The Story Behind Biden's Emergency Helicopter Landing in Afghanistan

September 22, 2008 6:19 PM

"Ladies and gentlemen, where are we now? Where are we now?" Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., said to the National Guard Association today, talking about the war in Afghanistan.

"If you want to know where Al Qaeda lives, you want to know where Bin Laden is, come back to Afghanistan with me," Biden said. "Come back to the area where my helicopter was forced down, with a three-star general and three senators at 10,500 feet in the middle of those mountains. I can tell you where they are."

Biden said that Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., "says he’ll follow them to the gates of hell. You don’t have to go to hell. Just go to Pakistan. Just go to that area. That superhighway of terror that exists between Afghanistan and Pakistan."

We hadn't heard before about Biden's helicopter being forced down, so we did some Googling.

After all, earlier this month at a fundraiser, he made a similar remark, when discussing how he doesn't care about the Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's controversies like whether she sold a state plane on eBay, or when she went from supporting to opposing the Bridge to Nowhere.

"What I care about is: What in God's name is she going to do -- along with John McCain -- about the thousands of people who don't have health care?" Biden said according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Biden said he would ask Palin about "The superhighway of terror between Pakistan and Afghanistan where my helicopter was forced down...John McCain wants to know where Bin Laden and the gates of Hell are? I can tell him where. That's where Al Qaeda is. That's where Bin Laden is. It's not in the country of Iraq."

In February 2008, Biden -- along with Sens. John Kerry, D-Mass., and Chuck Hagel, R-Neb. -- was on a chopper that made an emergency landing in the mountains of Afghanistan.

A snowstorm had forced them down.

No one was injured, and the Associated Press reported at the time that "the senators and their delegation returned to Bagram Air Base in a motor convoy, and left for Turkey.

"The weather closed in on us," Kerry told the AP at the time in a phone interview from Turkey. "It went pretty blind, pretty fast and we were around some pretty dangerous ridges. So the pilot exercised his judgment that we were better off putting down there, and we all agreed...We sat up there and traded stories."

Kerry joked, "We were going to send Biden out to fight the Taliban with snowballs, but we didn't have to do it…Other than getting a little cold, it was fine."

Where does Biden say his chopper was shot down? I think the point this VP is making is that he's been to the central front on the war on terror: the Pakistan-Afghanistan border (as opposed to McCain's references to the non-existent Iraqi-Afghani border). If this is the best Republicans can come up with to discredit Joe, then they might as well concede now. Compared to Palin's whoppers, this is laughable: 1) First thanks, then no thanks to the bridge to nowhere--but thanks for the cash!; 2) Claiming the natural gas pipeline as an accomplishment without mentioning that the pipeline may never be built due to ongoing land disputes that her administration failed to resolve; 3) Her claim that heading the AK National Guard gave her commander in chief credentials, when in fact she has delegated all decision making to Maj. General Craig Campbell; 4) claiming foreign policy experience by virtue of "protecting US airspace" from the rearing head of Putin:

To me, this is analogous to Palin's E-Bay statement, which I thought was no big deal...she put the plane on E-bay (true, but it didn't sell), Biden's helicopter was forced down (but by a snowstorm). Let's stick to the issues of experience and ideas for getting the nation out of the mess we're in.

Posted by: Mark | Oct 1, 2008 9:14:31 AM

Biden was not joking when he told his story.

Biden was trying to emphasize that our real enemies are in Afghanistan and not in Iraq.
Hmm! Joe knows were the bad guys are cause his helicopter was forced down by problems with visibility in a snowstorm.

Posted by: Victor | Oct 1, 2008 2:30:54 AM

It looks like Biden and Obama can say anything they want true or not. The believers merely swallow everything.

Biden didn't lie about being in a helicopter that was forced down in Afghanistan.

Biden just implied that hostile fire forced the bird down. He never mentioned that a snow storm was the reason. He just wanted to make people believe he saw the enemy and they were the cause of the "forced" landing....Biden said in context that The bad guys are in Afghanistan. He knows first hand because of his helo going down.

Posted by: Victor | Oct 1, 2008 2:23:12 AM

Senator Biden tried to embellish what happened during his VP helo flight.

