McCain on Liberal D.C. Rule: 'Grab Ahold of Your Wallets!'
October 26, 2008 9:09 PM
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., tonight in Lancaster, Ohio, just furthered the divided government argument we discussed earlier today:
"You know, we get an Obama, Reid, Pelosi combo in Washington, we’re in trouble," McCain said, per ABC News' Ron Claiborne and Bret Hovell. "Grab a hold of your wallets!"

Sally B. Why would you worry about the debt. That's the worry of the government. If your still working, driving, and have enough money to live on that's all you need. However, you will have to worry about, Obama, Pelosi and Reid if Obama wins the election. The three musketeers will destroy this country because their promises are a sham. A dem contress and house will ruin this country along with a dem president. Look for a depression of 1929.

drjohn: You are right about those democrats. And they are the worst democrats elected to congress and the biggest failures with a house speaker that wants to control. That's why she didn't want Hillary in office. Nancy likes power and she wants to be the only woman in power. I was hoping the house would become republican so Nancy would step down. I have been a democrat all my life but am voting McCain. I don't like Obama's tactics and how he swindled Hillary out of the nomination. The majority of the young people better wake up and think before they vote otherwise we will have a depression worse than 1929. Even the owner of the Miami Dolphins want to sell his team fast because he fears an Obama win and the tax increases he will raise on millions of Americans in businesses or not in business.

McCain is right. You better hold on to your wallets. This congress is not the same democratic congress as it was years ago. Nancy Pelosi is the worse democratic house speaker we ever had and Reid should get out of politics. The people of this generation are too young to know what McCain knows ahead of time that the democrats will go on a spending spree. If you think the economy is bad now you haven't see anything. All you see is a young senator standing on the platform speaking the words of RFK or MLK adding some of his own words and they think he is brilliant. If you think he is going to do whatever he says, think again. It won't happen. And you will be crying in your beer.

alwriter: Bush didn't cause the foreclosures, the banks and lender's caused their own destruction. They lent money to these young people who don't have the money to buy a condo in the first place with no down payment or 5% down. After about a year they gave the condo back, stoped making payments and rented again leaving the banks and lenders in a finacial mess. Banks and Lender's should have required 25% down. And the trouble with some of these young people they wanted to live like the rich with a beer pocket. It doesn't work that way.

Obama wants to raise taxes on people makeing $250,000 or more for what reason. What is his intentions of spreading the wealth around. Donating to the poor countries or people that never worked to earn one dollar in their lifetime. I don't want my tax dollars donated to anyone. It should be put to good use like kids with disabilities, increase the mininum wage plus why don't the government form an insurance plan of their own for people making not over $60,000 per year making the payments to the government. If we can support other countries we can support our own country. Plus delete the link card and raise the SSI check. I know for a fact that many of those people who have link cards sell them for cash to buy drugs. Plus many people getting SSI checks are able to find jobs somewhere. They are no all disabled.

People should of been holding on to their wallets 8 years ago and elected a different President. The irony is most people although they haven't paid more in taxes, earn less thanks to the policies of McSame/Bush.

Hey Republican’s, look at the history of your beloved non-compassionate greedy party. Look at how much your taxes have increased per month since 2001. My income has been stagnant over the past 8 years. I now pay $595.00 per month more in taxes earning a little over $50,000.00 a year since the Bush-McCain-Palin tax cuts and supply-side socialist economic strategies have been implemented since 2001. Ninety % of the small businesses in the city I live in have gone out of business since 2001. When I drive thru town most of business buildings and malls are empty.
Here is a challenge for all Republican's. Please show the Independent's and Democrat's with facts how great the Reagan-Bush Sr.-Bush Jr.-McCain-Palin tax cuts and supply-side socialist economic strategies have helped small businesses, keep living wage jobs in this country, create jobs that pay living wages for the middle class, to provide opportunities for creating new small businesses, jobs for the working poor to become apart of the middle class and reduce the number of working poor in this country, improve the infrastructure of this country, lower the cost of health care, make college affordable for all who choose to go to college, improve k-12 education, improve Social Security and Medicare benefits, make us more respected over seas, balance the federal budget. reduce or eliminate the deficit, reduce or eliminate the long-term national dept of this country, build a strong enduring economy, clean up the lying mudsling of the Republican Rovian politics of this election, united the citizens of this country for our common purpose of making life better for all of us and future generations.
Please show the Independent’s and Democrat’s what the Republican’s have done to make these things a real reality for the American people and please don’t give us any lame excuses for the Republican's failing to do these things mentioned above. We just want hard facts of what has been done to accomplish these things.
If you look at our history when we had the largest number of middle class people, the largest number of small businesses, the lowest number of working poor and most people earned a living wage and could buy a home save, for retirement, their children’s education and afford healthcare. The USA was at its strongest and most respected around the world. It is common sense for our government and all of us to work together to restore what made the USA great.
Republicans if you can’t show what your party has done to accomplish these things. I recommend that all Americans vote for Obama-Biden 08.

