Joe the Plumber Says He Was 'Scared for America' When He Met Obama
October 24, 2008 9:14 PM
In an online chat at the Washington Times today the most famous plumber since Art Carney, Toledo's own Samuel Joseph "Joe the Plumber" Wurzelbacher, expressed some mighty skepticism about Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
“When I was face to face with him, my honest first impression was that I expected something more,” wrote Wurzelbacher, in response to a question from “Thomasville, AL.” “I had heard so much about ‘his presence’ in the media that I was surprised to find that he seemed very average. My gut feeling as he answered my questions? I was scared for America.”
“Do you believe Obama will actually stick to his current promise of only raising taxes on incomes above $250k, or will it go lower?” asked “La Jolla, CA.”
“That's the big question isn't it,” replied Joe. “What worries me is that he is deciding that $250k is rich right now, but what's to stop him from changing his mind? As we all know, politicians change their minds at the drop of a poll. Personally, I think it will have to go lower. How else will he pay for all he wants big government to do?”
Oddly, Wurzelbacher says of Sen. John McCain’s "Joe The Plumber" tour, “I did not receive an invitation and learned about it on the news only this morning. No one from either campaign has asked me to join them. I'm out to stick up for the regular folks.”
When one correspondent suggested that Wurzelbacher would fare better under Obama’s tax plan than under McCain’s, Wurzelbacher responded, “Whether or not his tax plan, as he states it today, would help me, it still comes down to principles. I don't want someone else's hard earned money. How can you be sure they're not going to change their minds and decide you make too much money and want to take more of it to "spread" to someone else. Unfortunately, as much as Obama says he wants to help out small businesses, this small business opportunity is now dead.”

The comments made herein make me sad .. not because I agree with them, and certainly not because I disagree with them. The reason for my sadness is that 95% of Americans know nothing about the American political machine and who actually makes the laws in America. I guess you were all asleep in class that day! Sad, very sad.
Allow me to educate you .. this is what you missed that day and/or week.
CONGRESS MAKES THE LAWS IN THE UNITED STATES, NOT THE PRESIDENT! In a nutshell, Congress is responsible for the laws that you and I live under in the United States! That right there is who you should be blaming for the current state of the United States. Congress is primarily Democrat-controlled. Think about this and read it several times if you have to to understand it.
To make matters worse, you people claim to want change?!? Are you serious? Do you really want the kind of change that Barrack "Hussein" Obama is going to bring? Do you really want a complete Democrat-controlled Congress? Think hard about this, and allow me to tell you why this is NOT a good idea .. OBAMA, PELOSI, AND REID!
Read everything you can get your hands on about this trio in the next few days and understand what will happen. As a fellow American who loves and is quite proud of the United States, I am begging you to do your homework before you go into that voting booth and cast your vote. Please, for yourself and America .. do this!
In closing, I would like to cite the three (3) biggest lies (and there are hundreds of them about Barrack "Hussein" Obama ...
Obama Lie No. 1 - I will tax just the rich.
There is no such thing as a tax on just the rich. Taxes on wealthy people affect everyone.
Remember, Obama defines anyone making over $90,000 a year as "rich."
Joe the plumber discovered that Obama thinks Joe's rich too. Under Obama, he won't be able to hire new employees and grow his business.
Joe's not alone. Obama says he'll strip away the FICA cap at $90,000 for every worker. That means every dollar you earn over that amount, you'll pay 7 percent!
Obama Lie No. 2 - I want to give a tax cut to the middle class.
Baloney!
Obama says he will let the Bush tax cuts expire. That's an automatic 5 percent (maximum) tax increase on almost all taxpayers.
Plus middle class folks pay capital gains taxes. Obama has said he wants to almost double them from a low of 15 percent to almost 30 percent.
He wants to hike the dividend tax, and he also has promised taxes on gas and energy.
Obama also wants to dramatically increase the estate tax, which had almost disappeared. There goes your idea of sharing your wealth with your kids in the future.
Obama Lie No. 3 - I want to make America more secure.
Another outright lie.
In an age when crazies like Iran's Ahmadinejad are building ballistic missiles and promise to "destroy" the United States and Israel, Obama has promised to gut the missile defense program created by President Reagan.
"I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems," Obama said.
He has promised to cut "tens of billions" of dollars from the Defense Department. In an effort to make us more "secure," Obama plans to disarm us.
In the age of 9/11, can we afford such a radical Leftist in the White House?
No, we can't.
The saddest information I ever received in an email was from a reporter in London .. London! .. giving accolades to President George Bush for his fight on terror .. a job he is winning! Why did we not see this in a single American newspaper? I find this quite interesting. You should too!
STOP BLAMING BUSH FOR THE STATE OF THE ECONOMY AND PUT THE BLAME WHERE IT BELONGS .. THE U.S. CONGRESS!!!
A Seriously Worried and Concerned American

Quote: " I hate to tell you, but if you believe in "spread the wealth", then you ARE a socialist."
People who call Obama's policies "socialism" and "class warfare" make me laugh.
In the Cuban revolution, they lined up many of the rich against the wall and shot them. The rest were exiled to Florida. Then the government took over all of their land and property. That's socialism. (Well, technically it's Communism, but most people using this argument don't know the difference anyway and are conflating the two.)
In the French revolution, they gullotined the nobility. That's class warfare.
Raising the marginal rate on the top brackets by 3% to pay for sensible energy, health care, and economic stimulus policies is neither socialism nor class warfare.
Indeed, the only class warfare going on is the war the rich have been waging on everyone else for the last eight years (and much longer, of course). The Bush administration gave them huge handouts and now we're bailing them out again. The real redistribution of wealth that's been going on is all upwards -- tax breaks, loopholes, subsidies, no-bid contracts, bailouts, all welfare for the rich on a scale most of us can't even imagine.
These greed-heads have wrecked our economy, destroyed our standing in the world, and done possibly irreparable damage to our planet. They should feel quite fortunate if all they get is a 3% tax hike.