He was on helo to avoid problems on the ground. The aircraft was forced to land due to weather.

No hostile fire was involved. Biden told the story so it sounded like he was shot at and forced down by enemy fire.

Biden is a story teller who lives in a fantasy world. He still can see FDR on TV telling America about the crash of 1929.

Hmm!
How many other delusions does he have?

" From 2000 -2006 we had a republican president, a republican congress, a repubican senate."

A bill favored by the Bush Administration was introduced in 2005 that would have created a more regulation and oversight of Fannie and Freddie. The Democrats managed to kill it.

Oops?

omg, he was joking around. haters can turn anything into a lash. before you go on about biden, can you explain to us why palin lies so much? bridge to nowhere? earmarks? she's only been around for a few weeks, and already lied more than the other 3 candidates combined. heard she was ambitious....

Joe Biden is a well known and often proven liar and plagiarizer. All intelligent Americans have a right – even a duty -- to question EVERYTHING he says!

Posted by: professorj | Sep 23, 2008 10:36:31 PM

If Joe Biden knew he was flying into a dangerous storm and flew anyhow then he is not only crazy, he risked other people's lives as part of his mania. Ditto for Hagel and Kerry. As officer vets, Hagel and Kerry are supposed to have the smarts and judgement to avoid unnecessarily risking American service lives.

As to the supposed "flyer" of the helicopter - let's have his name, rank, serial number. This "flyer" in "Afghanistan" is probably a hoaxer.
Which makes me sick of the bastards who perpetrate these insults to our heroic service members.

Soo.. how does he know that Al CIAda and Bin Laden are in those mountains? What is the point of making those claims when he has no proof or explanation to go with it?

Posted by: BrickShatner | Sep 23, 2008 4:41:50 PM

Dave,

Don't you remember Pres. Clinton wanted every American to be able to buy a house! So the mortgage industry lowered all the existing standards, ignored marginal credit scores, did not require buyers to put any money into a house-IE no down payment, and let them have the seller pay the buyers closing cost, even created down payment assistance program disguising themselves as a non-profit organization, created 100% financing and did 80/20 loans (1st loan for 80% and a 2nd for 20%) so the marginal buyer could get out of PMI insurance etc, not to mention lets do a interest only loan on ARMS because home prices always rise.....This is the problem with the mortgage and banking industry today, we had no rules-no minimum standards if you had a pulse you got a loan...thus we will all suffer, the 1st wave of mortgage companies to go under where in the secondary mortgage markets holding the 2nd lien at 20% and no insurance, now we have the primary mortgage market falling. Wake-up nothing is free in life, and if it is to one person, someone else is the one paying for it.

"Dave B,

One last thing. From 2000 -2006 we had a republican president, a republican congress, a repubican senate. Why didn't you fix Fannie Mae? Jimmie Carter's problems? or Bill Clinton's? Just take the responsiblity and stop blaming the democrats."

I was there, in the helicopter, on the controls. I can tell you all right now, it was NOT fun at any point. Was it dangerous? YES, yes it was. Why you ask? Try flying a helicopter past 14000 foot tall mountains that you CANT SEE! Then, find a place to land, in the mountains, when you CANT SEE! NOT fun. Oh, and yes, Im still in Afghanistan right now.

Sen. Biden did just fine. He really is a pretty good guy, and his comments were accurate and appropriate in my opinion.

They were not "rescued" by Blackwater civilians. They were convoyed to Bagram by the infantry of the Arizona National Guard that was doing all the fighting in the area at that time. Excellent bunch of guys. They stayed with us (the crews) until we could be extracted the next afternoon.

As a US Army Pilot, Sen. Biden has my respect, as do all the other people who were involved with the situation.

Posted by: Laine | Sep 23, 2008 2:53:20 PM

Wait a second. Everything Biden said was true. It was forced down. It was in a thick snowstorm in a dangerous [physically dangerous, even ignoring any war] place.
Would YOU have been relaxed taking a helicopter into such a setting. Gee, as Biden would say, give me a break!!!

Thanks again, Joe

WASHINGTON, DC — Another case of Joe being Joe.

