A Question for Biden
October 02, 2008 8:20 PM
Kicking in with a contribution to yesterday's Times, our friend Jeffrey Goldberg (Happy 5769, Jeffrey) suggests a question for Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., for tonight's debate.
"Senator Biden, you told me once that, shortly before the 2004 election, you advised John Kerry to respond harshly to a new Osama bin Laden videotape. You described the conversation this way: 'I’m on the phone, I e-mail, I say, "John, please, say three things": "How dare bin Laden speak of our president this way." No. 2, "I know how to deal with preventing another 9/11." No. 3, "Kill him."' You then threw up your hands in disgust and said of Senator Kerry, 'He didn’t make any of it. Let’s get it straight. None of it.'
"This story was entertaining, but it wasn’t strictly accurate. It turned out that you did not, in fact, even speak with Senator Kerry until well after he had issued a vigorous denunciation of bin Laden. This episode is one of several in which you have appeared to exaggerate your importance. Recently, you spoke of being 'shot at' in Iraq. This, too, turned out to be false. Why should voters trust you, after you have made so many provably embroidered assertions?"
Ouch.

Vanessa,
Tell the truth, those are predominately Democrats that were polled, just like in the last debate. I'd like to see you poll Hillary Clinton supporters and they'll give both debates to McCain/Palin, myself included.

j--really? And all the liberals made such a big deal about McCain's health and the scar on his face.
Maybe Biden isn't fit enough to be VP, he could have another Aneurysm.
See how the liberal statements can be turned around?

In a recent interview with
Katie Kouric moose-mom
could not even name a single
major national newspaper that
she actually reads on a regular
basis.
The Republican party is
a severely dumbed down
political outfit. That's why
it has put up incompetent
and unworthy candidates like
McCain and Palin.

ryaple,
How does quoting a pundit like Gergen verbatim without giving the guy credit somehow give credibility to your argument. Fact is the Obama campaign has been in perpetual put-down modality targeting Sarah Palin for the last 5 weeks, denouncing her as a buffoon, and yet she kept pace with a U.S. Senator of 35 years, and successfully managed to get all up in his face, with a cheerful smile all the while. She was a class act, and all Biden did was to steer clear of his usual policy wonkedness. Biden was not the least bit impressive.

Have you not seen the polls?
CNN Biden 51 Palin 36
CBS Biden 51 Palin 24
The Obama team: 2-0

Let's move the party to Jake's new post "Fact Checking."

At 11.25 am on December the 22nd, the Germans ask the Commander at Bastogne to surrender. General McAuliffe's answer, though short, was heard loud and clear and became the rallying cry that echoed throughout the military and the world.. The message was simply "NUTS"
This election is one for the history books however the outcome...my response to anything other than the election of Obama-Biden is simply this, "FUDGE".

tonight palin did better than she did with katie c. but she did not prove she could be vp, and surely not potus.
but she did do a lot better in debate than george bush did.
at least the media did not hound biden to "dummy down" as they did with gore when he had to debate bush.
gore dum down-and bush was still a mess.
but bush won, because the average american said "he is just like me, he is the guy i would want to have a beer with"

Debate analysis is hilarious on these networks! Fox will support McCain, but does have divergent opinons to argue and debate. MSNBC will have Mr. Profile shot Olberbore and that other "guy" Maddow on. They never have opposing views on their shows. Olbermann can't take a debate on the issues, h would not even go to the rep. convention. He is the biggest blowhard wimp! Biden reminds me of that guy you meet is always trying to tell you about that big fish he caught even know he doesn't own a pole! Regardless of your politics Mccain and Palin are more common folk and people you could have a beer with and share a joke. Obama and Biden are stiff with no sense of humor at all! I don't think biden is corrupt like Obama, but he's a northeastern elitist who thinks govt. will best spend your money! Lets see what 850 billion dollars will get us!

s adams,
it is not botox, biden had a tumor on the brain, and had surgery.
the scar near the eye is from the surgery.
but what does that have to do with the price of gas? or anything else for that matter.

No, she was speaking directly to the American viewer and we felt that.
Biden thought the teleprompter would show up on his shoe.

Palin can't the mustard. She
doesn't have it. She wasn't
at all impressive in the
debate. She may be OK for
the dumbed down Republican
Party members.
Posted by: anon | Oct 3, 2008 12:20:09 AM
For a minute i thought palin was reading from a teleprompter.
you can tell she had been coached, and was remembering her talking points.
Gosh Darn it, McPalin needs to go.
I hope mccain will soon give up pa, and ohio, as he did michigan.

How about this gaffe from tonight's debate (one of many): Biden stated with great pomposity and authority that Hezbollah had been kicked out of Lebanon and implied that the Bush administration had bungled and let them back in. WHAT?!? In your mind maybe, Joe Biden. Hezbollah has never been kicked out of Lebanon. In fact, that was one of Israel's objectives in the war two years ago but they failed. And this guy is a foreign policy expert?!!?
Posted by: petee | Oct 3, 2008 12:17:39 AM
Foregin Policy is supposed to Biden's greatest asset for the ticket. Palin mocked Biden/Obama in Iraq, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Palin rocks

Biden did not know what hit him. Let Sarah be Sarah - McCain Handlers need to leave her alone. let her go to the people.

The 36 years in senate made Joe Biden a genius - give me a break - stretching the truth is all he has done. The Gaffe Master - shot in Afghanistan, FDR on TV are some of it.
Better than that - who has visited all the 57 states in USA - Only Barack.
what a pair

You don't have to have the title like Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations to show your experience in foreign affairs. Of course, with such a title one would expect to at least hold one session before getting bored and running for president, but I digress.
It does take conviction, patriotism and a willingness to do what is necessary regardless of what group you're talking to or what party you are. Of course, McCain could always hire Obama's 300 out of work advisers if he gets into a jam.

The BAILOUT!! I agree with the earlier post. We need to FIRE every bonehead Senator that voted for the trillion dollar bailout. And the House votes tomorrow. Fire those that vote for it too!! Democrat or Replublican!! The debt will only delay the carnage, not prevent it. Japan's recession lasted a decade because the government kept interferring. Yes, my 401 has lost money just like everyone's, but let's get back to expansion!! Let the dog die, and let's move on. My Georgia Senators didn't listen and I will fire them come November. I hope the Representatives listen to the warning! At a trillion dollars, that is enough money to give each homeowner $92,000. I will stand by my mailbox for my check...oh wait, I am not an overpaid wall street zillionaire....
