Anchorage Paper Slams Palin for 'Orwellian Spin' on Troopergate Report

October 14, 2008 7:51 AM

An editorial in today's Anchorage Daily News says that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin could have said, in response to the Troopergate report:

"I'm gratified that the report confirmed what I said all along, that I had the authority to terminate Walt Monegan as public safety commissioner. I absolutely disagree that I violated state ethics law. In repeatedly complaining about trooper Mike Wooten, Todd and I were not pursuing a personal vendetta. We were trying to protect the integrity of the Alaska State Troopers from having an arrogant, almost-out-of-control law-breaker in their ranks. Because the action we were seeking was in the public interest, not purely our personal interest, there is no ethics law violation."

But instead, the paper says, "Palin's reaction to the Legislature's Troopergate report is an embarrassment to Alaskans and the nation. She claims the report 'vindicates' her. She said that the investigation found 'no unlawful or unethical activity on my part.' Her response is either astoundingly ignorant or downright Orwellian. ... If she had actually read it, she couldn't claim 'vindication' with a straight face. ... You asked us to hold you accountable, Gov. Palin. Did you mean it?"

We looked at Palin's flatly false assertions about the report on this blog on Sunday.

You say: "To be clear: THERE HAS BEEN NO OFFICIAL FINDING AT ALL ABOUT GOVERNOR PALIN'S ACTION."

If the findings of the report do not substantiate Ms. Palin's abuse of power, then how can they be claimed on the other hand to have exonerated her of "any legal wrongdoing … any hint of any kind of unethical activity there,” as she so falsely claims?

Sorry, Jon. You can't have it both ways. Perhaps it is really you (and not us, as you advised and admonished) who needs to read both sides of the argument before jumping to conclusions.

Palin is a liar, plain and simple. This woman is not only hypocritical but also a real dummy with no grey matter between her ears. Yet she was elected Governor and possible the future VPOTUS/POTUS! Well that only confirms how stupid the American voters have become.

When faced with the choice of electing a Harvard graduate who finished at the top of his class vs. an idiot who finished at almost the very bottom of his class, we are having a difficult time choosing. Can someone please tell me what is wrong with this country????

Reusel,

You have all the information incorrect about the legislative investigation. I am a registered Republican trying to decide which candidate I will vote for. But I try hard not to be blinded by dishonesty because of any party loyalty. Please read an earlier blog from me. First of all I have followed investigation since Sarah Palin selected that Friday morning. I have whole police investigation PDF files, other agency/government documents, emails written, divorce court transcript, on and on, etc.

(1)Hollis French - Democrat - was voted to be chairman by bipartisan legislators 10 Republicans and 6 Democrats when 100% of legislators Republicans and Democrats voted to begin investigation July, 2008 -this was before Sarah chosen as Vice President - French made one mistake by speaking in political tones to media, when criticized, he apologized and backed off. Big mistake. Since then all has been pretty secret, except post release findings. I found only complaints were coming from Palin-McCain.
(2)COST INVESTIGATION - actually cost $75,000. But legislature did approve $100,000. All legislators agree outside private attorney they knew should be hired. Cost is unfortunate. But any official who abuse their position must go through this process. I agree this is aa waster of taxpayers money. But this should be addressed to Sarah Palin. She abused her position and the faith of all Alaskans she is to serve.
(3)INVESTIGATIVE ATTORNEY - REPUBLICAN - Steven Branchflower was voted to be hired by all legislators as he had worked in Alaska. Brnchflower is a Republican.
(4)ALASKA LAW - Palin has possible right to fire Police Commissioner Walt Monegan. Some legal issues remain to be resolved. Certain laws were broken.
(5)FINE OF $5000 YOU MENTIONED - Not necessarily some Alaska laws were broken that Branchflower did not address. Findings were submitted to Ethics Board for review. Legislature was aware Ethics Board is appointed by Sarah Palin. Possible conflict of interest may exist for Sarah.
(6)ABUSE OF POWER COMMITTED BY SARAH PALIN FOR PRESSURING PERSONALLY/ORDERING/ENCOURAGING GOVERNMENT HEADs/HER ADMINISTRATION TO PRESSURE FIRING OF HER FORMER BROTHER INLAW TROOPER WOOTEN - FINDING OF LEGISLATIVE INVESTIGATION - THIS IS INVESTIGATION - NOW IT GOES TO NEXT LEVEL
(7)WORST IS STILL TO COME. TROOPERGATE CONTINUES ON. TOP ATTORNEYS ARE SCRAMBLING FOR THE HIGH PROFILE CASES. THESE ATTORNEYS HAVE READ THE REPORT AND FEEL ALL IS SERIOUS. MORE TO COME- AND IT'S NOT PARTISAN. ABUSE OF POWER WAS COMMITTED BY SARAH PALIN, HER ADMINISTRATION, AND POSSIBLY OTHER GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES,ETC. WOOTEN AND MONEGAN HAVE ALREADY FILED THIS WEEK. ALASKA LAWS WERE BROKEN THAT WERE NOT MENTIONED BY STEVEN BRANCHFLOWER. At this point doesn't make any difference of Ethics Board finds she did nothing wrong. Law suits are coming because other Alaska laws have been broken. So now we wait.

