In the Ohio Papers This Morning

October 12, 2008 10:26 AM

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin head to the Buckeye state today, where the latest Ohio Newspaper Poll -- a consortium of the state's eight largest newspapers -- has Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., leading 48-46, with a margin of error of +/- 3.3 points.

The Toledo Blade today endorses Obama, saying "We believe the person best equipped by temperament and intellect to firmly grasp the reins of government and guide it safely forward in these uncertain times is Barack Obama...

"Sen. John McCain, by nature, has shown himself to be incapable of providing the American people with an optimistic vision of the future. Firmly rooted in the failed politics and policies of the past, he cannot guide us on a path he does not see."

The Columbus Dispatch, meanwhile, has some probing questions about the integrity of Ohio's vote:

"Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner made a serious blunder by failing to give county elections boards the names of new voters whose registration records don't match state and federal data. She should comply with a federal court order to release the information within a week instead of appealing the case to the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, as she has said she intends to do...

"By trying to prevent county boards of elections from investigating discrepancies in new voter registrations, she is putting partisan considerations ahead of the public interest in fair elections....In addition to discrediting herself, Brunner's attempt to withhold the data undermines the integrity of the election system."

Sorry, you aren't scaring me by listing a bunch of penniless fringe activists and calling them Obama's pals. I'm too busy worrying about The Carlyle Group, PNAC, TRW, Freddie Mac and Halliburton, actual powerful groups with a bad agenda that all have direct ties to McCain. BOO!

There is no better country than the United States of America. In America we are afford many rights and freedoms that other countries do not have. Our country was made great by great men who loved our country and wanted the best for it, not to promote oneself. In concerns me though that our great nation has citizens that refuse to see what is at stake for our country in the coming months. People this is not about taking sides for your favorite football team. This is our lives, our childrens lives, our future, the working democracy of our country. You must look at the big picture. You must look at facts! The facts are, when a vote is cast for Barack Obama, a vote is being cast for all these people connected to Obama. Can you take that chance? If just one tenth of what you hear about him is true, can you chance it? A vote for Obama means that the great country for which we live and all countries are envious of, will be no more! It will be a socialist country like Russia and France! Too many facts, too many controversies attached to this man! Think of what you felt on September 11th. Remember those people who lived amongst us, with all these ties, they lived and worked amongst Americans, pretending they loved our country, but plotting to overturn and kill everything we are about! Do you want to take that chance with Obama. Not enough is known about him, but what is, is that radical, hate-filled people have been in his life at some point. Some of these people helped get him on his feet and helped jump-start his career, and you think he will not owe them anything! America, please wake up! We must not treat this lightly. As a parent, one thing we tell our children, and our parents told us, "watch who you hang with, they will influence you," or "you are who you surround yourself with!" Ever heard those growing up, have you ever told your child this? Can Obama be different than anyone else in this world, just because you like the way he speaks? He has been influenced! Even when you look at countries and leaders that HATE America, their pick for our President is Barack Obama! Is this not frightening! Look at Hollywood, they have no idea how you struggle in your everyday life to make ends meet and bring up your family. All they want is a society that has no moral code, no accountabilty, so they can continue their corrupt way of life, and you a working individual want to alighn yourselve with such as this? Wake up! Even in the economy, Obama doesn't want to impower people to do for themselves. He wishes to take from you what you have worked for and give it to those who will not work! He wants bigger government! At this point can you even trust any government? The more we do for ourselves, the more we accomplish for ourselves, the more impowered we are. GIVING things away, only makes us dependent, and keeps us beaten down not to climb out for ourselves. The media will never tell you the truth about Obama, so impower yourselves and please for the good of your children, your life, your freedoms you hold because of our great forefathers, you must research for yourself and find our these facts. And pray about it, that you will be led to make the right decision. It will be the most important election you will ever vote in.

palin is a disaster.. not just waiting to happen but unraveling before our very eyes.. McCain is so out of touch with anything but war he is clueless what to do about ANYTHING... EVEN the war!... incompetance cheapr by the Dozen should be their campaign slogan (you know.. add 4 years onto 8)... or how bout.. Stupidity... not just for GW Bush anymore...

