"I'm Voting for Obama and Lee Terry"

October 12, 2008 4:21 PM

This ran in the free weekly paper in Omaha, "The Reader"

Obamaterry_3

The ad reads:

"Obama-Terry Voter, anyone?" I’ll admit it: I’m voting for Obama and Lee Terry. Why? Because I want our officials to work hard, to be honest, exhibit strong ethics and be accessible. That’s Lee Terry. Ever talked with Lee? I have. You ask him questions, you get straight answers. I like that. Please join me in voting for Lee Terry. Paid for by Lee Terry for Congress

Lee Terry is the incumbent REPUBLICAN running for re-election to Congress in Nebraska's second congressional district.

More on what Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., calls "Obamaha" HERE.

So anyway I was discussing the benefits of a diet with olive oil included. I found that if you add it to the clear Italian salad dressing, it goes on almost anything.

On another topic, if you would like to practice cooking with a variety of spices and flavors, consider the simple hot dog. Now most hotdogs are made uniformly and will taste the same each time. And if you experiment a lot, you will make mistakes. But if the combination of cinnamon oil and pickle juice is a disaster, all you are out is the price of inexpensive hotdogs.

Also, I have heard of the race in Omaha. It isn't as simple as all that. Jim Esch almost won last time and had almost no budget, against Terry with a HUGE budget. This time Esch also has a HUGE budget. He is also a former Marine who went to Iraq. But the compromise Terry voted on that reduced the requested spending on injured veterans on a war he voted for, is an interesting conversation.

But who can forget about windows vista. Microsoft doesn't mention the word Vista the way that Republicans don't mention Bush. Ironically, Microsoft gave quite a bit to the Republicans to prevent Democrats from including privacy protection in the system.

How stupid can you be to vote for Obama if Biden is guaranteeing that Obama's weakness and inexperience will draw us into a crisis with our enemies the first 6 month in office.
Do you have a death wish or something?

Letter to Lee Terry:

Thank you for you endorsement of Senator Obama for President. I was surprise when I saw your ad in The Reader (Oct.16-22, 2008 Vol.15 page 36). You give good reasons for your endorsement; hard work, honesty, accessibility and straight answers. I'll still be voting for Jim Esch for Congress but it's good to know you, Jim, and I will be voting for Obama for President.

Like Obama4President said, McCain would seriously loose a debate on guilt by association. The only thing keeping this from the public is Obama's campaign is too smart to take the hit that comes with diverting from the primary message. BUT--if McCain has the audacity to stand face to face with Obama tomorrow night and mention any such association, the American people watching will want Obama to respond.

And respond he will.

McCain's no dummy. He knows he can't win a guilt-by-association fight unless he can somehow make Obama into a Muslim extremist. But he can't say that, he can't even infer it, or that's racist (and it's obviously racist--Obama is no more a terrorist for associating with respected unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers than McCain for associating with unrepentant terrorist G. Gordon Liddy).

All he can say is, "Who is Barack Obama?" and rely on the laziness of the low-information voters to make paranoid conclusions. He can't offer an answer, because when he does ("He a decent family man, a citizen") it totally defuses his argument.

Speaking as the ONLY Omahan on this blog I can tell you OBAMA will pull that democrat into the house. It's a fact. Lee Terry has taken his position for granted. He has never spent time in the inner city and always sent mailings to the uppermiddle class and the subburbs.

Voter turn out in the inner city has not been that great- no one engaged. When Omaha has it's first ever Caucus, the inner city turned out in numbers that shut down the roads. Keep in mind this was during one of the coldest days in Omaha.

Lee has a lot to worry about given the largest population is the inner city and they don't even know who he is!!!

This race will be close and Terry knows the people turning out the vote is the inner city and they all 90% Obama supporters

I don't understand why Republicans will not take great pride in their two-term president and 13-term congress.

It's obvious that Bush is responsible for creating:
- more jobs
- higher wages
- broad-based healthcare
- elimination of abortion
- smaller government
- deregulated fundamental sound economy
- global respect
- budget surplus
- education reform
- more guns on the streets

Actually, that last one we can blame on the liberal media ...

Re: "Quit tying McCain to Bush if you don't want us to tie Obama's associations of Wright, Ayers, Rezko to Obama."

These McCain connections are actually documented and MUCH more direct:
Jim Hensley, Convicted Felon;
G. Gordon Liddy, Convicted Felon;
Charles Keating, Convicted Felon;
Raffaello Follieri, Convicted Felon;
Rick Renzi, Under Indictment;
Rick Davis, Freddie Mac Lobbyist who was still on the payroll until a few weeks ago;
Charles Black, Lobbyist for Dictators;
Richard Quinn, White Supremist;
Pastor John Hagee, Bigot;
Pastor Rod Parsley, Bigot;
Todd Palin, Member of Secessionist Group;
Andrew McCain, Resigned Manager Failed Savings and Loan

There's even more than this... McCain seriously loses the guilt by association battle.

Some Republicans are embarassed to be seen campaigning for Bush-McCain_Palin trio of sorts.