Good luck!! Hope this helps

A Kangaroo Court Report?

Hollis French (a pro-abortion, Obama supporter) used $100,000 tax-payers money to get some "pre-chosen headlines words" into a report to create his pre-announced "October Surprise"

The "law" used was one which carries only a maximun fine of $5,000 - an ethics law made to discourage public servants from being corrupt and receive payment for favours. Gov. Palin obviously did not receive any thing.

Gov. Palin had governor's right to hire/fire. She did not even fire the Public Safety Commissioner. He resigned on his own after refusing a transfer.

More reason not to vote for "pro-abortion" candidates like Obama.

This is a truly horrendous moment in our history.

We have a wreck in our financial policies and procedures and the insurance company is still USATP (United States of America Tax Payers).

We have a president who thinks he should be remembered as a great president, but will be remembered as the enigneer on the trainwreck of our fiancial system, moral system, our system of freedom and privacy and leaps and dances on our naval aircraft carriers in glee after dropping bunker busting bombs in civilian areas of Iraq and declares that only the United States has the right to invade make war without invitation. If that was all maybe we would still recover without much effort, . . . . but now we have a maverick who only voted with the president 90% of the time using the same lines, we will stay in Iraq we will continue to spend 3-5 billion per month in Iraq and by the way lets give those with money left 50 billion dollars in tax credits and reduce taxes on those with money left take more of the money of those in the middle and lower brackets, because we known they don't make policy or help create jobs.

I am deeply frightened for my children and grandchildren. Gene Hook

I doubt we will change the thinking of few who lean toward socialism and the political left Marxists, but hopefully we will energize good and honest people to go to the polls in record numbers this November

--------

Yeah, you probably won't influence all those "Marxists" out there...but idiotic comments like this do nothing to sway those of us with open minds and no party affiliation.

Your party just spearheaded the effort to socialize our banking institution. And yet the left is full of "Marxists?"
The left is morally corupt when right wing, anti-gay senators are getting blow jobs in airport bathrooms?

Time to crawl out from underneath your ideological rock and get a grip on reality. It's hard for me to vote Republican when all I hear from that party are a bunch of contradictory talking points that stand logic on its head.

Posted by: nic | Oct 14, 2008 4:04:30 PM

I am tired of seeing good and honest people discredited,

--------

*Yawn* Ray...it was a bipartisan committee that launched the probe. Don't you repubs believe staunchly in individual accountability? Or does that only have to do with your argument against welfare mothers and aids victims?

The more you argue this one, bud, the more credibility your party loses. Time to face the facts and pay the piper. Your party is a mess, no matter how you try to deflect the criticism.

Posted by: nic | Oct 14, 2008 3:52:47 PM

No wonder most of us don't trust ABC, NBC, MSNBC, and CNN to have ingegrity when reporting the news.

------------

Hahahaha...my god, it's the whole world vs you poor, persecuted Republicans, isn't it? You're pathetic.

Posted by: nic | Oct 14, 2008 3:49:15 PM

Orwellian is the exact word to describe the entire Republican agenda. Republicans allow more air pollution and call it the "Clean Skies Act," They allow clearcutting of our national forests by big lumber and call it the "Healthy Forests Act" They gut the EPA of authority to enforce water standards and amend regulations regarding water pollutants by way of the "Clean Water Act"
The "Patriot Act" allows Big Brother to eavesdrop on our phone conversations, find out what books we check out of a library, what web sites we visit, and otherwise violate the hell out of our fundemental civil rights.

