Local GOP Group's Mailing Shows Obama's Face, Watermelon, Ribs, Fried Chicken on Food Stamps
October 17, 2008 8:17 AM
The Press-Enterprise in California reports that a recent newsletter of the Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated, in California, envisions a President Barack Obama putting his face on food stamps, surrounded by a watermelon, ribs and a bucket of fried chicken.
"Obama talks about all those presidents that got their names on bills," reads the newsletter. "If elected, what bill would he be on????? Food Stamps, what else!"
The president of the GOP group, Diane Fedele, says it "was strictly an attempt to point out the outrageousness of his statement. I really don't want to go into it any further. I absolutely apologize to anyone who was offended. That clearly wasn't my attempt.
"I didn't see it the way that it's being taken. I never connected," she says. "It was just food to me. It didn't mean anything else."
The story also says, "Fedele said she got the illustration in a number of chain e-mails and decided to reprint it for her members in the Trumpeter newsletter because she was offended that Obama would draw attention to his own race."

The republicans are all about scare tactics, and underhanded dirty tricks all from Roves play book. The Bush camp came out with Sen. McCain had a black love child, so Bush would win the nomination. In order for Bush to win in 2004, a know thing to get the republicans off their tractors and out of their compound in those little bitty towns and rural areas, the republican machines put same sex marriage on the ballots and guess what Bush won again. Then all of sudden the code went from yellow to orange, gas prices fell (Bush and Cheney are oil men) and talk about terrorism was on all TV stations. When Bush was elected the code went back to Yellow, terrorism was not on the TV 24/7, and gas prices rose again. The Republican Machine is at it again, but what is funny is that if a Republican has a pregnant daughter and she is under age and not married it is ok, but if the shoe was on the other foot all hell would break loose. If some one is seen as pallin with terrorist even though the guy was 8 when this happen it is talk of the town, but when someone belongs to a faction that wants nothing to do with American and even got IRAN to help finance them so they can denounce American at the UN, this is ok. Then you have Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac, it is ok for the Republican to have a campaign manage that work high up in Freddy Mac, but if the other guy so much had talk to any one high up it is a crime. Yep they like to scare the American public to ignore their shot coming, and they think the public is blind and some are as we see. The facts get spun to their views with no regard for the truth. People can look up the facts themselves to find the truth and the Republicans are hoping you don’t. Yes you will see flaws on both sides but they do not want you to, for fear you will see theirs.

Wow, racist Republicans. I'm shocked.

The "Chaffey Community Republican Women"? Wow, what an awesome force to be reckoned with! Wonder how McCain is going to do in California? He's gonna win now that he has the "Chaffey Community Republican Women" in his corner!

WHEN I CAME TO THE UNITED STATE AT THE AGE OF 14,I DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE WORD RACISM MEANT? I WAS LAUGHED AT. MAYBE I WAS WELL DISCIPLINED TO LOVE EACH AND EVERYONE EQUALLY. WHAT A SHAME MOST OF THESE AMERICAN ARE SO "RACIST". YES RACISM STILL EXIST IN AMERICA.

This woman knew full well she was making a racist statement. She's a racist who trys to hide behind some lame attempt of black sterotypes. Wake up woman, get educated and live in the present, a diverse America!

At least Murtha admitted he was wrong and apologized. This woman doesn't even think she did anything wrong. And what about all the members of the group that received the newsletter? Only one person complained - 1 of the 2 AA women. Murtha's comment was stupid, but then again maybe he's right. Maybe he just said what we already know. Some people aren't going to vote for Obama because he's AA - that's being racist. I can understand his comment even though it wasn't helpful. This food stamp thing is in a totally different ballgame. It's horrible, and racist.

"Was is a racist joke? Absolutely, but it wasn't malicious in any way."
The mind boggles.

Look up the name Joe Vogler and get a load of his hate speech about the "lower 48" as the AIP refer to us. That takes care of Palin. Add to that McCains tie to G. Gordon Liddy, Charles Keating, and the current campaign to supress voters and this piece of racist crap should be no surprise to you. Same crap the GOP pulled in 2000 and 2004
Shame on the republicans.

