McCain Planning to Spend Time With ‘Joe the Plumber’

October 16, 2008 3:17 PM

“I'm probably going to call him this morning," Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., told Fox News Channel's Carl Cameron. "I thought he would probably be up late. I heard that his -- that his phone lines were pretty well were flooded. But I think we're going to be spending some time together.”

Interestingly, "Joe the Plumber" is not named Joe (his full name is Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher), and according to the Toledo Blade, he's not a licensed plumber.

The Blade also reports: "Linda Howe, executive director of the Lucas County Board of Elections, said a Samuel Joseph Worzelbacher, whose address and age match Joe the Plumber’s, registered in Lucas County on Sept. 10, 1992.  He voted in his first primary on March 4 of this year, registering as a Republican. Ms. Howe said that the name may be misspelled in the database."

Additionally, in December 2007, the Blade reports, "the Ohio Department of Taxation placed a lien against him because $1,183 in personal property taxes had not been paid, but there has been no action in the case since it was filed."

Here is my take. You don't get it. McCain is the one promoting fascism and socialism by saying that $300 billion dollars from taxpayers should buy messed up mortgages. This is not fair for some of us who chose not to take subprime loans and are paying on a monthly basis sacrificing the life of luxury in America. I will also default mine, so McCain's government can rescue me with his plan. That is socialism, baby.... spreading our wealth in McCain's way.

McCain, please do not flush your campaign in the toilet. Joe the Plumber is no ordinary American. He has dodged his taxes, plus two liens. The Huffingpost has tracked his relationship/connection to Charles Keating

McCain makes these quick decision, and repeats words as if little kids are listening. It would have been enough if he had moved to serious issues affecting America's economy than repeat over 24 times Joe the Plumber. Gone, gone is Joe Six Packs who no longer afford beer.

I find it funny how Republicans have "Joe" and working shlubs like him fooled into carrying water for the rich.

Good luck all to all of you on getting your 250K+ salary, look at the labor statistics, its a pretty exclusive club and my bet is most of you will never make that kind of money in your lifetime.

Vote for your own interests not the rich mans interests, vote for the candidate that is going to do the most for you. That is what the rich do and that has a lot to do with why they are rich.

Typical rich man whining, Obama want's to raise their taxes about 3%-9% on graduated income over 250K and they are acting like its the end of days. That amounts to nothing more than walking around money for them.

Since it was the rich who put Bush in office they should be taxed to pay for all the opportunities and calamity it has caused in America right now.

Leila, You wrote: "A candidate who chooses the lowest possible road to the White House: how could anyone ever want a man like that to become President?" Funny, that's exactly how I feel about the Obama campaign myself!

Here's Something to Think About
All along the distribution line, there are taxes. Our suppliers will have their taxes go up, we will have our business's taxes go up, our customers' taxes will go up.

If you're not making at least $250,000, you can't make it in our area. It's not worth the trouble or the risk. Our state taxes are high and may be going up.

The whole tax package will come in at about 60%. That's not only wrong, it's dumb.

That giant sucking sound is hard-earned money being siphoned out of the economy into the hands politicians so they can buy votes.

Talking about contributing to our own demise--and digging our own grave.

I am proud of the behavior of Obama at the final debate.

Still waiting for McCain to do something other than attack.

If this idiot thinks he has a shot of becoming a respectable plumber, he should hold his breath while he waits.

Posted by: Sandy | Oct 16, 2008 10:05:29 PM

Seriously are you people crazy?
The guy asked a question.
Yes he asked the messiah, but still.
You people know more about him than we do about Obama.
This is so disgusting...
maybe this guy didn't lose the election for obama when he forced Obama to answer TRUTHFULLY that he's a socialist.
The media may have lost it for him (HOW IRONIC WOULD THAT BE!!!)
by jumping on this guy for asking a question...I just hope someone does to your families what you are doing to this guy....seriously, are we going to be JAILED for talking about him if he is President?
THIS IS SCARY!!!!!
DON'T CROSS OBAMA...your whole personal
PERSONAL
life will be out on these stupid blogs.
UN effin BELIEVABLE!!!!