Its all "doublespeak"

Is it any surprise that Palin says she is happy to be cleared by a report which finds she abused her power and committed ethical violations?

Is it any surprise that McCain claims to be the strongest supporter of veterans groups when they all rate him very low for FAILING to support veterans legislation?

Is it any surprise that Palin says she opposed earmarks when she sought more than any other american governor?

Is it any surprise that McCain criticizes Obama for having received contributions from Freddie Mac when his own campaign manager was the leading lobbyist for both Fannie and Freddie to oppose the very regulation McCain claims to have tried to impose - and was still receiving payments until two months ago?

Is it any surprise that Palin claims foreign policy experience when in fact she has absolutely none?

Republicans also exhibit another Orwellian concept: "groupthink" that is, an inability to think independently, instead accepting without question whatever they are told by republican leaders to think. This is why we have people out there who still think Obama is a muslim (not), or an arab (not) or a terrorist (not) or a socialist (not).

On and on -

Does Palin know how to read the report? Or she is just one typical politician.

The world is far more complicated than the state of Alaska. I just don't think Palin is ready for the national stage.

Sarah Palin Troopergate Probe is widening per Newspaper in Alaska today. Multiple Ethics Complaints have been lodged. Sarah Palin investigation found she abused her power as Governor of Alaska. Her administration was encouraged to commit illegal acts of pressure. They are being investigated. Trooper Wooten's Union Attorney is submitting additional claim to their original ethics complaint following results of investigation. Ex-Police Walt Monegan's attorney has filed for hearing with Ethics Board regarding damage to his reputation by Sarah Palin and her administration when he always had record of exemplary work record for 33 years as a police chief.

I watched top attorneys on TV being interviewed. They read investigation results and felt worst was yet to come for Sarah Palin. They were excited about all the information, emails, etc that Sarah Palin and her administration and her personally appointed Attorney General Colberg with held from investigation. They declared several laws was absolutely broken !!! High profile case for high profile attorneys now!! They predicted worst is coming!!

Sarah Palin is lying!! She did same as mayor of Wasilla!! Go to Anchorage Daily News, plus other Alaska town newspapers, website blogs sites. Some sites are pro-Palin and some are anti-Palin. Reading all helps understand and see the truth.

I am actually Registered Republican. But I do investigate to find truth. Honesty is important to me. I am appalled at Sarah Palin and John McCain's actions in Alaska. They blamed Democrats and Barack Obama for investigation!! Sorry I found 100% of legislature voted for investigation in July, 2008 before Sarah selected. Investigative Committee and chair who was Democrat was voted for by legislators. National Republicans then exerted pressure upon Alaska Republicans and that prompted 6 Republicans to file suit to stop but judge ruled investigation legal, then at appeal level ruled again declared legal. Attorney General Colberg filed to stop witnesses subpoenaed by legislators - judged ruled they must testify. Legislators were originally worried about possible bias for Sarah Palin by Ethics Board as their positions are appointed by Sarah Palin. Problems with Sarah Palin have been going on. And this has nothing to do with FBI investigating since 2004 of Alaska corrupt politics. FBI only is conduction investigation out of Washington, not Alaska Government. FBI is attempting to clean up Alaska Government. So far 11 Republican 0 Democrats indicted. Present serving legislators were cleared by FBI. These legislators were concerned about Sarah Palin being corrupt. I see Democrats are way outnumbered by Republicans(10-6) for this legislative investigation. Barack Obama has never ever commented about investigation. Republicans and Democrats are both upset in Alaska.

I am shocked at Sarah Palin's actions. And she continues to have audacity to claim she did nothing unethical.

TRUTH - investigation find she violated Ethics Law for continuing to pressure herself/knowingly allowed her husband who used easy access to government heads & records, etc.- was in office 50% of time/knowing encouraged and asked to pursue to have her brother inlaw a State Trooper fired for personal reasons.

