McCain Gives Interview to Gay DC Newspaper
October 01, 2008 7:18 PM
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., answered questions submitted to him by the gay Washington, D.C., newspaper The Blade.
He told the paper about standing by former Rep. Jim Kolbe, R-Ariz., and former Tempe Mayor Neil Giuliano after they were outed, about his eulogy for 9/11 hero Mark Bingham, and how he believes "a child is best raised by a mother and father because of the unique contributions that they make together to the development of a child."

McCain gave access to the gay press, answered every question they submitted. I am not sure what part of this is not an interview? I learned more about McCain - although I would not vote for him -- that I would not have known. Hats off to the guy who was able to break that Republican Nut

First, this was not an interview. It was a written response to a set of questions. See editors note at the bottom of the Washington Blade article: Editor’s note: John McCain’s presidential campaign this week agreed to respond in writing to these questions, which were drafted by William R. Kapfer, co-president of Window Media, the Blade’s parent company, and Blade staff and submitted to the campaign by Kapfer.
Second: Obama and McCain are light years apart on lgbt issues. I could find nothing on McCain's campaign website anywhere about any lgbt issues. For Obama's positions, go here:

Issues that determine our vote need to be prioritized. Whether or not you allow yourself to be interviewed by a gay newspaper is not at the top of my list. While eliminating "don't ask don't tell" and DOMA are important they aren't at the top of my list either. However, they certainly are much closer to the top than an interview or photo op.

"Obama's stance on gay rights is exactly the same as McCain's."
It is similar, but not exact. But that is just the official positions on the top issues. Obama just has a higher natural respect and tolerance for minorities of all types. Obama "gets it." McCain does not.

"Obama's stance on gay rights is exactly the same as McCain's. Both believe in civil unions and both are against gay marriage. No gay person should vote for Obama thinking he's going to do anything for them."
So McCain favors repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell as well as repealing all of Defense of Marriage Act as Obama does?
You may want to inform the Senator of that opinion.

McCain is awesome! I don't expect him to agree with me on everything. I'm glad he met with that small DC paper.
Obama has refused time and time again to be photographed with gay leaders and give interviews to gay papers.
If everyone was so concerned about gay rights or women's rights they would have voted for Clinton.
Obama has never done anything for women or the gay community, for latinos or made any "change" to Washington.
I will not be held captive by the Democratic party because they have selected (not elected) a grossly under-qualified, arrogant, corrupt politician.
I am a female, ex-democrat who is voting for McCain/Palin

i have only one question-----did mccain go in drag--maybe with juliani----what a freaking act

I'm a straight right winger nut job, pleased that McCain met with Blade writers.
Whether I agree or disagree with their life choice is immaterial. They are entitled to the same Bill of Rights that I enjoy.

A gay newspaper?
I never knew newspapers had sex.
Is that like the Washington Post and NY Times hooking up?
Posted by: geevill | Oct 1, 2008 9:26:58 PM
So now the most progressive is the ridiculous arrangement ´Don´t ask, don´t tell´of Clinton´s time. Mr. America community organizer doesn´t support gay marriage either. What will the Hollywood gay lobby think about?

"Obama refused to be photographed with Gavin Newsom, the Mayor of San Francisco, because he was afraid to be labeled with the gay marriage label."
-----
A little later on -- with gay "marriage" okayed in San Francisco, and Newsom aiming at higher office -- the Democrats removed all the "gay-lesbian-transgender-bisexual" blabla from their platform, the better to accomodate Obamican -- right wing -- sensibilities.
A little EARLIER on, the "post-partisan" gay organizing network (Mary Cheney et al.) seems to have been quite a resource for The CHANGEling's organization -- as well as useful for destabilizing most traditional Protestant denominations in the US.

Right Belle so having a mother and farther is better even if the farther or mother is:
A abusive ?
A drunk ?
A molester ?
HELL NO!
Loving parent/s regardless of the gender!

"'a child is best raised by a mother and father because of the unique contributions that they make together to the development of a child."
Wonder how all the single parents feel about this one?"
-----
About 99% of em almost certainly feel the same as McCain does.

"a child is best raised by a mother and father because of the unique contributions that they make together to the development of a child."
Wonder how all the single parents feel about this one ? A loving family seems the best and only thing needed to bring up a child!
I dont think the gender of the parents or parent maters!
I also wonder how all the familes widowed by the wars john mccain supported feel about this statement ?

Jason he didnt want to be used against the proposals as has happened in the past! Can you say the word BUSH
Posted by: James | Oct 1, 2008 8:41:22 PM
Obama refused to be photographed with Gavin Newsom, the Mayor of San Francisco, because he was afraid to be labeled with the gay marriage label.
Yet, there are hundreds of photos of Obama hugging Rev Wright.
What courage!
What leadership!
Obama is a FRAUD!

Will the real John McCain please stand up...
Posted by: Blue in Michigan | Oct 1, 2008 8:24:28 PM
Too little, too late. The GOP has used gay people for so long to gain political points that McCain is speaking to deaf ears.
Californians, vote NO on Prop 8
Arizonans, vote NO on Prop 102
Floridians, vote NO on Prop 2

This is McCain trying to make up for yesterday:
McCain On Gay Rights: No Marriage, No Adoptions, No HIV/AIDS Prevention Plans. No Protection for Homosexuals under hate Crimes laws.
"HIV/Aids prevention is a waste of taxpayers money"
Yeah right Lucky Bristol Palin only got a baby!
Posted by: James | Oct 1, 2008 8:19:52 PM
Does this make any waves in the evangelical community? Sort of a return to the old McCain maverick style...

have you seen the new Sarah Palin and Katie interview. Hope you dont have high blood pressure because you may laugh your way to death. L....ord forgive
Posted by: vuzous | Oct 1, 2008 7:54:05 PM
Well he'll get the libertarians but that's about it. Between the "dead-enders" who still want this war, and the liberals going home to Obama, just HOW can McCain expect to win? You can only suspend belief to a point before you look certifiably INSANE! McCain can't win, no matter how many butts he tries to kiss. The tide has turned against him and what he represents. And nothing is gonna change that...

Good for McCain but the insane right wingers are going to go after him.
Did you see what they said to Kathleen Parker?
