Joe the Plumber Campaigns for McCain, Investigation Continues into Who Searched His Records

October 28, 2008 6:09 PM

As Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, aka "Joe the Plumber," campaigned for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in his home state of Ohio today.

At one stop, a voter from Florida asked him if "a vote for Obama is a vote for the death of Israel."

Wurzelbacher replied, "I'll go ahead and agree with you on that."

(Obama has repeatedly affirmed his support for Israel as "non-negotiable.")

Wurzelbacher also said, "I love America. I hope it remains a democracy, not a Socialist society. ... If you look at spreading the wealth, that's honestly right out of Karl Marx's mouth."

Meanwhile authorities revealed some answers as to who had improperly searched Wurzelbacher's personal records, the Columbus Dispatch reports.

* "The Toledo Police Department announced today that a civilian employee improperly pulled Wurzelbacher's information on behalf of a reporter for a Toledo television station shortly after the Oct. 15 presidential debate. The employee has been charged with gross misconduct and faces a disciplinary hearing, said Chief Michael Navarre. He declined to identify the TV station, but said the reporter confirmed asking for a check on Wurzelbacher's address.

* "The Cuyahoga County Child Support Enforcement Agency also said an employee's computer was used to improperly access Bureau of Motor Vehicles records on 'Joe the Plumber.' The employee denies involvement.

* "Another access of Wurzelbacher's information, by an outside contractor who had access to an attorney general's office test account, is being investigated by the State Highway Patrol.

* "Inspector General Thomas P. Charles is investigating why the director of Ohio Department of Job and Family Services approved a check on Wurzelbacher through the state's child-support computer system. Director Helen Jones-Kelley said that after a 'team meeting,' she OK'd the check because the department often runs inquiries to check for unpaid child support when people are thrust into 'the public spotlight.'"

Jones-Kelly, a Democratic appointee who has given the Obama campaign $2,500, claimed to have had no political motivations when she allowed the check.

Yeah, and Obama says a lot of things that clearly are not reflective of what he truly believes. With the full support of the mainstream media he has thus far successfully disguised who he really is, just to get elected. It took Joe the Plumber to ask one simple question that the media, in 19 months of an Obama campaign, wouldn't dare to ask.

We've finally learned more about who Barack Obama really is in the past two weeks, since Joe the Plumber's question, than we had in the entire campaign prior! And, even so, Joe the Plumber has gotten more scrutiny from the mainstream media, in those same two weeks, than Barack Obama has gotten in the entire time he's been campaigning!

To Joe the plumber and the rest of the Republicans in here,

Socialism is where the government owns business. In our country big business has taken over our government. It’s still called Socialism. Supply-Side Economics (Trickle down theory of economics or Reagonomics) is the Economics of Socialism and Bush-McCain-Palin. What we now call Supply-Side Economics is Socialist Economics and has been throughout history. Every time in history when Supply-Side Economics has been adopted by a government, the government has fallen into ruin. Socialism is Big Business, wealth, assets, and power over the masses and government are in the hands of a few. We live in a socialist country. Thanks to the Patriot Acts 1 and 2. The Constitution is basically null and void.

History is repeating what the Republican’s did in the 1920's and it lead to the depression of the 1930's. The same Socialist Economics, the same types of investments now called derivatives and hedge funds (leveraged gambling). Commercial Banks and Investment Banks are again intermingling their financial activities, monopolistic big business and now monopolistic big media all these things lead to the great depression and our current financial crisis.

We fought the American Revolution with England to get away from Socialist Imperialism and taxation with out representation.

The Democrat’s lead us out of the great depression. It’s time for The Democrat’s to lead us out of this financial crisis. God and the rest of us know the Republican’s won’t restore our Democratic Republic.

Today McCain-Palin both said they embrace the great economic strategies of President Ronald Reagan. This is same old Socialist Supply-Side Economics of Reagan-Bush Sr. and Jr.-McCain-Palin. This is not real change people for the middle class and working poor. It is more of the same. McCain-Palin will destroy our country. We will become slaves of the very rich if McCain becomes our next resident. Vote Obama-Biden 08.

Grey Matter ,

Joe's records were illegally accessed in Ohio and his privacy violated.

Jones-Kelly, a Democratic appointee and Obama supporter allowed Joe's records to be accessed.

Obama supporters do not like Joe but it does not mean that his privacy can be violated.

Just when I think the McCain campaign can't get any worse, it does.
The late night comedians will have a field day with this one.

What's spreading the wealth, Joe?

Spreading the wealth's the big, bad government coming up and seizing your plumbing business, seizing your profits and nationalising your company under them. THAT'S SOCIALISM. The government coming up and seizing your wealth to distribute to everyone, THAT'S SOCIALISM.

NOT tax cuts and tax credits. You don't even know what Marxism is. It means the state controls EVERYTHING too, and seizes all the upper-class's property, estate and land and divides it up for everyone or takes state ownership of it. It means NO PRIVATIZATION.

Not just tax credits. Do you still have your house? The government hasn't tried to annex your business? Congratulations, you're not living in a socialist country.

I think, however, we will be on track to becoming a third world country if we let McCain anywhere near D.C to continue his cowboy foreign policy, messing up the already broken health care system, ridiculous tax cuts for everyone (with NO way to fund the federal govt.), and still wanting to spend 10 billion per month in Iraq.

