Lox and Latkes: Obama Does Ft. Lauderdale

October 21, 2008 5:53 PM

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., walked into the Deli Den in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Tuesday afternoon with his Florida Jewish posse -- Democratic Reps. Robert Wexler and Debbie Wasserman Schultz -- as well as former astronaut Sen. Bill Nelson and his wife Grace.

There was much kibitzing about what to get.

"Let's see what we got here,” Obama said as Wexler and Wasserman Schultz offered their tips. (Example: “The latkes are good.”)

“We're gonna get some whitefish,” said Obama.

"You want the whitefish salad?” asked Wasserman Schultz. “Or the whitefish?"

"The whitefish salad, rather,” Obama clarified. “The whitefish salad."

“You ask for whitefish you get the whole fish,” Wasserman Schultz explained.

"I don't need a whole fish,” Obama said laughing.

Obama also said he would get some lox. After a discussion of what kind, he decided on half a pound of nova.

“It can't hurt to get a pickle,” Obama added.

He also asked for some latkes.

“Get him some apple sauce with that,” said Wexler. Obama also got some cream cheese.

“We’re going to need some bagels to go with that cream cheese,” Obama suggested. “I like poppyseed.” Wexler wanted whole wheat.

“We’ll get a couple poppyseed, couple of salt, couple of plain,” Obama said. “And to cap this off, we should probably get a cookie. Oatmeal raisin is a great Jewish tradition,” he said with a laugh. “And one black and white cookie."

“Make it two,” said Wasserman Schultz.

“Two black and white cookies,” Obama said, channeling Seinfeld. “It's a unity cookie.”

Obama also stopped by the Neighborhood Unisex Salon, a barber shop with a predominantly African-American clientele. After some chit chat, Obama reminded the folks in the salon, “You know everybody can early vote, right? Right down the street, so I want to make sure anybody that comes in and sits in that chair, you got to tell 'em go early vote. No excuses. No excuses.”

Addressing volunteers, Obama said, "Hey, everybody, just very quickly, I can't thank you guys enough for all the great work you're doing.  You're really the foundation of this campaign. We've got people who are locally from here, we've got folks who've flew in from Oakland, from Massachusetts, California. We've got just people who are working really hard, we've got two more weeks. We cannot let up one bit.  But I promise you if we do everything we can, if we work as hard as we can in the next two weeks, we're gonna win Florida, we're going to win this election."

Eddie 8:13:24 Try to keep up. Listen to Bill and Bernardine say a few words at the SDS reunion last November 30 and you tell me if they've changed in the last 40 years. Obama only talks about them when he's caught in a lie. How many times has he changed his story now? As far as conspiring-I think they used each other. Good teachers teach without a personal agenda. It's a strange mix, Obama, Ayers and Khalidi, isn't it. And even stranger are the scrubbed websites, missing information, going after anyone who disagrees. What does that sound like to you?

Well, in all fairness, since he got cream he couln't take pastrami: it wouldn't have been kosher.

RL, try to keep up. Obama has talked about working with Ayers on at least five interviews, and the last debate. That line is a snipit of what he has said. There were others that worked on that commity. Including 3 republicans. Not to mention Ayers is a member of the faculty and a professor. So what exactly is your point in this? After 40 years you think Obama and Ayers were conspiring against the US government, or perhaps they were planning some kind of terrorist attack.Or maybe a coo. And I'm sure the 3 republicans on the commitee weren't involved. Do you people realize how ridiculas you all sound.

No hot pastrami sandwich? And Sen. Obama dares to qualify himself as a "unifier?" I daresay I have never heard of such a thing!

And when we are on the subject of John Kennedy... If you have ANY concept of political history in the U.S., you know that Chicago - under the first Mayor Daly - trumped Boston and Philly as the home of corrupt ward politics and voter registration fraud. They didn't have to register fish. They had corpses vote. John Kennedy won his election because Daly held out the Metro results until the rest of Illinois vote was tallied. Then, with a great flourish, he and his election supervisor announced that the Cook County vote, with it's 660,000 vote majority of JFK was JUST enough to swing the state, the electoral votes, and the election to JFK. Boston and Philly did their best to produce the greatest number of voting-cadavers. Daly won the contest hands-down. And that my friend is how Democrats steal elections. So enjoy you whitefish and read your history. The only difference to day is the blatant actions of ACORN, Political Majors, and the rest of the vote scavengers that are halling busses full of druggies and street people to the polls to register and vote on the same day. What a brilliant idea that was for the Dems. Next week, most of these people, like Daly's stiffs, you won't be able to find. But their votes will count just as much as yours Mr. and Mrs. Tax-payer. Sleep well tonight with that knowledge!

