The Pork Wars, Continued

September 06, 2008 10:53 PM

In Albuquerque, N.M., this evening, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin hit back at Sen. Barack Obama’s comments earlier today assailing her record on earmarks compared to her anti-pork crusader posturing.

"Now just today, our opponent brought up earmarks, and frankly I was surprised that he raised the subject. I didn’t think he’d want to go there," Palin said, per ABC News' Imtiyaz Delawala. "Our opponent has requested nearly $1 billion in earmarks in just three years. That’s about a million dollars, about a million dollars for every working day. Just wait until President McCain puts a stop to that."

Palin claimed she "championed reform of earmark spending by Congress, and I told the Congress thanks but no thanks on that 'Bridge to Nowhere,'" she said, ommiting mention that she'd campaigned for governor supporting the bridge. "If our state wanted a bridge, we’d build it ourselves."

Palin said, "We did cut back earmarks in our state and I’m ready to help John McCain end earmarks once and for all; that secret system, eleventh hour, behind-closed-doors, no public scrutiny earmark system that is broken. We will end that."

She did not go into the hundreds of millions of dollars in earmarks she has sought as governor and as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, nor the fact in 2001 and 2002, McCain -- a legit pork-buster -- cited three of the pork projects she sought as "objectionable."

The real joke here is Obama claiming that McCain is trying to make this race about personality and not issues. Once Palin is now the new phenom, and Obama is old news he gets angry.

But to make matters worse, we've been hearing about Obama for over a year nonstop and most people have no idea what he stands for other than:
1. Socialize everything
2. Raise the corporate tax rate (newsflash barack: it's the second highest in the world as it is!)
3. Redistribute money from hardworking and successful to lazy and unsuccessful.

In terms of foreign policy, he shifts his position every day so who knows what he stands for.

The only sure thing is Barack Obama wants to usher in Socialism into the US. If you're a socialist, go ahead and vote for him. If you're not, avoid him like the plague.

For all of those saying Sarah Palin is not ready to be VICE-President because she knows nothing about Irag.

What the heck does Obama, who wants to be PRESIDENT, know about Iraq, other than he was against the war (so were a lot of people), before he was able to VOTE against the war, and AGAINST the surge (but now admits it has been successful).

He has only been there maybe twice in the whole time he's been Senator. Palin made a trip over there practically immediately after becoming Governor. Palin also has a son who has been training for deployment to Iraq.

I doubt that Obama, the PRESIDENTIAL candidate, other than what his 500 advisers have been telling him for the last 18 months, knows all that much more about Iraq than Palin, the VICE-Presidential Candidate does.

And I will bet by the time she has her debate with Biden, she has been brought up to speed on what information she might not already have.

Turning to the issues for a minute, the federal government is spending HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS on prescription drugs.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe that we use the purchasing power, just like when private companies like McDonald's order their potatoes, and negotiate the price with the big drug companies.

EVERY OTHER INDUSTRIAL COUNTRY IN THE WORLD SAVES THEIR TAX PAYERS BILLIONS OF DOLLARS BY NEGOTIATING ON THE PRICE OF PRESCRIPTIONS.

Why does John McCain favor wasting the American taxpayer money?

===================================
Here's another question: Who is the REAL pro-life party? The Democrats!

If you have cancer and go to the local ER without insurance, you will very likely be sent back home without scheduling treatment. Send home to die.

Come back later when you have health insurance!

Biden and Obama think everyone should be able to by the same insurance as provided to members of congress.

Obama = socialism, "re-distribution of wealth" ( progressive is a code word for marxists socialism)

McCain = Capitalism, lower taxes and less government regulation

Obama = no drilling , no nuclear enegy

McCain = off shore drilling, build nuclear power plants

Today the Rasmussen Poll states as follows:

In the first national polling results based entirely on interviews conducted after Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech, Barack Obama gets 46% of the vote and so does John McCain. When "leaners" are included, it’s all even at 48%. Tracking Poll results are released at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time each day

la, la, la, la, la oh it's such a happy day today!!! Enjoy this all of the obama junkies! lolololol And, it is only in the middle of the post covention bounce for McCain and Palin! Yes, yes, yes!!! Go McCain!

We are going to put Obama in his place and the Democratic party for being so vindictive with Hillary and Bill Clinton! They are going to be taught a huge lesson this year!

Obama = more govt. programs and spending

McCain = smaller govt. and less "pork"

Posted by: neville | Sep 7, 2008 9:43:33 AM

All I do is rollin' in the dirt with Sarah Porkin', and half of America loves it!

Such an amazing country!