After years and years and millions of dollars spend looking, this is finally an actual case of voter fraud! Don't voters have to produce an ID to vote in Toledo? Who allowed this guy Joe (or Sam) to vote even though his name didn't match?

My fingers thank you. Less typing. Plus it takes a lot of energy to address sweeping generalizations.

Where is the birth certificate for Obama? I don't want to see the "certification of live birth" document Obama is showing as this is not what would be accepted by any of our employers. Is Obama a natural born citizen of the USA and was he adopted in Indonesia by his step father?

Posted by: bebe | Oct 16, 2008 9:01:35 PM

Joe the Plumber doesn't get it either. We've been giving the wealthy and large corporations tax breaks for the last eight years, and look where it's gotten us. Giving tax breaks to the wealthy only works for the wealthy. It DOESN'T trickle down. I don't think middle class folks mind working hard. I don't think we mind paying a FAIR SHARE in taxes. But give middle class and poor folks extra income, and where do we spend it? In our communities, enriching local businesses, just like Joe the Plumber's. When people are spending money in their home towns, the town benefits with a better tax base to be spent on education, infrastructure, etc. Just simple middle class economics 101.

Posted by: Katy | Oct 16, 2008 8:51:47 PM

Obama surprised Plumber Joe's neighborhood--and voluntarily answered Plumber Joe's question. Nothing more than proving Obama is a socialist and we have a choice to vote for this. Like the media never knew who the Governor of Alaska was or the middle American worker is most concerning.

"1) You assume that Obama has the character, honesty and judgment to spend the taxes he confiscates from American business wisely."

Are all taxes confiscated or just Obama's taxes?

"(2) No business making less than $250,000 will have any incentive to grow and create new jobs because if they do they will be punished by higher taxes."

We have a progressive tax system and have had one for decades. When you hit a certain level, you are taxed at a higher rate. Obama proposes raising the highest rate from 35% to 39%. If you think someone will stop working because they will be taxed an extra 4% on money they make above $250K, you are not very bright.

"(3) American businesses earning over $250,000 will be crippled by Obama's higher taxes and unable to compete in the world wide market and most likely fail and go out of business or move to greener pastures taking all of the jobs with them."

4% is a crippling tax? ROFLMAO.

What do you think of McCain taxing my employer provided health care then? That must be the end of the world.

We have to fix the education system in this country. Too many gullible and stupid right wingers running around.

As is was posting this while watching CNN I just her that the Ohio commissioner reported that there is no JOE THE PLUMBER licensed in that state how intresting. McCain you showed us how the next four years with you will be like how sad. My family is a real middle class working family not one you made up and are fed up with the unaddressed issues. Also this guy you found in not all american

This is why his time with Ayers on the Chicago Annenberg Challenge is critical. When given other people’s money, Obama devotes it to cockamamie purposes thinking that he knows better.

Screw him.

Posted by: bluewaters | Oct 16, 2008 8:20:46 PM

How about McCain and the Keating scandal? That was other people's money.
How hypocritical can you Republican's be?

Posted by: Jwench | Oct 16, 2008 8:24:57 PM

Sure. Then let's give everyone a hybrid car and call it good. That's not my point at all.

Removing No Child, reinstating government loans for higher education, and paying teachers more and having smaller classrooms (8 years wasted already-- that's 2 high careers across the entire U.S., wasted) will jumpstart the horrible conditions of our education system. If McCain is in office, everyone will grumble, drop their shoulders, and try to get by as usual.

Taxes: cut 'em for the middle class so that they can get working toward affording health care. Anyone making $250,000 or more has relative worries at that juncture. They are not being punished; the rule is simple: the more you make, the more you owe to the feds. This isn't new.

Last, this whole Joe Schmoe crap is getting attention because it's another failed attempt on McCain's part to jilt the public. Got caught. Plain and simple. As for Joe, he's an idiot; anyone who goes on national television ought to know that everyone can see him and hear what he says. No sympathy there.

Obama talked to Joe for 5 minutes while canvasing in Ohio. Unprompted "Joe" asked Obama a question. Obama answered. The neighborhood cheered. I guess a lot of people liked Obama's response.... just not Joe the plumber, who doesn't like to pay taxes (even social security).