Posted by: Levi Cro | Oct 13, 2008 5:26:48 PM

Actually the race card is playing quite well for Sen. Obama. Not only is any criticism of him being touted as being racist it has become whoever doesn't vote for Sen. Obama is a racist. THAT plays on white guilt which is huge! There are millions of white Americans who apparently believe that voting for Sen. Obama will somehow cleanse America's history of slavery and discrimination.

The truth is that a vote for Sen. Obama is a vote FOR Frank Marshall Davis.

A vote for Sen. Obama is a vote FOR Saul Alinsky.

A vote for Sen. Obama is a vote FOR the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.

A vote for Sen. Obama is a vote FOR Father Michael Pfleger.

A vote for Sen. Obama is a vote FOR Tony Rezko.

A vote for Sen. Obama is a vote FOR Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohm Ayers.

A vote AGAINST Sen. Obama is a vote AGAINST ALL of the above.

Posted by: James Danley | Oct 13, 2008 8:19:21 AM

On what planet does playing "the race card" work to Obama's advantage? Republicans have been playing "the race card" for over forty years. I think it's a sign of extraordinary progress that they're now condemning it so fervently.

Posted by: Brooklyn Democrat | Oct 13, 2008 7:49:55 AM

Brooklyn Democrat, I notice that you didn't deny the message. Sen. Obama maybe be portraying himself as a middle of the road Democrat. But he makes Michael Dukakis, Walter Mondale and Jimmie Carter look like, as you would call it, "neo-cons."

Posted by: James Danley | Oct 13, 2008 7:44:35 AM

James -

You mean Stanley Kurtz of the Hudson Institute? The "neo-con" think tank (now there's an oxymoron) whose members have included Richard Perle, Dan Quayle, "Scooter" Libby, and Robert Bork?

Posted by: Brooklyn Democrat | Oct 13, 2008 6:04:20 AM

What's Wrong With America?

My question is this:

If McCain really has experience, what is it exactly? Why hasn't he consistently been running on his experience to really secure the votes for presidency? Why hasn't he really explained is "reform" in government that he is proposing? What areas of the government will he actually reform and on what timeline? How much will it cost the taxpayers? Why does he continue to come up with different ideas about how to fix the financial crisis without providing a succinct plan of action along with costs? Why did he say he really didn't understand economics yet continues to make attempts at solving a problem he doesn't really understand? If he's not a racist, why does he allow his running mate Palin to condone racist comments at rallies and on t.v? If he's such a "maverick" why did he wait until now to really affect change? What change did he really accomplish in the economy, in energy policy, in foreign policies, in saving the middle class money or stimulate the economy?

None of the questions have really been answered. McCain is dangerous. Maverick is code for maniac. Palin is sabotaging McCain's candidacy so she can run in 2012. She's looking to grab her base now so she can run against Hillary in 2012.

This is very dangerous. McCain doesn't care about the country, McCain cares about McCain.

Posted by: amanda | Oct 13, 2008 4:02:27 AM

jamarier, no problem.

You should look up two of Stanley Kurtz's articles, "Inside Obama's ACORN," and "O's Dangerous Pals."

Posted by: James Danley | Oct 13, 2008 1:36:53 AM

we need to vote for change in this election.. go obama 08! we need to give this young man a chance to change the country.and if he cant deliver, believe me he will be out of there in 4 years. by now we have nothing to lose and everything to gain. fresh ideas. fresh policies that work for the middle class and not just the rich unlike mccain.
GO OBAMA!

Posted by: Melissa | Oct 13, 2008 1:01:11 AM

All Mccain is doing right now is throwing things at the wall to see what sticks. he can't talk about the issues because his party has been dead wrong on pretty much all of them for the last 8 years. so they offer distractions and make up lies about obama to distract people and get their focus off the economy. its not going to work this time. not in this election. we need change so desperately and 4 more years or god forbid 8 if mccain is reelected of bush policies would leave our country in ruins. anyone who cares about the future of the country would vote for change. obama and joe biden all the way.