Sarah and Todd Palin's stance Trooper Wooten was dangerous are legally unsupported. These claims were only verbal claims made by Sarah Palin Family in 2005. No 911 calls placed when incidents occurred. Per court testimony of sister of Sarah no physical abuse existed. Trooper Wooten is now divorced 4x. Sarah Palin's sister divorced 2-3 x. No evidence legally sound - no audios, pictures, no video, no other witnesses for danger claims against Wooten. Strange as we are a modern technology society?? Would have been easy to catch Trooper Wooten if he continued to be problem. Think logically and analyze here!!! Divorce Trial Judge warned Palin Family x 3 to stop vendetta 2005-2006. Palin's actions of decreasing her own personal security as Governor conflicts with someone who is scared. Off duty activities of Sarah Palin did not support actions of scared person who is in danger. Off duty activities of Todd Palin and family did not support family that is scared for their safety. No other complaints against Wooten as dangerous filed against Wooten. Trooper Wooten has his problems as a Trooper and husband, but they did not include violence complaints by anyone except Palin Family verbal complaints.

CLAIM MOOSE KILLING CLAIM WITHOUT A PERMIT -3 years old when Sarah Palin filed complaints to DPS 2005 - wife had permit but asked husband (Trooper Wooten) to kill. Wooten killed moose. Moose taken to father inlaws house(same person Wooten was to have threatened). Father inlaw helped butcher - Father inlaw's family(Sarah's parents) and Sarah Palin family received and ate moose. Claim was substantiated by police investigation and Trooper Wooten suspended for 10 days. Palin family not pursued for their involvement in this illegal activity. Legally they most definitely can face legal police action.

WOOTEN TAZERED STEPSON CLAIM - 2 years old when claim lodged by Sarah Palin to DPS 2005. Trooper Wooten was an instructor for Tazer. He was giving demonstration for children. Stepson was 12 yo. His wife(Sarah's sister) was in house and knew what was going on. Wooten set Tazer in training mode, put on training clips, even decreased settings to 1 sec(not usual 5 sec), and lowest mode setting. Shock would have been like hitting your funny bone. Precautions were taken. One shot only done. Son was fine. Trooper Wooten showed very poor judgment. This is a big problem. Nothing happened and was discarded until Palin Family decided to find anything detrimental against Trooper Wooten. They found this 2 year old incident they could use. This claim was substantiated during police investigation and Trooper Wooten suspended from duty for 10 days.

DRIVING WITH OPENED ALCOHOL IN CARE CLAIM - A neighbor close to Wooten's wife and parents of Sarah Palin filed complaints they saw Wooten take beer from refrigerator, open it, and drive one block in his patrol car to his house. They did not see him drink while driving. This claim was substantiated in police investigation and Trooper Wooten disciplined by 10 day suspension.

TROOPER WOOTEN THREATS AGAINST FAMILY CLAIMS - police investigation found no legal substantiati0on for claim. No sound legal evidence. No other filed complaints by anyone else Wooten was dangerous. No others complaints closely related at all.

NOTE - 2005 Sarah Palin sent email to DPS lodging 30+ complaints against Trooper Wooten. Results of police investigation supported only 3 of all the claims. No other complaints existed or nor were anymore filed against Wooten relating to any continued danger. Divorce Custody case is still presently in court. Palin Family have continued pursuing vendetta against Wooten. It appear by many documents as proof they want to have Wooten fired and cause his reputation ruined.

Trooper Wooten can be a problem, but Sarah Palin and her family should have pursued in the courts. What Sarah Palin did/allowed was abuse of power as Governor of Alaska.

Worst is sure to come!!!!! She is most definitely guilty - abuse of power. As found. Also reference all history of problems as mayor of Wasilla.
She has unique knack of appearing enticing and honest. Unfortunately I have found connecting dots lots of problems damaging her exist.

Here is a copy of comments I just sent to
about an article by Jake Tapper, 'Anchorage Paper Slams Palin for "Orwellian Spin" on Troopergate Report' dated Oct 14, 2008 7:51 AM.

I am tired of seeing good and honest people discredited, while corrupt members of government (like Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, Chuck Schumer and others) get a "free-pass." It is time to "Stand-Up for America" while we can.

