McCain-Backing Jackie Mason Takes on Obama-Supporting Sarah Silverman
October 03, 2008 2:07 PM
The Republican Jewish Coalition has released a video in which comedian Jackie Mason responds to comedian Sarah Silverman's push to have young Jews go down to Florida to urge their grandparents to vote for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
"If Barack Obama doesn't become the next president of the United States, I'm going to blame the Jews," Silverman says in the video, speaking on behalf of The Great Schlep, saying that older Jewish grandparents in Florida may be reluctant to vote for a candidate with a "scary" sounding Muslim name.
Mason, a supporter of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., kvetched that Silverman "didn't tell you one good reason to vote for him," faulting Silverman for implying Obama opponents are bigots.
"She's a sick yenta for mentioning it," he said.

I never realized Jackie Mason was a comedian. Just a loud-mouthed obnoxious schmuck.

I'm with Captain America...you don't even have the video of Jacke Mason guy. Come on now. Be serious, it seems like the only thing people have to hate about Obama is the color of his skin. Palin looked over about 7,000 people...and she thinks she can help run a whold country, and McCain....helllooooo do you peolpe want to be at war for the rest of out lives and kill more and more of our troops? And why are we helping rebuild what we blow up? They didn't rebuild the damage they did....Get over it people we need Obama!!!! It's time for a real damn change!

The last 8 years the Bush policies on Middle East make Israel more vulnerable.
The last 8 years elderly Jewish people had seen their life restricted by the bad economy.
McCain equal Bush .Jew people want Change .Want OBAMA!

When it comes to current politics comedians Sarah Silverman, Jon Stewart, Steve Colbert, David Letterman and Chris Rock are like the Will Rogers of our time. If Will Rodgers were alive today Schmidt, Rove and the neo conservatives would attack him too.
Heres a cool tidbit Will Rodgers is part Cherokee :-)

Without the klezmer and the laugh track, Jackie Mason's got bubkas!!

it's perfectly fine with me that mason, that washed up old racist relic who gets paid for openly disparaging black people, has aligned himself with a campaign as disgraceful as john sidney mccain's. birds of a feather, as they say. other jews should be disgraced mason uses their heritage to spout hate. he's as bad as david duke.

We love Sarah Silverman more then Jackie Mason. Take that McCain/Bush/Schmidt/Rove!

The reality is that Mason's video was brought to us by the RJC - a Sheldon Adelson front organization. Adelson has made his money off of Vegas gambling and he funds far-right Israeli politics. Mason might as well be filmed in a west bank settlement wearing an uzi in this video while pulling on a adelson slot machine.

I think Mr. Mason missed her point completely, either that or he is so in line with McCain that he's more than happy to distort the truth about Sarah Silverman. Not once does she accuse the older Jews of being bigots. Her point is that young Jewish Obama supporters should head to Florida to convince their older relatives, specifically grandparents to vote. Oy!

Silverman is making a play for older Democratic Jews who say they won't vote for Obama. She knows that the reason is because he's black. Of course, there are Republican Jews who won't support him like Mason. Although Mason is a bigot, he would never vote Democrat under any circumstances.

Wow! Jackie Mason is still alive!

Mason was crass, crude, offensive, vulgar, and racist before Silverman was born.
Silvernam is following in Mason's footsteps.

Yeah, that's poop politics alright. Silverman is rather racist. She isn't funny but she can act like she is and apparently, today's audience just needs a good act. Otherwise, Obama would be back in Illinois already.

Ouch!!!
PS, Silverman is annoying. And stupid. Crass and crude.

Is it just me, or is Jackie's video not funny? I mean, the laugh track, the text of what he's saying, it's all just so cheesy.

Seriously, can we all just calm down and appreciate how hilarious this is? We haven't seen a pop-politics confrontation like this since Count Chocula took Cap'n Crunch to task for supporting George H.W. Bush against Dukakis. If you'll recall it got real awkward when Crunch's people accused Chocula of being a foreigner with no right to makes these kinds of claims. Chocula returned fire by attacking Cap'n Crunch's war record...
The point is that this is funny, it's nothing to get upset about or write generic spin, just enjoy the rare moment of levity.

LOL.
Man. Times are rough over in the McCain camp. Gallup and Rasmusseen Poll: Obama +7
Electoral Map: Obama 300+
It's a landslide.

so both of these folks are Jewish?
Posted by: colorado | Oct 3, 2008 2:37:32 PM
They are both comedians who have made frequent and highly disrespectful use of being Jewish in their acts.
Mason was moderately well known in the 1970s. Silverman is pretty successful now and has a show on Comedy Central.

"But she does imply that older Jewish Americans are bias and incapable of getting beyond their supposed bias to vote for Obama. Again, she gives no other rationale, like substance."
This reminds me of Tucker Carlson going after Jon Stewart for giving Kerry a soft interview.
She's a comedienne for crissakes.
Jackie Mason? He's a racist that got the ax from Rudy back in the day so naturally he thought Silverman was talking about him in her video and he got defensive.

You can take issue with Jackie all you want, but, funny, you don't take issue with the message in his rebuttal.
Sarah doesn't tell anything about Obama's accomplishment as to why grandparents should vote for him.
But she does imply that older Jewish Americans are bias and incapable of getting beyond their supposed bias to vote for Obama. Again, she gives no other rationale, like substance.

Her video was just funny. What's the big deal.
Posted by: Sandra | Oct 3, 2008 2:34:39 PM
Take it for what it is, they are both comedians, that's it.
Vote for someone because their ideas coincide with your own.
Either way you get what you deserve.

Jackie Mason isn't dead? How is that possible?
Posted by: GreggW | Oct 3, 2008 2:31:38 PM
Excuse me, but just a little bias here?
You peg your headline to Jackie Mason taking on Sarah Silverman.
But, the only clip you show is Sarah Silverman, requiring viewers to link to Jackie Mason's rebuttal.
Time to let the grown ups see both of the clips off this page if you are hoping to be fair.
Posted by: Captain America | Oct 3, 2008 2:30:23 PM
I would assume that the Democrats should be just as proud of Sarah Silverman??
Posted by: tigger | Oct 3, 2008 2:27:16 PM
Both of these comics have filthy mouths.I don't believe either one will have an impression on the grandparents. However, Silverman will have more influence with the younger generation. Mason, though ordained as a rabbi-- yes, for real -- has a mouth like a sewer. The Republicans must really be desperate to call upon him to be a persuasive spokesman for McCain/Palin.