The Delaware Senator took issue with an attack ad from his own side in an interview with CBS, telling Katie Couric that the Obama hit on McCain’s ignorance of computers and technology was “terrible.” The ad paints McCain as out of touch — and all but calls him ancient — but doesn’t mention that the Arizona Senator’s war injuries actually prevent him from using computers for an extended period.

Asked whether he’s disappointed with the tone of the campaign, including the ad that Couric characterized as “making fun of John mcCain’s inability to use a computer,” Biden said “I thought that was terrible by the way.

“I didn’t know we did it and if I had anything to do with it, we would have never done it”

The dinosaur-main-stream-media, intent on bringing Senator Clinton down, made a HUGE deal about her recount of her trip to Bosnia.

Now Joe Biden has said this twice and what do we hear?

Zip. Nada. ZERO!

I think the dinosaur-main-stream-media should be sued for misrepresenting to the American people that they are "reporting". These people are in the tank for Nobama. There should be a disclaimer before and after every word that comes out of their mouths.

What this boils down to is FREE POLITICAL ADVERTISING FOR ONE CANDIDATE WHILE IGNORING OR TRYING TO ADVERSELY AFFECT THE OTHER CANDIDATE.

THIS IS WRONG!

Posted by: Uncle Earl | Sep 23, 2008 10:34:09 AM

Sara...
It certainly sounds like Biden is implying that their chopper was forced down by Al Qaeda and Bin Laden himself - he says his chopper was forced down and in the very next sentence says he can tell us where Bin Laden and Al Qaeda are. It implies that he saw the enemy and they were right there forcing his helicopter to the ground. Biden should consider a career in the theatre - melodrama is his forte.

Posted by: Sheila T | Sep 23, 2008 10:10:26 AM

Also, since this story was published months ago and was very well known, I doubt he thought he had to go into intricate detail to explain what happened. It was common knowledge.

Posted by: Sara | Sep 23, 2008 10:07:03 AM

I know Biden well enough to know that he never said this was sniper fire and that people are too quick to jump on something because they want to believe the worst about someone. I read this story months ago and know that this is a non-issue.

As for the Kinnock incident, the man quoted him all of the time, and on one occasion forgot to cite him. That incident was recorded by John Sasso of the Dukakis campaign and shopped around to several news outlets, many that declined to run with the story because they had followed the campaign and knew that he gave credit on other occasions. John Sasso was fired over this incident.

I happen to make myself an informed person. I would suggest that other people take the time to do that as well.

Posted by: Sara | Sep 23, 2008 10:04:15 AM

Sara ...
Biden's lies includes what he says and what he intentionaly does not say. He ment it to be taken as if he were forced down by hostels. You don't know Joe very well do you? Ask him about his alter-ego ...Neil Kinnock.

Posted by: PKhanPie | Sep 23, 2008 9:53:31 AM

When did Biden say they were forced down for sniper fire? He didn't, so why is everyone here assuming that he did? This is ridiculous and a waste of time. This is an old story that everyone knows already. Biden at no time said that they were forced down due to any enemy forces, enemy fire or enemy fighting. They were in a hostile region.
He didn't make up some harrowing tell about sniper fire, like Clinton. He actually told the truth and everyone is trying to make it a lie.

Posted by: Sara | Sep 23, 2008 9:48:03 AM

Let's see if this gets as much play as HIllary and the sniper fire.

Oh wait -- we only massacre HRC, don't we? The Chosen One's team gets preferential treatment from most.

Biden had 5 draft deferrals during Vietnam, until he finally found a doctor who said he had the worst case of asthma EVER!!! Of course, when asked recently if he had asthma, Biden said no.

Remember what they did to Bush and Cheney and their actions during Vietnam??

Posted by: Gump | Sep 23, 2008 8:49:14 AM

If McCains military record is irrelevant (as liberals like to claim) why is it that so many liberals LIE in order to claim courage under fire; Biden, Hillary, Kerry?
Someone needs to send a clue to the DNC; if you are going to lie, make it a lie that people will actually believe. I am sure they believe that the media is so 'in the bag' for them already, that no one will actually check the facts. For proof, can you imagine, for one second, that Sarah Palin would get a pass on something like this? I can see it already... "Oh, that's just Sarah being Sarah"... You know, the same way that the democrats shrug off Bidens constant flubs...
When a democrat lies, the DNC claims that they were tired from campaigning too much, when a republican lies, it is front page (above the fold) news...