You can "go to the bank" knowing that electing corrupt and dis-honest people, especially when they become a majority, will result in the destruction of our way of life, as our "founding fathers" were inspired to help provide, when they set out "to form a more perfect union." Let's work to put our country back on course as "one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

You may want to go to the ABC News website above and post your own blog. Perhaps they will remove comments they don't like, as NPR (National Public Radio) and NOW (The National Organization for Women) did recently with poll results that didn't line-up with their intent.

You can read my "signed" post at the above link. I doubt we will change the thinking of few who lean toward socialism and the political left Marxists, but hopefully we will energize good and honest people to go to the polls in record numbers this November. We need to be willing to speak up in defense of what we believe is right.

Thanks, Ray

PS: I just checked and ABC News has already removed my "signed post" - it was there when I first checked it a few minutes ago - I just clicked on the link to let you know the time it was posted. How about that for their lack of credibility? Ray
It is clear "lack of integrity" rests with the political left who use "argumentum-ad-holmium" (dis-credit the person - dis-credit their argument) at every opportunity. I have never heard such hatred and vitriol as what comes from politicians and supporters of political left leaning candidates. Writers like Jake Tapper, and ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and MSNBC are not credible in reporting, especially when their left leaning, socialist/Marxist commitment is so clear.

Anyone who thinks electing Barack Obama, and putting more democrats into the Senate and House of Representatives will restore confidence and prosperity to our nation, is greatly mis-taken. It is clear these democrat candidates do not support our troops or our nation, and will work to change The Constitution of the United States and our culture.

The only candidates for President who have the integrity to state their true position on issues are John McCain and Sarah Palin. Remember, "you can tell more about a person from the way they live, than by what they say."

The only enemy we currently have to fear is the one from with-in. The socialist/Marxist leaders back in the 1960's recognized and committed their supporters to get in positions where they could control media, education, courts and legislators. Actions by the liberal left media, educators, judges and polititians confirm they have had great success.

Wake-up America, before you find yourselves in a socialist, Marxist society. Let's work to turn this country around, by prayerfully electing and supporting, good and honest men and women to represent us like John McCain and Sarah Palin, and send those who resent good and honest people back home for retraining. (That includes all in the media, education and courts who are bent on destroying our culture and God fearing way of life.

It's nice to know that the Anchorage Daily News is ow part of the "elitist MSM" the rightwing nuts have been screaming about. How about some reality-based politicians for a change?

Posted by: thebob.bob | Oct 14, 2008 12:07:11 PM

Maybe if Palin sits down and gives an interview with a respected reporter...say Charles Gibson or Katie Couric...she could explain her answers on this a bit better....

Palin feels she needs to answer to no one. Same as Cheney. So, if she does not have to answer to anyone she alone determines whether she is right or wrong on an issue. Black and white, and never reflect on maybe because reflection is weakness...At least Cheney had foreign policy experience. Palin is just a sham..

Posted by: indy_voter | Oct 14, 2008 11:55:48 AM

Todd Palin was the culbrit behind the investigation. He was not elected to any governmental office. He now argues that he has a right to set personnel policy in the governor's office. He has a right as the first gentleman. He arranged meetings to meet with commissioners as the first gentleman and to set the policies of government. This Todd person thinks that he can run the government as the spouse of the Governor. The Palin family has some serious issues with authority and power. They are not mavericks they are just plain power hungry individuals who don't care about anything but their pocketbooks.

Posted by: Democrat from New York | Oct 14, 2008 11:47:02 AM

Yes, Palin’s put an Orwellian spin on the report. So has the media, which as usual when it comes to McCain, Palin and Republicans is trying to see the glass as half empty as possible. You’d think she was going to jail or being impeached instead of possibly facing a fine of up to $5000.

I also wonder how many who are so concerned about this would say that Bill Clinton was impeached “for sex” rather than for perjury.

Posted by: Erika | Oct 14, 2008 11:42:57 AM

Palinslist,

Being associated with the Alaskan Independence Party isn’t the same as being associated with communists/Marxists. It isn’t against democracy and capitalism (but instead, sees the government as grown too big and controlling, and as against freedom), and isn’t subversively promoting revolution but openly using peaceful democratic means to achieve its ends, which is merely self-determination. As its Wikipedia entry notes, that is primarily “reduction of governmental intrusion in the private lives of its citizens with adherence to the founding documents of the United States.” For some members, that’s also meant wanting to secede from the U.S., but again, by democratic means. In Canada, Quebec was allowed to vote on whether it would remain in the nation. And one of Alaska’s former governors was elected from the party, although he returned to the Republican party, I believe.