Posted by: Matthew | Oct 13, 2008 12:58:50 AM

some people by nature are fearful of change...no matter how bad, such as the economy, the situation is...racism, sadly, is still alive and well in this country even among the news media...i find it appaling the racist rhetoric that was spewed from the mccain/palin campaign this past week...palin's statement that obama is somehow 'palling around with terrorist' was outrageous!!! 'it's not good for the country'...my question is if ayers is such a terrorist why is he instructing education at the university of illinois? why is the fbi, cia, all over governmental agencies...letting this 'dangerous terrorist' run free in the country...his students that he teaches every day...because they are 'associated' with ayers...does that make them 'terrorists' to? not only should she be investigated in troopergate,,where she abused her power...she and her husband should be investigated in memberships or 'associations' with the alaskan international party...they wanted to secede from the united states...i would consider these goals very dangerous to the country...not only is that unpatriotic but again...it's questionable grounds of treason.

Posted by: nyla | Oct 13, 2008 12:23:03 AM

i wouldn't fret over ohio...they lead the nation in unemployment and are in the top 5 in the nation for foreclosure rates...if they want another 4 years of bush policies...i say let them have it...there is a lot of hatred brewing over color...this isn't surprising to most democrats...ignorance is ignorance..it is what it is...keep in mind a lot of these polls are misleading...check basis from the surverys...i mean if i'm polling a predominately republican neighborhood...then yes...my results would not be scientific...people should just keep in mind...by not voting for obama...YOU ARE NOT HURTING HIM...he can back away from the senate and still have a very lucrative career...and i guarantee...his job wouldn't be outsourced!!!

Posted by: nyla | Oct 13, 2008 12:01:41 AM

Sorry James Danley - I apologize - that comment was for another site. Sorry.
However, I don't believe ACORN or Obama's association with them caused our current situation either. ACORN fought for middle and low income loans for people in the 1990's. This does not mean ALL that benefited from ACORN's efforts defaulted on their loans. We would have seen many foreclosures long before now. ACORN also fought for education reform in inner cities and yes, political reforms. But to blame Obama and them for this mess - no, I don't think so.

Posted by: jamarier | Oct 12, 2008 11:37:12 PM

I am utterly offended that the rich continue to seek tax breaks - and have the gall to keep asking for more. They have been the entitled for quite some time. Of course... they would have you believe that what they save in tax breks will trickle down to us in the middle class. Nothing has trickled down... only OUT of this country. Jobs and investment of goods. Thank you to that top 5%. NOT.

I don't deny he was a soldier in veitnem but a HERO. I don't know if I would go that far. The only way he is a MAVERICK is because he is a self procaimed one. In that case I'm the King of the United States there I said it so it must be true. Now bow to me my loyal subjects. Sen. Obama is up to his eyeballs in this subprime flexible mortgage rate crisis and the devaluation of your 401K.

Since the early 1990s ACORN used intimidation and extortion to force the banks to provide subprime flexible mortgages to individuals who could not afford the loans. Well back in the early 1990s, Sen. Obama conducted leadership-training seminars for ACORN's organizers. Is that just a coincidence, or did Sen. Obama's training include how to intimidate and extort the lending institutions?

ACORN is being investigated in several states for voter registration fraud. And we now learn that Sen. Obama used to be the executive director of the voter registration arm of the Chicago branch of ACORN. Another coincidence?

Barak Hussein Obama is a self-promoting do-nothing. His accomplishments are as follows: graduating from schools; community organizer in that cesspool of corruption, Chicago politics; elected to the Illinois State Senate - same cesspool; elected to the US Senate for one year when he began to run for President of the United States. Never served in the US military. He has not claimed he was disabled. Multi-decade affiliation with domestic terrorists and others who hate the USA. This guy is experienced at two things, hating America and promoting himself. He is a lefty, even for left wingers.

I hope the Ohio residents look at their bank accounts and remember the struggles of the last 8 years. McCain has 7 or 8 homes and 13 cars. Do you really think that he is looking out for your interests? Ohio, this entire election can lie on your votes! Please for future of our country, make the right decision and come out in groves to elect Barack Obama. He is the only presidential candidate that will bring change. McCain voted 95% of the time with Bush. Do you really think he's going to change? Some Maverick!