Posted by: Verbal | Sep 23, 2008 8:40:29 AM

Here is a first hand account of Biden's helicopter ride:

Hey folks,

If you watch the news or read the papers Im sure you saw the article about the helicopters full of senators etc... that landed on a mountain over here in Afghan. Yeah, it WAS us, 7 of my buddies and myself. Yeah, it sucked, and yeah, it was cold as heck. We were out there for too dang long in the snow, rain, ice, sleet and wind. But, we had CAS (close air support) flying over (F-15s and A-10s) head at nearly all times and they had a live Predator feed going the whole time too (when they could see anyway).

It was pretty hairy at first, but once we were on the ground all was ok. We had about 100 or so locals (freindly? who knows) all around on the mountain tops watching all night. No shots fired, so, we didnt either. Its all good.

Shortly after the landing, we had ground guys (Arizona National Guard) mobilized and on thier way to our location. Now, about the AZ guys... AWESOME is the only word to describe them. I have worked with many active and guard units, and these fellas were TOP NOTCH for sure. Outstanding. The guys stood outside, all night and all day, in the rain, snow, wind etc... Tough as nails, and didnt complain for a second. A huge thank you goes out to those boys for doin what they do best.

So, part of their force took the senators, generals ect... back "home" and the rest stayed with us. Then it was a waiting game for weather to clear. Now, 37 hours after we departed, we are "home".

Good times good times. I have some pics of the area, weather ect... and I'll post them when I can.

Now can we trust you as vicepresident to tell the truth later???

Yeah, Biden also lies about his first wife who died in a car accident. Even today, Biden claims a drunk truck driver killed her, when in fact, the driver wasn't drunk and wasn't cited, nor was his truck found to be unsafe. The conclusion of the authorities is that his wife pulled out in front of the truck. No doubt Biden was trying to get sympathy vote and he'll trash a dead man and his family to score political points.

Sen Biden nice job you big loser! Aborting a mission for weather is not the same as being shot down. I can’t believe you are trying to make yourself sound like a hero when you are a zero. You should take better notes and listen to Sen McCain who is a true war hero. Pulling out of Iraq would leave that country in chaos but who cares as long as we have forced health care and $10 gallon for gas? I already have one of Sen Clinton’s forced HMO and it sucks! We should have the freedom to choose or own health care.

"Veterans, my point was to stop trashing veterans no matter what party they are with...they all deserve respect."

Really?

Ann, here's a little information that will get in your way about your comment about GWB not making it to Viet Nam.

Do you mean that GWB somehow finagled his was out of serving in Viet Nam and therefore hasn't earned respect as a vet?

Do you know what President Bush’s SS Lottery numbers were, or that he never even had a lottery number that was in a group that was drafted, or that he joined the Texas ANG 18 months before the first lottery in Dec of 1969, or even know what the SS Lottery was? No, probably not.

Additionally, here is an excerpt from an NRO article by Byron York dated August 24, 2004.

FOUR YEARS OF FLYING
The controversy over Bush's service centers on what his critics call "the period in question," that is, the time from May 1972 until May 1973. What is not mentioned as often is that that period was in fact Bush's fifth year in the Guard, one that followed four years of often intense service.

Bush joined in May 1968. He went through six weeks of basic training — a full-time job — at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Tex. Then he underwent 53 weeks of flight training — again, full time — at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Ga. Then he underwent 21 weeks of fighter interceptor training — full time — at Ellington Air Force Base in Houston. Counting other, shorter, postings in between, by the end of his training period Bush had served two years on active duty.

Certified to fly the F-102 fighter plane, Bush then began a period of frequent — usually weekly — flying. The F-102 was designed to shoot down other fighter planes, and the missions Bush flew were training flights, mostly over the Gulf of Mexico and often at night, in which pilots took turns being the predator and the prey. "If you're going to practice how to shoot down another airplane, then you have to have another airplane up there to work on," recalls retired Col. William Campenni, who flew with Bush in 1970 and 1971. "He'd be the target for the first half of the mission, and then we'd switch."