But Republicans are Americans, they can vote whichever way they want to, including for the decent Democrat nominee, just like rabid and nonsensical Hillary voters will vote for Mr. McCain out of spite.

Apparently and fortunately, these are the minority. Look at the polls. It is our right to make things right in America, to protect ourselves by voting wisely. Spite, malice, racial overtones, anger and mob mentality will not get us the solutions we need.

Don't forget at the ballot box or the mail ins, those who lied have been exposed in the campaign.

You are an American--and you can rise above the fray of McCain-Palin lie it all tandem.

Time for Republicans to hate the Nobel Committee yet again: they just awarded the Economics prize to the person who has criticized Bush-Cheney-McCain economic policies the past 8 years. None other than my favorite, Paul Krugman from Princeton University and New York Times. wah wah wah more spin to come from GOP

Posted by: ChandraSF | Oct 13, 2008 12:20:15 PM

Nobody is really going to vote for Obama. This is a big trumped up joke.

I will equate that to be the same as, John McCain really knows how to turn this economy around...

BOTH ARE ILLUSIONS !

This is for Jack 51:

Sir, I am a democrat but my entire family to include my husband, three daughters and numerous relatives are republicans. The bad news for you? They are voting DEMOCRAT! One punch for your assertion: My youngest daughter is a 27-year old female US Army CPT, Company Commander IS VOTING Senator Obama.
Sir, maybe you should read more newspapers and watch credible political shows.

Posted by: stclaire,O 8 | Oct 13, 2008 11:50:05 AM

gregh: You missed the point. Obama is campaigning hard in Omaha as there is a chance he can take an electoral vote out of Nebraska because of the way they allocate their electoral votes.

Posted by: MIguy | Oct 13, 2008 12:33:16 AM

Agreed this ad is a joke, Obama is not even going to come close in Nebraska, he is just shamelessly chasing Republican coat-tails

Posted by: gregh | Oct 13, 2008 12:10:29 AM

S Adams,

Prices are coming down because people are cutting down on their consumption, thereby lessening demand.

That is what Obama has been talking about only to be ridiculed by Drill baby Drill Republicans.

Conservation is something we can all do to immediately impact oil prices.

Drilling may produce oil in a few years with the primary beneficiaries beiung oil companies since we do not ban oil exports or have a national oil company like other countries.

Who's us? Fellow right wingers posing as Hillary supporters?

Posted by: Ryan C | Oct 12, 2008 6:52:38 PM

Again, my post taken down for the second time in response to a blogger below. Quit tying McCain to Bush if you don't want us to tie Obama's associations of Wright, Ayers, Rezko to Obama. Can't play double standard here, bots. McCain is CLEARLY not Bush. They have notorious disagreements thoughout the years...Obama doesn't even have a record to stand on.

"The DNA of the bears is always MORE important"

Hmmm a reference to McCain's fav stump line regarding earmarks.

One problem with that.

MCCAIN VOTED FOR IT!

Hypocrisy thy name is Republican.

Posted by: Ryan C | Oct 12, 2008 6:37:14 PM

Ryan C...the Dems don't want drilling and are not active in alternative energy because they put global warming and the decline of the polar bear before any energy exploration. The DNA of the bears is always MORE important than looking to find alternative energy or drill here and now.
PELOSI, REID AND OBAMA WILL BE THE DOWN FALL OF THIS COUNTRY.

"Democratic Congress drove UP gas prices"

How did they do that? Do they control the weather? Did they send hurricanes into the gulf?

Posted by: Ryan C | Oct 12, 2008 6:21:08 PM

Democratic Congress drove UP gas prices and they are on a break until AFTER THE ELECTION DURING THIS "CRISIS". And THAT'S what our tax $$$ go to?
DEMS OUT.....
McCAIN/PALIN IN.....REFORMERERS WITH A RECORD TO STAND ON!
OBAMA, as McCain says "zilch, zero, zippo, nada".

Another right wing lie bites the dust

"Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama did not urge Iraqi officials to delay a decision on a security agreement with the United States, Iraq's foreign minister told CNN on Sunday.

The statement by Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari refutes a recent published report and a statement by Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin that Obama tried to influence Iraqi politicians negotiating with the United States to score political points."

Posted by: Ryan C | Oct 12, 2008 6:18:05 PM

While McCain succumbed to the forces of fear - Obama remained faithful to the forces of hope and optimism. ...........

Republicans, with Bush and Cheney's leadership, have run the country into the ground. Bush and our federal government under him made sure no one was able to stop the corrupt lenders in the states that resulted in all these foreclosures and eventually brought down Wall Street. Bush made sure specially chosen companies like Halliburton profited from the blood, sweat and tears of our troops in the Iraq War. The war for oil that he forced on America. In his 8 years Bush has brought the country to despair with de-regulation and privatization. Be very afraid of privatization as it means going into unscrupulous hands to be victimized by the greedy. George Soros said this morning that this started with Reagan's policies that were deregulation and anti-government. Without a decent government you have no economy worth anything.

