When He's Facing a Tough Woman...Obama Goes on 'SNL'
September 11, 2008 11:38 PM
Live from New York ... it's Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
The campaign confirms that the Democratic presidential nominee will appear on the season premiere of "Saturday Night Live," with guest host Michael Phelps.
Last time Obama went on the show was in November 2007 (Watch HERE) -- when he was battling the political star power of a different woman, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y.
Since that appearance, "SNL" emerged as a player in the presidential election, with Clinton at a Democratic primary debate in Ohio even referencing an "SNL" skit mocking media adulation for Obama. (Not to mention Tina Fey's "b*tch is the new black" paean to Clinton.)
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., hosted the show several years ago (HERE'S his in/famous skit singing Barbra Streisand songs), and executive producer Lorne Michaels has donated money to McCain's campaign. Michaels has said that the show is in discussions with Fey about coming back to portray her doppelganger, Gov. Sarah Palin.
The Obama campaign leaked the news of this second "SNL" gig to what seems to be rapidly becoming its favorite media outlet, People magazine, which scored the first joint interview with Obama and his then-freshly-named running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del. (And only one of two joint interviews the duo have done, period.)
Obama often complains about the media not covering enough substance, and focusing on too much entertainment-related tabloid nonsense.

So now Obama won't be on SNL because of the hurricane. I think it's because of this column. How long has the hurricane been heading toward the coast and he just now cancels?

mara: If you watch the Jay Leno show, when he is asking questions to college student's, none of them have been able to answer one question. They are a big joke. They couldn't even answer who the first president was. Get a life. How dumb can they be?

It is amazing how many women are envious of Sarah Palin. The jealousy is eating them out. Well, the solution is get busy and accomplish something in you life and don't worry about other people that did. That's the real story. That goes for the men also. Obama stated he was a community organizer? He didn't say in what neighborhood. I live in Chicago, lived here all my life, know the soutside, northside, eastside and westside. I remember the Hyde Park are when it was as filty as a pigs sty and a lot of the neighborhoods on the southside that were spotless at one time. I would hate to see them now.

And where else to get a better perspective than SNL when the Republican candidates are SNL?

To Deb.
I don't know what else to tell you. Osama was never a major player in Afghan war against Soviet Union.
Do yourself a favor and just read
"Charlie Wilson's War", maybe that will help you understand that war.

When is Palin going to make an appearance on SNL?
After her performance last night, she'd fit right in with the Not Ready for Prime Time Players.

"Actress, reality tv star and PETA activist Pamela Anderson is no fan of Sarah Palin."
Yes,stars across the globe are banding together to sign a petition saying Palin is bad for their business.
Why?
Men like her. Women like her. There goes the neighborhood.

Joe Sudbay: McCain opposed Biden's legislation to stop charging rape victims for sexual assault exams
Okay, this issue gets bigger by the hour… Now, the issue has moved beyond just Sarah Palin charging rape victims for rape kits (i.e., intrusive forensic rape exams, exams that are needed to prove the rape and find the rapist). It now involves McCain and Joe Biden. …the McCain campaign turned that "lipstick on a pig" line into a two-day story—and it was about nothing. This is a real issue that affects the health and safety of women in America. …
Biden has been a champion in the effort to end domestic violence. I know this first-hand from my work on the Board of the National Network to End Domestic Violence. Biden championed the effort to stop charging rape victims for exams after they'd been sexually assaulted. John McCain voted against Biden's efforts -- repeatedly. Like his running mate, John McCain wanted to charge rape victims for exams.
Jed Lewison has uncovered the details:
In 1994, John McCain voted against legislation -- pushed through Congress by Joe Biden -- that helped put an end to the practice of charging rape victims for sexual assault exams.
Twisted as it may sound, charging victims for a forensic exam was a real problem. For example, as AMERICAblog has documented (and the media is now reporting), when Sarah Palin was mayor of Wasilla, the town charged rape victims for the exams.
Biden's legislation required that state, local, and Indian governments provide the rape exams to victims free of charge as a condition of receiving federal funds under the Violence Against Women Act. In 2000, Alaska finally passed state legislation in order to qualify for federal funding.
McCain not only opposed Biden's legislation, but also has voted against funding it as recently as October 2007.

Did you know:
Washinton Monthly: Rape Exams
As Steve noted earlier, when Sarah Palin was mayor, Wasilla used to charge rape victims for their forensic exams. It's abhorrent, especially when you note that as mayor of Wasilla, Sarah Palin had no problem raising money to build a sports center, but drew the line at paying for rape exams.
But there are two points that are worth underscoring… Not collecting this evidence means significantly lowering your chances of convicting the man who did it. …Not collecting the evidence that would put rapists behind bars means more rape victims in the future. You'd think that $5,000 to $14,000 a year would be a small price to pay for putting violent sex offenders behind bars. Apparently, Sarah Palin disagrees.
Second, Alaska had to ban this practice in order to qualify for funding under the Violence Against Women Act, which was, of course, sponsored by Joe Biden.

Yeah, Obama is falling back on his strengths: pop-media. He is/was the pop-cultured candidate after all, the first one ever. It's why so much of his support resides in those who live and breath pop culture. Solutions to problems are always easier in the movies, on TV, in blogs, in text message ALERTS, on day time talky shows. Many Americans gets their values from such things. As the McCain/Palin phenom is showing, many don't. It's looking like a majority don't.

and McCain's going to be on "RACHEL RAY" and "THE VIEW" today... but that's different, Jake? McCain's allowed to be on these shows, but not Obama.
I see your point.

Deb.
Question was asked if Sarah Palin will support Georgia NATO membership. She said Yes. Then Charle asked if after Georgia becomes NATO member will US will go to war with Russia, if Russia attack Georgia.
She said "Perhaps", and she is right. that doesn't mean use of military force.
Again from Article 5:
The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.
And also we all know that US supported "freedom fighters", but it was when USSR invaded Afghanistan. It has nothing to do with Osama Bin Laden. He wasn't in any commanding position at that time. I should know, I am from former Soviet Union and I did my 2 years of service in Soviet Army in Afghanistan 1983-1985.

So Palin gave correct answer ?
Georgia is NOT a NATO member! And thus Article five means nothing.
"PALIN TALKS ABOUT INVADING RUSSIA
US-RUSSIA WAR OVER GEORGIA MAY BE NECESSARY"