During that period Bush's superiors gave him consistently high ratings as a pilot. "Lt. Bush is an exceptional fighter interceptor pilot and officer," wrote one in a 1972 evaluation. Another evaluation, in 1971, called Bush "an exceptionally fine young officer and pilot" who "continually flies intercept missions with the unit to increase his proficiency even further." And a third rating, in 1970, said Bush "clearly stands out as a top notch fighter interceptor pilot" and was also "a natural leader whom his contemporaries look to for leadership."

It just amazes me how you and others like you don't like facts getting in the way of your talking points. Anyone can disagree with another's policies, positions, etc, but if you have to lie to bolster your position, what does that say about the strength of your arguments?

It says a lot . . .

Biden's bravado is merely another Demo"rat" attempt at creating an imaginary moment of heroism. Biden needs to contract with a wastewater treatment plant to directly collect his sewage as it pours from his mouth and try to treat it before it is released to the people (where it will be investigated and checked for Bovine fecal matter). Biden has learned well from Hillary Clinton and John Kerry and all his demo"rat"ic friends. They are able to create fairy tales and pretend they are truth. A proper name for this disease is "pathological liars." Come on Joe, you need to stand up and apologize to the snow storm that forced your flight to land. Even John Kerry said that was what happened.

How can Biden be a leader when he cannot even tell the truth? How can this be a potential "next president?" NO! Just say not to BO! And Biden's gotta go.

Why is Bill Gates building a plant in Africa to start producing DDT??? Why do liberals depend on their "feelings" instead of facts?

I've been all over that area of Pakistan and Afghanistan. I am a white American, 6'4", grey hair and green eyes. If I wanted to disappear in that area, Joe Biden couldn't find me with ALL of the US forces, the Hell's Angels AND John Kerry! It is the wildest, most desolate country I have ever seen. Biden is so full of baloney. GWB and the Republican congress tried to clean up the FM X 2 mess but were blocked by Barney Frank and Chris Dodd... they obviously didn't try hard enough. The Republicans worst mistake over the past 8 years was in trying to be like Democrats. They just didn't know how to lead.... sorta the Phil Mickelson's of politics! BUT even Phil figured it out finally! History will be a lot kinder to JWB than the media is today. Knowing all, I would vote for him again over that pompous lying A$$ Gore. Right war, right time, mishandled(?), maybe time will tell. Dems need to wise up and quit blaming GWB for everthing... makes y'all look even more petty than you are!

This story could take on a life of its own. It's not that Senator lied about anything, it's the way that the story is phrased and omission of critical facts. such as the reason they had to land was due to bad weather. To the people on here who talk about Global warming, Global cooling, and climate change, as a meteorologist I have yet to see any study as any great evidence that man is having huge influence on the Global climate. There have been studies showing thinner ice thickness in parts of Polar regions and there are studies showing thicker ice in other parts of the polar regions. I remember 2005 when there was huge increase in the number of tropical systems in the Atlantic Basin. People wanted to blame this on Global warming. What most people didn't want to point out, was that the Pacific basin had far fewer Tropical Cyclones than normal. this was actually a result of the quasi biennial oscillation of upper level winds. I for one believe that if global warming were in deed truth, there would be no need to change the buzz term.

Dave B,

One last thing. From 2000 -2006 we had a republican president, a republican congress, a repubican senate. Why didn't you fix Fannie Mae? Jimmie Carter's problems? or Bill Clinton's? Just take the responsiblity and stop blaming the democrats.

Dave B,

What a bunch of B.S. It's late, I've got to get up early and drive my children to school tomorrow.

You obviously either work for the RNC or your sitting at your computer w/ the republican playbook.

Veterans, my point was to stop trashing veterans no matter what party they are with...they all deserve respect.

