Kissimmee, Kate! -- Bill Clinton Heralds Obama's 'Do' List; How Obama Called the Clintons to 'Understand' the Financial Crisis
October 30, 2008 7:28 AM
KISSIMMEE, FLORIDA -- “Look at this crowd -– it’s not only big, it is highly diverse," former President Bill Clinton told a crowd of 35,000 outside Orlando last night. "You even have a few white haired guys like me -– you haven't cut my demographic out!"
It was the first joint campaign appearance between Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and the former president ever since the former felled the latter's wife in the primaries. It was just August when the 42nd president hemmed and hawed when ABC News' Kate Snow asked him if Obama is qualified to be president.
That is no longer operative, apparently.
Clinton took on the GOP's economic arguments -- "They talk about redistributing the wealth? They just presided over the biggest redistribution of wealth upward since the 1920s and we all know how that ended!" -- and he heralded what Obama stands for.
"Let me tell you, folks, and this is again something I can say because I’m not running for anything -- the historical record shows that virtually every person ever elected president does his best to actually do what they say they’re gonna do in the campaign, and Barack Obama’s 'Do' list is the better 'Do' list."
Clinton's explanations of why Obama is qualified were interesting, to say the least.
"You know what he did?" Clinton said, heralding Obama's reaction to the financial crisis. "First, he took a little heat for not saying much. I knew what he was doing. He talked to his advisers -– he talked to my economic advisers, he called Hillary. He called me. He called Warren Buffet. He called all those people -- you know why? Because he knew it was complicated and before he said anything, he wanted to understand."
Got that?
"If we have not learned anything, we have learned that we need a president that wants to understand and who can understand," Clinton said.
Thank heaven the Clintons were there to help Obama understand!
"The second thing -- and this meant more to me than anything else, and I haven't cleared this with him and he may even be mad at me for saying this, so close to the election -- but I know what else he said to his economic advisers -- he said, 'Tell me what the right thing to do is. What's the right thing for America? Don't tell me what's popular, you tell me what's right, I'll figure it out and sell it.'
"That's what a president does in a crisis," Clinton said, "what is right for America."

Greg h,
What President doesn't consult his advisors at all? It's not like he asked Bill to make the decision for him, he was just getting a feel of stuff from different opinions, he took all this into consideration, then outlined what stance he was going to take.
Obama has shown himself to make, calm, informed decisions unlike McCain who went flailing all the way to D.C and proposing to cancel the debate only to do a one-eighty. Reports from Dems and Repubs there say McCain didn't contribute anything and sat there quietly for forty minutes while Obama was asking questions.
Apparently McCain pulled that stunt on the advice of his campaign advisors. It tells me something that some of the people he pick aren't exactly good examples of great judgement.

Laura,
Go to factcheck.org. They have a nice, big photo of the official seal and the photographs of the cert taken from different angles for you.
How is it you think e-mails are a reliable source? It puzzles me.
Honestly, does it makes sense that the state would not even check the eligibility of someone running to be President when they are going to have to expend resources like Secret Service protection for him?

Grey Matter ,
You elect Presidents to make executive decisions and not be weak and indecisive consulting others.
Clinton confirmed that Obama was rather clueless and asking his help to understand the financial crisis.
What America does not need is another carter in the white house.

I would like to know why the issue of Obama’s birth certificate is not talked about on your show or any show. I get emails on this subject all the time stating that 7 states have filed writs demanding that Obama produce his birth certificate and that Hawaii is one of those states. I have received emails suggesting that the real reason he suspended his campaign and went to Hawaii was not to visit his sick grandmother but to fight the demand for him to produce his birth certificate. By the way, how is his sick grandmother? I have also received emails stating that he has produced a birth certificate but there was not an official seal or that it did not state the hospital where he was born or his weight and height. This should be an issue that is resolved BEFORE the election. This seems like it would be a reporters dream not only to uncover whether or not he is a natural born citizen but to uncover the “so-called Democratic Party” which should be called the “Socialist Party”. If nothing else, I think that it should be acknowledged on the television and radio that this issue does exist.
Thank you for listening to me
Laura

geevill,
Treatment? Yes it got dirty at times, if anything, it was the MEDIA who might have been derogatory towards Clinton, not Obama himself being sexist. To her credit, Hillary did not scream sexism but shrugged it off. That's a real female politician.
I will ask you one more time, Clinton stands for everything McCain is against and Obama is for. Roe v Wade. Iraq. Healthcare. How can you support McCain? HOW is McCain going to pay for all his programs?
I'm sorry, but I don't take Sarah Palin, who has demonstrated her lack of intelligence and worse, intellectual incuriousity as a substitute or anywhere near Clinton's equal. She is not on the same level as women like Hillary, Condi, Kay Bailey Hutchison or Snowe. She is NOT.

skinny dog,
McCain: There's NO history of violence between Shiite and Sunni!
Reality: Civil war in Iraq between these two groups until the stop-gap surge managed to tamp it down.
McCain: Ahmadinejad controls ALL the power in Iran!
Reality: The theocracy and descendents of the Ayatollah Khomeini and other religious clerics have even more influence then Ahmadinejad.
McCain: Iraq is the terror front!
Reality: Petraeus, Powell and all the other military commanders say it's Afghanistan and Pakistan.
McCain: We can just muddle through Afghanistan.
What does this show ab out his thinking? It shows he's careless AND callous. And doesn't know a single thing about REALITY.

of course it would not be that way,
all of the particulars involved in whatever the crisis will be notified.
the question is Who does john Mccain call?
Palin? George W. bush? Cheney?