Obama's grandmother is elderly and is no longer capable of travel! Seriously that was a desperate comment!

Palin did abuse her power! We all know that the trooper was a jerk but she had no business bringing in a family freud into Alaskan government business! I read the report! We should be concerned that because Todd Palin is not an elected official he had so much access to the state of Alaska business!

I am sick of Palin getting a free ride! Seriously! She went to 5 colleges in 6 years, she boarded a plane with her water broken at 36 weeks with a child with down syndrome risking delivery on the plane and no infant emergency equipment! Down syndrome babies often have severe cardiac anomalies, her teen daughter is pregnant and she wants her to get married and the girl hasn't even graduated from highschool! She has no clue about foreign policy and thinks because she can see Russia from Alaska that counts as experience! She left the town of Wisilla in debt, she owes back taxes, she is the queen of earmarks, dosn't think that a woman should have a abortion even in the case of rape and incest! I question McCain judgement that he would pick her! I respected McCain before this and if he would have picked a strong VP I might have considered voting for him! He has NO clue what to do about the economy and just spoats off ideas without thinking about them! McCain has voted against veterans 28 times and his wife Cindy McCain has the audicity to critizice Obama for no voting 1 time not to fund the troops because Obama wanted a time frame for withdrawal! I could care less that Obama sat on a board with Ayers! Obama was 7 years old when Ayers did what he did! Who cares!

i only have one comment for the guy who has an october surprise about OBAMA not being a citizen because he was born WHERE? it doesnt matter,FYI, it could be anywher in the world he is still U.S.citizen just because his Mother is. unless you have proof that his mom wasnt born to American parents, research on that!!or get an education it might help you. no wonder you sympathize w/ Palin, she didnt read either.

Professorj said: He also says he will give a tax cut to 95% of Americans. How can he do that when 40% of Americans pay no taxes in the first place? Taxing upper income people and then sending money to people who didn’t pay anything to begin with is not a tax cut, it is the socialist policy of income redistribution.

Agreed! It will come right back to the middle class. Pluck the money from the rich, give it to the middle class, then take it from the middle class and on down it goes. Same ole same ole. I have no problem with my taxes being used to help those less fortunate. I really don't...but only if it helps them up. So far, all we see is the same thing. It enables...and government is an enabler. I want these programs used in a more productive way. More enforcement on how this money is given, and more checks, and balances on those recieving it, as it should only go to those who are most in need, and want that help up...not the hand out.

Taxes will come in the form of capital gains, death taxes raised, gas taxes raised. When gas was nearing almost $200 a barrel, Obama wanted to put another 28 cents on the federal gas tax. The drilling ban is gone, but I would bet dollars to donuts, if Obama is elected, and there's a majority of Dems in Congress....we will see the ban re-inserted, and the price of gas will soar beyond what we've ever seen before.

If you think the economy is bad now...just wait.

Notice how the stock market is bad? People are pulling their money now....so they won't have to pay that 28% capital gains tax. Even Democrats are pulling out.

Josh said: as for tasing his step-son it was the step-son who asked him to do it so that he could show his cousin how tough he was.

By that logic, if a child asks an adult, especially a parent, or step parent to shoot them....you shoot them? When do we accept adult responsibility for our actions?

I do not agree with what Todd Palin did, but from reading several stories, this was a problem the Palins, and other family members brought forth, a few years before she became Governor.

As for the drinking. He apparently did.

This is from a CNN news story.

Troopers eventually investigated 13 issues and found four in which Wooten violated policy or broke the law or both:

• Wooten used a Taser on his stepson.

• He illegally shot a moose.

• He drank beer in his patrol car on one occasion.

• He told others his father-in-law would "eat a f'ing lead bullet" if he helped his daughter get an attorney for the divorce.

Beyond the investigation sparked by the family, trooper commanders saw cause to discipline or give written instructions to correct Wooten seven times since he joined the force, according to Grimes' letter to Wooten.

I don't know about anyone else, but I wouldnt' want anyone on our police force here, that was behaving this way.