Re: Fannie and Obama, here's 9/22/08 quote from Newsweek "...Never mind the fact that Raines never actually advised Obama on anything. The real problem here is that McCain's campaign is swarming with 26 advisers or fundraisers who have lobbied for Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac--including nearly a dozen who lobby right now. As the Washington Monthly's Steve Benen wrote last week, "one of McCain's top policy advisers, Charlie Black, was lobbyist for Freddie Mac for 10 years, while his campaign manager, Rick Davis, lobbied to help Fannie and Freddie steer clear of additional federal regulations [and earned $2 million in the process]... Tom Loeffler, who serves McCain's campaign co-chairman, also lobbied for Fannie Mae. Aquiles Suarez, a McCain economic adviser, was a Fannie Mae executive. Dan Crippen, a McCain adviser who helped craft the campaign's health-care policy, lobbied for Fannie Mae (and Merrill Lynch). Arthur B. Culvahouse, who helped lead McCain's VP search committee, also lobbied for Fannie Mae." According to former Fannie Mae executive William Maloni, "photographs of Sen. McCain's staff... loo[k] to me like the team of lobbyists who used to report to me." Without these ties--which are far more extensive than Obama's--McCain would have every right to say that associating with officials from troubled financial institutions is a sign of bad judgment. Again, it's not like Obama's hands are spotless. But with them, McCain offers Obama an otherwise unavailable opportunity to remind voters that McCain's own judgment--at least by McCain's own standards--is worse. So much for "no seat... at the table."

Earthday in the 1970's ...I went to some of those celebrations as a kid...no they were not all about "global cooling." It was much more that. It was the being of the environmental movement and inspired by Rachel Carson, the author of "Silent Spring."

China debt....your answer made no sense.

My point was Bush want to allow people to invest their Social Security funds in the stock market. The stock market is not the best place for amateurs.

Katrina...your argument has been disputed 100's of times and the republics fired Mr. Brown for failing at his FEMA job. I like the rest of American wondered "where is our President in this crisis?"

Wiretapping case is currently in the courts and AT&T is having to defend it's self. Case still pending. Your answer about FISA is wrong. FISA was set up so the goverment could listen to calls and then apply for a retroactive warrant. Out of 100's of warrants Fisa turned down only a few. My problem is not with wiretapping terrorist, it is the wiretapping they are doing with american journalist and other polictians outside their party.

Let's not even mention the outing of spies.

Yes, haebua corpus is under attack by the bush administration. Your answer, silliness.

Joe Biden and John Kerry were forced down for the same reason millions of school children miss classes during the winter..... A SNOW STORM. Kids usually go out and enjoy the winter wonderland and their day off from school. Joe Biden stumps and brags what he narrowly escaped. "Hey Joe Biden, I know John McCain." "John McCain is a friend of mine, and you're no John McCain."

Ann,

Geez, where to start. There are 19 Republican senators that are vets. No, it's not nice to mock veterans. Tell Barack Hussein (I thought about joining) Obama after he said McCain was dishonorable. Get real!!

The financial crisis goes back further than 6 years. The housing crisis that led to the financial crisis had a good start when Carter implemented the Community Reinvestment Act forcing lenders to give loans to people that could not afford them so everyone can be homeowners. Clinton reinforced it so lenders had to come up with inventive loans so people that should not be given loans were able to get them. Otherwise the lenders were accused of redlining and faced penalties. Barney Frank was in charge of oversight. Obama has taken more bribery money in a shorter amount of time than any other Senator to do nothing. And he has repaid them by doing just that.

WOW, this is too easy!

How can it be illegal wire tapping if the congress signs off on it?

Habeus Corpus is an American right. We don't have to grant our rights to non-citizens (including those that sneak into the country).

The Geneva Convention does not apply to terrorists but even so, they have it much better than they give our brave countrymen.

Murdering women and children indicates they were specifically targeted. Like the babies that Obama wants killed after a botched abortion. Unfortunately, only the first one is untrue.

I was just getting over the Global Cooling of the 70's when the Global Warming hit. Now it's global climate change since it is not getting warmer any longer. Just keep hanging on to your hope. Oh, and the world isn't flat. Hate to burst another bubble.

Jump back to the Daily Kos where you can join in the rally and nobody gets to post anything the sheep don't want to hear.