I think it is interesting that the republicans are calling barack a socialist...I am a true independent and I see the current administration buying all the banks...that seems like communism...the GOP always has a buzz word...This will be my first time to vote democrat for president...I voted early...and I am pretty excited with the projected out come...

fraggenboots - I think you need to adjust your analogy a little... under Obama's plan, those who make very little will be PAID $50 to cross the bridge.

Me- WHY should people who make over $250,000 be taxed more than they already are? Why should we bring our standard of living down to the rest of the world? They should be striving to reach ours. But, hey, that's right.. they live in societies where everything is taken care of for them & they don't have to take any responsibility for themselves -but we're supposed to give up our work ethic to make them happy. And Americans are NOT greedy. How many millions of dollars do we give other countries EVERY year & not expect one dime of it to be paid back? Maybe we should be greedy & stop supporting the rest of the world - but then we'd be the "bad" guys yet again. If we help, we're the "bad" guys... if we don't help, we're the "bad" guys. All because of jealousy.

Joe is a classical unintelligent American. If your income is over 250K you should be taxed more. Seriously, is that going to hurt you at all? You have more money than most.
Americans are greedy self centered people. I understand why most people hate us and I don't blame them. No other country has the standard of living that America has. It is ridiculous.
P.S. I hate to be the one to break it to you but America is already a semi-socialist society.

"Joe the plummer" represents a situation that most working class American could face.
As usual, the libs misses the point and attacking the man.

I trust obama will be the "one" to put our country in jeopardy.
Try to looked past all of his rhetorics and innuendos, think how barrack can delivered what he promised. The math doesn't add up!
The joke will be on you and his supporters when he breaking his promises.

The play on words is amazing. This guy gets on TV and McCain expliots him and makes him apart of his campaign. He cont. to blame Obama for everything from the housing crisis to Joe the Plumber being famous. McCain loses because he ran a horrible campaign. The total focus of his campaign has been trying to speak on Obama and no issues. He tried to cont. the repubs main theme, Dems will tax you. Therefore he loses because he has no new ideas.
We all pay a more dispaportionate amount of taxes compared to the rich. This country takes more of middle income americans than the rich by percentage. Ask Warren Buffet, he admitted so. How average americans can sit back and take up for the rich is amazing. Raising their taxes won't break them and those who're defending them will never reach their status. They love you because you love your position.

PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG:
The other day on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money." I laughed.
Once in the restaurant my server had on an "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence.
When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.
I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I 've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.
At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient needed money more.
I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.
THANKS!!

BO's tax policy would be akin to a toll on a bridge charging rich people $1000 to cross, the middle class $5 and those with very little nothing. They're all using the same bridge. Quite fair, eh libs?

==Obama has affectively bribed people earning less than 250K into voting for him.
That's exactly right. And since this number represents 95% of the population it's no wonder his standing in the polls. The problem is that this 250K thing is nothing more than an empty talking point. This man has never voted to lower taxes for anyone, ever, and likely never will.
If he gets elected this will be the first promise to go. He's proposed over a trillion in new spending. He's proposed universal healthcare. He's proposed a massive redistribution of wealth. The people who make more than 250K would not be able to fund this nonsense if they were taxed at 100%.

No More Fear - Boo Hoo! You're tired of people saying they are scared. So, you want them to lie & say it's okay for Obama to force socialism on us? Everyone here has the right to free speech - at least for the time being. We've already seen what happens when you dare question Obama/Biden.

Obama has affectively bribed people earning less than 250K into voting for him. According to the Obama camp Americans should not earn more than 250K or risk being punished with higher taxes. What happens when those that have earned more than 250K have been leached below 250K? Then will it be Americans earning more than 150K? Workers that earn less than 250k or are already wards of the nation are being promised something that the government cannot sustain. Crippling industry by doing this means fewer jobs and the extinction of mid-sized business. We will be left with small corner shops that have to rely upon government sponsored healthcare and corporations that are propped up by the government because they are too big to fail. Government ownership is already under way in the form of having controlling investment (Communism). Never before has there been such a willing loss of freedom due to the expectation that the government should manage our lives. Too many people have bought into the fairytale economics he is spinning.

I'm so tired of hearing grown people say they're "scared". It's embarrassing. People need to get their priorities straight. Americans have reduced their entire reason for living to nothing more than money, house, and cars. If their money, house, or car is lost, then they want to commit suicide. This is pathetic! This must look ridiculous to the rest of the world. Stop trusting in "things" America, and start trusting in the One who made all things.

richard - The Christian idea is to do it VOLUNTARILY (i.e. through your church or other charitable organizations), not be FORCED to do it, possibly to people who do NOT deserve it.

It is absolutely ridiculous the amount of press this guy is getting and that the media values his opinion so much. You need to go out and interview every person in the country and treat them with as much interest, seriously.
'I' don't agree with this guy and my opinion is at least as valuable as his. There is nothing special about this guy and I wish the media would get over him and move on.

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. I am astounded anyone listens to him.
