., had chosen a running mate" whose primary qualification seems to be that she hasn't had an abortion."

Palin is an ardent opponent of abortion rights and earlier this year gave birth to her fifth child, Trig, who has Down Syndrome.

South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson today called Fowler’s statement "offensive, outrageous and -- most importantly –- dead wrong.  Gov. Sarah Palin is a strong pro-life, pro-family, reform-minded conservative with meaningful experience, whose message has resonated in South Carolina.  Fowler's statement is born out of desperation from a campaign that is sputtering across the South. Carol Fowler should immediately apologize.  Her remarks are unbecoming of a party leader and demonstrate poor judgment."

My stars.

UPDATE: Obama campaign spox Nicholas Shapiro says, “She was not speaking for our campaign -– just as John McCain has said state parties don’t speak for him.  But, obviously, this does not reflect our view."

UPDATE 2: Fowler has issued a statement, saying, "I personally admire and respect the difficult choices that women make everyday, and I apologize to anyone who finds my comment offensive. I clumsily was making a point about people in South Carolina who may vote based on a single issue. Whether it’s the environment, the economy, the war or a woman’s right to choose, there are people who will cast their vote based on a single issue.  That was the only point I was attempting to make."

Domestic Violence is a crime and in most states that trooper would have been locked up after he tazered his ten year old kid. If anybody thinks otherwise is a hypocryte.

That Commissioner in Alaska should have been fired and his state trooper too.
That Commissioner has put Gov Palin and her family at risk. In Washington State nobody stopped Police Chief Brame when he treatened his wife and then he shot her and himself with his police revolver. That Trooper should still be locked up and his tazer and his weapons be taken away from him.

These time and this election is scary, for everyone. But it doesn't matter to you, you continue to attack. If this upsets you, then I am talking to you. Sad, unaware, entitled and gross. Shut up and just vote, deal with what happens, help others and do something. Your opinions will not matter in the generations to come, only your actions. If you want change then do something and hopefully you will realized that attacking is not going to help.

Anyone see the Rasmussen Poll? It's McCain 48% and Obama 45%. Don't know where you saw that it was reversed on the same site! Look at all the state by state polls. Look at all the swing states and the "leaners" for Repubs are switching to "safe"! Now, McCain is up on electoral votes by about 7!!!!

Woohoo! Those of you who believe Palin did not rattle the dems cage are living on another planet. Even Wolfson and other Dems, like Doug Shoen are saying the Dems do not know what to do about this. Top Fundraisers for Obama are saying the same thing. They are even saying that Obama is "off his game" talking even more stupidly than before. THey are rattled and I believe what the others are saying. The Dems are just watching the White House slip further and further away from them and they should have picked Hillary!!!!! These comments are ALL coming from Dems!!

• While she was mayor of the small town of Wasilla, Alaska, Palin hired a lobbyist to seek federal money for special projects. Wasilla obtained 14 earmarks, totaling $27 million, between 2000-2003, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan watchdog group that monitors federal spending.

• As governor, Palin has asked for 31 earmarks worth $197 million for the 2009 fiscal year. State budget documents show that the state requested 52 earmarks worth $256 million for the 2008 budget year.

trooper gate, they are requesting subpoena's to question her aides and Husband. First for the Bridge to no where and then agaist, ban books, fire anyone that does not agree with her, Pork money she requested, She put the Jet on e-bay but it did not sell an then hired a broker to sell it. Changed her state money for being at home, reinbursted her husband and children for state business. All facts and you can research it for yourselves. And yes the Librarian was fired but rehired when crap hit the fan. Women are still angry with Palin for firing her Brother in laws boss, the one she was praising for helping with women's issue this just two month before she fired him for not getting rid of her brother in law. Kills animals from a helicopter for sport.

How about Jessie Ventura for Prez!!!......................................................................................makes the same sense as John/Sarah. We saw what a "C" student did for the USA. Now we want a bottom feeder in the top spot? He had such character and loyalty as a POW.....so much.......that he cheated on his wife who said she would have waited for him forever, and he left her. Great family values and great example to follow for all the people everywhere. He is not to blame for the S&L scandal...................right, OK.

Obama and this year's DNC has ruined our chances of taking back the White House and you know what...I've learned to deal with it. If McCain/Palin win it our country will have its first Women VP and that's pretty amazing too!

HA! They have so much dirt on Palin, like........................ Uhhhhhh..................... hmmmmmm................... Wait a minute, they have NOTHING on Palin! HA HA HA! All they have are insults and typical liberal hypocritical BS.

I don't get it.
When Karl Rove made news saying that McCain needed to pick a pro-life, anti-abortion VP candidate it didn't get this much attention.

McCain's views on many issues vary from mine, however, unless Palin speaks for herself and answers some hard questions, I guess I'll have to assume that the Republican ticket will continue to skirt the issue.
Pun, intended.

Did Obama return the money to Ayers?

Posted by: back2good | Sep 11, 2008 1:32:28 PM

Choosing a running mate based on one qualification? Even though that is only one stance out of plenty? Even more reason to disregard mccain.

Posted by: back2good | Sep 11, 2008 12:29:02 PM

More of the same Do as I say not as I do why did Palin give $25000 to a teen center did they really have sex counciling /birth-control info for teens there? Pro life NOT when given the oppoutunity for the state legislation to work in a special session on some Pro-Life issues Palin DECLINED. these memos and other information are not coming out of the Obama camp they are Directly from Alaska.

That would be one qualification of many that she did not murder an innocent child.

True contrast on these two tickets on the right you got 2 people that believe in the sanctuary of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and on the left you have 2 people that will allow babies to die on a cart in a waste room all becasue they cant vote, they want to take away our freedom and make themselves happy!!

Posted by: spock | Sep 11, 2008 9:59:11 AM

Just more evidence of the sexist idiocy of the left.

How could people who consider themselves the "educated ones" while the rest of us are "white trash" -- yes, how could they be so out of touch with reality. Makes me glad I dropped out of college -- I saved my soul.