Again...I don't agree with what Todd Palin did, but there really is no excuse for Mr. Wootens behavior either, considering the authority position he's in. He needs to set the example.

Those of you that believe the untrue myth Obama wasn't actually born in America had better hope that a similar rumor about McCain isn't true. He was born in Panama, ya know, and there are questions about it.

Get real. His grandmother is very old and I'm sure the last thing she wants in television cameras in her face. We don't see much of McCain's mother, do we?

Posted by: Caroline | Oct 12, 2008 5:03:18 PM

Sen. Obama SAYS that the top 2% of the nation's wage earners would see their federal income tax rates increased back to where they were during the Clinton Administration; and the bottom 95% would see either a tax cut or a tax credit.

According to the latest IRS statistics (updated July 2008), in 2006 the total number of federal tax returns reporting a positive Adjusted Gross Income were 135.7 million. 95% of that figure equals 128.9 million returns reporting a positive AGI. And approximately 2.8 million of the returns reported an AGI of at least $250,000.

That tax increase for the top 2% in 2006 would have amounted to only about $65 billion in additional revenue.

If Sen. Obama's tax plan gives the bottom 95% of workers a $500 tax cut or tax credit that would have amounted to $64.5 billion in 2006. So raising the federal income tax rates on the top 2% would only pay for the tax cuts or tax credits that Sen. Obama would give to the bottom 95%. So where does Sen. Obama come up with the revenue to pay for the $4,000 tax credit that he plans to give for each child in college? Where does he come up with the revenue to pay for preschool for every preschool-aged child? Where does he come up with the revenue to pay for nationalizing our health care system?

The numbers just do not add up. So Sen. Obama will have to raise the federal income tax substantially more for the top 2%, and he may have competely forego the middle class tax cuts or possibly implement tax increases in order to pay for the estimated $500 billion to $1 trillion in new entitlements.

You know that a campaign is in serious trouble when it has nothing to say on the issues, has spend time distancing itself from every remark at every event, when there is no coherent message, when the two candidates start to contradict each other, and the campaign begins to attract some unsavoury elements. Sadly, Senator McCain is no longer in charge of his campaign, and his running mate is putting down a marker for 2012..in the last debate Sen. McCain talked about a spending freeze, now he wants the spend a billions on buying back mortgages!!, as for the Alaska probe, 10 Republican and 4 Democrats found that Gov.Palin abused her power, 10 GOP/4 Dems!!..spin that one.

Do any of you realize that there is no law that says that any individual has to pay federal income taxes. which means the only way anyone will have there taxes raised is if they choose to pay a federal income tax.

And by the Palin did Abuse her Pwoer and let her husband abuse her power. and as for tasing his step-son it was the step-son who asked him to do it so that he could show his cousin how tough he was. I went to my doctor Friday. I was picking on him that his taxes would go up if Obama was elected. He didn’t crack a smile and just said I guess I’ll have to raise my rates. The people Obama plans to raise taxes on are our doctors, dentists, lawyers, pharmacists, and other professionals and successful small business owners who will simply raise their rates to cover their increased taxes. Think about it everyone. Who really pays for those tax increases?

He also says he will give a tax cut to 95% of Americans. How can he do that when 40% of Americans pay no taxes in the first place? Taxing upper income people and then sending money to people who didn’t pay anything to begin with is not a tax cut, it is the socialist policy of income redistribution.

"In addition to these non-paying filers, roughly 15 million individuals and families earned some income in 2004 but not enough to be required to file a tax return. When these non-filers are added to the non-payers, they add up to 57.5 million income-earning households (sometimes referred to as tax units) who paid no income taxes last year. Even 57.5 million is not the actual number of people because one tax return often represents several people. When all of the dependents of these income-producing households are counted, roughly 120 million Americans—40 percent of the U.S. population—are outside of the federal income tax system."

OBAMA'S NAME WILL BE TAKEN OFF THE PRESIDENTIAL BALLOT, AFTER THE WORLD FINDS OUT THE TRUTH ABOUT HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE. IF THERE TRULY IS PROOF THAT OBAMA PUT A FAKE BIRTH CETIFICATE UP ON HIS SITE TO EASE THE QUESTIONS OF PEOPLE ABOUT HIS REAL BIRTH PLACE; AND IT TRULY WAS A FAKE, HE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT. IF HE IS NOT A U.S. CITIZEN, WELL THEN, "GOODBYE, OBAMA!!!!"