We have a phony Liar who knows no ####.

When the Liar 0bama did not needed the former Pres, and used him against his wife, the Liar said the Clinton Administration and the Bush Administration were the same. And, he race-baited the poor Pros.
Now he needs the former Pres. to rescue his convention, what is calling him now?
Posted by: skinny dog | Oct 30, 2008 10:25:34 AM
Greg h,
Yeah, I'd rather someone like McCain who doesn't even bother check the facts (saying he opposed the bailout when he hadn't even read the then 3 PAGE LONG plan), and presses the button without a second thought.

No cliff,
I think it was the republicans, george bush, henry paulson, who delivered the crap to us.

So assuming Obama is in the white house, he has a emergency call at 3 a.m.
Instead of making a decision, he calls Buffet, Pelosi, Clinton etc..
And this makes Obama a great candidate?
It is laughable that this guy Obama is even considered for the presidency.

well geevil,
good for you, you are going to vote for mccain.
I am an diehard hillary supporter,
and was plugging for her all the way during the primary. but since the convention, and hillary endorsement of obama, I am still with supporting hillary in her support for obama.
she is up close and personal with him'
hillary' my eyes and ears to obama.
and i always believed hillary had my best interest at heart- and when it comes to a choice between mccain and obama, i through hillary believe obama has my best interest at heart.
i do not make over 250k nor am i a bigwig with a corp.
i am a small business owner, and i will still fare better with obama.
anyone who is a supporter of hillary and what she stands for-will clearly see between obama and mccain
obama wins hands down.
noway, no how", no mccain-HRC dnc convention 2008

geevill,
Okay, Hillary is pro-choice, yet you're okay with a ticket that wants to overturn Roe v Wade by appointing to more conservative US Supreme Court Justices to an already lopsided conservative Supreme Court Justice bench?
Hillary would sooner we got out of Iraq, McCain wants to stay and bleed us of $10 billion per month.
Hillary thinks we need to fix the broken health care system, and NOT by having privatization or giving everybody $5000 health care credits (which can't even pay for one plan).
McCain wants to do all this wonderful stuff, but HOW is he going to pay for it if he's not raising taxes for ANYONE?
Posted by: Grey Matter | Oct 30, 2008 10:09:23 AM
geevil,
obama didn't call joe biden, because joe was right there with him.
all of you people calling for tapes and such.
you don't even believe the people when they are standing there live talking in real time.
If you believe bill clinton,
then you will see why when bill has a choice between voting for obama or voting for mccain.
bill will be voting for obama.
I wonder when they are going to release the take of obama' long lost dog "BARKIE" barking for joe the plumber?
Posted by: cheer up, smile, nertz! | Oct 30, 2008 10:05:51 AM
geevill,
What Michelle tape?
Can you please be logical, is it not possible that he consulted BOTH Biden and Clinton?
I think McCain, in his mind, doesn't respect Sarah Palin's opinion, and probably doesn't even bother consult her, probably why some of her responses about Pakistan were "off" and they told her to retract her statement. What does THAT say?
Posted by: Grey Matter | Oct 30, 2008 10:00:04 AM
"come on now, you were going to vote for mccain at any rate.'
I was going to vote for Clinton, unless she chose Obama as VP. Obama supporters have lost more votes for him than they can ever imagine.
Posted by: geevill | Oct 30, 2008 9:59:12 AM
Why did Obama allegedly call Clinton (probably didn't) and not Joe Biden?????
How about that Michelle tape being played soon!
Posted by: geevill | Oct 30, 2008 9:57:45 AM
easye,
of course, bill is more of a statesman, and he should be, and thank god that this country and obama have him, and others like hime to go to if need be.
A good president will always rely on the good sound advice from former presidents. my question to you, easye,
Who does mccain have to go to? because he sure should have gone to that person, before he picked palin.
no mccain THINKS he is the statesman, and therefore does not need to seek advice from anyone else, (a bad way to think for a president-george w, was the same way. or he just let cheney do the thinking for him-still bad)
mccain supported bush 90 percent of the time. we don't need to take a chance that mccain will go to george w in the slightest for advise about anything.
it maybe too late, because mccain hired the same people who sacked his campaign for president against bush in 2000. so he is already taking advice from bush people, we cannot take that chance.
mccain going to george w. for advice
against
obama going to bill c. for advice.
who do you think the ocuntry will be better off with?
----------
and geevil-bill clinton convienced you to vote for mccain-come on now, you were going to vote for mccain at any rate.
mccain gives more deer in the headlight looks that any of the four of them.
just last night on larry king with cnn,
he had several.
and with tom brokaw he had several.
I think his are more-"senior moments"
rather than deer in the headlight looks.

Corey B,
McCain has yet to show me how his experience has enhanced his judgement.
Obama may not be as experienced, but he HAS shown he has the intelligence and temperament to be president, and he picked a good-back up and confidant, Joe Biden.
I have to admit I almost pity Sarah Palin. I can see McCain picked her only to win the election and to draw crowds- which for all her failings, she manages to do, unlike McCain- he has no intention of giving her a role in policy making. She's going to be relegated to a ceremonial role, and I can't see her liking that much.