Posted by: Erika | Oct 14, 2008 11:36:08 AM

I'm still waiting for the liberal media to report on Palin's true allegiance to the Alaskan Independence Party.

The AIP. The party whose leader often talked about how much he hated the United States of America.

The AIP. Whose conventions Sarah Palin often attended, as recently as THIS YEAR--while she was Governor of one of the states of the Union--and she would praise their "good work."

The AIP. Where the conventions were full of hatred for the American Government.

The AIP. Who Todd Palin was an on again/off again member of.

The AIP. When guns, hate and racism just aren't enough.

The AIP. Come on, liberal media!
Get on it!!

nononesense08:
Congress has been controlled by Democrats for 2 + years. They've controlled all the financial services, banking, regulatory and oversight committee's and caucuses. The only piece of finance legislation that Congressional Democrats supported was the egregious revision of the bankruptcy laws to prevent those filing bankruptcy from discharging credit card debt. And that, was primarily shepherded through the Senate by Joe Biden. Both party's are responsible for this financial fiasco, but Democrat's more so for their refusal to act when they knew the ship was sinking. Our economy has been tanking (at least to the extent that the media acknowledges) since Democrats took control of Congress. Has anybody else noticed that the more Obama's polling shows he's up, the worse the economy and Wall Street got?

That is a lie.

Posted by: Maureen | Oct 14, 2008 11:08:24 AM

Either they have enough evidence to prosecute Governor Palin, or they don't. Anything less is political spin and doesn't matter. The whole point of making certain positions in government subject to the will of the Governor is simply a reflection that the will of the people not be stymied by petty bureaucrats. Right or wrong, the Governor of any state has the right to choose who works for them. Often it's cronies or friends who will act in furtherance of the Governor's political agenda. This isn't unfair or crooked, simply a pragmatic approach to governance. It defeats the prupose of electing a Governor to lead the state, if petty bureaucrats and appointee's can use their position (and the power of the civil service) to undemine or stymie the policies that citizens, by virtue of their vote for the Governor, desire to see implemented. If they have enough facts and evidence to proceed in prosecuting Governor Palin for malfeasance or abuse of power, they should get to it immediately. That this "newspaper" chose to unwisely use it's bully pulpit in an effort to "convict" before a trial, is a symptom of the bias of the papers publishers and editors, and has little to do with the laws and governance of Alaska Citizens. No wonder print media is dieing!

Maverick means liar in the McCain camp. My eight year old son knows better. I'm astounded that after watergate, Bush lying about WMD, etc, that the Republicans still operate on the same platform. Hopefully Americans learn that the Republicans are all about scare tactics (rightfully named: Bush tactics) and yet the Republicans, at all government levels, continue using the same platform that now sickens most Americans. If they don't see the light, we can add stupidity to their platform.

Americans who work for a living are tired of being duped by Conservative lies be it from a Republican's mouth, Fox news or conservative talk radio. They all spew the same distortion, hypocrisy (99% of the things they accuse others of they do themselves).

Grow up Republicans, but then again, you may be doing the Democrats a favor by identifying yourself with Bush tactics, You need new material -- try the truth and sticking to the issues that matter to middle class.

When asked by Katie Couric what newspapers and magazines she reads to form her political world view, she could have said, "You may not realize it, but the Anchorage Daily News is a fine newspaper with a lot of integrity."

By the way, in looking at the lead story on the ADN site today, it looks like the State Personnel Board is investigating other complaints against Palin.

Posted by: Danny | Oct 14, 2008 10:27:59 AM

Once again the source with the best information on Sarah Palin [next to Jake, of course] is her local newspaper.

My guess is, after she loses this race, she'll have problems getting re-elected in Alaska in 2010.

Posted by: dripdrop | Oct 14, 2008 9:56:50 AM

nononsense08,

Palin wanted to campaign all over the US. And she hired legislators to block the investigation instead of going to Alaska to testify.