" ... undermines the integrity of the election system."

Maybe Venezuela or Russia can send in election observers...in order to learn more tricks on how to run fraudulent elections.

USA, the newest Banana Republic.

Jay I have to agree with tom because of his clearly sexist position on Palin he is definately a republican. But I also agree that the health of a candidate is an issue I take seriously. I would like to see all 4 candidates have a physical and release the results to the voters. McCain does not look to be in good health but neither does Biden. Palin looks to be in good physical health although I question her mental health (because it took her three days to answer what newspapers she reads) and Obama is a smoker so I have to question his health even though he appears to be physically healthy.

Tom, I doubt that you are a real republican in the first place. The fear mongering about McCain's age, health and trying to make people afraid of Palin is an old left wing tactic at best.
I am far more afraid of Obama and his socialist world view, massive spending and tax increases and who he has associated with all of his adult life.

Yes, Jay I am a proud republican. I am not the only republican who is scared about a maybe Sarah Palin president. Look at the polls Jay. Sarah Palin is sinking in the polls, faster than a fast speed rail. Thats a fact. If you feel comfortable voting for Sarah Palin, go ahead you are in the minority. I have spooken to many moderate republicans who will cast votes for Obama, simply becouse of this issue. I know Jay that this is hard for you to swallow but the truth is the truth and you and I cant change that. AGAIN people are not comfortable with Sarah palin nor John McCains health. I am not the only one sayong this my friend. In regards to association lets not go there, I am sure McCain has had his share and Sarah Palin we just dont know because she was not vetted properly.Dear Palin has become the laugh stock of the McCain campaing, she is not a smart cookie. We republicans need to go back to the drawing board, first lest start with a better candidate, a true conservative. Second lets give the VP choice importance again, is Sarah Palin the best we can do??? Third lets come up with a better agenda and new fresh Ideas. We need real reformers, not Sarah Palin who has abused her powers..Is that a true repfrmer, NOT. I will put my country first and glady vote for THE BEST TEAM

OBAMA/BIDEN 2008

As a republican I must say, who in their right mind will vote for McCain/Palin. First of all this man looks and acts like hes ill. Second, McCain dies the women Palin will become our next president. Palin has proven to be very controversial. Sarah Palin over exptended her power, this fact was discovered by a panel of 10 republicans and 4 democrats. She does not have the foreign policy experience...She has become a joke and I really belive that she is the worst choice for this VP position. I am sorry but I am scared to death of this women becomes the next president. I will put country first and vote for the better team. This republican will vote for Obama/Biden. I urge republicans to look at the issues and ask themesleves, is Sarah Palin the best we can do???? I am sorry why we Americans have to set our standards so low to acammodate this women. A VP position is very important position last time I heard. Sarah is not qualify in no form to be a commander in chief, if McCain is to die. Look folks McCain is looking very Ill...This is a real issue....

States actions to block voting appear illegal.

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, a radical leftist group based in Chicago with very close ties to U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, scripted much of the subprime mortgage scandal.

ACORN has been misusing socialism to correct the perceived problems of capitalism. As with all socialist schemes, it failed miserably. It also has cost the innocent bystanders, the U.S. taxpayers, untold billions.

ACORN "community activists" in the 1980s used very in-your-face intimidation tactics -- and loopholes in the 1977 Community Reinvestment Act -- to pressure local lenders to make very risky home loans to otherwise unqualified borrowers.

Then in the 1990s, ACORN used lobbyists to pressure Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to take those nearly worthless loans off the hands of the put-upon lenders, reports Stanley Kurtz, senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center.

Amazingly, ACORN eventually was permitted to redraft many of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's loan guidelines.

Through funding and personal-leadership training, Mr. Obama, as a director at Chicago's Woods Fund, and as board chair of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, shamelessly supported ACORN.