Can anyone at this board tell me the reason why a comment I made to this thread yesterday at 2:02:45 p.m. was removed? There was no objectionable language in it, and no external links. All it did was criticize liberalism. While disapproving of the racism shown by at least some in this Republican group, I pointed out liberal prejudice which never gets acknowledged or corrected. Liberalism says blacks (and other minorities) and women who aren’t liberal aren’t actual blacks or women, but whites or men who happen to have different physical features or anatomy. And liberalism takes possibly racist or sexist words or actions of others and paints them in the worst possible light, as though the people committing them can’t possibly be mostly non-prejudiced but saying something racist or sexist because of upbringing or lack of awareness. On the other hand, liberals will say it’s impossible for them to say or do anything the slightest bit racist or sexist because they’re purely neither. And, lastly, I mentioned that liberals allow themselves to speak hatefully of lower and working class whites who don’t share their views. The standard is, we’re supposed to look at speech and actions and let them speak for themselves, but that’s somehow different when calling people “white trash” or “trailer park trash.” And I offered two of many examples: Canadian writer for the CBC, Heather Mallick, on the “white trash vote,” and Bill Maher, writing about “Wal-Mart shopper(s).”

First off, I want to say that I've given up on caring about politics because of occurences like this. I wasn't offended by the "food stamp" that was drawn up because I understand that it was just a joke. Was is a racist joke? Absolutely, but it wasn't malicious in any way. What really makes me mad is that all of the democrats in here want to blame McCain for it, which is an absolutely rediculous statement considering this was in a rinky-dink republican woman's newsletter who none of us knew about before now. I'm willing to bet McCain himself has never heard of the "Chaffey Community Republican Women" newsletter. Anyways, my point being that political arguments like this are completely inconsequential to anything because this is all about opinions, sometimes backed by facts stretched and contorted to match the argument of the person saying it. I think you all need a reality check and realize that voting doesn't do anything for us other than putting the person we want in office. And what do we all vote on? What the candidate says he/she will do once elected. Well everyone... all politicians are liars whether you want to believe it or not, and your vote will do no good because regardless of who gets into office, very little of what YOU want to be done will be. So I'm not going to waste 2 hours of my life standing in line just for a self-validation that I'm doing what I "should" be doing. But to each his/her own, and how you want to spend your time is up to you. Maybe instead of voting you could spend a couple hours doing some community service, I bet that helps our country a lot more.

I wonder if those that are retired on Social Security with no other income that are making their house and car payments will reap any cash benefits if Obama is elected or will those benefits be witheld for his supporters? How about food stamps for those that make under $25,000 a year. I could use free medical care, I am paying for Medicare A, B and D. Can I get the benefit of Universal Health Care or is it reserved for others? Not that I think he can get it passed.

Frankly, I would rather eat fried chicken and watermellon than Wonder bread and Tang.

Despite her protestionss, it would appear that Diane Fedele is a bigot. If she really is not, then she must be an idiot. THESE are the Americans McCain is so proud to have support him? It is shameful. He has taken his status from American hero to loathsome old hack.

Only racists make things like this and find a way to justify its stupidity...only they don't have the guts to say what they are when confronted. Cowards, losers and they need to get over themselves. For the black woman who found this offensive I suggest you might want to rethink which party you're with, and I'm so sorry that this offended you...it's offensive to me, too, and I'm white. God bless you and I'm glad you spoke up against this.

If you are a normal person
you would like watermelon,
ribs and fried chicken.
There is no racism in the
depiction.
The real racism is that
the most number of people
on welfare are whites. And
they are propagating the
fiction that it is the blacks.
The Republicans have put
more people in economic
distress and many are forced
to apply for food stamps
and other governmental
assistance.

Unfortunately, I now associate the word "republican" with "racist"; a sad bunch of nitwits.
Posted by: liz | Oct 18, 2008 12:00:24 PM
This kind of BS racism will definitely get Obama elected; keep it up and we'll certainly have him in office.

The repubs are REALLY showing their ignorance and bigotry this year. Methinks that woman who wears a stinky old white hood and put those ridiculous stamps out just needs a good lay, as do most of the selfish repubs. Careful lest you get spanked as you deserve. God dislikes your behaviors and thoughts very much.

Response to OurCountryFirst: Are you Republic GOPers still talking about Obama's citizenship? It has already been proven that because his mother is an American citizen and he was born in Hawaii 2 years after it became an official state of the US that he IS an American citizen. Why do you GOPers keep repeating yourselves over and over and over and over again about the same stuff?? Guess that's all you have. Maybe you're hoping kind of like cult leaders, if they repeat stuff enough times then it just gets robotically ingrained into people's brains. Please STOP trying to take advantage of us and our intelligence!!

I'm sure McCain will not repudiate these GOPers and what they're doing. He is fully on board with what they're doing as far as I can see. He's letting these organized GOPers, and Sarah Palin be his attack dogs while he just kinda slings a little bit of it, so it doesn't look like he's really the hate-monger, but you know what it's so obvious. I am a white female, 41 and even I can see this. I don't know who they think they're fooling. But they are NOT fooling me. I'm glad I have more intelligence and moral conviction that that!