The investigators were selected by the PREDOMINANTLY Republican bi-partisan board, mind you (10 GOP, 4 Dems)>

Posted by: Grey Matter | Oct 14, 2008 9:35:34 AM

There are two interesting things in the ADN today. The first is, as mentioned their editorial - whether you agree with the report or not, Palin clearly lied about what it said (wither that or she didn't understand it). The other is about the new ethics investigation into Palin being expanded. Note that the 2nd investigation was started by Palin, and being run by a Republican only committee. Palin's attempt to stop the original investigation has apparently spawned a new and potentially more damaging investigation.

She is a pathological liar.

This so-called report from Branchflower STANK right from the beginning, right when French PROMISED AN OCTOBER SURPRISE. How could anyone already form a conclusion before the investigation ended?

"If President Clinton signed it, then Mr Bush and the Republican Congress had 6 years to fix it.."

LOL. Both parties share the responsibilities of the deregulation mess. Don't try to deny it. It makes you look childish.

"Hey then why didn't she testify? That could easily clear up some misconceptions that AMERICA is concerned about."

Did you see what her lawyers said? Here it is, AGAIN!

"Mr. Branchflower refused to allow the Governor to confront her accusers and cross examine them. He refused to allow her lawyer to attend witness deposition."

Will you testify if you ARE NOT ALLOWED to confront your accusers and your lawyers ARE NOT ALOOWED to attend witness deposition?

Again, read that rebuttal. There is many interesting points in it.

It has become so bad the Maverick family doesn't even want John McCain to use their family name he's such a disgrace and so is the Republican party. No one wants another Republican in the White House for the next four years. They've ruined our country's moral and prosperity and Mr. McCain is a part of that. The new winner of the Nobel Economics Prize Paul K. was awarded because he found de-regulation (which ALL CONSERVATIVES HAVE SUPPORTED) ruined the WORLD ECONOMY. If President Clinton signed it, then Mr Bush and the Republican Congress had 6 years to fix it.. did they? No because de-regulation is right up the conservative alley... And they wonder why Bush has such a low approval rating? Because he is a fool and we are the fools who voted him into office. I'm taking responsibility and voting with someone who has a social conscious and not always trying to benefit big business which conservatives do. It's time for the middle class and John McCain has yet to tell America what he plans to do specifically for the middle class. It's a fraud and if you vote for McLame you are voting for the same.

"As the Branchflower essentially concedes, and as Governor Palin has maintained for some time, ONLY THE PERSONNEL BOARD CAN MAKE A LAWFUL DETERMINATION whether the Governor violated the ethics acts. Mr. Branchflower's OPINION is simply that.[...]

To be clear: THERE HAS BEEN NO OFFICIAL FINDING AT ALL ABOUT GOVERNOR PALIN'S ACTION. One man concluded that he was the investigator, the jury and the judge, all in one. Mr. Branchflower refused to allow the Governor to confront her accusers and cross examine them. He refused to allow her lawyer to attend witness deposition. He "investigated" in secret. These are funamental aspects of due process he ignored.[...]

** Hey then why didn't she testify? That could easily clear up some misconceptions that AMERICA is concerned about. She said she would before, but then when the heat was on her the Conservatives made her unavailable to the media for those who are actually concerned about this issue. Its preposterous that the McCain Campaign keeps lying boldly to our faces and its okay.

Posted by: Liberal In VA | Oct 14, 2008 8:49:50 AM

CNN and Fox will give her a pass because they want people to believe the election is close so people can continue to watch... I'm mad no one is reacting... this fool doesn't get a clue and America doesn't either.

I CAN NOT believe how crazy Sarah Palin is. I think that she really lives in her own reality! She is completely in denial, and is setting a terrible example for her kids. McCain needs to fire her, and send her back to Alaska to shoot a moose. (that's one of the things she is good at) She lies more than anyone I have ever seen. There are three (3) weeks left until Election Day, and keeping her on the ticket is sad. He has run the worst campaign I have ever seen. The poll numbers are still low, and Obama is wondering when McCain will stop pushing the reset button. There is no reason to panic, just sit back and watch the freak show. She is GUILTY of abusing her power, and needs to just face reality. After getting booed at the hockey game, that should have told her everything. Now that idiot Levi is talking to the press. He is dropping out of highschool?! Nice...great pick for Bristol! John McCain was desperate, and did not vet her properly. Now he is paying the price. Tina Fey stated that she will leave EARTH if Palin is elected, and I'll be happy to join her.