Sorry, I accidentally deleted "accounted." It should have read: "...in 2006 the top 5% accounted for just 36.66%..."

Ok republicans...how do we as a country pay for the debt run up by the fiscally irresponsible bush administration?
Please, enlighten us all.

How much of a moron do you have to be to believe what mccain is spewing?
The debt and deficit has ballooned under the republican administration and he's looking to blame the dems? Yeah, think how bad it would have been if it wasn't the fiscally conservative party at the helm.
Dementia. That's about the only excuse for Mccain these days. He's lost his honor and won't be getting back up.

James321 wrote: "The top 5% of the wage earners in this country earn 80% of the income..."
According to the latest IRS statistics (updated July 2008), in 2006 the top 5% for just 36.66% of the total Adjusted Gross Income. NOT 80%. And the top 5% accounted for 60.14% of the total tax revenue.

Check out Media Matters for facts rather than talking points and hyperbole about the role Fannie and Freddie in the economic meltdown.
Even Greenspan and Cox said last week that the agencies may have "contributed to" but "did not cause" the meltdown.

Rollingdivision,
The top 5% of the wage earners in this country earn 80% of the income so a 3% tax hike from 36% to 39% is not a big tax burden on the rich. Remember they paid 39% tax during the Reagan and Bush Senior Republican administrations. Is that your definition of socialism Republicans? Did the rich end up in the poor house during the Reagan and Bush Seniors Administration? No they didn't they prospered.

Quig,
Obama has stated he will eliminate many of the tax loop holes including the off shore tax shelters.

Thank you rollingdivision. I like facts much better than uninformed opinions. It's amazing how quickly you get perspective when you see the facts. What really scares me is how many people will base their vote on an emotion, whether it be disdain for the poor or the wealthy or race or strict party affiliation.

Dr. John The Bush Administration gave tax cuts to encourage companies to take their factory and service sector jobs over seas. Millions of jobs have been lost to foreign countries. Most of those people have not been able to get new jobs because very few jobs have been created by the business sector and our government to replace the number of jobs lost. Today there are many more well educated and very experienced people who are long term unemployed now than any other time in our history thanks to the Bush-McCain-Palin tax plan and supply side economics. Too bad McCain-Palin and the rest of the ignorant lying Republican propaganda machine socialist economists don't understand the real effects of the blunders of the Bush-McCain-Palin greedy unethical socialist economic strategies. Dr. John it's sad you and your fellow Republican's are buying into the lies and greedy unethical socialist economic strategies of Bush-McCain-Palin lying propaganda media machine. Hopefully you and your fellow Republican's will some day be able to discern and recognize truth when you see it, hear it and be set free from hateful, arrogant, egotistical ignorance spewed forth from you and your fellow Republican's.

james321, please check for facts before you post. The top earners pay taxes far beyond their portion of earnings. Currently, the bottom 40 percent of wage earners pay no income taxes while the top 5% pay almost 55% of all the income taxes while earning about 33% of all income.

drjohn. For your information, Barnie Frank (chair of the house banking and finance committee charged with oversight of financial institutions and the one on whose watch this financial meltdown happened), Nancy Pelosi, and several other Democrats are on record in 2004 as stating that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were well managed and sound and not in any financial danger. They praised the CEO of Fannie Mae for his management of the organization and accused those who were questioning the health of those two organizations as spreading falsehoods and trying to smear the names of good people. And yet, we can look back now and see that they were very wrong and in an attempt to shift blame from themselves are blaming the problems on the Republicans
I believe there is plenty of blame to go around. President Bush has made some big mistakes and taken some very bad advice or not listened to very good advice. The Republican and Democratic parties are guilty of equally guilty of corruption and self-serving behavior. Neither party has a corner on the virtue market. I see McCain and Obama as being no different.
What I also see is that those who are on the receiving end of government handouts favor Obama's position while those who are on the giving end favor McCain.
Remember what Alexis de Tocqueville said about America: "The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money."

As opposed to the Republican rule, which was say goodbye to your job, your home, your retirement savings and possibly lose your child to war.

Where was McCain from 2001-2007 when the Repubs who controlled Congress were spending like money was going out of style? He should have been proclaiming "Hang onto your wallets!" then!