Who violated Joe's privacy in the first place? It was McCain in front of 60 million viewers! Then Palin and he have talked incessantly about Joe at all their rallies. So if anyone has used Joe for their own agenda, it has been McCain and Palin. So all this outrage about his privacy from their supporters is a sham.

Greg h,

Please be clear that it was not the Obama camapign who went and looked through his records. If it's anyone's fault, it's McCain's for bringing it up this guy so many times in the debate, thus shining the media spotlight on him.

This Joe doesn't even know what socialism and Marxism is but likes to throw around words like this for fear-mongering. Say Socialism and they think of the Soviet Union and Communist China and the Cold War.

Sheesh.

Posted by: Grey Matter | Oct 29, 2008 12:55:25 AM

Can any Obama supporter explain why they think it is Ok for Joe's privacy to be violated.

If Obama supporters think Joe should be punished for simply asking Obama a question.

Why is Joe privacy is violated for simply asking Obama a question when Obama came to his neighbourhood.

It is not that Joe set Obama up? Obama came to his neighbourhood for a photo opportunity.

You bots are just scared to death of Joe the Plumber, aren't you? A full court press smear campaign, complete with illegal invasions of his privacy and banks of seminar posters working 24/7 to discredit and marginalize him for the glory of your Dear Leader.

Joe Is Right!

Gird your loins! By the Beard of Jupiter, gird your loins!

Y..a..w..n! I am sick and tired of hearing about Joe.

Posted by: Susan | Oct 28, 2008 11:45:43 PM

Would you say it's timing that KARL ROVE came on the scene about the same time Joe The Plumber started asking questions out of the blue. This race the GOP is running is full of trickery. The way I look at this race is that should I "Get use to the last eight years or change" I look at what big business have done: Saving and Loans, the big house bubble, more ENRONS,THE CHANGES IN MEDICAL PLANS AT WORK,GAS COMPANIES MAKING TRILLIONS,ALMOST NO ONE GOING TO JAIL FOR THEIR INVOLVEMENT IN CRIMES,COMPANIES GETTING TAX BREAKS TO SHIP JOBS OVER SEAS, A NEW TERM "OUTSOURCING",....I THINK BIG BUSINESS HAVE HAD RECORD YEARS..., BUT! WHY ARE SO MANY PEOPLE LOSING THEIR HOME? WHY ARE RETIRED PEOPLE HAVING TO GO BACK TO WORK ? JOE THE PLUMBER "PLEASE SPEAK FOR YOURSELF" IT DOESN'T PERTAIN TO ME,MY FAMILY MEMBERS, MY FRIENDS,OR MY STATE!

Funny Obama supporters are violating privacy rights for a ordinary American Joe because he asked Obama a question.

It seems that Jones-Kelly, a Democratic appointee and a Obama supporter and who is head of Ohio job and family services is responsible for violating the privacy information of Joe.

Another blunder by the Obama campaign.

Charles: Credit default swaps became legal through the legislative work of Phil Gramm, former co-chair of McCain's campaign and his former chief economic advisor. You're right - that's how we got into this mess - but the legislation was passed long before Obama even gave his first national speech. The Gramm measure (2000) was called Commodity Futures Modernization Act. Gramm's measure allowed $62 trillion to be traded through the market with absolutely no regulation or oversight. Warren Buffett called them "weapons of financial mass destruction." So would you rather have a President who gets advice from Warren Buffett or would you rather have a President who got his advice from Phil Gramm, who called the economic mess a "mental problem?"

"Joe the plumber" campaigning for McCain is really funny. Anderson and Gergen on CNN were laughing about it.

>I love America. I hope it remains a democracy, not a Socialist society.
>If you look at spreading the wealth, that's honestly right out of Karl Marx's mouth.

I will give a journalist $100 straight outta my pocket if they ask Joe to define socialism.

Please make this poor guy go home and get back to work. Has Sam spent a lot of time reading Karl Marx? Because I don't know a soul who has. So how does he even know what he said or thought? Could some reporter with a brain please ask him this question?

As for Obama and all this nonsense about socialism, I think I'll take the word of Warren Buffett over Sam the Plumber. And hope that Sam soon goes home to take care of his kid. He is the Kato Katelin of this election. Apparently, John McCain had never spoken directly with a middle class person before he met Sam.

So, if it is not unusual for non-licensed plumbers to work under their boss's license, what happens when Joe buys his boss's business? Would he need a plumbing license to operate a plumbing company? I really don't care who looked into his background. He is so obviously a plant he should be growing leaves.

Posted by: shockolit | Oct 28, 2008 11:05:46 PM

I'd actually feel sorry for this man if he weren't about to get rich off of this media frenzy (all the while complaining about it).

McCain's campaign is on to something though: Joe does sure represents something that's Only in America.

From the very beginning, I thought this buttplug was a plant. He pushed his way through the crowd to get to Obama. He voiced his 'concern' loud enough it clearly got the attention of everyone around them. His speech was far too rehearshed and preplanned. Now he is acting like a stupis, money loving, un-cultured, greedy,...well, a Republican. Just a plant. Means nothing. If he writes a book, with the help of someone who finished enough school to actually write, I sure wouldn't buy the darn thing. Well, on second thought, I do use a lot of good fire starter here in the winter...Okay, I'd maybe buy a couple books...get those fireplace warmers going real good. Besides, after Nov 4th the clown is gonna need a new profession. McCain plants won't be in high demand. :)
