McCain Camp: Duberstein Lobbied to Be Our Transition Chief; Duberstein Calls that ‘Bulls***’
October 31, 2008 6:03 PM
Reacting to the news that Ken Duberstein -- former White House chief of staff to President Ronald Reagan and an adviser to Sen. John McCain's, R-Ariz., campaign eight years ago -- today endorsed Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., four McCain campaign advisers tell ABC News that in July Duberstein unsuccessfully lobbied to head McCain's transition team should he win the presidency.
"Absolute, complete bulls***," Duberstein responded to the charge, when contacted by ABC News.
"Someone outside the McCain campaign approached me and said I'd be the ideal candidate to head the transition," Duberstein said. "I said, 'For what?'"
Four senior McCain advisers recall it a little differently. They say Duberstein reached out to someone affiliated with the campaign to throw his hat into the ring.
Either way, Duberstein's announcement -- he seems to have been most positively influenced by the Obama endorsement by his close friend Gen. Colin Powell (Ret.), most turned off by McCain's selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin -- is just the latest in a series of high-profile Republicans backing the front-running Democrat.

UPDATE: A senior McCain adviser tells me that Duberstein in September also reached out directly to McCain after the Republican convention to ask for the job. Duberstein says that's not true.

So what if he reached out for a job in July or September . . . That was BEFORE he picked Palin.

So now what...I make over $150 or 120 or whatever...and i am still voting for Obama...mainly b/c i think McPalin has run a horrible campaign,...and if this is any indication how they will run the country...I want no part of it...Politicians hv to deal with all sorts of people, and if we discounted them for that we'd have no one in office...Anyone remember the Bush-Bin Laden connection?? Oh yes...they're families were so intertwined it wasn't funny...so let's stop talking about "associations" (finger quotes)...you know what at this point Obama only has to go up from these past 8 years...we can't get any lower...The country is broke, the rest of the world hates us, we don't care about the elderly or the young or the poor or the homeless...Education is no longer valued and we have a bunch of greedy crooked politicians...

Timmy: McCain's Skeletons in his Closet
McCain was part of the Keating scandal in the mid 1980's:Charles Keating was convicted of racketeering and fraud in both state and federal court after his Lincoln Savings & Loan collapsed, costing the taxpayers $3.4 billion.
McCain has strong ties to G. Gordon Liddy. Talked about him in my previous post.
On strong family values, McCain divorced his first wife after she was in a car accident and probably didnt look so good anymore, good values. His present wife, Cindy- has had some trouble with prescriptions drugs: Vicodin and Percocet!
Mafia Ties: Arizona (which borders Nevada) has long had a serious presence. In the 1970s, a reporter was assassinated for looking into them. In 1995, McCain sent birthday regards, and regrets for not attending, to Joseph "Joe Bananas" Bonano, the head of the New York Bonano crime family, who had retired to Arizona. Another politician to send regrets was Governor Fife Symington, who has since been kicked out of office and convicted of 7 felonies relating to fraud and extortion.
Do your research, search the internet, look up more information on the Keating Scandal and G.Gordon Liddy, their connection to John McCain!

G. Gordon Liddy, who has gleefully committed felonies, plotted violent attacks against his political enemies and called for the assassination of federal law enforcement officers. But he's a Republican, so it's apparently okay.
Obama doesnt care about talking about this, because he prefers to talk about his plans and policies, how they differ from McCain, not this nonsense about ties to terrorists!

It's a wild stretch to believe that Duberstein would have reached out to the McCain campaign for a job because it was clear in July, and then again in Sept. after the Palin pick, that McCain was going to lose the election.

The only faint hope the Republicans think they have is to portray Senator Obama and the Democrats as demons - communists, terrorists, racist, america haters.
It's such a transparent and pathetic strategy, and it is the worst of American politics.
My advice to the Republican right wing is - you deserve to lose after the last 8 disastrous years in power - try to lose with a little dignity.