But it's paying one's bills promptly and saving for a down payment that leads to homeownership. Following ACORN has led to ruin.

Self-discipline is the sure cure for socialism.

George Obama says he is doing fine, and doesn't want anyone's help. And he is proud of Barack's accomplishments, even though they don't know each other.

The welfare reform bill under Clinton drastically reduce the number of non-working welfare recipients. Obama has said that while he was hesitant at first, he now agrees with it because he realizes that the earlier system probably did encourage dependency. He has always been emphatic that people need to take responsibility for themselves.

The 40% of Americans that don't pay taxes already have their hands out waiting for that welfare check from Obama.

Sit back and take Gov't handouts while hating the Gov't.

Rev Wright taught Obama so well.

Just Wondering

The 40% number was one of last week's right-wing talking points. God only knows where it came from. It is obvious that people like Polly have no idea.

Redstate founder Josh Trevino said this morning that when he got his absentee ballot...he could not bring himself to vote for John McCain..wrote in Bobby Jindal's name....shame he couldn't up and vote for Obama... but still :)

I'm not interested in a Soviet-style redistribution of wealth. I'm just tired of the Russian-style redistribution of wealth we've had going on for the last few years, where the greatest rewards are funneled to a corrupt few who control the government and dole out their largesse to the cronies that keep them in power but under the radar. Cheney would be doing as well in Moscow as he has in Washington, using the same tactics as mafia kingpins always have, loyalty through fear.

No all democrats are not "freeloaders" and most poor people do not deserve their fate. For 40 years since FDR we have supporting people that do not WORK and don't want to work. Do selfishness and aristocracy apply to OBAMA when it comes to his half brother in Kenya living on $12.00 a year? Being a democrat, I bet you would be helping your brother. Why is he not helping him and why has he not mentioned him...hum. Kenya will be the 51st state.

Jeanie

It bothers you because you do not understand the the nature of a Constitution republic, and Obama does.
Constitutional rights are not a matter for "majority rule." 90% of the people can vote to discriminate against a minority, but it is not going to happen because the Constitution remains the law of the land.

LOL. Don't let the facts get in the way of your partisanship.

Do a search on Phil Gramm and foreclosures. Another search on Gramm and "credit default swaps" (CDS) a major cause of the current economic crisis.

The media rarely covers the CDS because it is complicated and difficult to understand.

Instead the media often blame it on loans to Credit Reinvestment Act, which has existed since the 70s to help minorities and lower income people. NOT True 20 percent of loans

Interesting even the newspapers there are insisting that the registration forms be looked over carefully so that votes aren't thrown away unnecessarily.Voter suppression is not going to work this time.

Posted by: karen | Oct 12, 2008 1:31:26 PM

Well that is odd Polly. I listen to the news daily plus read the Washington Post daily and I have yet to hear those statistics.

Posted by: Just Wondering | Oct 12, 2008 1:31:17 PM

In a carefully hedged statement, Obama said he “respects the decision of the California Supreme Court.” He respects a decision that disregarded the will of the people in California, as expressed by a 2000 referendum that defined marriage as between a man and a woman; he respects a decision that excoriated his own position of support for civil unions and (theoretical) opposition to same-sex marriage; he respects a decision that rejects the sort of political compromise he extols.

FYI...I do NOT oppose gays marriage.

I do however find this portion interesting.

He respects a decision that disregarded the will of the people in California, as expressed by a 2000 referendum

If that kind of thinking, from a potential president doesn't bother anyone....then it should. The will of the people is in dangerous territory, when a sitting President would oppose it, for the decision of a higher court.

I'm not speaking on the gay marriage issue, I'm speaking any issue. That bothers me, a lot.

At least the 40% of the 95% to get a tax cut by Obama.

Polly where did you get this info from. Or are you just making it up.

Jennifer Brunner holds the people of her own state in contempt. It's one of those jaw-dropping moments. How could this happen in the United States of America?! Her complete disdain for voters, in delaying this until it's too late to do anything about it, is palpable. From what I've seen the entire Republican Party has been hijacked by people who actually hate voters. Whick, if you connect the dots, means they hate democracy. Scary times.
