McCain Ads Hit Obama on "Spread the Wealth" Comments
October 23, 2008 2:41 PM
On TV and radio, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is hitting his rival, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., on his "spread the wealth" comments he made to Joe Wurzelbacher, aka Joe the Plumber. The full exchange between the two can be seen and read HERE.
In this TV ad...
...and this radio ad...
...McCain assails the comments as indicative of a big-taxing mindset.
The radio ad features Florida Gov. Charlie Crist saying: "Hi, this is Governor Charlie Crist. Let me tell you why I support my friend John McCain. He will lower your taxes. He will stop wasteful government spending. And John McCain knows that people don't want to 'spread the wealth.'
"He knows that Congress should let you keep more of your money, and not take it away."
An announcer adds: "Your savings, your job and your financial security are under siege. Congressional liberals will make it worse. Congressional liberals plan nearly a trillion dollars in new government spending. To pay for it, Congressional liberals promise higher taxes on American families making over $42,000 a year.
"Barack Obama and Congressional liberals call it spreading the wealth around, we call it higher taxes, bigger government. Either way, it will cost you. Stop 'em before they make it worse."

"And yet we are still here and we are still a democracy."
Ryan, we live in a Republic. Try reading the Constitution instead of working for a candidate determined to gut it.
Lesson as always: lefties know nothing about their government, nor do they care to know. That screws up their fantasies.

Mack: I'm sorry, but if you are a 20 year old girl and your face has been "maimed" you want medical care. You simply cannot find me a single 20 year old girl, who has been "maimed" and is facing a horrible scar on her face who would not want medical care. Not one. I am terribly sorry for this assault and again, I hope she is in the arms of a loving family, but Matt Drudge is attempting to both change this story and politicize this story. Both are callous and wrong. I believe the story from the hometown paper, which says very clearly that police are investigating the incident and the victim did not want medical care.
Your statistic on victims is skewed by the fact that most violent crimes are between gang members. They do not seek medical care because it could lead to arrest. The statistics on rape are also alarming.
I certainly do not doubt that this young woman was robbed and is terrified. But if someone is "maimed or mutilated" and they do not want care, there is a backstory. I'm sure it will all come out. I'd look someplace besides the Drudge report to find it.

Obama says there are 57 states and Biden says JOBS is a three letter word and Obama is gonna give a tax cut to those who pay no taxes. Wonder where these two guys learned basic math. Both speak in forked tongues and fizzy math. Both are total jokes.
Obama and Biden for the weak minded and dim witted. Those people have their hands out for another freebie.

Mary,
I would post all of McCain/Palin's blunders but there isn't enough room on the blog. Did you ever stop to think that people are tired of the Republican antics and are tired of their failed policies?

Doesn't Europe also have the VAT tax? That would effectively make their tax rates on corporations higher.

"Barack Obama has more than doubled his lead over John McCain in Minnesota. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state finds the democrat leading 56% to 41%." FOX news.

Wade,
1 last point before I go.
While corporate taxes rates are lower in Europe the personal income tax rate is much higher.

"Alexander Fraser Tyler, Cycle of Democracy (1770)
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury.
From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over lousy fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.
The average of the world’s great civilizations before they decline has been 200 years. These nations have progressed in this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; from faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to Complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependency; from dependency back again to bondage
Where would you say we are in the cycle now?

"Why wouldn't she seek medical care? "
Only 16% of victims of crime seek medical care.

Wade,
Yes Obama has flirted with eliminating the cap entirely but he backed off that when Hillary hit him that middle income (especially two income families) would get smacked by it.
As far as the corporate tax goes, I would agree with you that it is highly unlikely to see a rate cut there under Obama.
I don't think either guy's plans will remain as is. And though I certainly love exploring the details at the end of that day its the more generalized picture that we vote on vs who gives the larger child tax credit to families of 5.

(CBS) With just twelve days left until Election Day, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama holds a 13-point lead over Republican rival John McCain, a new CBS News/New York Times poll shows."
The electorate is not falling for the old Republican shtick this time; they've seen it before - and seen the results.
Swift Boat Rove tactics just aren't working. The electorate wants the Republicans out of office.

They state very clearly that the young woman declined medical care. It is difficult for me to imagine anyone declining any level of medical care if they have been maimed. "
There is a photo of her with a big B on her face that she has to walk around with for how ever long it takes to heal.

"In addition, I am a firm believer that corporate tax rates should be cut...see EUROPE for examples...leads to jobs, etc. "
Someone has to punish the evil rich for being evil and rich.

"Democratic landslide is on the way."
It's closer than you think or would like to believe.
Posted by: Mack | Oct 23, 2008 7:44:52 PM
Ryan,
Oh. Well, I just don't believe him...last year he said:
"If we kept the payroll tax rate exactly the same but applied it to all earnings and not just the first $97,000," Obama wrote this week in an Iowa newspaper, "we could eliminate the entire Social Security shortfall."
The bottom line is I just don't trust that his plans will remain as they are.
In addition, I am a firm believer that corporate tax rates should be cut...see EUROPE for examples...leads to jobs, etc.
Never happen under Obama

Obama is a fraud. "Righteous wind" and "rhetorical flourish" and "I need to visit my poor sick grandma"?! LOL And his followers say: Awwww, what a class act. He's a politician folks! LOL LOL

"Ok, so the 250 cap on "not a single penny" or whatever is now 200... 2-4% is 4000-8000, so if you make 210, you get hit."
Wade it would be on the income above $200K.
So if you made $210,000. Your additional tax liability would be $200 to $400.
The rub of course is that tax increase could be wiped out by other cuts.

Mack: I have nothing but sympathy for the 20 year old woman who has just been through a terrifying experience. I've had a knife at my throat. It takes a long, long time to recover. But your information is from the Drudge report. The hometown paper describes the incident in a more straightforward way.
They state very clearly that the young woman declined medical care. It is difficult for me to imagine anyone declining any level of medical care if they have been maimed.
I sincerely hope that she gets all of the help she needs and that she has a family who will hold her and that the criminal is arrested.
I also hope that really, really sick people do not show excitement at the expense of a very young woman who has just been through probably the worst experience of her life. And that includes Matt Drudge.