Palin sounds a lot like Bush. Everyone of the of scandals that he has perpetrated and every report that came out about it it, he claimed "vindication." Neither has any substance and no judgement.

Posted by: AE | Oct 14, 2008 8:42:36 AM

Democrats really haven't had all that much to say about Palin. They don't need to. Conservatives seem intent on doing it for them.

Conservative writer/columnist Christopher Hitchens today described Palin as "a deceiving and unscrupulous woman utterly unversed in any of the needful political discourses but easily trained to utter preposterous lies and to appeal to the basest element of her audience."

nononsense08,

Sarah Palin lied to your face. AGAIN.

She made specific statements such as 'the report demonstrates I committed no violation of law'.

IN FACT the report says that she "abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110 (a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act".

She said that she opposed the bridge to nowhere.

IN FACT she was an advocate. Went to Ketchikan demonstrate her support during her campaign for governor. Wore the T-shirt.

She said that Obama 'palled around with terrorists'.

IN FACT the associated with the Annenberg Foundation,a highly respected advocate of education reform where well known, respected Republicans, Independents and Democrats talk about our children, how the public schools have failed them, and what to do about it.

IN FACT Sarah Palin is a bald faced liar. IN FACT she only thought of herself when she accepted John McCain's idiotic suggestion that she is in ANY WAY qualified to be president of the United States.

Palin is already an embarrassment for the nation. No one who loves this country could feel good if she should become the nation's Vice President.

Go to CNN, look for the rebuttal from Palin's lawyers. ABC was so afraid of people reading another point of view that they deleted the link I provided. NICE JOB, ABC.

Thank God some newspapers are having the integrity to go after her on this. I posted yesterday that Palin's response was a classic example of "doublethink" - Orwell's term for the wholesale rejection of the truth, and for trying to convince onesself and others of a palpable falsehood. I think Palin is BOTH willfully dishonest and shockingly ignorant. She is a hypocrite and a hack politician.

And WHEN are we going to hear about her connection to the Alaska Independence Party - a SECESSIONIST ORGANIZATION????

Apparently the Anchorage and many people have not read the REBUTTAL from Palin's lawyers.

Briefly, Palin's lawyers concluded that Mr. Branchflower, the INVESTIGATOR in charge, misapplied the ethics acts and overstepped his authority to render his verdict that "Governor Palin abused her power".

I am quoting here an excerpt from the rebuttal from Mrs. Palin's lawyers:

Put bluntly, Branchflower misapplied the Ethics Acts and has sought to create a headline to smear the Governor."

You can get more details at the following link:

Read both sides of the argument before jumping to conclusion.

"...astoundingly ignorant or downright Orwellian."

Funny, isn't it, how these words apply equally to Bush, Cheyney, McCain, and Palin.

By Gov Palin's comments and Sen McCain silence regarding the troopergate results lets me know his decision in selecting Gov Palin as his VP choice was totally political. The GOP ticket is steadily falling.

Posted by: rena | Oct 14, 2008 8:11:50 AM

Palin is dumb and she should not be on anyone's ticket. Too much Drama... The worst VP pick ever and she is happy "winking" like I have fool the world just like I fooled Alaska. This is so unbelievable that words just can't describe it. No one can ever talk about DC or GWB again about being dumb... SP tops all whom ever have been picked before. Just unbelievable

In the future, I believe "maverick" will become a euphemism for "mentally handicapped", as in "Look at that maverick lighting his BBQ with gasoline!"

Posted by: Dirk | Oct 14, 2008 8:05:41 AM

Well, it looks like the national media STILL refuse to grow a pair, and we rely on a local paper from freakin' ALASKA to do their job.

How is it possible that Palin has not been hounded into resigning?? How is this woman not a complete and total travesty? How is this not an epic fail on part of the national press, who continue to report spin?

If this were Biden, we'd be treated to 24/7 screaming for his head. Seriously. Oh, and 24/7 questioning of Obama's judgement.

Palin disqualifies McCain, plain and simple.