Jake Tapper --- you have finally written an article of interest --- people are fed up of stump speeches and the 'back and forths' --- the people who count have decided what the are going to do on election day --- the press have been repeating the same lines over and over.

How about a little insight into the non-stump stuff --- might even change a 'mind or two' --- like todays article

Read this story on AOL today-the MSM didn't pick it up last week. According to the Chicago Annenberg Challange info from 2002 the total amount of funds given to Bill Ayers' Small Schools Workshop from 1995 to 2001 under Obama's direct supervision was $1,056,162. Adding that amount to the money given by the Joyce Foundation and the Woods Fund during Obama's tenure it brings the total to $1,968,718. This doesn't count the 3/4 Million that went to John Ayers(his brother)during that same period of time. By the way, there were pictures of the building that Obama and Ayers shared. As a matter fact, they were on the 3rd floor together...shared the same office? For anyone who still doesn't think Obama lied about just a guy in his neighborhood, you might want to check it out.

Sunday, 10/19/08, Senator Biden, in a preemptive comment, warned, “"Mark my words. Within the next, first six months of this administration, if we win, there going to -- we're going to face a major international challenge. Because they're going to want to test him, just like they did young John Kennedy. They're going to want to test him. And they're going to find out this guy's got steel in his spine." I grew up during the Cuban missile crisis. I don’t want anyone’s children or grandchildren to experience that again. Today, with Hugo Chavez stocks up with billions of dollars worth of Russian weapons, including heavy tanks, artillery and long-range bombers. Can anyone doubt that when Castro finally dies, Chavez will use Putin’s support to do everything to keep socialism in Cuba? And Can anyone really be so naïve as to think that a first-term Senator who espouses so may socialist ideas is going to do anything to stop Chavez before it’s too late. And how long before the independent Latin bully brings missiles and nuclear weapons to the island? The media love to repeat the “Spine of Steel” comment. (Oddly, I recall that this was being used to describe Hillary Clinton during her campaign. They have said very little about that “First Six Months” comment that was the crux of Biden's comments. And what if the test is within our borders? Think carefully Miami! Think carefully America. (As was once said in a debate long ago, "I knew John Kennedy, Senator, and you're no John Kennedy.")

Obama will win this election. Republicans and McSame wrecked the economy.

Case closed.

It astounds me to read so much vitriol in response to Obama going out among people in Hollywood.

I love my country... but I'm ashamed of some of the hate being projected during this election.

Yeah, let's to the fluff pieces about what BO ordered at a deli, pandering all over the state. He's only running for president. Why do we need specifics? Just Believe.

For once I agree with you neo-cons, this isn't important.

Not when news that the AP has proof that Palin defrauded the State of Alaska but altered her expense accounts to cover it up.

They have proof that Palin is not only a THIEF but also a LIAR.

Maybe this is what McSame thinks makes her a "maverick", being dishonest.

The deli scene causes one to wonder how Obama stays so skinny?

A proud Barack Obama volunteer in PA

Who the heck cares what he orders? Even if he had asked for kimchi with all of that, I'd still vote for him. Go Obama!!

ABC, was this really important, asking what some politicians are gonna eat? I think not.

"Speaking of fish today...There was that dead goldfish in Chicago that received voter registration material in the mail."

Speaking of voter registration scandals.

The head of a voter registration group hired by the California Republican Party was arrested over the weekend for allegedly lying about his address in the state in order to vote illegally, the office of California's secretary of state announced Sunday.

Mark Anthony Jacoby, the owner of a signature-gathering firm called Young Political Majors, was taken into custody by Ontario police just after midnight Saturday and booked with a felony punishable by up to three years in prison.

Jacoby allegedly registered himself at his childhood home in Los Angeles, even though he no longer lives there. It is voter fraud to register if ineligible and perjury to provide false information on a voter registration card. Jacoby was charged with two counts of each relating to his 2006 and 2007 registration.

"Voter registration fraud is a serious issue, which is why I vigorously investigate all allegations of elections fraud," said Bowen, California's chief elections officer. "Where there's a case to be made, I will forward it to law enforcement for criminal prosecution."

An arraignment date has not been scheduled yet. Bail was set at $50,000.

According to The Los Angeles Times, Jacoby's firm was paid $7 to $12 by the CRP for each GOP voter registration signature, but dozens of voters who signed on said they were duped into registering as Republicans and thought they were signing a petition to toughen penalties against child molesters.

"I literally almost hated Debbie wasserman Schultz during the primaries...in the heat of the primaries"

She is absolutely maddening to go up against. She's relentless.

I'm glad she is a Democrat.

He made Auchi, Khalidi & wife, Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson(could have told the Zionist story), and the great Rev. Wright stay home on this trip.