The AIP is a dangerous organization. It is one reason Sarah Palin will lose.

mrprez, please emlighten me. How is G Gordon Liddy a terrorist?
Posted by: Luis | Oct 31, 2008 11:35:46 PM
Obama went to a racist, anti-American church for about 20 years and heard the hateful rhetoric of Rev. Wright every Sunday for most of his adult life. Further, his close association with terrorist and radical friends has been coming to light slowly, reflecting his dark past. Obama seems to have too many skeletons in his closet. If voters could know the unvarnished truth about Obama's past, it seems McCain will win.

People that are supporting let's show our intelligence and support to one another by praising and not stooping to defeat's level...we must stay focused and remember that Change begins in ourselves;therefore we must seek to do good and not belittle one another no matter how badly we might think they deserve it.
Remember in order to obtain mercy we must show it...not saying we should not use the good sense God gave us but just look at ignorance...read, write, and erase it if you must and I'm not talking literally "Yes We Can" bring about Change in Our America!

It's interesting that all of the shouting from the right about obama's association with terrorists I never hear them bring up the most well known domestic terrorist G. Gordon Liddy.

The McCain campaign has proven it will SAY ANYTHING in an attempt to raise itself of the floor where it slithers, pathetically.
Posted by: TFoster | Oct 31, 2008 8:46:56 PM
Well probably because McCains, are already known, and old news, he has been in the Senate for awhile. Dredge it up, but it's all been heard already.
Posted by: Jeanie | Oct 31, 2008 8:31:18 PM
So that makes his association with less than desirable people ok? US COUNCIL FOR WORLD FREEDOM, G.Gordon Liddy, Keating, William Timmons, Transition Chief, funding of Khalidi.
All of this stuff with Obama was dredge up in the primary if you were paying attention.

Now for our friend Ken.
Board of Directors on which Mr. Duberstein serves are: The Boeing Company, Conoco, Inc., Fannie Mae, the Fleming Companies, Inc.,
On the board of a big oil company? Whoa. Fannie Mae? Double whoa!

Sorry but we don't need your warning. Some of us have the insight to know that this country needs a change from the same old crappola.

It annoys me that the GOP brings up Obama's associations, but refuses to talk about McCain's. How hypocritical can you get.

McCain and the Talking Parrot have offered nothing. They inspire hate, mistrust, and promote accusation via inuendo.

Ya know, I don't watch Hannity and Colmes very often, but I did last night to see Tito the Builder.
Did you see the segment on William Ayres "Prarie Fire"? He dedicates this book to many people. SirHan SirHan being one of them. Remember him? He's the one that shot Bobby Kennedy. The coincidence between Ayres, and Obama has been established. Those that don't see it, refuse to. I find it really repulsive, that some would support a man, that maintained a friendship with a man, dedicating his book to an assassin.

Did you see the you tube video, of the woman at an Obama rally, saying how she's so happy, that no more will she have to worry about paying her mortgage, or filling her car with gas?
Dream on! Now I'm sure Governor Richards didn't just pluck the number $120,000 out of thin air. He was let in on the little secret, and whoops! We are ALL going to see tax hikes, in one for , or another. Better brace yourselves.
Obama's aids are concerned, that people have the euphoric idea that Obama is a god, and can accomplish things, no mere mortal can....so after the elections....he'll be letting us know that it won't be quite how he described it would be.
Just forewarning you!

We have the absolute right for the dark clouds around Obama to be cleared up.
-------------------
The problem is that there really isn't any "darl clouds" to clear up.
The whole McCain campaign has been about creating doubt. About using inuedo to suggest there's some form of "serect past". About mysterious associateions.
And of course, many idiots just make up stuff and circulate it as fact.
Some folks won't be content until they find some kind of "secret". But there isn't one. Obama was a state Senator for 8 years, and a US Senator. How radical could he possibly be and still rise to those positions?
People have lost their senses in this election.
Obama is admittedly pretty liberal, he's met a diverse group of people in his life, and he has an ethnic background. So what? That's a plus as far as I, and many Americans, are concerned.
McCain and the Talking Parrot have offered nothing. They inspire hate, mistrust, and promote accusation via inuendo.