Posted by: John McCain | Sep 7, 2008 9:42:09 AM

McCain and certainly Palin welcome all distractions with fervor, as long as they don't have to focus on the real current issues and consequently put their actual policy proposals on the table.

In a difficult times that make Americans look out for strong government, they still repeat that blasé phrase that "gorvernment gets in the way of the people"... Incredible. The GOP government is nowhere to be seen when things get really tough for Americans...

It's amazing me that the MSM doesn't hit the Republicans a whole lot harder on steering away from the issues time and again. We are fighting two wars, many millions of our fellow Americans are in serious economic troubles, our businesses, schools and cultural institutions are in decline... And the masses are cheering an Alaskan governor for reading a text written by a Bush speech writer!?!?

In TIME magazine, Joe Klein hits the nail on its head when he writes:

"Maybe I'm getting old, maybe it's that I've seen this act so often before, maybe it's that the people I talk to when I go out on the road really are having a harder time paying for things like health care, gasoline and college tuition, but I'm finding the Republican attempts to derail the conversation from the actual state of the country really depressing and disgraceful this year. They practice Orwellian politics of the crudest sort. They are trying to sell a big lie--that the election is about the social issues of the 1960s, or Barack Obama's patriotism or his eloquence, or the "angry left," when it's really about turning toward a more moderate path after the ideological radicalism and malfeasance of the past eight years."

Americans, please wake up. A 20th century POW story and a nice Alaskan smile have NO relevance whatsoever for what America and the world is demanding from the American Administration in the 21st century.

Not bad but weak. Just finished watching little George attempt to catch Obama out in a series of contradicting vicious gotcha questions. Quite a difference from the softball fluff piece with McCain

Posted by: Polaris | Sep 7, 2008 9:27:01 AM

It's the economy stupid! People are gonna vote their wallets and they will vote Obama/Biden. NOBODY in their right mind would vote for another Republican! Tom Ridge called John McCain, John Bush....and he got that right!

Republicans try to throw people off by not discussing the issues, but it won't work.

OBAMA SAY'S REGARDING MCCAIN:

"DON'T BE FOOLED"

"Suddenly He's The Change Agent?"...

"They Must Think You're Stupid"

Posted by: Moneyman | Sep 7, 2008 8:43:33 AM

don't be blamed by 4 more years of cover up and secrecy...

and hiding from scrutiny on bad choices by avoiding and pointing fingers at the press...

throw the bums out...

no more Rovian tactics

no more Cheney tactics

No more manipulating the American people to our own detriment

throw the bums out!

Posted by: dl | Sep 7, 2008 8:20:44 AM

Just like the press had to do with every candidate

just like the press had to fight for with Nixon and Libby.

just like the only way we have started to learn the truth on the disaster of katrina and the falsification of WMD and tricking the people into a war...

where are the interviews?

where are the answers?

the press IS the people.

the press iS what got us the truth the only times we got it in the past 8 years...

where are the interviews, the answers from her own ill-equipped knowledge base?

the McCain campaign is continuing the secrecy and cover ups of the last 8 years.

people call them out.

Mccain threw the country under the bus for marketing and manipulation...

just like their "cousins" who have "ruled" us into the last 8 years and our country and our economy falling apart.

throw the "secretive ones" ...the "un American ones" out...

Palin being removed from the scrutiny of ANYTHING outside words that were written by someone else and not showing that she comprehends ANY of the issues we face...

is not only sad...absurd...but scary that some people actually continue to fall for the slime that got us here on this downward spiral over the last 8.

Mccain's team IS the same team that got us the last 8 years of cover ups, lies, misleading statements in speeches...and then piointing fingers in three different directions and "blaming" the liberal press for actually asking questions to draw attention

Don't Be played throw the bums out.

Posted by: dl | Sep 7, 2008 8:17:21 AM

Number of earmarks that McCain has attached to legislation bills...ZERO.

I repeat...ZERO.

The choice by McCain to NEVER attach earmarks is unmatched by ANY other Senator, and is a reflection of unrivaled moral character.

Posted by: neville | Sep 7, 2008 8:04:28 AM

who gives a cr*p about Palin - she's a nobody who won't even bother to take interviews. frankly, i'm not interested in a candidate who only wants their polished side to show.

Posted by: MIguy | Sep 7, 2008 7:53:24 AM

Euro.guy,

What has happened to America is the media here has stopped telling folks the truth.

Posted by: Moneyman | Sep 7, 2008 7:46:16 AM

The other thing is with all that heralded executive experience she's supposed to have and with all those earmarks she got for Wasilla and raising the sales tax (no state sales tax but there are local sales taxes) how is it she left the town $20 million in debt?