Up your Obama,

Lets be reasonable here, Why is it a fair game if McCain attacks obama with lies and distortions and it is wrong for Obama not to hit back.

The GOP has successfully used negative attacks and fear mongering to Win Elections since 2000.

McCain himself was a victim in the hands of George Bush, Karl Rove and Steve Schmidt in 2000.

John Kerry fell victim again in 2004 and you expect Barack Obama to remain silent while they are trying to give him a bad name to hang him.

If I may remind you, remember McCain's Ad which touted that Obama championed a Legislation as a State Senator which seeks to teach Kindergaten Kids, Sex ed.
Or that which falsely claimed that Obama would increase Taxes of Middle Income Earners. This list is endless.

Most Americans are low information Voters and hence, such ignoble Campaign Ads work better than issue based Ads. If not, Kerry would not have been swift-boated. If not, McCain wouldn't have lost on account of lies that he had an illegitimate Child with an African Woman.
They would have seen the story for what it is, that the Child from such affair is supposed to be mixed-race and not black.

But the Voters didn't bothered to see it from that truthful light and McCain paid dearly for it.

One of the architect of those ignoble Campaigns, Steve Schmidt, is working for McCain's Campaign now and you could see the change of tone of "the Straight Talk express" since Schmidt came on board.

So bro, lets be fair and lets see this election for what it is, the redemption of the Soul of the United States of America.

Hey Jimma Carter,

That's what Obama's been saying all along. We need to put more resources into Afganistan and Pakistan. It needs more resources than Bush and McCain have been giving it. Sounds like Obama's your answer.

HENCE THE ADMIN. AND LEGIS. ARE DETERMINED TO HIDE EVERYTHING WITH A BAILOUT, AT LEAST THEY ARE SMART ENOUGH TO TRY AND MAKE IT INFINITIVE BECAUSE THIS FIRST MASSIVE AMOUNT WILL PROBABLY ONLY COVER FOR A COUPLE YEARS. THIS IS ALL GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN WITHIN THE NEXT DECADE, BECAUSE A TRUE MARKET BOTTOM HAS BEEN DENIED AND THE NEXT CRISIS WILL BE DOOM. SAY NO TO BAILOUT!

Jon,

Well, your doing ok with 3 examples of republicans being veterans. I did say 5 examples. Hmmm, seems you forgot your #1 guy, Bush. Oh yeah, but he was sleeping it off in a airplane hanger in alabama, he didn't make it Viet Nam and before that he was a cheerleader at Yale. Ahh, let's see Cheney, hmmm no, he flunked out of Yale and then he got off the hook somehow. It's pretty well known that Republican politicians have served less in the military than democrats. You should show a little for any person who goes into the military, regardless of party affiliation.

Obama will lose in November, but it won't be because of racism. Obama is far left; McCain is center. Center wins. The election won't be very close at all.

Jeremy,

Global warming isn't new science. Studies have been going on since the 1890's. We have reached the point where we can no longer ignore it. We know that when you spew CO2 into the air,or when too many cattle poop and fart and give off methane gas things are going to heat up. We know that man's activities ( how many people in the world now, 6.7 billion?) are increasing the temperature of the planet. Even if it's a combination of both nature and man made we are running out of time. The book "The End of Nature".

We maybe have a small window left to turn things around. Maybe both parties should stop with the petty bickering and start acting like adults and roll up our sleeves together and get to work on what we agree on. There is no doubt that we have to make radical changes in how we live. Should we wait until all the oil runs out? By the way, the russians have the oil...maybe it's time to change the rules of the game and make oil obsolete.

this comment is for ann who posted the day of sep,23 2008at1:56:21am. Ann you claimed john mcain was in denial about global warming. How about this when Michigan was covered with 1.50 miles of 20,ooo years ago was it man made global warming that made the ice melt. Or was it the wooly mammoths farting that caused the ice to melt u tell me. lol

Hey Ann, Perhaps YOU should do a little research. John McCain's sons are ALREADY in the military being enrolled in Annapolis and one in the Marines with Palin's son heading out for a tour of duty in Iraq. These families ARE the ones making th