Posted by: Vicki | Oct 12, 2008 6:10:34 PM

Mahye: Gas went UP as soon as Bush took office in 2001. The GOP controlled the whole government.

How man crashes, recessions and depressions do you need before you wake up? Republican economic policies do not work!

An Associated Press report from Kittanning, Pennsylvania, explores the feelings of folks in the struggling steel-and-coal small towns that surround Pittsburgh.
Ruth Ann Michel, 64, told a reporter that her vote for Obama on Nov. 4 will mark the first time in her life that she has voted for a Democrat.
She doesn't particularly like Obama. She simply has grown tired of Republican economics, which she perceives work in favor of corporate executives and wealthy individuals.

Posted by: Blue | Oct 12, 2008 6:02:45 PM

"when the republicans had control of the house gas was low and people had jobs"

You mean in 1990's when Clinton was President?

The job market has been down and gas prices have been high since Bush took over.

Posted by: Ryan C | Oct 12, 2008 6:00:38 PM

THE ANGRY McCAIN/PALIN MOBS are just the final gasp of a failed campaign...

The Republicans are lashing out in the most ERRATIC way against Obama now. In a last DESPERATE and PATHETIC try to maintain their evil hold over the country...

This effort in a MAJOR way is being controlled and funded by the rich and the large corporations, in an effort to hold on to their money and power...

The SAD thing is they are using the rednecks, Klan members and other "lower information" parts of the Republican base to further their movement...

In fact just like the Republicans that post here!

Unfortunately, it isn't going to work this time and finally TRUTH, GOOD an the real AMERICAN WAY is winning in a LANDSLIDE FOR OBAMA!!!!!!

just think back . when the republicans had control of the house gas was low and people had jobs . as quick as the democrats got control gas went sky high and jobs was eliminated . why elect a new demo, so it can get worse . put the repub, back in so maybe it will get better . just think back . i do

Dream on Democrats and Zerobamas....
Nebraska is safe for McCain by 17%...but feel free to spend some more illegal donations and send in ACORN to fill out more illegal registrations. I believe all pizza delivery people SHOULD get 10 votes EACH!!!

There will be lots of republicans who will not vote for McCain. Regarding Obama, it could be a reversal Bradley effet in some swing states. They will say the vote for McCain but will cast a vote for Obama, especially in small towns. Just look at the polls. Republicans a far less enthousiastics for McCain that the democrats are for Obama.

Carole,

No one with a brain takes the Enquirer seriously. Remember, it was the right-wing conservatives like Sean Hannity who said the MSM should have covered the Edwards story bc it ran in the Enquirer. But then, no one with a brain takes Hannity seriously either.

No posts here....no one cares.
Just saw Obama going door to door in an elderly white neighborhood in Ohio...with the bots following him.
The woman opened the door and then shut it on him....he probably said "boo".
They had to coax her out.

The first rats are leaving the ship.
When did it went wrong for McCain I ask myself...

While the Democrats were killing each other during the prime-elections he had time enough to prepare for this election. Time to mold his program and campaign strategy...

What has he done in these months.. nothing. Instead of building bridges to the center he went to the far right side of his party.

What do you find on the extreme side, freaks and nutcases. People like Hannity, Bill O'Reily, Rush Limbaugh, Jerry Falwell. Shouting maniacs.
The most bizarre endorsement was that from Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild. She likes McCain because he isn't an 'elitist'.

McCain's legacy will not be his sacrifice in Vietnam, or his 'maverick' years in the Senate. No, he will be remembered of this negative campaign, a VP which refuses to speak with the press and the economic mess he couldn't address.
Sad way to end a career.

The National Enquirer also said Palin was having an affair with one of the First Dude's business partners and that Track was on drugs.

But hey if right wingers who pretend to be Democrats trust the National Enquirer who are we to say different.

Terry is hoping to avoid voter annoyance over the economy. He should remember that many voters are one issue oriented. For example, Christians only vote for pro-life candidates, small business owners vote Republican, etc. The economy favors Democrats. It may work, but many will not vote for Terry if his endorsement of Obama, ties him to the pro-choice point of view.

Your intimate knowledge of the gay porn industry is fascinating, but I don't see what it has to do with Obama.

The evil stupidity of the Republican party is being exposed and this year America will reject the new Republican ideology once and for all.

If Lee Terry is a decent person, he will re-register as an Independent or a Democrat.

fantastic! gay porn is at least honest, and with the use of condoms- doesn't KILL ANYONE. Make love- not war, has a ring to it doesnt it?

Posted by: Jim | Oct 12, 2008 4:58:00 PM

from the National Enquirer, the publication that leads the msm:

"Terence Bean the one time money czar of gay porn is one of the "bundlers" who has raised $50,000 to $100,000 for Dem Prez candidate Sen. Barack Obama's campaign.

Bean, the first gay on Obama's National Finance Committee, is the sole trustee of the Charles M. Holmes Foundation which owned Falcon Studios, Jock Studios and Mustang Studios - the producers of all male gay porn, according to The New York Post."
